High temperature on charging Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini SM-G800F - Galaxy S5 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini SM-G800F phone increase temperature on charging process in top side of phone near speaker. After 30-60 minutes of charging temperature is about 70°С (I check via hands). And temperature stay high after charging is finished (if I keep cable inserted at 10 hours - after 10 hours I disconnect and see that phone is hot).
Is it normal? Can other owners of this phone report here - you have this problem too?

I have SM-G800H model and have not experienced this yet.
Are you working with the phone while it is charging? Is the screen on?
Are you using original samsung charger & cable?

I dont belive it gets so high, cause at 70 degrees you can burn your skin (epidermal necrolysis after 1 second in this temp).
My device is laying on the table connected to charger more that one hour ant its much cooler than carried in a pocket, so there are two options.
1. your device is broken - then you need to replace it
2. you are running some heavy application in the background, maybe dont even know about it

Yes, I think it is lower that 70 degrees (maybe 40-50), I have no thermometer, but it very hot sometimes. After upgrade firmware to new version seems that temperature is lower (but not like around), so I think that this is software problem.

I had the same problem with my brand new phone. The phone was getting really hot and would also discharge quickly.
I took it back and claimed warranty and they replaced my phone with a brand new one.
They told me that the problem, most likely has to do with the processor.

[Q] tytn ii battery issue

hi guys,
when i power on my kaiser (with the stock rom) and the phone gets to the welcome screen i can hear a dead battery sound and the phone powers itself off. tried hard reset, flashing a new rom, changing radio, buying a new battery, charging battery using charger wires..nothing seems to work . If i flash a new rom like wm 6.5 the phone shows me radio version, protocol version and rom version ( R G D ), the light dim's and the phone shuts down.
when i connect the charger a yellow led turns on..i left the phone charging for one whole day but the light is still yellow
any solutions? thanx in advance
go look for the exe file called powerdetect.exe this is a small program listed in the TytN II service manual that is used to check the battrey health. I suspect the batt needs to be replaced.
the battery is ok. i've tried with several batteries and the result is the same
What charger are you using? Motorola v9 charger wont do. I had similar power off issue when starting up a unused unit. Only able to charge with original charger 5v 1000ma. OR try charging it through the PC USB port. If you have a notebook, just leave it in sleep mode for overnight charging
I've got a similar problem but usually when i make or accept calls the phone switches off
My phone is a Kaiser 130 which runs on 5 volts but the battery i got with it (bought it on ebay) is Kais 160 which runs at 3.7 volts???? Also the mains charger i got with phone is a 5v.
I just did a power test using the program below till the battery was dead and then plugged into my laptop to recharge and within 2 mins battery is up to 72%???
can anyone who has a Kaiser 130 from new tell me the original battery voltage and code please
power detect download is here if anyone wants to download

every kaiser has a 3.7 volts battery..are you sure the phone turns off when you make or receive a call? My guess is that only the screen turns off (sleep mode - same as pressing the red button) because your ear can touch the screen and acces random menus etc

are you sure? ..'cause i spent a lot of money on a new original battery later to find out that the problem isn't from my battery..don't want to do the same with the flex cable..i found one around 40 €
which flex cable are you talking about? Do you have a second unit that you can do a part swap to see if it is actually the cable issue?

the main flex cable, which connect the two parts. Unfortunately i don't have a second unit..
Hi Giany,
had a battery problem not the same as yours by the sounds of it but solved it by installing the orange shipped rom which comes with radio.
might be worth a try.
good luck

I have the same issue... .-(
The phone just switches off completely with any hint of longer usage (phone call longer than 1 min or so, garmin mobile xt barely makes to searching of satellites). I use original stock ROM.
Unused (no phone calls) it can last for two days. I have tested it with brand new/unused prepaid sim.
I took it to authorized HTC service center, but unfortunately they do not support it any more due to lack of parts.
Anybody else have this issue? Or clue to what might be wrong. I really love this phone…

ok..so i disconnected the flex cable from the mainboard and I connected the speaker and the battery. I powered on the phone, waited for like 30 seconds and i heard the dead battery sound..could it be a short-circuit on the mainboard or this is normal?

Hi,
I have the same problem. Do you know how to fix it?
Tks,
Tonny
Same / Similar Problem
I have the same (or at least quite similar) problem here. Only with me, I think it's the micro USB port that needs changing. There is two visible cracks which maybe stopping the flow of electricity.
When I plug it into a charger, either wall or to my PC, it turns on fine, and can stay on aslong as it's plugged in. (sort of makes it like a desktop then, doesn't it ). The problem is that it doesn't charge.
I am using ahmed fikry's 6.5 Kaiser ROM but do not seem to have had any problem with it so far. I also run Ubuntu and Android through HaRet.
replacing the flex cable worked for me..i found one at about 30€. Hope this helps

Defective charger?

I bought a dock and wall charger from Amazon a few weeks ago for my Nexus S. The dock works fine, but when I plug my phone into the wall charger it makes the touchscreen do very odd things. It starts to get very laggy, and it also seems to misjudge where I touch or tap by a great distance. When I unplug my phone from this charger it works correctly again. This problem doesn't happen with the charger that came with the phone itself. Any idea why this could be happening?
The charger you bought is likely not sufficiently isolated from mains. Some part of the mains frequency might leak through and confuse the touch sensor.
Mind, I am not saying that it is not safe to use.
Sorry to come into your thread to ask a question.
But I have a question about charger too.
At home, I use the original charger that came with Nexus S. My battery seems to last very long.
At dorm, I use the so called Samsung charger I bought from eBay [it says it's legit and it sure looks like one] but battery doesn't seem to last as long as I would expect.
Settings and usage/variables are not exactly same but - for example, I got 22 hours with 40% left with home setting, while I would have to charge my phone usually after 6-8 hours at dorm.

Try swapping the chargers to test. But I honestly think it is not the charger's fault, if your battery is full both times. More likely there are other circumstances, like bad reception, or your phone is searching for wlan all the time or whatever. Try going to the battery monitor in settings somewhere, there you can see what it using power. I can't direct you there exactly because I have a non-english language running.

As I said, your charger very likely is just as safe as all the other Chinese electronic stuff. It is just not filtered/stabilized enough and so it confuses the touch screen. Keep in mind that the touch screen works by sensing a very small capacity change. Some overlaid interference can probably easily disturb it.

[Q] charging issues, charges extremely long, stops charging randomly

Hey I was wondering if something is wrong with my device.
I am encountering weird things regarding recharging the device in reliability charging up.
So i am using the original charger which came with the phone, the phone is just like 3 month old i didnt notice anything like that earlier.
So when i am charging the device, sometimes it stops charging, Today I encountered it charging to like 56% and afterwards no more charging so when i got up, my phone was 14% left even when plugged in.
I encountered it several times recently that it stuck recharging at around 50-ish or 70-ish %.
charging usually takes up reasonably long. About 10% an hour. In Settings -> Battery it sometimes it displays USB even when it's charging via AC.
I am not running any fancy apps which drain the phone or clock cpu.
I am running 4.1.2 I9305XXBLL3 Rooted.
Anyone have any suggestion?

Samsung charger that come with the box really charge slow because it only supplies 1Amp.
But for your case seems different. Before checking the software side... have you checked if it's the charger or the cable itself has the problem? Try using other charger.
do you think a nexus 7 charger works fine w/o doing any (more) damage?
Many times it's because of dust and dirt collecting inside usb port. Clean it with compressed air or small brush and try again.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
i am aware that dirt might be the problem, but i've took my torch and put some light into the dark usb port to see if there's any dirt but everything looked quite clean to me. I don't have compressed air with me atm do you think a manual air blower used to clean dslr sensors can also do the job?
any other suggestions if the charger and usb port ( dirty ) is not the case?
Use toothbrush and tiny bit of alcohol ( can be after shave) on it to clean port. Do it when phone it's switched off. It's worth to try.
Did you try different charger?? This can be main problem. Many faulty chargers this days.....

i have been trying out the nexus 7 charger. it seems to be a bit faster but not as fast as i am used to be on galaxy s2 ... i used the air blower and a tiny bit of dust came out but not quite much, i will see how it performs.

Check the output voltage if same, a bit higher ampere would be fine just not too high, and not voltage.

Samsung charger provides 1000mah because that's the stock charging setting for the SGS3. You'd only need a different charger, like a N7 one if you change the settings to above 1000mah.
OP use current widget to see what current your phone is charging at. It should be 999mah from the wall charger, then you can change chargers and see whether it's the charger or your phone with the problem.

Slow charging - using mains charger!?!

I've just upgraded to JB and now when I plug in the charger I usually use at my desk (A samsung original charger) I get the message about 'slow charging due to the low current of the USB'.
Has my charger just died without me realising it, or does jellybean need more juice somehow??

Which version of jb did you update to? I updated also and noticed the same thing, and i have tried multiple chargers, old and new, original and usb, computer and wall chargers, all get the same message.
I doubt your charger is an issue. Have you noticed if it is ACTUALLY taking longer to charge ?
It's also happening me with v1oe and v20a if your 4x is slightly warm then it's charging slowly to prevent overheating try to charge the device when your battery level is <13% and charge it to continuously to 100% and when charging see the difference in setting>powersaver and you will see charging(AC) even your device is heated

As akshay.mehta9 mentioned, it's a known issue, although it's in place for your phone's protection. The general opinion seems to be that the limit is a bit too conservative (there are reports of this limit being a bit higher in the Asian versions, but we don't know if the next western versions will have it changed - it might be a regional business decision, or something regarding the legislation/EU norms).
In any case, it's been talked about here, and there's a temporary solution (in that it resets to default value when you reboot your phone).
Cheers all - it makes sense I guess as a protection when hot - I just noticed the problem soon after the update so panicked but I needn't have, as it does indeed charge fine, and must have just been hot at the time

Battery/Charging issue

Hey everyone, how y'all doing?
I've got this problem for 2 months now where the charging has been super slow and no idea why. I am using the official charger and cable that came with the phone, I used my wife's s20's charger with same result and a third party charger with 3 different cables with similar results. Accubattery recorded that my phone's battery health is at 86% (3460mah) should I change it and lose my water/splash proof?
Oh yes I have flashed a few different ROMs (currently using Dr Ketan) with the same results except for evolution ROM, with the aosp ROM I was able to charge my phone from 14 percent to 100 in 90 minutes which is kinda weird...
Any advice would really help thank you

Get yourself one of those 2$ USB doctors. It will tell you how much power the phone is taking in. i.e. Fast charge should be 9 volts at about .8 amps and slow charge 5 volts at 1.5+ Amps.
Make sure your port is clean and moisture levels are low i.e should be below 80%.
I had this problem once when moisture was over 80%. It then went away. But at that time the phone will warn you about the extra moisture. It will say Moisture detected in USB port Fast Charging disabled.
The second time this happened was after the update to android 10. Had slow charging and overheating and audio acting up but that went away after re-setting the phone a few times and clearing cache.
The latest update to Android 10 seems to be causing a lot of issues with Display, Audio and overheating / slow charging. My audio chip finally stopped working. And the phone is now with Samsung.
My 2 cents if you see overheating and slow charging. Stop using the phone while its still working and take it to Samsung. Because if you continue to use it something will fail. And Samsung will want to give you a big fat bill to change it.

Thanks for the advice and I'll see to it. It's just yeah it seems like after android 10 things have been degraded
So apparently turning off fast charging in options gives me a faster charge time. With fast charge on it takes from 7% to 100% in 3 and a half hours and with fast charge off it takes 2 hours only.... Maybe my fast charging "chip" / "module" is broke?

Unless you see something in there I do not advise poking around inside.
I suspect your problem is that the Samsung USB cable packed up. And your trying with all kinds of cables and chargers. Go to a Samsung Store and ask them to check with a Samsung Cable and Charger.
I went thru this circus a few months back.
The only solution is to get a Samsung Charger with a Samsung Cable.
Then make sure fast charge is on. For wireless and wired charging. Wipe your cache and you should be ok.
I have seen way too many damaged USB ports from people trying to clean it. When there was nothing in there to start with. Use compressed air. If you see something in there.
