same here, it keeps turning on everytime i move my hand, and then sometimes when i want it to turn on it doesn't. I wish i could just deactivate this and use the power button / tap the screen

The answer to this problem is simple. When turning your wrist, simply flick it down with a quick rotation toward yourself and the screen will activate every time. There is nothing wrong with the accelerometer. It is just set to not turn on from random movement.
The wrist flick toward you and down is the key.

Funny mine turns on every time I even move my arm

I returned my first one and the second one is MUCH better.

i would prefer an option to calibrate this behaviour or even disable it^^
It's okay to me to tap on the screen for activating

movement to wake the watch

So I have the watch now for more than a week and I love it. One thing I hate though is that weird movement to wake the screen to check the time. It works in 75% of the time but 25% of the time it just doesn't work. And if it doesn't work, a repetition of the movement can result in a constant fail to wake the watch. In those cases it would be great to have a "fall back" or "backup" movement. For example turning your wrist a few times very fast.
Or are there some good tips to reduce the 25% fail ratio?

some here
Mine wakes 95% of the time iiiffff i turn it at a slow pace. pebbles quick jerk wake up makes more sense. I dont like it because its not natural to slowly rotate your wrist to check the time.

More importantly where do we think the gesture would be stored ? In what APK..
Surely we can adjust the sensitivity..

Yep yep was also thinking about this. But I bet that it is hard coded in the kernel. Nevertheless definitely going to do some research to see if some parameters can be changed. Time to flash your Rom
A double tap on the screen would be excellent.
I've found that you can move your wrist as fast or slow as you want, but you have to hold it toward your face a second or two and it will come on.

Or, you know, there's that big button on the side of watch for exactly this purpose...

I know.
It's got to be the rolling motion when the watch is oriented like you are holding a steering wheel. Look how much the watch turns on when driving.
The problem I have, is not only does the default not always wake the watch when you want to, it often wakes it when you don't mean to. I see it on a lot when I'm driving, or at the gym. Seems like a waste of battery power. Ideally, they'd have a variety of different motions and methods you could choose from to wake it, and even a allow a combination of them to reduce false positives (like a quick jerk then rotate).

It would be great if Samsung would implement some kind of learning algorithm. Shouldn't be that difficult.

In the log they call the movement WRIST_MOVEMENT_UP. I believe it actually tries to simulate the movement of turning the watch to your eyes.
The question is very good.. For me 75% times work other part no
The movement to wake up gear i think is up-turn... But not always ok.... This must improve.. Because not is more ridiculous look your black watch....and than stay trainyng on the display....and sony has already took this... In the pub of her sw2...
If you raise your arm and turn it works every time
it's painful. sometimes it works, sometimes not.
i wish they enabled tap twice to wake though. pressing the button on the side is not always convenient.

[Q] How do you guys feel about Moto Display?

I honestly think it is far too sensitive. I just got my X today and I set it in my passenger seat to drive. The active display turned on about every 4 seconds because of the tiny bumps from driving. With the IR sensors turned on the display is turned on every time I set down my phone. I emailed Moto about making some kind of sensitivity setting. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't worry about it. It barely uses any power when it turns on because amoled. If it was an LCD screen, you bet I would be complaining

I'm not really worried about battery life so much as it just annoys me to see my screen constantly turn on. Well, partly.
I made it like the 2013 version. Shut off the hand motion sensors so now it only responds to movement of the device. MUCH better on battery
Active Display turns on as long as you have notifications, it's not road bumps setting it off.

I think you may be wrong on this, if you wave at the phone or move it a little bit the display will show you the time, even if there is no notifications, i too have this issue, i leave my phone on the dash and since the back of the phone is curved , it will tilt a little , enough to activate the display. No biggie, but just saying it happens .
If it had the option, my setup would be OFF Movement sensor, and ON (ir) gesture sensor . i see myself frequently waving at the screen to check the time, and now i do this thing where i dont use the wake button to unlock the phone while it sits on my desk, i make the display wake with my hand and unlock it..

2nd that, if I could turn off the movement sensor I would also. The gesture sensor works pretty great, the movement sensor is too sensitive.
Yeah, mine blinks on and off all the time regardless of notifications or not. Received an update the other day for the sensors and it didn't change anything.

I totally agree. IR only and no movement would be great. I have IR turned off right now and I wish it didn't annoy me to have both on. I paid for these fancy new IR sensors and I'm not even using them.

I know what you're talking about, the screen does flash if you have a notification. I can obviously tell I don't have one, just take your phone and tap the corner of it or set it on your couch and then sit down, your active display will turn on.

If you are worried about the phone activating the screen too frequently - I think having it upside down will prevent that. The active screen doesn't turn on when in a pocket, and I think that could also be said for being upside down on the car seat next to you.

How to stop the screen lighting up.

Hi all, just got myself a LG GWatch R, and loving it so far...
Just a couple of questions...
1: The screen keeps lighting up when i move my arm?, this is causing extra battery drain and i dont want this to happen, ive already set the screen to always on in ambient mode so wht does it keep turning on to full?
2: It keeps saying google now is not available even though its connected? Annoying.
3: The same cards keep appearing even though i have swiped them away. Why?
hi,
try a reset of lhe lg r
Have you run all updates? Yes a reset may be in order.

1) You can no do that. Just mute notification by swipe down watch status bar, it mute notification and disable the lightin up movement.
2) It need BT connected watch/phone AND valid internet connection on phone.
3) card appear when phone send notification. If card appearing after swipe, it is your phone wich notify again.
1: STUPID, I dont want to turn my buzzer of to stop the screen lighting up.
2: All is connected but the watch does it constantly.
3: Cards dont appear on phone just constantly on the watch?

which particular card is annoying you? i do find the light up mechanism is annoying as if i turn my wrist to do something and the screen just light up.
i wish google or LG is able to come up a new features to stop the auto light up function by movement. on pebble, you can disable such function...why google cannot..
Well I tried emailing them about it. But after sitting there for half an hour entering crap just to send an email I gave up.
I'm on holiday this week. And I keep getting a card saying holiday all day. But this keeps popping up about 20 times a day. Doesn't appear on the phone just the watch.
According to the screenshots in this article covering the upcoming Android Wear 5.0 Lollipop, we will be able to disable the wake gesture!
have a close look at the screenshots of the AW phone app, there is an option "Tilt to wake screen"
the holiday is mark in your google calendar? if you didnt connect the phone with watch..did it happen?
No its coming from the phone. But I don't understand why it appears all the time instead of once
I would also like it too not light up every time I move! I have turned off all gestures and tilt to wake but it still lights up. Just want to tell the time not let everyone know im wearing a smartwatch.

Latest update nuked my watch ???

I have an LG G Watch R.
immediately after this update about 1.5 weeks ago that I installed my watch no longer functions as it functioned before.
I no longer get call notifications on the watch. previously when a call came in the watch would start vibrating the caller image would appear and I could answer or ignore from the watch.
this no longer occurs (HUGE functionality loss for me)
also "always on" no longer works. it always turns off VERY rapidly after a few short seconds and you can only turn it on again by pressing the button. no "ambient" mode any more.
and of course since ambient is off (I assume) twist to full on does not work anymore
touch will not wake it up twist will not wake it up ONLY pressing the button.
suggestions? these are simply massively functionality losses to me I flat out would not have bought it if it functioned this way when I got it. what's the point?
I am hoping this is something I can fix. yes I checked android wear no joy. I uncheck and recheck always on and the watch comes on for a second and then goes off again. still have to press the button to make it live again.
Cinema mode activated?
Sent from my SGP611 using XDA Free mobile app
What is that? I do not see anything called cinema mode anywhere?
On active screen swipe down from the top and then wipe left. You will see Cinema mode and Sunlight boost.

Disable Galaxy Watch 3 Screensaver

I recently purchased a new Galaxy Watch 3, coming from my trusty Gear S3. One thing that is annoying me to no end is this "Screensaver" feature when the watch goes to sleep while an app is open. Pretty hard to describe so here is a video with a side by side comparison between the Watch 3 and my Gear S3.
photos.app.goo.gl/YiaqCt8L5rL2mncE7
Both watches have the exact same watch face. Notice that when the Watch 3 goes to sleep while on anything but the Watch face, it switches to this stupid Digital screensaver. The net effect of this is that 90% of the time when the screen is in "always on" mode it uses this stupid screensaver instead of my chosen watchface.
I should not that I am using a custom WatchMaker watch face.
Is there anyway to disable this "feature" so that it behaves like the S3?
I noticed the same! I expect it is because of the too small battery. Its not always on exactly, its always on to a Screensaver.
Would be nice to be able to change it...
Same here. I'd like to kill this "feature", i.e. when timed out revert to the "Always on" watchface, not the default screensaver.
Mine does this too, but falls back to the Watch Face AOD after about 20 secs. I think it was actually designed this way to allow you to go back to the screen you were on before the screen saver was triggered, by pressing the top button.

Mine doesn't fall back to AOD watch face at all. It can stay all day on the "screensaver watchface". That's what I'd like to switch off.
Reducing the time, but still not a fix

I'd love to get rid of this screensaver watch face as well, however, as others have mentioned, for me it also goes away fairly quickly. In your Galaxy Wearable app, if you go into "Display", what setting do you have under "Show last app". Mine is currently set to "When screen turns on again within 20 seconds". Unfortunately, there is no "off" for this, and 20 seconds is the minimum. If you have this set higher (e.g. to 1hr) I wonder if you'd see what you are seeing.
Regardless, if anyone figures out how to disable this, I'd love to know as well!
Same issue here. It is annoying. Following.
Same problem coming from the Galaxy Watch to the Watch3. Following hoping for a solution.
