Lolipop update for touchwiz - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do you guys think they will finally smooth out and actually put a little better production into their main functioning apps?
I am so ready to switch to a stock rom for this thing due to touch-wiz being so horrible in some areas.

In what areas do you find TouchWiz horrible on the Note 4? I have zero problems with it.

Just like my S5, but what's wierd was I added soft keys on my s5 by qemu.mainkeys=0 on the build prop for on screen button and for some reason the on screen buttons were instant/fast but the hard keys took 1 second to load....
For some reason I can't add oncreen buttons on the stock or custom roms like I can with EVERY android phone I ever owned

The dialer is gross, the stick I'm ap o for Samsung is buggy and choppy, thankfully I found textra, this app is weird with scrolling, it takes sometimes 10 seconds for a phone call to connect, the multi window does take a long time to load at times can get annoying when I'm trying to do someth u ng in a hurry. The notification bar when you are using a 3rd party keyboard it stays there also indo b t like how the quick settings constantly show at the top of the notification bar takes up space and I'm always activating or deactivating by mistake.

Lololol oh no!! A whole second.. lol i found if a person freezes or deletes svoice recents seem to open faster, that being said Some people just dont get touchwiz, i dont find it super stunning to look at but its the features, the camera, noone else can touch it on features. I never understood why people who hate twiz buy a samsung. I enjoy knowing i have the option of aosp(since lollipop has been booting for a few days already), but dont.buy samsun g if you hate their skin you know? I bought this over the N6 because of hardware. N6 is also a little bigger. This phone is perfect for me, however Samsung upped the Ram to 3gb yet I feel like I have less ram to work with. TW is incredibly slugish after using 5.0 on my N5. I honestly feel like the N5 out performs this Note 4 thru daily activities.
I wanted note 4 hardware with pure aosp. TW is bloated with a ton of useless garbage.

Samsung Galaxy S true picture

Hi guys,
I have an HTC Desire, i like it and i love it, but i think it lacks on many features as compared to Galaxy S. So here i am guys i want to buy a Galaxy S for my brother, who actually wants a blackberry, i have convinced him that its way better.
So anyone who is using it can tell me how is it as far for contacts and messaging, and other features??
Thanks
to be honest.. Its pretty sh*t.. sorry but 3 days I had it.. Desire is sooo much better!
Galaxy S- buggy OS
laggy
bad battery (very!!)
screen too big to operate with one hand
etc etc thats my experiance with SGS..
I have to disagree with the above poster, I have had the Vibrant (t-mo galaxy s), for a little over a month now, works great. Sure the stock load sucks, but most do ..
Would not be posting on XDA if you did not know about custom roms.
Battery life, depends on what you leave running, I get at least a full day if I don't leave a Shload of things running, mine is rooted and use setcpu to throttle back when not needed ...
GPS issues, some have them some don't, mine, locks in about 30 seconds, and is down to under 10m accuracy.
Voice quality is great, much cleaner than the HD2 I had.
Compared to the Desire which is a good phone, the Screen makes the Galaxy S , a winner, not to mention the touch is super accurate.
Coming from the HD2 I could not say the screen is too big to use one handed ..
It is a very fast phone, it runs smooth with a lot of apps loaded, (on non stock firmware), and although FroYo is not out for it yet, should be coming soon.
Considering I can stand out in almost direct sunlight, and use the phone without squinting at the screen that is a big bonus.
The only thing I could say about the Vibrant variant, is it does feel almost cheap, since the battery cover is plastic, the phone is tough, but just feels too light to be that tough.
As far as contacts and messaging go, it works well, not sure I am thrilled with the TouchWiz, interface that is on top of them, but it works.
thanks for the response, i wont mind more of it.
Thanks

Apparently you didn't have enough time with iT.
Buggy os? You kept it stock huh? Mines running a leaked 2.2 and its fast as sh*t
Laggy? Really? Did you really say that? You kept it stock for sure.
Screen to big? How small are your hands? Oompa lumpa sized? Mine are tiny and I can write just fine with one.
Bad battery? Hell no. This easily lasts me 2 days on one charge before it dies. You just have to train it.
Apparently you didn't spend enough time with it. Mines a beast!

Can't agree more.
so wait, let me get this straight. What y'all android lovers are saying is that you traded one buggy, laggy OS that requires an unlock and custom ROM to fix, for another???
I tried to help a coworker with his and it is very laggy and had several force closes over about an hour of me playing with it. Several times I had to wait 10-15 seconds for the screen to become responsive again.

I never had one FC on stock ROM, Your "Buddy" must of fu**** with something.

One thing that makes me smile

I love how HTC used to get so much **** for having a laggy UI with Sense. I was one of those who kind of hated on Sense and really dissed it. Now I have noticed TouchWiz has become the Sense of old. Bulky, laggy, and way too big for its own good. Kind of funny how the two companies have done a reversal. I used to purchase Samsung devices just to avoid the lag of Sense and other UIs. Every video review I have watched, the reviewer has complained of lag on the S4. For once I will actually stay with an HTC device until my next contract renewal. I feel it was done right. One thing that isnt fair though is that nobody seems to be giving Samsung the hard time HTC got about their overbloated UI overlay. What gives?
Oh, and the classic "The reviewer or people posting negative reviews and comments about the GS4 are paid by HTC" wtf, really? If someone doesnt like Samsung products they are assumed to be crazy and must be getting "paid off" to post negative comments? That's really unfair and childish of them to say. Anyone else noticing unfair biases?

I noticed that as well. Sense 5 is smooth, man. I haven't had any lag, outside of me messing with governors and such, and I've read several reviews that say Touchwiz is kindof laggy. People aren't going to give Sammy any **** though because they are the top dog. While I'm glad they are android (for now) they are in the position that Apple was not long ago...nothing they can do is wrong even if it is. It's a little annoying
I actually really like sense 5

My phone is bone stock, and will more than likely stay that way.
the only thing that seems odd to me in Sense 5 has been the lock screen..It kind of looks like its not meant for the current state it is in..It looks like it's set up and preparing for Android 4.2.1-2..Looks like they are preparing for lock screen widgets and I cant wait!

agreed, the only thing i want in sense is quick toggles! i used them all the time on my GS2. Luckily the mod is already out for this. That and the MMS compression fix. Other than that its pretty impressive out of the box.
But yea when will we start seeing AOSP stuff? I know the phone is only out for a wk or two but I'm looking forward to seeing the development section start to fill up.

I believe there are people working behind the scenes on some AOSP stuff. One problem would be the new SoC Snapdragon 600. I don't think there is a reference device running android on this platform yet.
I'm really diggin sense 5 in general. Blinkfeed is awesome.. I always had a currents widget on my furthest left screen anyways.
One thing I dislike. Is that the app drawer still scrolls gingerbread style. I'd like it to be paginated.
And as for quick toggles like i've seen in a few posts. We don't want quick toggles! we just want the 4.2 update. Then it should be pull down on left 3/4 for notifications. Or the right 1/4 for the toggles that are just built into android now. The quick toggles of the past are pretty ugly in comparison.

I guess by paginated you mean horizontal scroll instead of vertical. I too find this odd as Sense 4.0, 4.1, and 4+ all had horizontal app drawers.
I also like this, but what I have done is make folders and put the apps in there so I only have one page.

The folders in the app drawer has been something I really like that I wouldn't have thought I would. Now I am down to 3 homepages instead of 5 or 7. Would be nice if they could hold more apps per folder but it still makes my app drawer so nicely organized.

My S3 mini (and all other android devices) start working slow after some time

Hello, dear great community.
I have a question, i know there were many topics about this issue, but i don't know, usual methods like clearing cache doesn't work.
I have an S3 mini, on which i use Maclaw Kitkat, which is pretty good except for some minor bugs. Just like any other android devices i've had, after some time it starts working really slow, like, when someone is calling me, it takes 6-7 seconds to only turn the screen on, and this is absolutely frustrating. As much as i love android, at performance, it's garbage.
I don't know what to do, as i said, clearing cache doesn't do much, i don't have 12312312 apps installed, my homescreen is empty, for the same puirpose i want to fix this issue, i want a fast phone.
Maybe it's something i've missed after reading some topics? I don't know.
Sorry if i broke any rule, but didn't know what to do, i love my S3 mini, and i love android, but this lag makes me hate both of them.

Stock de-bloated (updated ANB1) firmware (still) beats any custom rom (for I8190/N) in battery life and fluidity (bug free). Furthermore the I8190 might officially get KitKat.

Just got my S5

Just sold my note 3 to get an S5 and I am already regretting my decision. For anyone on the fence, the S5 offers a more polished and mature OS with big upgrades on the screen and camera but nothing else. Build quality is surprisingly good but the charging port cover is annoying and the location of the speaker at the back coupled with the waterproof feature makes everything muffled. I was pretty surprised as well that the whole back cover would vibrate whenever you use the external speakers. This makes holding the phone tiring if you're playing music and using it at the same time.
It's always one step behind the note 3 when it comes to responsiveness and the whole system just slows down becoming almost unusable when you try to download a lot of background apps and use it at the same time. This delay is prevalent with opening and closing apps, keyboard activation, scrolling down a big page. I had everything setup like my note 3 with the home button double click and my magazine disabled plus no transition animations.
Can anyone explain to me why I can edit stuff on my external storage with my old note 3 on 4.4.2 (using quickpic) and can't do it on the s5? I understand it's a feature of kitkat but I had no problems whatsoever with my old nexus 5 and N3. This is a pretty big dealbreaker as I absolutely detest google/samsung stock gallery.
Oh and samsung just decided to axe application shortcuts on the lockscreen one of the best features on touchwiz unfortunately

I was checking the review of the s5 over at anandtech and it seems the internal read write speed is indeed slower than most phones. Compared to the note which can read and write 20 percent faster. Maybe that's why it was stuttering like crazy when I had a lot of apps being downloaded and syncing
What are you trying to say with this 'power button flap is annoying'

I am also working for mine to be inside my pocket
love my s5 with CM11
How is the latest build? Is it stable enough for everyday use? Battery life and force closes?

SPen and AOSP

So I was perusing ye olde rom page and saw the latest cm. I used to love CM. But I don't want to lose my pen features. I know some alternatives exist, and I'm ok with using them I think, but I want the full feature set too.
I found a launcher alternative similar to notebuddy http://www.emandt.net/Android/SPenCommand/Website/
not sure if I will get it but it looks fully featured like the regular TW one is.
Which brings me to my question, is there an app out there that will let me screenshot the screen and pull text from whatever I select like the TW feature set allows? That seems to be the only thing I can't find. Screen writing, note taking, the rest seems all easily findable, That however is lacking and I use quite often.
Anybody have any information?
So I'm guessing with the no replies that spen on AOSP is dead in the water? Or is the note 4 forums just deserted? Very strange nobody has answered this.
Notebuddy
2 years is a long time in the mobile world and most note 4 users have already moved on.
When I was on CM, I would use Notebuddy and it's s-pen addon.

Yes and no. Normally I would agree 4 years is a long time. But look at what has come out in that time. Samsung has dropped and picked back up many features that people still want that the note 4 still features. Hardware wise it isn't even far behind, if proper roms are built for it.
Idk, maybe it's just me. I just hate to see this phone die when the n5 is garbage lacking sd card and IR, with removable battery. Everything more or less seems like a downgrade or minor upgrade. N4 is an amazing device and I see no reason it should drop support just yet.

I used emandt's setup and it was alright. There are some playstore spen apps that add feature, not sure if the select crop is one of them though. Most spen addons from playstore require payment for the useful options to work.

I've used spen command on AICP and CM , it's alright kinda laggy IMO and wasn't really worth the hastle, tried to reinstall it recently and it says my account was authorized on too many phones or some BS, I've only used it on the note 4 so not sure what the issue is.

Possibly changing roms or something picking up different phones. Email the dev to fix the issue
