Gmail 5.0 Exchange Services killing battery - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Has anyone tried the apk's for the new Gmail 5.0 with Exchange support? Looks and works great but Exchange services is killing my battery. It seems to be downloading my Exchange mail store. I've double checked my sync settings, reinstalled, etc. The stock email app didn't do this.

help
The exchange apk and gmail 5 messed up exchange email on my phone. It wont sync or let me delete the account. I uninstalled gmail 5 and am trying to readd my exchange email on the stock email but it is erroring out now. Anyone have the original exhange services apk that comes stock on the droid turbo???

Did you uninstall the Exchange services app you had to download with Gmail 5.0? Settings>apps then uninstall Exchange services.

Yes I did that but still refuses to add

Third time's the charm apparently. I reinstalled again and after about an hour of high battery use, it's settled down.

Ugh, I installed on my Verizon S5 NI 4.4.4. Worked great at getting my email. But just chews through battery. Unusable. Tried reinstalling,, readding account, etc... No joy. Any other suggestions?

Give it a few hours to download everything. I had the same thing happen but it finally settled down. Then last week we changed everyone's Exchange password and it happened again - Exchange services burned up the phone for a couple hours then settled down. I'm getting great battery life now.

Thanks. Interesting. I had it installed and working for 4 days. I would think that would be enough time, but it never let up. As soon as I removed it and rebooted battery consumption was back to normal.

Email not pushing emails

I run exchange on my phone along with 2 gmail accounts. I use gmail app for the gmail accounts and the stock email app for my exchange account. My gmail accounts auto retrive emails, but recently the exchange emails are not auto syncing or retriving. When i go to change the settings, the option for Retrieve Interval is set to "off" and is blacked out so i cannot change it. What happened so that this changed, because a few days ago it was working fine. Permissions Check does not change this. I am rooted and on Cubes' De-Crapped v1.1 rom.

Android 2.2 Email client has many many issues working with exchanges. 2.1 works great 2.3 works so good it is almost a religious experience but 2.2 licks the underside of male genitals...
I get constant authentication errors with mine. I had the same issues with my Droid Eris when I ran 2.2 on it. When I switched to 2.3 it was a thing of beauty.
Your only option is to get your exchange admin to adjust your exchange server to fix the problems (good luck), wait for 2.3, or download another app to handle your exchange email.
Sorry...

[Q] Gmail syncing slow on 4.4

I know I asked this before but every since I updated to 4.4 my gmail sync has been painfully slow. Once in a while I'll get an instant notification other times I'll have to wait upwards of 5 minutes for it to come through. I didn't have this issue on 4.3. All I noticed when I checked the sync settings is that the sync icon was stuck on gmail and I had to manually refresh it. Does anyone have any suggestions. I already cleared the data and rebooted but there is no change.

All those are fine. I'll send a test email and it will be instant but if I repeat it I'll have to wait 5+ minutes for it to come up again.
Mine Is Just Slow To Sync
My issue is similar, but different. My Gmail app on my phone is not syncing (or at least it takes forever) to sync with the Gmail itself.
If I delete 10 messages from my phone (Gmail) then go to a computer and visit my Gmail account via a web browser, the messages are still there.
I'm running HTC One. 4.4 Kit Kat Seems to have started around the time I upgraded. I also have a Google Apps domain, not straight Gmail. But we all know Google Apps mail is just Gmail with your own domain name.
Anyone else having this issue?
DISREGARD, I RESOLVED BY: FORCE STOPPING MAIL APP, CLEAR DATA. THEN RECONFIG CLIENT/APP.

[Q] Email Sync Issues

I'm having an issue with email sync. In the email app, one of my email accounts will sync for a few days then just stop syncing. I don't notice it until it dawns on me that I haven't gotten new email in a while. It won't let me manually sync either. At the top, the last sync date will remain static showing a few days ago. I've deleted the account and then set it up again twice and that works for a few days, then it fails again. This is an old verizon.net account that I've never had issues with on any other device. Any thoughts?

Mine was acting up this morning, I just rebooted, and I was able to sync again.
Not sure if that will help, or if you have tried that, but that has helped me.

Oh yeah, well past that. I've rebooted, unchecked and rechecked the sync box, messed with the sync settings... the only thing that seems to work is deleting the account and adding it back..

With which email provider are you having trouble? Is it Verizon as well? (hoping that we can at least narrow down the problem...)
Thanks!
Also - Is everyone still using the stock email app, or are you having issues with another app too? I'm stock and am getting ready to try something different.

I run 4 separate email accounts (POP, IMAP, and Exchange, but not Verizon) and don't have any problems. The only thing I can think of that hasn't already been suggested is to clear the cache and/or data for the email app in the application manager. If this is an Exchange account clear the data/cache for the Exchange services app also.
I had an issue with the stock e-mail app not syncing properly with gmail. New e-mails would come in, but old ones that were read would not be marked as read. As such it had over 50 unread e-mails even though the gmail app or gmail website had 2 or 3.
I switched to K-9 Mail which works much better.

This dude is just trying to get his post count up. Besides adding nothing to the conversation, he is becoming quite annoying repeating what others say in other threads.

I think I'm going to have to end up running another email app as well.
That leads me to another quandary. K-9 won't do hotmail. Mailbox and Cloud Magic won't do anything but gmail and iCloud. I need to find something that can handle a hotmail (IMAP I think) account, a verizon POP3 account, and a Gmail account. Any thoughts?

Where I work, we have 5 Galaxy S5's and we have all experienced this issue. One of my users has it happen every Tuesday. This is only with the stock email app. Other apps seem fine, but that's ridiculous....it shouldn't be doing this.

Microsoft exchange, question? Deleting? Getting FC?

When this am to t-mobile and picked up my new N6, Absolutely love the phone so far. Coming from the Z2 I actually think the pictures are better despite the higher MP. So I am running into an issue trying to sync my work email. (Microsoft Exchange). I did this like I normally with every phone, settings/accounts/add account. I understand now everything is synced through gmail. Account starts to load, it in fact loaded all of my emails before October . Then the account starts to freak out, and getting error messages. Getting an exchange error, over and over and over, having to click error code at least 10 to 15 times before I can use phone normally. So I have installed a 3rd party app for exchange and everything works perfect. I have tried to uninstall the exchange account through gmail/google account, and there is no where to remove it. Does anybody have a guidance on where or how to remove it, or a work around to get it to work through the gmail account. I have searched everywhere on this coming up blank, I have tried clearing cache, deleting data and it is still there as well. Thank you in advance
I synced my work exchange email using gmail and it worked fine. Set it sync the last month of emails, and calender. To remove it you have to go Settings-Accounts-Exchange-Click on Account-Then where it shows what is synced under the menu/options there is a Remove Account option. When deleting it will delete everything synced (emails, calender, contacts, etc)
Any way to use secure certificates with exchange in 5.0? I use touchdown now and it works fine but I really like the new gmail interface.

Try Force Stopping the Gmail app and then check. If your still FCing, remove your exchange account and Force Stop Gmail again then re add your Exchange.

You'll have to get the certificates on your device first. Then go to Security>Install from Storage (under the Credential Storage header; above Advanced).
Edited for typo's.

My only experience was with the new gmail and exchange apk from a recent Android Police article. I installed the certificate but there were no options for encryption or signing in the app. I was wondering if 5.0 changed that. Hopefully it did.

You would apply your company-issued Client Certificate when you adding the Exchange Account to Gmail.
Add Account
Enter your Email Address
Tap "Manual Setup"
Enter your password
Tap "Select"
If your certificates are downloaded and visible to Gmail oo your device, they should appear here. If not, read the prompt and tap "Install" to find your certificate to install

I am having the exact same issue. I did a factory reboot and I am still having a problem with it. I can't sync my email or it does a constant force close. Not sure what is going on. My calendar syncs just fine.

Mine also gave me trouble when I first added my exchange account. Rebooted still had the issue. Left my phone alone a while and its been fine since. Only had the error once today. Not sure what caused or fixed the problem. I think it was something on the server side as I had problems with my exchange server on my Note 2 as well.

Exchange constantly force closing

Hi guys,
I have an AT&T N6 and I'm trying to get my company exchange account setup on it. I'm able to successfully but when it goes to sync it just constantly force closes. Anyone else seen this?
No one else?
Hi,
Same problem here, Gmail started a crash report after trying to sync-loop like crazy with exchange, I had to use "Nine - Exchange ActiveSync" which fortunately works fine (I was using that app with my previous phone).
Nine is pretty awesome..... Just wish stock one would work to have everything in one spot. Oh well, I'm sure it will get fixed soon. At least I hope ?
Hi,
I received a gmail update yesterday, and now it' works fine, but I went back to nine because the gmail app doesn't have a unified inbox folder (I have a lot of folders in my exchange email lol)
What version of Exchange are you connecting to?
I have two Office 365 Exchange accounts on my phone, no bubbles no troubles.
you asked OP or me? , I am very sure that's in my case it's exchange 2010 (since I'm the server admin...)
anyways with the new Gmail, ver 5.0.1 (1618411), it's works fine and doesn't "force close-crash-loop" anymore.

Had the same issue and switched to Nine. Now that it's fixed I don't think I'm going back. Nine is just so much better.
I had this same issues with my nexus the other night. Constantly force closed. Got so bad the power button and screen were unresponsive.
