Hi All,
A couple of weeks ago while repairing the cracked screen of my HTC One I broke the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth cable running across the phone. I ordered a new one and used the phone without it (With very poor Wi-Fi range) until the new one arrived. The antenna arrived yesterday and I installed it in the phone, however, upon booting the phone I have found that the range is still very poor.
Someone please help!!!

You might have damaged your wifi/bluetooth transmitter/receiver by using it without the antenna connected. Transmitters are designed to work with antennas that have calculated length and impedance based on the wavelength (frequency) used. If not using the right antenna or no antenna, most of the power is reflected back to the Tx/Rx circuitry and can cause irreversible damage.
Never use a device without its antenna or with the wrong antenna, this apply for all devices that have transmitter circuits. (WiFi routers, phones, CB radios, etc etc).
I will not explain in details how it works, if you want to read more about this, search VSWR in google.

Probably need a mother board replacement if your issue is caused by what I said

Ok, so i took my N1 apart to replace the microusb port. After reassembling it, wifi has gone almost completely, except when i'm really close to the router. I've checked all the connectors so think it has to be the aerial foil or the coax, any ideas?
Everything else seems to be working fine.
The coax plugs are w.fl type but i can't find any info on the WIFI antenna.
Me too. I have no bluetooth or wifi. Just says 'Error' when trying to start. Obviously something wasn't put back right.
Suffering from the same issue on N1, after the assembly, wifi doesn't work and just shows error. I've tried different kernels and bcm4329.ko 's didn't help.
And i don't remember if i didn't assemble it right. Doubled checked to see if everything was in place. It is.

I have carefully replacing the M7 screen
The sim card is recognized but the connection to the provider became impossible.
Do you think that the GSM module is dead ?

You might have damaged a cable or a connector. You should disassemble and reassemble to double check everything is correctly connected and no damage to wires/connectors.
Did you operated the phone with the antennas disconnected (the back cover removed)? If yes your radio chip could have been damaged by reflected power. Antennas are critical, their impedance are calculated so they are balanced with the transmitter (SWR = 1). Remove your antenna and the transmitted power will be reflected back to the chip possibly causing irreversible damages. Thats why you never operate a radio transmitter (wifi router, CB radio, phone etc) without its antenna connected or a random antenna.
So I was replacing the screen on my M7 when I realized that I pried off the volume down button. So I had to replace the daughter card on my phone. Well I ordered the sprint specific daughter card and now I've got questions. This phone was purchased through sprint around the release of the M7. My replacement daughter card comes and it is missing two connection points. Both on the left side of the phone (if it's laying face down on the screen). One is a grey antenna cable from the motherboard to daughter board, the other is a black cable from bottom of motherboard to daughter board. I've attached an image showing their locations. Can anyone tell me if these were eliminated after the initial release of the phone? Can anyone speak to what they actually do? I've tested sprint cell signal, wifi signal, gps, and bluetooth so I know none of these are the antenna's not hooked up.
Hi guys, i bought this phone (used) and there was no issues, but in one day it stops searching wifi. It sometimes may do it, but most time it shows that there is no networks nearby.
I think i should replace wifi module, but found no information where is it on this phone. May somebody told me that?
Hello, I don't think you can change the wifi module : it most likely is a chip soldered on the mainboard, you might want to check the connection between the mainboard and the antenna ?

this might make sense, which antenna should I check?
I don't own the Xperia 10 but it can be either embedded on the chassis with little nipples pressed on contacts on the mainboard (or the over way around) or it could be "standard" U.FL connector. If your device has fallen many times they could be a little loose as these are quite flimsy
Hi all. Somebody gave me a phone with a really smashed up screen and said I could have it if I could save the date. Anyway, I swapped the screen out but haven't glued the phone back together again yet. Everything appears fine but I notice there's no sound and the WiFi/network signal is awful and the best I can get is "can't provide internet" even when I stand next to the router.
My question is are these functions dependent on the back panel being assembled again? The sound probably is but shouldn't the WiFi be OK? The white and grey antenna cables look like they are fine and in place.

I don't know how this model is built exactly. but in my old smartphone (redmi note 4), the wifi/bluetooth board was separate, along with the usb port, and connected to the main board by wires and, if i'm not mistaken, an antenna. I had to replace this with a new one because it was faulty (poor BT/Wi-fi signal and broken USB Port). check if these cables are ok and if this board (if any) were not damaged along with the screen

Thanks! I did some more tests today and if I literally touch the phone off the router and use the regular (not 5G) band I can get the internet on the phone so I think it's a problem of degree and not something totally broken. The antennas cables definitely appear 100% and I've no idea how they could have been affected by anything I've done but that's something I'll keep in mind before I glue the back on again.
OK so I've put the frame together and everything works great! Except the 5Ghz Wifi. Connects to router but no internet. The 2.4GhZ works great, as does the phone network. Sound is great too. In fact the last issue I have is that the selfie cam is VERY blurry. Maybe I dirtied the glass during the screen change? Anyway, looks easy enough to lift out the selfie cam and clean in there, should be OK.
The back fits on very snug, should be fine to glue once that's done.
100% fixed, yay!
And fer gawds sake I scrape some sort of film covering off the inside of the glass through the gap where the selfie cam goes... and then when I assembled it all again the screen cracked!
Cursed! It's one hairline all across it but it still works fine now otherwise and I'm leaving it like this!

In this case, could be the wireless router. My phone cant connect to 80mhz bands on 5Ghz wi-fi, but in 20 or 40mhz It connects successfully. Did you checked this?

It connects directly to my 2.4Ghz router but not to either 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz bands coming out of my range extender. Weird. Maybe there's some settings in the extender I can change.
