Moto X Back Grip - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if there is a different between the smoothness in the "neutral" color backs (black, slate) and the "cool" color backs (navy, teal)? I have a "cool" navy back and I think that it's rather slick. I was contemplating sending it back for an exchange for a slate back because it mentions that it's textured and it might be a little more grippy. I also qualify for the $50 educational discount that I didn't realize was available when I first ordered the phone and that I'll use on the replacement phone (I contacted motorola and they told me that I couldn't use the discount retroactively). The $50 is only really worth it if there is a difference in the back cover texture.

I have the black back, and it has a very nice and grippy soft touch finish.

Leather really cheap and thin on Moto X 2014

Just got my Moto X 2014 and the leather is so cheap and thin. Im so scared this is not going to last long. Why did Motorola use such a thin piece of leather? It also looks cheap.
Hey, I was wondering if the leather was thin or cheap?
Personally, I've had my black leather Moto X for a few weeks now, and I'm quite impressed at the quality of the leather. I guess my expectations were set when I had the wood back on the 2013 Moto X and took the back off to see the wood was probably around a millimeter thick. I guess I don't see them using more than 1-2mm for the back of the phone when it's 9.9 mm thick to begin with.
As for how well it will hold up over 2 years, that I can see a concern over... but I was willing to take the chance.
Did you want a big thick hunk of leather sticking out over the sides of the phone?
how do you know how thin it is? did you take the back off? This is horween leather, which is the same tannery that makes the leather for NFL official footballs. I really don't think this is cheap leather. Personally I am extremely pleased with the overall look of my leather back. If you want it to last 2 years, you just have to take really good care of it. Personally I am done letting people hold my phone because for some reason when I tell them it is leather they can't help but dig their nails into it. Also if you think the leather looks cheap, why did you order a leather back? there have been plenty of pictures floating around the web that clearly show how the leather looks.
Im just use to the old leather battery doors that Blackberry Bolds had. Its thin I can see it between the cam. I do love the phone. Just wish maybe I would of held off on the leather. Also the gold accents you cant see the color. I should of went with a brigter color.
What do you mean you can see it between the cam? Pretty sure there is a return policy if you are that unhappy with it

Have had mine for a couple weeks now and no issues here. It is holding up great and feels great. Personal preference I guess.
I have been loving my leather back. I seen reviewers say it scars easy and stuff like that. Mine seems to heal it's self of like creases when something is pressed against it. Though I am sure it would not fare well to scrapes from something rough like a stone or concrete...but then again I don't plan on hitting the back of my phone with those objects.

[Q] Moto X Black Leather 16gb or Soft Touch Back 32gb

I'm having trouble on deciding which one I should order. Those are the only options I can get. Both retail. The Leather one, though, is a little more expensive, even with less storage.
Is the Leather back worth that much? Also, what about the peeling issue?

I had the regular black back and exchanged it for the black leather. I wish I didn't. Get the 32gb regular one.

My luck isn't in a good position these days. Just when I was going to order it from Amazon.de, they raised the price 50 euros.
You are much more likely to regret the less storage space than the plastic back. I was definitely pleased to see the $140 discount worked on a 32gb .
I went with the Soft Touch Black. I was considering leather also, but the Soft touch regular is more grippy than the leather, without having to worry about scratches and everything. Not to mention if you have a regular back then you still have the option to use skin covers later on for new styles.
It comes down to how much you really want that leather look and feel (I was disappointed that it wasn't more grippy though).
I ran across a review of the phone at a show in Chicago and the author mentioned the back of the leather phone already showed signs of wear. If a phone that just sits on a table shows wear, good luck with carrying in a pocket or purse.
How likely is the leather to start unpeeling? Is it fixable?
Plus, how does it feel in hand? Better than the soft touch?
I just got the option of getting a friend to send me a Moto X from the UK with the 100 pound discount.
I might be too late to this party, but go with storage space over the leather. By time you take into account the OS and the fact that you never fully get 16gb, you'll be looking at like 12gb of space. That's not a lot.

I can now get 32gb Leather. The decision now is if I should go with soft touch plastic or leather.

Honestly, for longevity, I'd get the soft touch. But I'm sure the leather would feel great.
The leather is awesome. PM me

Need help choosing between a few cases

Hi guys !
So I just ordered a 2014 Moto G. Need help on deciding what case to buy.
Do any of you have opinions/experiences on/with the following cases ? I need something thats slim yet protective. These are the cases that I am able to get locally (South Africa)
Fosmon Dura-Fro
Orzly FlexiCase
Cotechs Black Fusion Bumper
Theres also the Cruzerlite Bugdroid which is slightly out of my price range, but if its highly recommended, I'll consider it.
So yeah, any opinions wrt to the cases are welcome. Thanks !
Just got my Moto G2, waiting on this one: SUPCASE [Unicorn Beetle Series], sorry, can't post links yet.
I received the Bugdroid with a G1 I had previously bought used. I didn't like it, it had cutouts for the buttons, so they were harder to actuate,
it was kind of tight and a bit stiff. I also didn't care for the graphic on the back. The 3 you mentioned all get good reviews on Amazon,
the Fosmon has the most reviews.
Bugdroid
I'm currently using a lime green Bugdroid case on my G (2014). I have a love/hate relationship with it.. I love the color & design, however whenever debris gets up under the lip of the case, the material magnifies it, so I have to take the case off several times a day to remove debris, otherwise it looks atrocious.. Also, the cutouts aren't quite big enough to effectively hit the buttons. All in all, I'd stay away from it.. Mine will be coming off when my Dbrand skin comes next Wednesday/Thursday.
Edit: just looked at the Amazon listing for the Bugdroid, you may not have the debris issue with the pure black/white versions of the case, they don't look to be transparent like the rest of the color choices.

Dbrand Skin leather?

Was thinking about getting a white leather Dbrand skin for the back of my white Moto X phone. Does it really feel like leather? I have never used Dbrand before but they look pretty good from what I can tell....

They are vinyl and they feel like vinyl, not leather. I think the white leather ones look pretty fake based on pics I have seen online.
FYI - slickwraps makes similar skins and you get 20% if you sign up for their emails. The back only is $9 before the discount. They have a small shipping charge too.

I had the black leather one on my nexus 4 and it does not feel like leather at all. One of the reasons I went with the moto x so I could get real leather built in.

Leather Options

Just got the Verizon black leather variant of the G4 yesterday. I had read that some people didn't think the Verizon leather felt as nice/soft/leathery as the tan leather offered by T-Mobile, but decided to go ahead and order the leather from V anyway. It's not terrible, but I agree it feels a bit "textured plastic" like. Is there consensus that the tan T-Mobile backs are indeed better than Verizon's black one? I guess I would prefer something that feels a little more like a leather work glove or baseball glove that softens overtime. The tan one looks like it might be more like that? Verizon's leather doesn't feel like it will do that at all, but perhaps I'm wrong. I know there are lots of different places to buy backs and I've looked at a bunch, but not sure which to try. The different color backs from LG appear like they are the same texture as the black Verizon one. Do they have the same feel or different/better? Are there differences between the different carrier phones that I need to make sure I get a back for a Verizon phone, or are they interchangeable between carriers? I'd appreciate hearing opinions on the best feeling leather option out there, and if you happen to have a link to the one you bought, even better!
Thanks in advance!
I would guess that the two different texture backs have different feel/wearing characteristics. The tan leather seems smooth, but the black (at least the Sprint variety) is bumpy/stiffer.
The black and other colors are textured and feel more stiff in comparison to the smooth brown leather for the T-Mobile version. The smooth T-Mobile brown back is more prone to damage though since it's soft. The black and other colors will hold up better to wear.

Are the backs interchangeable between carriers? Would a T-Mobile smooth brown back work on the Verizon model?

Thanks! Now to see if I can find one to try out.
Well, I guess buy a leather case from Spigen or somewhere else. DesignSkin's leather cases are not bad. I think buying a leather case is the best option. Find a leather case that really make your phone look awesome.
