[REQUEST] HTC One Developer Edition Stock 4.4 - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm looking for a CWM/TWRP/RUU of the Developer Edition 4.4.2 ROM, which doesn't seem to be on the HTC Dev site and doesn't download from the only other link I found - htc1guru.
Would someone with the DevEd phone please take a backup on TWRP or CWM, upload it and share? It'd be much appreciated.
Cheers!

I have a TWRP nandroid of 4.4.3 (6.07.1540.1) dev edition not the 4.4.2. Do you want it? You could restore this backup and flash the matching firmware if needed.

If your phone is not on 5.11.1540.9 and you want to update your firmware to 6.07.1540.1 so you can take future ota, you'll need s-off to flash the complete firmware compiled by Seyaru in the dev edition thread here
After restoring the backup and flashing the firmware patch, you'll be stock and ready to take futures ota update.

I'm really sorry about this, but I'd like both the Nandroid and the modified firmware, but both of them are on mega. Is there any other site where you've got these files? Mega is blocked where I am and TOR doesn't let me add on the extension to download the nandroid (>1GB).
Once again, I'm really sorry, but any help would be appreciated!

So which upload site is not blocked by your government? I thought India only wanted to block those sites for FIFA 2014 event, looks like they have taken advantage of this event to permanently block these sites....
I can re-upload just tell me on which website. I already used all my 50GB monthly bandwidth from my ISP and will only be able to upload that file again in 2 days (22 Oct EDT)
unless someone else here already downloaded the file and want to upload it again?
Is there any method to bypass blocked sites you can use like a proxy server so you can access mega.co.nz?

So I just extract the ZIP and restore from it, then flash the firmware package, right?

unzip the backup and push all files to your twrp back folder, then restore the backup. boot the phone and confirm that the rom is working correctly.
Then update the firmware using the package I have uploaded (only if already on 5.11.1540.9 firmware) (s-on + locked/re-locked bootloader)
or use Seyrayu's firmware if not aleady on 5.11.1540.9 (s-off required)

ROOT and S-OFF does not prevent ota update to work. If you can't apply the ota its either because you modified/deleted /system files or some preloaded app (i.e calculator, flashlight etc) are not in the /preload folder anymore because of the bootlooder unlocking process. In that case you must revert all changes back to stock and the easiest way to do it is by flashing the latest ruu (4.19.1540.9)

when I press install update, the phone will reboot and then the team win recovery project v2.6.3.3 opens; from here I don't know what I should do;
If I press Install, I can see all directories and the previous OTA's zip files as well in sdcard directory (One_4.06.1540.3_odexed.zip) but I cannot see the per-downloaded OTA 4.19.1540.4; do you know the default location of the downloaded OTA? where do they store them? I've been reading and someone mentioned that the updates are stored in the cache folder; I have 3 directories inside the cache (backup, lost+found, recovery) and none of them contain the update file

Root and S-Off doesn't matter but recovery does. You need stock recovery for the firmware your running not custom recovery.

As bored_stupid said you must have stock recovery to install Ota. I will upload you to correct one when I'll get back home later. Or you can use the 4.19.1540.9 from htc1guru.com or htcdev.com

edit: Here is the recovery you need to do the OTA update to 4.19.1540.4.

MD5: 87eaf7d4a9c4ba1108bf26164b1f3f3d
Flash over twrp like any recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery4.06.1540.3.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
and try to apply the ota update again.
To summarize, for ota updates you need stock recovery, stock /system files, stock files in /preload folder (i.e htc apps like flashlight, calculator etc that are wiped during bootloader unlock...) and correct MID and CID. If one of this condition is not met, it will not work. In that case, backup your personal files and flash the ruu.

[Q] Dev Edition - Root but keep OTA?

I have sucessfully converted my AT&T HTC One to the Developers Edition. If install TWRP and root the device, then re-install the stock recovery, can I maintain the ability to receive OTA Updates?
Also can someone confirm that the 4.06.1540 recovery is the latest for 4.4.2 sense 6? (Found Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545227)
Or if there is a better way to accomplish root etc.
Thank you in advance.

That is a good recovery to have in place *before* you start checking for the latest 5.x.x.x OTA. Technically it's not the "latest" (the latest one would be the one you will end up with *after* the OTA) but it's the right one for your situation.
Overall the short answer to your question is yes, you can get OTA's with this plan.
If you remove anything from /system you might not.
If you do more stuff (like downgrading HBOOT, installing a custom kernel, whatever) you might not.
But for most people in your situation, you'll get OTA's.
Generally.
Enjoy.

The best thing to do is a nandroid of your stock rom & recovery prior to installing TWRP and obtaining root. If you need to go back to stock you will have it. I haven't seen the stock recovery for 4.4.2 sense 6, it should be 5.11.1540.9.

Sure it is but unfortunately if has not been possible to (fastboot boot recovery.zip) since hboot 1.44
The best most people can do is after taking the update reflash TWRP and make a backup including recovery. then download and keep the stock recovery with it.
Thank you all for the response. Here is what I would like to do:
1. Backup my existing recovery through adb using the #dd command. Anyone know the correct syntax?
2. Install TWRP and backup the existing unrooted ROM.
3. Root the device. Do not remove any files from /system, no custom kernels (doesn't really matter since I will restore backup). Simply use titanium back to restore my apks and freeze the ones I don't use. I would like to install Xposed though.....
4. See OTA Update. Backup apks, restore unrooted. Restore stock recovery through adb. Anyone know why the syntax??
5. Run the OTA Update.
6. Profit.... Go back to step 1.
What do you all think? Any help with the syntax to dump and restore stock recovery?

doesn't know the #dd command but recovery can be extracted from the firmware package inside the ota.zip
anyway, I have all the latest dev edition recovery so you'll save a little time:

More Questions on Receiving OTA's
@alray On Step 4, to receive the OTA's, in addition to restoring stock recovery, wouldn't it be necessary to unroot the device and disable Xposed?

no need to unroot to be able to apply the ota but you might loose root after the update, in that case, root again after the update.
I have updated mine many times with xposed still enabled and didnt have any issue. But you might want to disable module like ''sense 5 toolbox'' when updating to sense 6... Anyway if you want to be safe, yes you can disable xposed but this is not required.
@alray Thank you very much! I was unrooting and disabling Xposed, etc. Good to know I can "Keep it Simple"!
@alray The link for the latest recovery is 404ed. Can you repost? EDIT: Nevermind. Removed the [/HIDE] from the link and it worked.
Where is the OTA saved BTW?
Thanks again for all the advise. I may update the OP to outline these in detail.

ok you need some apps missing during unlock boot loader process
Which was at data /preload so you have to restore them like sound hound & others
How get these apk
find another HTC One with same software version install es file explorer on that
Open es explorer go to apps manager backup all apps which are HTC made like calculator flash light htc ringtonetrimmer htc sound recorder sound hound use your logic these apps are long name & version then any other apps
copy these apps to your phone data/preload use root explorer now try ota again ( if any error still there note that error & try solving same way)
Or easy & long way S Off your phone
Then just install THIS & try ota for next version & again next version until you get your desired version
from HTC One
Does this require the phone to be rooted? Just so you know, my phone is not rooted.

Facing a similar problem but with system/app/plusone.apk, the sense 5.5 OTA had come in without any issues, only this OTA is getting stuck. I am S-ON, bootloader locked with stock recovery. To use the Guru reset tool, is it necessary to be S-OFF? My s/w version is 4.19.1540.9, there is a 4.3 RUU available on Htc dev site? Can i download it and run the .exe on a computer with my phone being BL locked, stock recovery or we can not downgrade to 4.3 from 4.4.2? I was planning to run the 4.3 .exe ruu and then OTA twice to get sense 6.

you can't downgrade with S-ON using a ruu. This is not required to to be s-off to use guru reset rom but s-off is required for the guru bootloader reset tool. There is also a nandroid backup of 5.11.1540.9 and the signed firmware in the dev edition updates thread, where you have already posted about the same issue. look at page 94

Thanks a lot alray, i did see the tutorial and to use the Guru reset tool, i need to unlock my bootloader, flash TWRP, then flash Guru reset tool and read on screen instructions to flash a stock recovery and firmware. After that, i need to relock the bootloader and check for OTA updates. The guru reset available is 3.22.1540.1 and as you say it does not require S-OFF.
What would be a safer way? To use guru reset tool and then do OTA updates till the latest firmware or install the 5.11.1540.9 firmware, i have absolutely no clue on how to flash stock firmwares, if it is done through custom recoveries or stock recovery.
Thanks

What would be a safer way? To use guru reset tool and then do OTA updates till the latest firmware or install TWRP and then flash the 5.11.1540.9 firmware using TWRP?
Thanks

don't lock bootloader until your work finished you don't need it unlocked bootloader will help you if you got some difficulty / error
Guru rest Rom not required s off but if ota over that version should be same with your current version if not ota will fail for example your current version is 5 you use guru reset rom with version 3 then you will update it with ota version 4 it will fail because S On will not let you flash firmware 4 over 5 so keep that in mind use guru reset with same version of your current version

Darn it, which means i cant use Guru reset as my current version is 4.19.1540.9 and there is no reset tool available for it. Dont want to play around with S-OFF etc as am planning to sell the phone and worried if something might go wrong during the process.
The last option available is to then use a 4.19.1540.9 but one user had said some where that4.xx RUU's are not working.
I tried but could not find a 4.19.1540.9 nandroid backup as well, will try the RUU and if it does not work then maybe wait for htc dev to release 4.4.2 RUU from their end.
Is there any way to do this without rooting?

Why would you want to find a 4.19.1540.9 nandroid backup when I said at post #11 that there is a nandroid backup of 5.11.1540.9 and the 5.11.1540.9 signed firmware in the dev edition updates thread at page 94 (posted by me, users reported both nandroid and firmware working good)
@yatindroid : sorry for hijacking this thread.
Sorry but i have no clue at all on how to use that nandroid backup to update the phone. Do i need to unlock bootloader again, flash twrp and then restore that backup?
What to do with the firmware file?
Thanks

unlock bootloader
flash twrp 2.6.3.3
boot phone in recovery
make a backup of ''Boot'' only (this is only to generate a backup path on your phone)
when completed, reboot phone in the OS, connected on your computer
browse your internal storage, go to TWRP/Backups/Your_Phone_serial/Some_date/
delete files in this folder (these are the file backed up previously to generate the backup path above)
extract the 5.11.1540.9 backup archive and copy all the files in the backup folder (previously generated) of your phone (TWRP/Backups/Your_Phone_serial/Some_date/) should have around 11 files (some .win .md5 files and a .log)
go back in twrp, select ''restore'' , select ''some_date'' folder, select all the partitions and swipe to restore
after the restore is completed, in twrp go to ''wipe'' then ''swipe to factory reset'' do not ''format data'' or ''advanced wipe''
reboot phone in the OS
if you want to update the firmware after restoring the backup:
relock bootloader
reboot bootloader
flash the firmware
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot oem flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot oem flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
flashing firmware can be dangerous so be sure you understand what you are doing first, there is a lot of threads here explaining how to flash firmware.

Why not just seeling the phone ''as is'' ?
if you have any other question please pm me, open another thread or post in the dev update thread so it will be easier for @yatindroid and @viv_1980 to continue troubleshooting viv_1980's issue.
there is also another thread that discuss the exact same issue you are having ''unexpected content'' of /system/app/plusone.apk on 4.19.1540.9: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53381299
Maybe you could try what I said in that thread before messing with backups and firmware.
Problem solved
Thanks a ton to @alray, @yatindroid and @SaHiLzZ, i finally downloaded the 4.19.1540.9 RUU from Android ruu, connected to windows 7, used the .exe file and it smoothly flashed the stock firmware. After it, updated OTA to sense 6 and this time the update went smoothly and my M7 is now updated to sense 6. It is completely stock now, will easily get OTA updates in future and i wanted to set things right before selling it off so that the future owner does not face issues with the phone, not every one is a member of Xda .
Thanks guys

Need help with firmware 6.13.707.1

G'day all,
I'm from Malaysia and the latest firmware has just been released which is the 6.13.707.1 and I've found a link to download this firmware here. However, I understand that flashing firmwares may cause the sdcard to be wiped. I'm hoping someone could give me a pointer on how to mod or remove any components in this firmware zip to avoid it from wiping the sdcard before I flash it. Thanks!
HI there,
just remove all dzdata* files from firmware.zip.

That's only the untouched firmware that I uploaded for those who want to revert to original firmware after he flashed a modded firmware like the one with removed red text warning. And it won't wipe your sdcard.
What actually you want to achieve ? If it is to update your ROM to 4.4.3, this won't work.
If you plan to update the firmware only then use a custom 4.4.3 ROM, then this should be ok.
See this if your intention is to update to Stock 4.4.3 ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55002536&postcount=7644

Thanks a lot for the firmware bro! I'm currently on a custom 4.4.3 ROM and I'd like to update the firmware to 6.13.707.1 which is the closest to our country.

I see ... if that's the case remove the boot.img and recovery.img from the firmware.zip so you don't have to reflash custom recovery and kernel.

HTC one OTA

Hello everyone, I have a question. First of all, I have a rooted HTC one on stock ROM with TWRP recovery with s-on (haven't got to it yet.). How would I install an OTA without loosing root? I saw a video in which I flash stock recovery, download and install OTA, then reinstall custom recovery. Question us will this work on s-on? If not, is there another way? Thanks!

The minute you flash the stock recovery you will lose root. The steps you describe is how to get the OTA. For the OTA you need stock recovery, stock rom and you may need some files in the /preload/ folder that were deleted when you unlocked your bootloader.

Oh ok, well as thanks for the reply. Do you think it would be possible to download it and install it by flashing the apk file or zip file instead of OTA?

If you are S-OFF you can flash it in stock recovery otherwise you will have to get the file OTA.

It would be better to use a Guru Reset if you want ota's. You can simply make a backup in custom recovery. Flash the reset zip and take ota updates when your all done reflash twrp recovery and restore your backup.
You need to see if there's a reset zip that matches your MID, CID and Version main. For it to work though. Look here http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/stock-rom-downloads/ or post your details if you need help to find the right one.
