I would like to know if I factory reset my rooted KF2, will it revert back to the stock state? I am asking cos I deleted some system /app files and I think it causes my business calender failed to sync with gmail.
thinking if reverted to stock,then all the default apk or installed software will be restored and I can re-root the kindle again.Possible?

Thanks for the link but it said reset does not unroot the device.
I am abit confuse, if i factory reset a rooted kindle:
1. Do i need to root again?
2. Does all the kindle default software and apk in the system/app be restored? I deleted some.....
3. Will all the above brick my device?

Yes, but it also says that anything placed into the /system directory needs to be removed when returning to stock. By extension, anything removed from the /system directory needs to be replaced to return it to a stock state. A factory reset only touches the /data and /cache directories and will not undo anything done to the /system directory.

Thank you so much. Is it possible to advise me which file is necessary(in system/app) for sync gmail in business calender? i only remember i deleted the default calendar.apk. Tried restoring but not working
In other words, once you delete an apk from system/app, its gone for good.
The factory rest uses the files in system to restore itself. If it was a file you downloaded and placed there, then its not horrible. If its stock KFHD system file, then you will need to find another source to replace it..

Probably someone with a KF2. I had the HD but I returned mine, I can't help you there.
For sync issues, you can read my notes here. This was done on a KFHD, this may help you, though I didn't test it with google calendar and no longer have the device, but it activated stock android sync (to google). You need to be rooted and at least have gmail installed.

Be careful the rom I posted was for Galaxy Ace!!!
Yes, It's possible, I don't know in mini ... this is the GT-S5830 Q&A THREAD so...
but the fastest way to go back to stock is doing a backup before to use the custom, and then restoring it when you want to go back via custom RECOVERY, or FALSHING A FRESH STOCK ROM VIA ODIN
...and in Galaxy Ace it's possible to use directly the lastest firmware, "one package fw"

well, the best way to avoid all kind of troubles is flashing a fresh stock via Odin
I'm using a bareboned stock rom, I deleted all useless apps etc and I chaged the kernel and stock partitions from .rfs to .ext4, so I have a clean backup ready to restore in my SDCARD, so I can flash whatever I want, and then when I get tired I can always return to my clean previous rom and I don't need to use Odin
am a noob so...
1. change the kernel? even for lastest fw?

well... you can change the kernel, deodex your rom, change .rfs partition format to .ext4 format and add more tweaks, barebone your rom... (not for a noob way) or the easiest way!! you can flash a based stock rom with ALL this changes done e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534804

i got my phone rooted. ur magical zip works great. once again thank you.
now, i got 50+ mb free space in /system.
i just tried backingup via cwm, it said error mounting the system, bla, bla...
so, next question is how to backup this rom?

you can try mounting manually /system and then doing the backup
go to mount and system >>> mount /system >>> back >>> backup and restore >>> backup

mm I guess what is your problem
maybe .rfs format , so try to convert your partitions to .ext4 partition, It would solve your problem
use CF-Root-S5830_ext4-v1.3u3.apk to convert .rfs to .ext4 format

edit: i think i did it right. now ive converted it to .ext4.

Well you need a custom kernel to get an init.d folder or create it on yourself but the easy way, flash cf-root b84, BE 1.5.1. or whatever kernel you want, and you'll get an init.d folder support, so you'll be able to flash the int2ext script without any kind of problem

I want to root it so I can unlock it and delete some useless pre-installed apps.
I've tried to root it following quite a few tutorials here on XDA (including various zip updates) but all I got was a useless superuser app without root permissions.
I think that's because the version I have is no longer compatible with those methods, but I don't know.
So I want to ask: Is there any method, no matter how hard it is, able to definitely root a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with android 2.3.6?
And in the case it isn't possible, do you know if I take it to one of those "repairs" shops they could at least unlock it? or do they use the same methods?

Well, I Installed CWM, tried Delete_thinkdroid.zip (didn't do anything. Think free office is still installed and working), upd_1.zip, acegingerroot.zip, gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip, CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip, b84-fixed.zip and still no root.
Now, my phone boots with a blue triangle in the top left corner but that's all.
upd_1.zip gave the following error:
Code:
E:Error in /sdcard/upd_1.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip did the same but changing the name:

E:Error in /sdcard/gingerbred-2.
3.6-root.zip

no. that you need is to liberate memory space to push root files to /system
Blue triangle is good don't worry (cfroot kernel installed )
Cfroot b84 fix isn't flashable through CWM, normal that your device aborted the installation
Your error message is because your sdcard is corrupted, so copy all your data from your sdcard to your pc using an USB adapter.
Then format your sdcard using windows in Fat32 format (you can do it using your phone and selecting format your sdcard in settings )
Copy the files again and flash it when you have free space
I'm going to provide you a script to delete a serius app, wait a moment

I think it was a memory problem as you said, because I formatted the SD card, ran the script and everything worked fine like a charm!

I advised you to reflash cfroot b84 kernel just to avoid troubles if it wasn't be installed properly
1.Flash cf-root b84 via CWM
2.Boot android and look at an app CWM, in this app select "flash kernel" and select cfroot b84 FIX (this part fix bootanimation trouble)

I had no boot animation problems, but anyway, done that.
A little problem i just noticed is that after reinstalling Gmail and Youtube (after deleting them with the script) those two apps seem to not be working and send a couple of error messages after booting saying "process com.google.android.youtube" and "process com.google.android.gm" have stopped unexpectedly and giving the option to force close or report... So you know if I can fix that?
EDIT: Google Maps and Think free office work fine...

You can do it following the next steps:
You need to set the permissions correctly and delete Gmail.odex and YouTube.odex files if exist in /system/app before paste this new apps
1. Mount /system (R/W) in order to paste the apps
2. Just put the apps in /system/app and set the permissions like this (holding over each file, you'll change permissions)

Why not if you have SuperUser installed? Search Titanium Backup and install it from Play Store. Remove any unnecessary system app using it. Root has nothing to do with removing the system app automatically or through Application Manager. So you will need the third party app like Titanium Backup.
P/S: Becareful with uninstalling/removing system app. Else you will render your phone unusable at all. (To unbrick it you will need more trick, search the thread in XDA to revive your phone)

Titanium requires root and my superuser wont root I would rather not root at all the only thing I want to get rid of are optus stuff that was preinstalled but doesnt even work on my phone. all the research that I have read says that to remove bloat ware you need to root. I attached 2 scripts to remove some apps to get free space. Then you could flash root.zip successfully

I dont want to flash phone as I really dont know what I am doing. the google play store has a superuser app that I have the manual download for but I want to be able to unroot when I'm done (dont want any mishaps and my littleies play with my phone all the time) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.superuser&hl=en)

Follow the steps:
1. Here you could find the scripts to remove the apps and get free space (it's compulsory for the last roms to push superuser files)

2. You have enough free space now (your apps have been deleted, check it)
Flash ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. FIXED files to get root and a custom recovery

works fine here. where did you install it? its supposed to be in /system/priv-app/. theres a flashable in the viper thread in the themes and apps section.

Idk what you mean by that sorry I installed the apk and I installed the drivers can you give me a link to the threat you used to install it?

that's why it won't work, you can't install it as a normal app, it needs to be a system app. anyways, here you go. needs to be flashed in twrp recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/viper4android-t2952137

I tried flashing a different one and still nothing could be twrp? I installed twrp using the nexus root toolkit

you can use any root file explorer to stick the apk into /system/priv-app/, then reboot and it'll install itself.

Okay this what I'm going to do
1. Extract apk from the stock viper 5.0 to system/priv-apps
2. Go to recovery flash the zip
3. And boom it should appear

just sticknit into /system/priv-app/ and save it. then just reboot and it will install itself.no flash needed this way.

sounds like you don't have root, or just have partial root.

That's strange cause I am able to use light flow for my notification light which uses root

then you have partial root. its a normal issue, that happens often enough. to be 100% sure, you can try editing tour build.prop file. if the edits stay after a reboot then you have full root. if they don't stay after a reboot, then you have partial root. which is why viper isn't working. it can also be that your system is full. you can delete whichever apps you don't use from /system/app/, which will give you space. you did say you flashed it but it never appeared. if its full, it can't appear.

When I tried editing the build.prop it said I didn't have enough space even tho I have 20 gb left of storage

i know, google did it on purpose. to fix that delete whichever system apps you dont use. and storage has nothing to do with system space. system space iz held in a seperate partition.

only the one i have installed. full list for backup / reinstall purpose. installed and not active. xposed ha a function to export /import list. I like it.
If you just need a backup, make a backup of the Magisk image (/data/adb/magisk.img). That's where all modules are kept (for now, this might change in a future version of Magisk).

I do this all the time.. back the files in location mentioned above to ext sdcard...wipe device for a clean flash (all except ext sdcard/EFS obviously)...flash new ROM, then flash gapps, then flash magisk, then still in TWRP, I copy the files back to correct location and reboot

Zip files are not saved. It gets extracted in to the location as mentioned in this thread. But each time you flash a module the zip file is downloaded in to Download folder of your internal storage. Save it for future use.
Now /data/adb/magisk.img is no more used... What folder must I backup?

All modules are currently stored in /data/adb/modules. Would the concept of copying the files back to the correct location still work after a reboot?

I actually havent tried it since the change from the img method
I can tell you i do backup and restore the magisk.db file....i have a Galaxy Active2 Watch, and if it even sniffs root i have to reset the watch and start over to get Samsung Pay working. So i flash the ROM/GApps, then Magisk, reboot and setup the ROM and Magisk, set my Android ID back to the previous one (to avoid having to reset the Watch, and have it connectable in Gear app) then copy the magisk.db to /data/adb, then reboot. Then enable MagiskHide, and hide Magisk Manager. When i restore my apps the Samsung ones are already in the MagiskHide list and Samsung Pay works as before, once i reconnect the watch.
Next time i flash ill try copying back the /data/adb/modules and let you know

I was about to flash a new ROM for testing, and thought about doing the test...copy the modules folder from /data/adb, and restore on new ROM and then realised that not all modules im using are going to like that, as some set symbolic links during install and some now use filesystem overlays as well (thinking busybox and Vanced Youtube)
Ive just decided rather than copying im going to stick with what works 100%, and install them by hand one by one
