Hi! I was wondering about the general build quality and the durability of this phone!
I have had several HTC phones thru the years, S710, Touch cruise, G1 and hero.
With all of them i was very satisfied with build quality and what falls and dents they could take without being damaged. BUT THEN i got the samsung galaxy s, and build quality sucked, now it have broken on its own twice and i broke the screen twice. So i am now tired sick from samsung and their crappy build quality.
My question therefore is: Is this thing built more solid then the SGS? Is the regular TFT LCD better for my (ab)use?

excuse me sir, but the type of the display has absolutely nothing to do with how strong (durable) the phone is. only the glass that PROTECTS the display matters. samsung galaxy s and lg optimus both have gorrila glass (good stuff for resistance against scraches) i think htc hero also has it.
not sure how you managed to destroy it so well though
but on the general lg optimus 2x build quality is MUCH MUCH better than galaxy s, much more solid phone, samsung feels crap.
Great! Wellmy problem has been that the screen inside the glass broke, both times the glass was intact. On other devices like a itouch 1g the glass broke but not the screen on the inside and it was still useable.
Well, firstly the screen died altogether while i was holding the phone trying to surf the web. No problem samsung took the phone in and replaced the screen. Next abouth one month later my touch buttons died, a little more of a hassle getting samsung to take the phone back this time. A couple of phonecalls and contact with samsung themselfes and they took it in for repair, kept it for 3 weeks and it got back fine.
Then i dropped the phone between one and two feet onto concrete floor, yes i admit this is my fault, but i feel this is something the phone should have managed. Especially since i had a gel cover thingy around it. This time i changed the screen myself, no problem. Then i got on my bike home from work about one month ago, put my phone in my pocket, and altso my keys. Got home and the inner AMOLED was broken again.
Might be that im not carefull enough with the device, but i feel its just a bit too fragile :/
But thanks for the answer and i will probably buy one of these, they go real cheap around here now
Only around 500USD wich i think is pretty darn good for this device.

The metallic band that surrounds the phone scratched far to easy. I have a few marks in there and I keep it well protected. I hate to see what happens if this was dropped onto concrete.
I think it's pretty well built. Feels solid, doesn't creak, weighty but not too heavy etc

I thought it was plastic. Why do you think it's metal?
Build quality seems good though, no noise and everything seems tight and in place. Only thing concerning me is the battery cover. What happens to the clips when removing it 100 times? I'm afraid it might get a bit loose.
I haven't dropped it yet, so not sure how it handles such things. Corners on the glass seems ok protected..

I didn't say it was metal, I said it was metallic (ie looks like metal)
Either way it's very weak and marks easily leaving black marks in it. Really unhappy with my phone and hope to get rid ASAP.

Well, painted plastic does scratch easily in general. Not easy to avoid..
I don't really care though..
They should build the whole thing with Gorilla glass, it wouls be smudgetastic but indestructible and unscratchable.

Build quality is good, but this metalic plastic is really bad.

Same here. Looks as nice as the day it was unboxed. I am usually careful when attaching the USB cable, though.
I ended up buying the phone
So far i am very satisfyed, very good build quality. Fast and snappy with CM7 #49.

I mean, build quality issues everywhere, and not just with the One. I get it that first batch phones are prone to act up, but somehow HTC always have phones like these and not just in first batches. Why is it like this? Don't they have any sort of quality control at all?
Don't get me wrong, I am a happy HTC One owner with a seemingly faultless phone (just a 1mm gap that I didn't even notice, but my younger brother), but this is scaring me, a lot.
With phones costing as much as they do, and only getting more expensive, you'd expect them to be of a certain quality and not just a five-second put together.

In all fairness, HTC aren't alone when it comes to bad batches. Literally every phone has had its problems, as soon as a phone hits the masses there's always going to be problems. And in all honesty the one has stood up pretty well. Besides the phone getting hot I can't say that I've has any issues myself.

But it seems that HTC have the highest amount of faulty and fault-prone phones. I mean, gaps and things not being fitted correctly. I get that for the first few batches, but now? An acquaintance of mine is on his 5th (fifth) One and the store he bought the original one from (a carrier store but the phone itself is unbranded) has now contacted HTC and he has been promised a Dev edition of the phone and that it will be thoroughly checked before being handed to him.
It shouldn't have to be like that and it's not exactly helping them up from the ground.

I have seen a lot of them coming through where i work, maybe i've been quite lucky with past phones, but yea you do have a point with HTC, I think that's why they beefed up their repair service, i've got a number for them which I sometimes give to clients and the quickest turnaround was one day (normally 3 - 5 days, as opposed to two or more weeks) which is pretty phenomenal when you consider that the likes of samsung and blackberry take two weeks to get you your phone back and you seldom have any input on what happens to your phone, kind of like your friend getting promised a dev edition.
My desire HD had a GPS problem, and this is actually my third One, the first one had a back button problem, the second i found that it got quite hot and the third was just as hot when stressed, seems that it's just the way this phone is.
Saying all that though, I apparently got quite lucky with my samsung, only had the one and it was perfect for the ten months i had it for, but again people coming in to my work place with SDS, overheating, call related problems like drops and silence, 3G drop outs, broken wifi, screen anomalies, the works, and blackberries, omfg, that company has got build quality issues, the middles optic button breaking and the software, my word i don't know where to begin, freelancing the bbm software is probably the best move RIM have done in years.
Overall i think that some people are simply unlucky with their phones, I think that HTC's aren't too bad in comparison to other handsets but they are definitely one of the companies that have issues.

The One does get hot, there's no way you can get around that and it's the metal that's to blame. I think it goes without saying that metal conducts heat and cold a lot better than plastic. Though the S4 has occasional overheating as well.

Oh crikey yea, the S4 can bake, I had a hard choice between the two, I had the One first, got some white solo beats, two screen protectors and a double dip flip case for free.
I spent about a week with it and was about to exchange it for the S4 and return all my bits, but it really grew on me, not to mention the build quality is probably the best i have ever seen on a phone (bar a few bad eggs of course) coupled with the fact that they're both generally the same hardware bar the overclock on the S4 i decided to opt for the One and since then i'm constantly reaffirmed that i did the right thing, I'd missed sense since the EVO 3D and i'm glad i stuck it out, the S4 for me was a bit floaty, if you know what i mean, everything is really bright and in your face, I knew i would have just put apex and a theme on there and had done with touchwiz, I can still do that on the One but i actually like sense this time round.
Plus there are a lot of experimental features like the air gestures which i knew were just extra factors for possible failings, many of which have already been reported (phone calls in pockets, volume going up and down on it's own, screen clicking things without you doing anything, etc)
I've heard about a few things you can do about the heat on the One, apparently theres a cooling feature in some of the kernels but i'm not holding much hope for it's actual real life performance, i guess time will tell.

The S4 can take a hike. I could have accepted that it's plastic, but it has a lot of things I don't like:
Glossy/slippery polycarbonate
Physical home button
Ugly design
Samsung
I have been a samsung fan since the S2, but have to say, the build quality of the ONE, even with the so called gaps, is a lot better than the S3 and S4.
The galaxy s2 was amazing for build quality, no squeeking back cover, and withstood drops onto concrete without breaking. The S3 and S4 and squeeking, badly built, dainty devices that break with only minor 1 foot drops.
I've dropped my HTC One, twice, from over a meter, onto stone tiles, with only scuffs to the corners of the housing. Two friends have broken their SGS3's, one twice, with only 1 foot drops onto the floor.
As for overheating, my One gets what could only be described as warm, not hot. Sgs4 overheats like mad.
I think HTC are getting a rough deal, because they aren't Samsung or Apple. As soon as you tell someone your phone is HTC, they instantly lose interest and wonder off lol.

Agreed. OP, head on over to the Apple forums, search for iPhone 5 threads from October last year and you'll see that there were tons of issues with the iPhone 5 on launch from the cosmetic (the electroplating on the chamfered edges was poor and you get screen sensitivity issues when you use the phone while it's plugged in).
I think we're just more sensitive with HTC issues because they've had a really rough time of it the past 24 months -- whether it's in the financial press or among tech sites and everything gets blown out of proportion.

I know about the issues the iPhone 5 had. Anyways, I think everyone are praising Samsung because Samsung has a lot of money and easily enough money to pay off reviewers. I mean, why else would anyone with a fully functioning brain even remotely like something made out of glossy polycarbonate and have an ugly design at that?
It's to me something extremely hard to understand, but maybe it's because I think logically, who knows.

What rubbish. The S3 or 4 for that matter might feel less strong, but if anything they are stronger and the fit and finish is better. My One (im on my third after rejecting the other 2 for faults) is lumpy on the sides, it has variable gaps all around and seems easily damaged. Its already more marked than my S3 was at the end of its life despite being in a case.
I eventually cracked the back of my S3, I replaced it with a new original part for £8 and sold it on for £300 after a year. I have already seen marked HTC Ones sell for less.
Its a beautiful phone but flawed like no other.

No it because your tastes differ and youre to self important to accept anyone elses opinion. I actually prefer the front of the S4, but the back of the One.

I would accept that the phone is made out of polycarbonate or other types of plastic, but why the hell did they go with the glossy/slippery finish?
The S3 and S4 both feel budget, there's no denying that and one doesn't want to put a case on his or her One solely because it feels so great but I will have to put a case on it because it's more prone to serious injuries than any other phone I've ever had. Plastic seems to withstand damage the most. I think I've dropped my S3 in a lot of various ways. Screen down, screen up, each of the sides and then I remember I dropped it and it literally bounced off on a solid concrete floor and how does it look today? Almost mint. It's got minor scratches on a the back only visible if you look like really close. It's got some color loss in one of the upper corners and that's about it, the screen has no scratches whatsoever.
That's what I liked with the S3. I don't dare drop the One.

Then maybe you needed to word your comment better rather than sound so self righteous. There is no right and wrong in design.
Its cultural, design is very much a cultural thing. Take cars for example, Americans like their cars massive, bloated, over the top, loud, garish. The Chinese like them bland, slab sided with tiny wheels, ill proportioned to my eyes.
Some like the glossy finish, it doesnt take Samsung to pay them off. after all the designers and whoever signed off the design must like it, and it has sold 10 million in a month..

I don't know why you're flaming the other poster: he's only expressing his opinion. Also, what you meant to write was "you're too self-important..."
Seriously, though -- the main critique against the GS4 is that it's ugly -- the reviewers are just afraid of not getting any inside information on upcoming Samsung releases which is why they're circumventing the fact that the S4 is a poorly-designed device.

In the first place, those sales figures are meaningless absent context: you have to ask things like: did Samsung subsidize the sales? Was there a discount incentive to order in bulk? How many units were available to ship? Also, you have to take into account the fact that there were production issues with the HTC One.
Besides, HTC have come and said that they've sold 5 of the One. That isn't too bad considering that Samsung can outspend everyone outside of Apple to market their devices -- and that includes giving retailers sales incentives and their more aggressive advertising.
All I can say is this.
I had an s2 for about 2yrs and the main problems I had with it was, the charger port going out. Overheating, it would get almost burning hot in my pocket, and with the jelly bean update the battery die way to fast. Would lose 3-5% just by unplugging.
The s3 didn't add much I wanted so I didn't get one
My friend did and had the s2 before. Said it wasn't much of a change and that the s3 was cheap. He broke the battery back, chip the sides and then finally broke the screen.
Had the phone not about 6months. He said his old s2 was build better and last longer then that and he went back to it once the s3 was done.
To me the HTC one feels nice and I don't have a problem with anything. No overheating, crazy battery, I haven't drop it but I'm willing to beat it won't fall apart like a s3 or s4.
But to each his own. There is people who look iPhones but imo they are cheap parts of crap. Have replaced way to many screens for people that drop them from small Heights.

So anyone who likes the S4 is not thinking logically? There is no logic to taste anyway..
I have said this before in previous threads but the S4 is a quality device. Its made of good quality plastic, and crucially, its made well. The HTC is also made of good quality materials, but its made badly. Whether you like how the material are used is not a build quality issue, its an issue of taste.
I'll try to word my sentences better next time. Sometimes, they sound better in my head and in my native language then come out sounding completely wrong in English. ^^
I don't own one yet, but I have had an eye on it waiting for it to drop some price, but just as I was about to buy one, I suddenly check the comments on gsmarena, and bang, Z3c cracking all over the net! I have saved money for a long time to buy a phone that will satisfy me for years, but if I have to treat it like a thin glass which may suddenly break without any known reason, it will be years of frustration and stress, not satisfaction.
I have a Galaxy Wonder which I totally HATE, terrible performance, literally driving me crazy, but at least i don't have to worry about it suddenly breaking. I mean I understand mobiles should be treated with care, but at the same time manufacturers tend to build their phone in a way that makes it hard to accidentally break.
I am not sure I am going to buy this, but I thought I post here hoping for smth to change my mind because I totally love this phone and want it so bad!

I think you have to keep in mind here that those peoples devices that do crack will most likely post about it. Those whose screens have not cracked are not going to be posting, "yup, my screen hasn't cracked yet". In this sense there will be lots of negative comments about the screen because those that have experienced it will post about it.
Personally, I have dropped my phone naked on my marble floor and the most that has happened is the paint on the rounding has chipped a tiny bit. My glass is perfectly fine at the moment, I have no complaints.
I do now keep a case on it, but I am very tempted to make my own case (there isnt one out there that I like) that just covers the corners and has a skin on the back.
The phone is excellent! My only gripe is lack of root, but that will lessen when Android 5.0 (lollipop) comes out because it will sort out the ext-sd card limitations I am currently facing.

I've dropped mine at least a half dozen times; it's in an inexpensive CruzerLite case. As near as I can tell, the phone seems indestructible. No cracks, no scratches.

sorry to disappoint but, what cracks? still pretty solid on me

- waterproof --> yes, I've tried it several times
- flaps open randomly --> nope, they are super solid and sealed
- screen cracks --> nope, and I carry it always in my pockets, sometimes I've even sat on it (silly me)
Only vulnerability that I see is that the back is quite slippery, but you can always get a cover for that.
Haha laughed a lot reading these comments, specially those who apologized for disappointing me by not cracking their phone . Apart from user feedback, there isn't much from official websites like gsmarena or Sony itself on this.
Well, I would not advise you to let it fall to try ^^ and I don't believe in self cracking phones, I'll believe it if it happens with my own one, which I'm am super careful with

I had once a similar affair with a computer which had a design failure with the hinges, the screw threads were molded in the screen cover, with the torque required to open the lid, it was a sure recipe for a disaster, but at least it was something easy to repair yourself, compared to this phone. Yeah, I have no idea what could cause this phone to break, it doesn't get hot, it has top notch glass and the screen isn't a mechanical piece under heavy load ... Could something be reactive and releasing gases in the IP68 sealed phone ? No idea
Girlfriend and I both own this phone, and have dropped it many many times. Both still in perfect condition.
No problems here, love this phone.
I'll pick option 3, do a search and you'll see this is not a real problem.
I dropped mine once onto Spanish tile and it didn't break. Second time I wasn't so lucky. But it was also my fault - it fell onto a rock with a jagged point. I would have been blown away if it survived it. Even with my experience, I'd vouch for the phone's durability - so much so that I bought ANOTHER one happily
I've had mine for a couple of months now. I put a skinomi skin on the back soon after I got it, so I can't be positive that it hasn't cracked. However, I don't think it has. A couple of not-to-bad falls, and the front screen is still intact. The pressure test is also still good, so I don't think the back is compromised.
No cracks here. And the phone is a beauty and the beast in one package

One week and counting. Sat on it a couple of times. Nothing is cracked yet.
Every glass-backed phone has always been accompanied by reports of spontaneous cracking. Nothing new there. I've dropped my phone a few times (albeit with a case on) and it's unscathed. I also dropped my Nexus 4 many, many times without breaking it, and the N4 was also plagued with screen cracking complaints when it was released.
If I refused to buy something because of negative comments on forums then my life would be devoid of any gadgets (and I'd be much richer!)
Add a third option to the poll:
"I wear a case and i don't worry about it."
That's what the most owners should vote!
I have been comparing both devices side to side pretty much all day and again I proved to my self that as of now there is not a phone worth replacing my beloved G Flex.. Unfortunately this little experiment will cost me $50 restocking fee but oh well.
Here is what I got so far:
Screen - Flex is a clear winner here not only by size but the V10 doesnt even come close to the how vibrant and beautiful the Flex screen is. I compared both phones running Leo's Fortune game and the furry ball was positioned on the exact same spot and also a good quality movie which I synced. The difference is just enormous with the Flex providing deeper crisp colors and true black while the V10 looks washed out and almost like some smoke filter was applied. I asked several people at work and they picked the Flex right away and were shocked thats an older phone. Also due to its size the Flex displays larger gaming image in the above game and some things arent even visable on the V10.
Performance - The V10 is snappy no doubt but so is the Flex not far behind. When playing the above game though the V10 is choppy while the Flex is smooth as butter. I prefer the Flex.
Phone size and weight - the V10 is literally as big as the Flex but with a smaller screen and it feels heavier. Of course its better looking than the Flex somewhat but thats not enough for me to keep it.
Second screen - cool concept and I can see it being useful but when you play a game or watch a movie you get an annoying gray stripe one the side of the screen and its not the same size so OCD guys like me will go crazy looking at that thing. I wish they made it turn off completely when in landscape but no it stays on and since the blacks are really gray its pretty visable.
Battery - I wont even bother lol
Some other things I dont like - No settings for Color temperature or Screen mode. That sucks because the colors are very cold.
I dont see LED notification and thats a huge letdown.
I also wish that second screen had some more functions when the main screen is off rather than just show me the time and four icons I cant change.
Also the screen reflects badly coming from the curved Flex with which reflections are reduced to minimum.
The V10 is hard to grab from the table and I can't put it on its face like im used to with the Flex.
What I like - Removable battery, SD Card, Looks and Camera
I know I should have known most of that but I thought I give it a try. So far its a no go.
I am keeping it for 14 days to get my $50 worth and I will be comparing both phones in different scenarios so I you want to know something in particular just let me know and I will compare side by side for you.
It looks like some of will be rocking the Flex longer than we thought.
Well, the 4.4.2 update for the Flex caused me to search for a new device. Like you I chose the V10, primarily because of the durability claims. I mountain bike and it will be nice if I don't always have to stress over my phone when I take a fall. Unlike you, I have found that the second screen acts as a notification area when I play games. I will get texts streaming across it, as well as email and other notifications. Having been using them both, I can't really argue most of what you stated.
However, On the plus side which you haven't mentioned;
Root took me all of about 15 minutes on the V10. Unlocking the bootloader is as easy as booting to bootloader and following the on screen instructions. It took me longer to install adb and fastboot on my laptop.
Once you spend the time to configure the second screen, it is quite useful. I have an assortment of information up there, main screen on or off.

Or wireless charging. Yeah, it may cost a little extra, but once you are used to it, you feel deprived without it. And considering the V10 can be had for considerably less than any other halo device, even with the extra cost, you are getting away cheaper than anything else.

I mountain bike too in fact I'm going right now with my Flex and my fat bike (dont judge lol).
I did not mention the fingerprint scanner as I had the phone for one day when I posted that. The thing is I dont see my self using it over the amazing knock to wake future we have. It means I have to pick up my phone and and unlock it every time so that future is useless to me.
The 32 bit DAC of the V10 is amazing I must admit but it does not work with any of my Bluetooth headphones or speakers and those are what I use now days unfortunately.
Also I noticed the second screen bleed last night... Not awful but still.
One of the weakest points of the Flex for me was the camera. I have seen people say here they really like it but I have not been able to see anything good about it. The V10 takes crazy good pictures tho.
Can you tell me how you customized the second screen and how you got the wireless charging? Any good ROM's yet?

Well there are a couple of things here,
1) the screen Flex has is a bit underwhelming for viewing pictures. I have noticed the same pictures look much better when you transfer them to a PC or other higher resolution screen,
2) for night images, I have used the HDR mode of the stock camera and it has not let me down most of the times. If I compare pictures to say an iPhone 5s (brother has it) , they hold out pretty well and in fact are better most times
Or maybe I'm too much in love with the Flex to notice..as they say love is blind
@bgsitizen The second screen can be configured from the settings menu. Not the greatest yet, but something better than stock. And for wireless charging, well, that's extra. Need to buy a back and charger but at least that's all to it. Watch the dev threads for ROMs. I know there is one in beta right now.
well a v10 will replace my flex, probably picking up tonite. the pluses, removable battery and removable card. we have ruined 2 screens on the flex they wouldnt allow us to renew insurance on it. here is where the removable sd card shines, we had the charging port get damaged on the flex there was no way to get photos off it. Fortunately the charging board is removable it costs 9 dollars and was really easy to replace no weird t-something screws just 0 phillips. This was a big gamble since it didnt even power on, but once the board was on it worked, I pulled all photos off it. So I thought I'd replace the screen you can get screen w frame for around 100, all you have to do is put your battery, charging board and motherboard on it....fine everything was perfect for a few days then the display went wonky, it is unviewable. I have seen where the v10 was dropped under normal conditions and it survived very well, both times when the flex broke it was simply falling out of pocket.

Got a Note 9 last week and day after receiving it i noticed when holding the note 9 and pressing on screen in certain areas (near sides/corners/centre) it would make a popping noise, sounds like adhesive behind the screen not adhering properly or something like that. I got Samsung to replace with a brand new one and same thing with this one, it happens whether phone is on or off, it's definitely not rite as you can hear it very clearly, feels like some flex going on in screen when it happens as i can feel the screen kind of dip slightly when it makes the noise, but ok when it does not make the noise.
Curious to see if anyone else have had the same issue? gutted as loved it for the short while i had it but sending second one back now for refund as worried something will happen with screen further down the road and Samsung may not cover it. I know of at least 3 others who had this issue when buying same time as me.

have no problem with that.
only have that popping sound when using tempered glass before. changed to plastic screen protector and no sound anymore

Hey thanks for sharing that. This is the first link I got searching for this, I have it happen to mine note 9 too. It's such a bummer since I had it for only three days and will have to setup a new one from scratch if they have to replace it.
are you sure the s-pen isnt vibrating when you tap it on that side? remove the s-pen and tap it. i bet it goes away
Wow. No issues like that. I've had three Note 9s and all three have been perfect. I'd definitely return for a replacement. Weak or loose glue could seriously affect the water resistance, since it depends on a water tight seal between the screen and the frame. I'd never recommend using your phone in water anyway, but I at least like the assurance that if my phone takes an accidental dip. There's a good chance it will survive.

Yep real shame, my replacement was the same to, it's on way back, getting a refund, not worth risking something going wrong with the screen later down the road, i mean manufacturers do anything to not accept responsibility specially when it comes to screens. First one started on second day, it was great for the first day, replacement was doing it from the moment i took it out of packaging and holding it, it was worse than the first one.

After studying the noise a bit more, it is definitely an issue with the glue. It will not happen all the time I press the screen, but it happens more often when the phone is a bit warm to the touch (e.g. charging the battery). Also, it appears to be along the side where the battery resides - I wouldn't worry about the battery itself, it just makes sense that the glue will get loose where it heats up more often (in my case, I don't stress the phone all that often for the other side where the SoC is to play a role). Anyways I'll be returning it tomorrow once the shops here in Berlin open 'cause now it's christmas break.
One extra thing that might be interesting, the back-side also has some sort of a glass-separation issue, at least it looks like that. Notice the circular smudge around and right of the DUOS label - I tried cleaning it but it comes back, I think the glass is separated at that point too, but just a tiny bit. I've had the phone for four days and haven't dropped/hit/scratched it AFAIK.

i agree with you, seems to be adhesive/glue issue, it did not happen all the time for me either but as you mention it, i noticed it more after recharging (when phone gets warm) so think you nailed the issue on the head to be honest.
I noticed it around the sides (edges) and the centre of screen, second one was even worse much more noticeable and was happening straight away after taking it out of box.
Something i noticed but never mentioned as wasn't sure but second one was the same, maybe it's normal but don't think it is, on the curved corners of the screen it appeared to me the screen looked slightly lifted not flush with the frame but only on corners.
I live in the UK btw. I was thinking a bad batch but seeing Samsung had a good deal on with cashback and discount i imagine they sold allot between the time i arranged to send mine back to getting the replacement which was a week so i imagine they would have been separate batches although i could be wrong.

I bought it directly from the Samsung online uk store. There was a discount direct from Samsung for students/people who work in certain industries so it could be bought for £699 (£200 off), but also they were offering £150 cashback bringing total down to £549, plus cashback by going via a cashback website meant i would have had it for around £504, also they were doing trade in so people could get even more off up to another £150.00 bring cost down to £399, then people got the samsung game deal thingy, don't play games myself but people can get a Fornite theme by downloading Fornite playing 3 games then you get the free theme, kids going bonkers for the theme, people selling the theme upto £100. So people could have the phone at a bargain price.
So I got a replacement, and just as you said, the display had the same popping sound out of the box. It happens like once a day, but since there is really no substitute for this device right now (stylus + good DAC, besides all the other great features), I'll keep using it and if it gets worse contact Samsung down the line for warranty/replacement. Decided to leave this as information if some other person happens to have the same problem in the future.

feel for you, such a shame and disappointing to happen a second time, it's a great phone, i did not want to risk it so sent second one back too. Fingers crossed you won't have any issues. Mine was happening regularly so like you say just keep an eye on it.

i actually noticed it a few times.. like last night it was doimg it. sort of right above where the keyboard is in portrait mode..
it seems to happen when its really cold outside for me.. its not enough for me to have it replaced thankfuly
I can replicate this when I clean my screen with a microfibre cloth. It happens on pretty much all of the screen. I believe I can also see some light streaks in the screen when this happens. The popping sound happens regardless of the temperature of the phone. Will have to inspect it more to see if I can spot any other issues with the screen. I got mine in the UK just over a week ago. Apart from that I think the phone has been great so far. Not sure whether to replace it.
glad i sent mine back now to be honest, personally i would send back, as you say everything else is great apart from the screen popping sound. The worry for me is the screen might cause issues further down the road, screens are the biggest issue with mobile phones and manufacturers are quick to blame user and deny warranty.

My Unlocked US Note 9 does it too. Mine mainly does it on the right side near the middle. It's not enough for me to warrant sending it back; it still works fine and I don't see any screen issues when pressing on the screen. Also I bought mine used so I'm guessing the screen was replaced. If it gets worse, I guess I'll fix it then.
