Anyone having any luck getting the Moto X on contract in the UK? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can only find it on mobile phones direct, an online only retailer. And they're taking forever to ship it, and pretty much lied to me about their stock.
So does anyone in the UK know anywhere stocking it? This phone seems so damn hard to get a hold of

I haven't seen it on any network anywhere. I heard P4U had an exclusive on it, but since they've gone bang.....

Yea I think that's what's screwing us over here, the phone seems to be stuck in limbo.
I ended up ordering it via mobile phones direct, they've told me it would be here tomorrow everyday for a week now. Initially was meant to be here last friday. Rung up today and they've told me it is delayed for a week. Could really do with someone else selling it

Clove have them SIM-free:

Yea I'm after a contract

Still no news on the Moto X being on any network. I can't really dish out the nearly £500 for the 32GB
Has anyone heard anything?

Mobilephonesdirect.co.uk are the only provider I've found so far, received mine a couple of days ago

I find it really strange after all the good reviews of this phone, its like the networks are shunning Motorola. I've had online chats with o2 and I've had responses usually worded "we have no updates for this device" I wish they'd just give a yes/no about if its coming soon or not

I spoke with EE who is my provider and they said that they had no idea if they would get the phone because Motorola phones do not sell well (with them).
I played with the Z3 on Wednesday and REALLY liked it. It would have been better if it was close to pure android BUT given the unfortunate circumstances with the lack of availability from the Moto X, I will be purchasing the Z3 this weekend.

I think the networks are missing a trick here, some people are after a stock android experience and the size of the nexus 6 will put some off so will be wanting a device like the moto x.

I was one of those who was put off by the size of the Nexus 6. Maybe it is Motorola's interest to push the Nexus before its other phones?!

I was going to hold off for the Nexus 6, but after looking around I decided I don't want a handset of that size.
The New Moto X (2014) really took my fancy and my brother bigged up the Moto X (2013) so after a lot of hunting around on the net and trying to get the New Moto X as an upgrade from my service provider with no luck as they haven't heard of it.
I found Mobile Phones Direct on the net and placed my order a few days ago. It arrived yesterday and I unlocked the bootloader (followed guide on Motorola website) straight out of the box and then once loosely set up I rooted it (followed the guides in this forum) to bring back the exposed goodness that I love.
The phone looks great and feels great in the hand, love rooted stock KitKat with exposed.

Can I ask is there any network branding on it? Mines coming Monday on EE, also from Mobile phones direct. I figured (hoped) as none of the networks seem to be offering it themselves MPD might just be selling the SIM free model with a contract

Hello there,
No branding or bloatware on the phone at all.

Excellent, thanks for that... Just what I was hoping you would say

Does that mean that mobilephonesdirect sells the pure edition? In spite of their nice price, I would hate ending up with a locked bootloader at the end

Going by model number (XT1092 Europe, Asia) its not a Pure Edition (XT1095) but according to the table at this link:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_X_(2nd_generation) its SIM Unlocked.
The bootloader was easily unlocked by following the guides in this forum and on the Motorola website (did it as part of my first boot up)
Then rooted after basic set up.

Any Canadian Moto X 2014 Users

Was really considering the phone, but Telus sells the 16GB one. And I am not sure how they will cripple Moto's fast updates. Any Canadian owners, leave your thoughts. I am better off going with the Pure Version?
The only thing telus has done with their moto x is the branding in the status bar and a shortcut to the mytelus account Web app
I don't expect them to take long for other updates.
Mine didn't even come with the Telus MyAccount app at all? It seems like there's actually nothing here (locked phone aside)
The "My Telus" app is in the play store. There really isn't anything on the phone that should delay the update. Part of telus' marketing for this phone has been something along these lines: Pure Style, pure performance with the fastest updates. Im expecting to get the update at the same time as the pure edition or maybe after a few days of network testing.
---------- Post added at 11:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 AM ----------
You can actually remove the TELUS branding in status bar form network settings if you want.
Telus
According to the model number XT1097 the telus model is sold in a number of countries. There really isn't any carrier specific software on this phone. Only place telus is shown is in the APN settings.
Coming from the Galaxy S4 which was also 16gb I really like this phone. It doesn't have a SD card but I didn't really use the SD card I had in the S4 other than for music.

If money is no object then the pure edition might be something to look at provided your going to go to a 32gb phone. So far my understanding between the XT1097 and the pure edition is only storage capacity difference and unlocked boot loader but I did read in the development section that someone with a XT1097 used the same method to unlock his boot loader on the Telus model which means it only comes down to having extra storage. If anyone knows of other differences please tell us.
The other way to decide is look at your current phone and if you still have enough storage capacity on it then the Telus one should work for you.

I was wondering the same thing. Though I might wait a bit for Black Friday as Moto usually offers a discount on their phones around that time, or around Christmas. The only issue is that us Canadians will have to go over the boarder to pick it up.

I have been on ios for the last 5 years or so, bought the telus bamboo yesterday and i have already unlocked and rooted. The forum for me as a new android user was pretty strait forward and easy to comprehend and the pure method did indeed do the trick on my xt1097. If you are still undecided, i would recommend it and can testify to the effectiveness of the pure method as well as its ease.
With not a whole lot of convincing, I talked them into an additional incentive on a 2 yr so I not only didn't pay for it, but ended up with a negative balance on my bill. hehe
Hope that helps.
Does anyone know when is the end of the Telus exclusivity period?

Any Canadians Get a Moto Maker Moto X?

After hearing about the 140 dollar off black Friday sale, I am really considering the phone. The only issue is Moto does not ship to Canada, and I am not sure if they accept Canadian credit cards. Anyone in Canada ever manage to get a Pure Edition Moto X?

i got it when the preorder started.... but i have american credit cards.. had it shipped to my bro's place and he brought it over next time he came to town.. shame they don't have the moto maker in canada
I'm hoping to get in on the Moto Maker deal on Monday (I have relatives in the US, so I'm not so worried about shipping). The question I have is, are there any concerns about hooking it up to the Bell network? From what I'm seeing, I should get the "Pure Edition" and the bands look like they'd match up, but I'm hoping someone can verify that yes this will work before I drop $450 on a new phone

I might have to have my relatives help me out on that front, but as long as I can get the deal when the site is actually up, that shouldn't be a problem.
And thanks Steve-x for answering the bands question
Definitely a better plan than the Nexus 5 I was originally going to go for!
I bought a used Telus XT-1097 the other day, if not for that I was wanting the Pure edition as well as it is clearly the best model to buy. End of the day buying one locally that was like new for a fair price was just way easier then trying to get a US prepaid Visa. I didn't need to but I sim unlocked it for fun, it was less then 3 bucks for the code.
Will likely bootloader unlock and root after I've given it a really good test/workout.

You might want to wait until you get teh update before rooting and unlock boot loader.... seems I read in a few threads you have to flash back to a stock image to get the update....... unless of course your planning on flashing the XT1095 image.. but I'd research that first too...

Yeah, I have been waiting so far. It doesn't look too bad though. With 4.4.4 the unroot option in SuperSU should handle things just fine, then flash stock recovery back. The only two things I really want are ad blocking and to enable the green light to indicate when the phone is charging. Might also do a custom boot animation, again easy to undo.

maybe someone can explain why unlocked ist really unlocked......xt1096

So, BF came and I shot me a verizon unlocked xt1096 somewhat foolishly expecting that unlocked means fully unlocked.....means I can do with it what I want.
Not getting gang raped like the Apple crowd.
But it seems like I was wrong. After some days of just playing around with the new phone and still using my Note2 (rooted) I went ahead and made the full switch........
and got kicked in the balls when I realized that some of my beloved progs won't work because, the thing has a locked bootloader (wtf??) and can't be rooted (another wtf).
Now, I really wonder why this is, since I paid for the phone in full that I can not do with it what I want.
Maybe I am stupid (easily possible) but I don't get this. Can someone please explain why this is that way?
Thanks
K
probably stupid.
Verizon sells SIM unlocked devices. What you want is bootloader unlocked which is only possible on the pure edition devices which only work on At&t or T-Mobile in the states.
Caveat emptor.
Unlocked sim is not the same as unlocked bootloader........ two very different things
You have a logic error there. I bought it from Motorola NOT Verizon. So why does Verzion have control over a piece of equipment I bought from somewhere else?
Just because they "allow" me to pay them for their services?

I am growing pretty tired about that kind of BS in this country. Maybe I was to cradled by consumer protection laws in Europe, but I seriously doubt that kind of BS would fly in Europe.
I had a oneplus one and sold it because Tmobile didnt cover me....... I was with Verizon for 4 years under contract. SO I thought this way I get a better deal......

Yes, you were coddled by EU laws, welcome to freedom bro. The ONLY way to get a better deal with Verizon is to never have any form of contact with them, don't even make eye contact with the stores when you pass. :good:
You entered into a voluntary contract and should have read the conditions before signing.

What do you mean? I should have asked Motorola if they lock the bootloader in the name of the all so mighty overlord Verizon?
Sorry, but I think if I buy a factory unlocked phone, I should receive a unlocked phone. A phine that is free of the antics and bs of Verizon.
Thats why I opted out of my contract and went with a prepaid solution. Where I bring my own phone.
What nerves me most here, is that everyone takes the dry as* screwing like it is normal that you get drilled up the backside high and dry.
Where is the outcry? Is really everyone so commercially ironed out and conformed that we can be handled like money suppliers that bring their cash anyway?
Please don't answer, I really fear to hear many "yes" or even worse, if you don't like it go back to Europe.
I don't see what the problem is. Your money speaks your opinion. Cancel your service with verizon and switch to T-Mobile or at&t where you can use a PE. Or buy a nexus 6 (which can be unlocked on Verizon). The web has a vast amount of info on any phone you ever plan on buying.
you are overseeing one crucial point. I bought the phone from Motorola. NOT from Verizon. I bought it outside of a contract. I bought it unlocked.
And still Verizon has power over a phone they shouldn't have.
The problem with other providers around here is, that they don't have coverage......

You still bought a Verizon branded phone. Verizon doesn't care about whether or not you are on contract, what they care about is that you are on their network. They want to have full control of every device that's on their network, plain and simple. I understand your frustration but it's not like a precedent is being set here- this is how it's always been. Not trying to drive salt in the wound here but had you done your due diligence and researched prior to purchase, you could have avoided this little surprise. As I said, this is nothing new, unfortunately.

As far as I know, it is impossible to buy any variant of the Moto X 2014 that comes with an unlocked bootloader. Secondly, Motorola only marketed the Pure Edition Moto X (GSM) as being bloat-free. Motorola (or any other manufacturer for that matter) will never sell a CDMA phone that is not carrier-branded as all of the major CDMA carriers will only activate their own carrier-branded phones.
sorry but your statement is void. I bought from the maker. Not a reseller.

who else hate his moto X 2014 ATT Version?

damn i hate this phone.... really regret about buying it... stupid att with his locked bootloader... cant upgrade to lollipop.
love my 2014 att moto x. yes i want to upgrade. but it is stable and working fine for me.
i have lollipop on my nexus 7 fhd. whoopty whoop. really not a big deal. seriously.
Is is the best phone that I have ever owned? No absolutely not, the battery is pretty miserable, but other than that a few other small niggles, it is a good handset.
In fact it's signal reception and its ability to cancel out detuning on the fly is pretty impressive and make me pretty impressed in that Geeky sort of way with the phone.
Dan
So you're mad because you bought a subsidized phone with a locked bootloader instead of the unsubsidized Pure Edition with an unlocked bootloader that already has Lollipop available? What am I missing here?

Your not missing anything. He is pissed because he chose to not buy a pure edition( or couldn't afford one) hell, I'm still paying for mine with moto's financing.
I actually did the same thing. Both Moto's financing and the AT&T Next plan are basically 0% interest loans for a set number of months for the unsubsidized price. Knowing that, I went with Moto instead as that left my Next upgrade available should I not like this phone and want to return it and get another one. At the end of the day, both are the same price, divided by the same number of months, but I was able to get a Pure edition in the process. Now had you gone for the standard 2-year agreement, that's something else entirely.

Caveat emptor. You bought a phone without doing the proper research. You have nobody to blame but yourself.

I am considering the amazon version of this phone on verizon.

Is there anything I should know? Anyone have any thoughts? I am coming from the s5.
It would be nice to have a phone on verizon with official lineage os support, but there are limited options.
My questions before I purchase.
Is there xposed support for whatever android version is current on this phone?
What kind of nonsense do I need to go through to get the unlocked amazon version working on verizon?
What kind of roms are favored on this phone?
After some research, I am learning that the amazon version can't be bootloader unlocked, but the one direct from moto can be. Is this correct?
Amazon version can't be rooted or bootloader unlocked.

Most good sellers allow returns within a certain time period (and as long as you don't damage it). Check the listing description or message the seller. I got mine from here last year mint condition about $100 below Motorola retail.
Get the Android One version via Project Fi
I also came from a S5 and am thoroughly enjoying this phone. No restrictions on unlocking the bootloader (it is a setting you can enable/disable). Android One version is very bare bones. Battery life is great so I don't really miss the replaceable battery.
Project Fi is 1/2 the price that AT&T was (not including the rebates that had my bill at $40 for a few months) and it will get even cheaper when our two phones are paid off. Bonus is that you can block callers from leaving voicemails OR texting you via Project Fi's blocked caller list - this is something that I don't think AT&T or Verizon do.
