[Q] Lollipop for S3 Mini? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys is there any news of Lollipop development for the S3 mini? Cyanogenmod or anyone else? I have a good feeling about this but any confirmation?

No

Actually there is, M&M announced the following on their Novafusion Facebook page:
"Get ready for Android L for S3 Mini! We will do our best to deliver it! We start development as soon as sources get released!"
As for stock android Lollipop, it will probably be ported over to our device by other developers here on XDA.
*sorry, i can't post links yet =/

What do you mean by stock android Lillipop? With TouchWiz?

I think he means AOSP (unmodified Android straight from google ).
Maybe they will port CM, AOKP, PA only, not AOSP.

Oh, I was really hoping for a TouchWiz port, but...

Oh sorry for the confusion.
The novafusion team mainly ports over the Cyanogenmod rom for our s3 mini along with other cyanogenmod based roms and aosp roms as well. Therefore the first version they would (probably) bring to our device is a cyanogen version of lollolipop (CM 12?) instead of the stock android lollipop set to come out on Nov 3rd. But as for stock roms, maybe you can try asking one of the developers that works with stock touchwiz roms in the development thread.

No point. I'm getting a S5 this Christmas. I was just hoping to upgrade my S3 Mini with a new TouchWiz ROM before I give it to my mom. Anyways, enough off topic

Ahh, i see. Well fyi, i downloaded the new stock messaging app that comes with android 5 Lollopop and it unfortunately produced quite a bit of lag when scrolling through the texts list on my kitkat s3 mini. I know that its probably not a fully optimized app ( it is unreleased) and that it would probably perform better using android 5, but it would probably give your mom a big headache for christmas instead... Lol... I suggest sticking to what you have now.
Cheers,
- R

There is still problems with many kitkat roms (1ghz bug/clock freeze/excessive battery drain) I've yet to find a stable 4.4.4 rom that i can use daily (7 months of searching) i would imagine lolipop would bring some problems too. will keep thinking positive though, we have many amazing developers

Bugs:
* IR blaster doesn't work on the p3113 (same as any AOSP ROM)
* ParanoidPreferences isn't tuned to the device, but works well.
If you switch to phablet then go back to tablet UI expect the navigation buttons to disappear.
You can navigate to the System section of Settings and re-enable them. Buttons are set to be on by default in the device config, but alas you can't build this apk from source yet.
There is a way to force this apk to build from source now, I will try this and see if it includes my configs.

Waiting for the p3100, excited!
good to see you work on PA some more.
i've been enjoying your older PA build for a while now.
I'm using go launcher ex right now would apex pro be a better choice an can we run the cm10 oc on this

I think Xposed framework might work with this, it should provide a lot of customisation options. Could be wrong though, I haven't tried it.

You do know you're talking about an ACTUAL FIRMWARE port, which has a totally different hardware from any of the S3/Note 2 variants.
There will be SO MANY things which need fixing on, and while we do have great PORTERS for our device.. creating THIS would mean starting everything from scratch. And it's waste of efforts, considering our device isn't great for running TouchWiz starting from 4.4.
Unless you see a Lollipop firmware for any other variant of the S3 (excluding the i9300) or the Note 2 variants, please don't expect any hopes of porting a FIRMWARE that wasn't designed for our hardware in the first place.

It's not a port of the original firmware. It was built upon the port of the note firmware with s5 framework. You can't just port a firmware directly from a firmware.

That was possible because the Android version was the same (4.4.2) if the galaxy note 2 or some version of the galaxy s3 will update to Android 5.0 maybe yes, the devs could port the "apps and framework" not the complete operative system...
