[Q] GEL vs Stock launcher - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I prefer either GEL or Nova to stock launcher. Will using either of these interfere with Moto Actions? I want all of the Moto features, they're why Ibought the phone. Thanks

I'm using GEL and everything works perfectly. The Moto circle commander widget works perfectly too.

Excellent. Thanks much.

[Q] SmartActions?

Coming from the Bionic as a past phone, I liked Moto's Smart Actions. Its not on the X, but Assist is. Assist only has 2 profiles, and there doesn't seem to be a way to add any others. Am I just missing something? Is there away to add more profiles or choices?
Using SmartActions on my Bionic was pretty seamless, I didn't see any negative impact on battery, and I didn't know it was running. If there is no way to add to Moto Assist on the X, is there any way to get Smart Actions onto a non-rooted X? (the listing in Plays says the X is incompatible, so wont download it,).
If not, what are your suggestions for a good, simple, alternative?
I'm really only looking to do a couple of things...
1. When at work (based on GPS location), turn off wifi, and set phone to vibrate.
2. When I leave work, return to previous settings
3. When at home (based on GPS location), Turn ON wifi, bluetooth, set phone to loudest volume
Thanks!

That's a good deal, they are usually kind of over priced. Do the Samsung ones work well with the moto x? Heard some conflicting reports about the Samsung tiles not working well with non Samsung devices.

works fine on my moto x. so far i am only using three of them, work, run, drive.
Looks good.. missing only phone triggered actions; in my case "VIP" phone calls (i.e. the Wife) coming thru even when silenced (as at work). Any possibilities for this in Trigger? Tasker etc are too complicated/ advanced for me..
I like an app called automateit found on the playstore.

Porting moto Assist to N6

Hey guys. Total XDA noob here.
I got my n6 came from the 2013 motox.
I love the n6 but there's one thing I miss bad enough to consider going back to the x.
Moto assist.
So this is a request/challenge. Can anyone help me get the apk for moto assist up and running on my N6?
And I'm decent for a noob with side loading and what not.

I second this. As it would be awesome.
Moto assist is nice but I really miss Moto display...ambient display is terrible. Is there any precedence for porting an oem software to a non supported device?

I actually tried that yesterday, Assist installs just fine but when launched it displays an "Unsupported device" message. Modality won't even install. My Nexus 6 isn't rooted though so I didn't try modifying the build.prop but setting it to a 2014 Moto X might do the trick.
Maybe all it takes is a simple build.prop edit to make the app believe it's a 2014 X?
Can anyone walk me through setting the build.prop to a motox 2014? Or would that cause me to lose other functionality in other apps?
The moto assist app works on a partition of its dual core processor. I don't think it is as simple as changing a build.prop.
What part of assist do you want? If it's the voice texting while driving try the Agent App. It's a pretty good replacement for the driving portion of moto assist.
Anyone try the APKs from the Droid Turbo system dump? Since they're practically identical wrt specs & resolution, I'd expect those files to work with the N6... except Lollipop isn't out yet on that platform...

Pretty much just the driving portion

Yeah then try agent. You'll have to configure it initially because its set to auto reply to texts while driving. It reads your texts to you and asks if you want to reply in basically the same way. It detects your driving when connected to specific Bluetooth devices. It has motion detection but it is in beta but I never tested it since I preferred to activate when connected to Bluetooth.
I've been thinking a lot about this. Truthfully the whole voice command/response with the moto x was a far better experience. What are the chances of a custom ROM that incorporates the moto x features? I don't know what I'm gonna do without those features
Good point. I just bought a 2013 Moto X to see what the world knows about Moto phones that I did not. I got the DE edition for $229, great price.
I'm really liking the hands free aspect of the Moto apps. I was psyched to buy the N6, but it's lack of the Moto apps has me hesitating. I really miss Qi charging & believe it was a misstep to not include it on either Moto. Cool to see the new Druid, but is on Verizon only. Be very cool if these apps or a rom could be developed to incorporate these features. In the meantime, I'm biding time with the Moto X until there's N6 stock or a similar Moto phone to the Droid that will work with AT&T.

Yea I'm missing my x but the n6 is a better device overall. We'll see what happens over the next couple weeks with development. I'd pay to have the x's feature set though.
I'd really like to get Moto Display ported as well... Don't like the play store alternatives.
was anyone successfully able to get moto assist to work with the N6?
Moto X Pro will bring some hope
As motorola is launching Moto X Pro there is a hope that Nexus 6 can get moto Assist, as both share same configuration. :good:

Not yet, but possibly soon
Ah those features would be pretty nice on the N6
They come in handy, its a nice suite of features. I look forward to this as well.

moving to new phone from one x..

Hi,
I am not a noob.
Moto x 2014 or nexus 5??
Which one is good??
I got to know that moto X doest run pure android and it runs GEL..
Moto x runs closest to pure android then any other phone besides the obvious Nexus. In fact its like running stock with a few amazing features thrown in to enhance the stock experience. I'd easily pick this phone over a nexus 5.

I just handed down my N5 and got a MX. Both phones are fantastic. I'd take them both over any other device out there. Can't go wrong. MX is a slight upgrade from the N5, but only slightly. N5 is more bang for your buck
I have heard that moto x lags when you switch to google search(swipe most left) on launcher and while pulling down notification.

No lag whatsoever. At least on kitkat

voice recognition faster and more reliable on the 2013 moto x?

It can't be just me. But the voice recognition seems to be far superior on the old moto x. This one is a huge let down.

Possibly the lack of the X8 processor?
If you use "OK Google now" it retains its superiority. I tried quite a few custom ones and went back to the original. Works great.
I have to noticed if you use the default it seems to be much better and less problems.

Are Moto Z2 play cases compatible with Moto Z2 force?

The case I'm currently using was a z2 play case . I'm gonna say that all the ones I tried on worked fine, except for like 1 or 2. Your mileage may vary, but should be good.

Can you please post links of cases which you think / know would work fine for moto z2 force :good:
I think your Volume Up and Power key will have problem using Moto Z Play or Moto Z2 Play because I'm using the silicon case.
