Disable everything... And then no point in having a smartphone.

Is there a difference between the Note 4 built in Whatsapp & the play store one?
I have read some people want to uninstall it.

No difference.
It's same app but configured as system. It will update as any other normal app.

disable s health is fine but facebook and whatsapp is the reason why ppl wants a smartphone...why not disable eveything and make it nokia

#Disclaimer: apply at own risk.#
What I've frozen so far, with Titanium backup. Am not getting any errors / reduced functionality.
Freezing / disabling apps is sometimes a necessity, this phone is full of (for some of us) unnecessary apps. Nothing to do with it still being a smartphone or not. It's about being in control of your smartphone.

Please remember that everyone's usage of a device is individual - posting to question or point out that disabling apps somehow stops the device from being a smartphone is a bit short sighted...
We use Android devices for a reason - they're configurable to an insane degree. Having a thread showing which apps can be disabled without affecting the overall system stability is a pretty standard for XDA.

without root i disabled the following without any problems...
blurbcheckout
flipboard
galaxy apps
google play books, movies, music, newstand, search, plus, hangouts
hp print service
live weather
messenger (fb)
samsung account
samsung billing
samsung galaxy app/widget
samsung galaxy life
samsung print service
samsung push service

Much impact on battery life? Noob question, but how did you do this without root?

Hi
Go into settings>application manager>all
Than open the apps listed and click "Disable", some may have updates which will uninstall first before disabling

S-apps Soft Dependencies

I wondered if anyone else has noticed the sheer amount of soft dependencies that the S-apps have on each other, especially S-Voice. For example S-voice can't make a memo without S-notes and can't retrieve news without Flipboard.
Many other examples exist. S-Notes has options in the settings to sync with Samsung cloud, even if the Samsung cloud syncing apps/services are removed, even the cloud services seem to have some soft dependencies with Dropbox.
All the S-apps will of course function for the most part on their own, but might have such issues or orphan settings, something I just don't like.
A lot of TW ROMS are debloating by removing some of these apps, but I don't know if everyone realizes what I just mentioned.
Personally I would prefer just the Samsung camera, but I have heard (though not tried without) that even it is dependent on S-Voice. If this is so and if it is possible I would hope at some point to see a modded version of the Camera that makes it fully independent.

No, that is not so. I have nearly every Samsung component disabled, including S Voice, and I use the Samsung camera with no problem... maybe there's some feature in there that doesn't work that I've just never hit, but generally, the camera works fine on its own.
Voice Control of Camera, Incoming Calls, Camera and Music are all Dependant on SVoice

I tried a few hours ago, the camera freezes and crashes if you try to turn on voice commands in the camera settings. As long as this is not hit it works, but I hate that they would make the option to say "Shoot" to take a picture dependent on another app.

If they didn't do that than every app you mention would be twice the size because they would have to include the code for those options in each of the individual app.

Exactly, the S4 wasnt made for removing system apps or modifying the system. It was meant to be used the way it is out of the box which is why voice commands for music, camera, alarm and answering calls is dependant on S-Voice... easier to integrate dependancy unto another app versus integrating a sepaeare feature into every one of those lol

Ok, well, we have an interesting discrepancy here them... I just confirmed I have S Voice disabled... I then went into Camera, turned voice control on (it was off to start) and was able to take a picture by saying "Cheese"... no crash or anything, it worked as expected.
I also confirmed I can also still receive incoming calls... I don't use the music app and have it disabled so I didn't check that... so something doesn't jive with what you guys are apparently seeing. Maybe there's something else the camera specifically is dependent on and not S Voice *directly*?
For reference, here's what I currently have disabled... I think 2 or 3 of them I did through Titanium, the rest are just standard "system" disabled... I also have a few other things Greenified, but this is just what's outright disabled...

I moved the S-Voice apk out of the system folder when I tried it, I wouldn't think that it would make a difference versus freezing it though, but maybe that is possible? I didn't do a reboot when I tried, but I would think that if it had no relation to it, it shouldn't matter?
If I disable Svoice and try and take a pic with voice it force closes.

I actually screwed up my phone by deleting some apps (mostly Google). Every time I wanted to launch settings it would just crash. And stupid me didn't even think to make a back up of the apps. so moral of the story? Always be sure to back up the app before uninstalling.

Hey, I've been using my d410 for almost 6 months now. Battery life used to be amazing. I've rooted my phone, and removed a ton of bloatware with titanium backup. Don't have any games installed either. Over the last two weeks, the battery has started heavily draining. According to battery usage, the biggest culprit seems to be the OS (4.4.2) it eats up anywhere between 45-55% of the battery. Even in standby mode or at night, I lose about 10%!!! I used to charge the battery only when it was less than 5% quite frequently, could that have damaged my battery? Also many times my battery takes almost 6hrs to completely charge! I'd really like some help! Thanks in advance

install watchdog app from play store. it will detect if any app draining battery. if it didn't detected any app, then it might be battery problem. also give a try to another charger. :good:
I'd actually used watchdog quite some time back, but it didn't seem to help me. I guess it could be a battery problem... Can't say for sure. I read up a bit, and it turns out kitkat 4.4.2 eats up a lot of battery. So I plan to Flash my rom. Hope it'll help. Btw, gsam battery monitor is pretty useful to check which apps are actually eating up chunks of the battery.
Can I ask how can uninstall Google Chrome and Hangouts from my LG L90 after the Lollipo update? I usually use Clean Master to uninstall these bloatwares (rooted, of course), and I could remove then while in KitKat, but now those apps can't be removed because they appear as blocked.
Opening the details, Hangouts says it breaks SMS functions on Google Device, but I have an LG. Google Chrome reports that when uninstalled I won't be able to use default browser, but AFAIK I've set the UC Browser as default lon time ago (however, prior the root)
There are others like Dictionary, File Manager (I prefer ES Explorer) and so on, all blocked.

[Q] Which system apps are safe to freeze?

Hey guys,
Is there any system apps or tasks that I can't ever freeze?
All google apps like Google Docs, Sheets, Play Movies, Play Games, Google+ etc. Then various Google keyboard inputs which you are not using like I am not using Google Korean so disabled it. HP Print service, Photos (I don't take online backup of photos so don't need it).
Avoid using Facebook app, instead use browser for FB and G+.
No need to disable Moto Service, afterall these features are what make it a MotoX and also turning any of those service doesn't make any big difference in battery life or performance.
Once you disable the above services/apps, nothing useless left.

Thanks for the reply, man.
But I want to make a new question.
As we navigate on Rom Toolbox (for example), we see a lot of tasks there and somethings I neved heard of... I'd like to know which one of them I can freeze and which ones I can't ever because it would shut the system down.
Don't freeze anything unless you know what it is, and have a specific reason for freezing it.
A lot can actually be frozen depending on what 3rd party apps you use. I actually freeze/disable a ton of stuff on my phone!
If you use a 3rd party camera, you can uninstall the stock one.
Tags is another, i don't even have a clue what this is for but i've never had a drawback from disabling or uninstalling it.
Sound recorder.
I could go on and list a whole bunch, but i really don't know what you have installed for 3rd party.

Let me know if you have other things you disabled and if it had any side effects.

NOTE Edge debloater
I can't find the link, but, someone mentioned that the Edge Note debloater WILL work, and does.
Without root you can only hide apps, but, it allows you to hide some that you cannot using the built-in method, like EMAIL, BROWSER, ETC.

Right, using the UI you can click disable to disable apps. For the ones that you can't disable you can "hide" with adb shell (or that tool).
That tool I think is only windows but i'd imagine it's simply leveraging the "pm" binary on android.
For example if i drop into an adb shell on my edge and run
pm hide com.sec.android.app.sbrowser
Then that samsung browser is now gone.
Just remember which you hide as they won't show up and the only way to bring them back is to run
pm unhide on it.

So if im correct. When i "disable" an app using the actual phone, this will also keep the app from running (or any of its services) But using the Debloater app and i "hide" them the app can still run (or its services) correct?

If you disabled Samsung Account (it is on OP's list), then it won't work. Go to Disabled, find it, and re-enable if you are using things that require it.
Got it to work by doing a factory reset

The debloater app can actually restore all at once if you mess something up
Now that we have root what would be the best way to remove these apps

Question How to disable most bloatware on S21 Ultra without adb or root

I have a factory-unlocked S21 Ultra (in the US).
This is what I have Disabled / Uninstalled -- without adb:
- Netflix (Disabled)
- Netflix Partner Activation (Disabled)
- Facebook (Uninstalled directly, Samsung allows you to do so)
- Facebook App Manager (Disabled)
- Facebook App Installer (Disabled)
- Facebook Services (Disabled)
Here's how you do it: Settings > Battery & Device Care > Storage > ⋮ > Advanced > Other apps > ⋮ > Show system apps
- Now, as an example: search for Facebook.
- Select, for example, "Facebook Services".
- Clear cache and Clear data.
- Select the icon for "Facebook Services".
- Now, select Disable.
I would have liked to uninstall Bixby, Weather (because ads show up, but, I just use weawow instead), and Samsung Messages. But, I settled for disabling background data access and other things. I've cleared their data out as well. They don't seem to be in RAM.
Plus, I have Customization Service turned off and I have all my privacy settings set to a maximum.

Search for "private dns" via Finder and then put in: dns.adguard.com
That'll block a ton of ads.
Also, Samsung Health is uninstallable for me. I use it with my FIt2 though.
Samsung browser is OK. I use it occasionally. Its Dark Mode is enviable. Just adjust the settings and install ABP or AdGuard on it.
Firefox is my main browser though because it supports uBlock, Dark Reader, etc.

that app is a bit controversial, it uses code taken from a free magisk module and charges for it. the creators of the borrowed code want the app given away for free.
