[Q] 1440p Video On Youtube? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can anyone confirm if youtube plays videos at 1440p on the N6? my note4 only goes to 1080p and am thinking of trading for the nexus, and this may help make the decision.

It should work but it depends on whether the particular video lists it as an option

I only see 1080P as the highest option. I read somewhere that YouTube removed anything higher then 1080p from the app

Well that's my question. Does the YouTube player have the 1440p option? On my note 4 the highest option available is 1080p but there is a hack where changing the build prop to 5.0 allows the 1440p option. I would prefer not to do this though as it's being reported it breaks s-note

I can confirm. I tried this video here http://youtu.be/p56_y43UuEk and there's no option for 1440

I can also confirm. Received my N6 today and the youtube app does not have any options for anything above 1080p even if the video is 1440p or higher. All you need is the updated apk from this post. It works in 1440p perfectly. http://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/2mxo74/youtube_5185_has_2k/

Do you think you can actually see the difference? Don't mean to sound like a ****, just curious. Lol

Yeah i can absolutely tell a difference. Try it.

An amazing idea for an xposed module (in my opinion)

Hello everyone, today i had an idea for a xposed module, that would be very helpful for people that have phones without a native HD resolution, like me (800x480).
So here is the deal: i thought of a module that could emulate an HD resolution on the YouTube app, therefore, allowing people to watch videos with quality above their native resolution. I need that because i think 480p on my phone (that is HUGE) looks awful, maybe because the screen ia huge, i dunno...
If it's possible to do so, or if anyone has the skills to do such a needed module please do!!
And thank you.
Greetings
Rusty
It won't be useful. You have a 480p screen. Watching a 720p video on a 480p screen is just wasting your bandwidth.

Yeah, it will be useful, for one simple reason, 480p on a screen this size looks just horrible, and no its not wasting my bandwidth, because with 480p on my phone on YouTube, my phone buffers a 40min video in like 5-10sec. So 720p on my phone's screen will make a big quality difference (will be more pleasing to the eyes) and it won't matter on my bandwidth.

Less packet loss, therefore more quality. I can easily notice some packet/frame loss by quality decreases along the reproduction of the video, particularly in some more "fast paced" videos i watch, mainly in drift videos and rocket league videos, that are uploaded at 1080p 60fps.

I can´t explain very well, but have you ever been watching a stream on twitch (on your phone) on High quality, not Source, HIGH, and when the video starts moving faster (camera pans/jumps) the quality degrades? No? Then you can never understand what im talking about. That is waht im trying to fix....

Solution: update your device to a newer device with a higher resolution
It is not possible to make a display with a given resolution to show stuff with a higher resolution.
Basics: the screen's resolution is determined by its pixel, which means that there is a maximum resolution available for a given device. A higher resolution will be downscaled or pixel will be merged as not all provided pixels can be shown on that display. Simple as that.
Such a module already exists. It's called YourTube. Just search for it in the installer or on the website.

[Q] YouTube: enable 1440p/4K

Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
I'd assume it would work similar to PC's. I only have a 1080p monitor but I can still watch 4k videos on youtube and they actually tend to look quite nice. No idea if it would be worth on a 5'5 display though.
Do you want to zoom?
1440p, 4k videos are looking better on 1080p screen, because there is less video compression artifacting. And you can watch 4k 360 videos too! If you know xposed, then use the YouTube+ module.
It's kinda pointless since our screen is 1080p. It won't display more pixels than it's capable of

Yeah, because the hardware in your phone is immune from creating those video artifacts...
Until I see a comprehensive, professional comparison article about the results of the YouTube/Google downsamlping algorithm vs the hardware solution in the 821 CPU I'll take that claim with a 4K sized grain of salt. But whatever, it your bandwidth and power to waste.

I have done so by putting the phone into performance it entertaining mode but it didn't help. Still don't have 1440 option
Clear the YouTube cache in apps settings.
Update, if I put the phone into performance or entertainment mode and restart the phone then I get 1440p option. If I set it back to optimized setting then I still have the 1440p option but if the screen turns off on it's own then the option is gone
Working fine here, Unlocked on Verizon.
this has been discussed already on this forum and the fix was changing the phone's native resolution display settings to allow for that option.
i always keep the phone in performance mode because i want to take advantage of all these whiz bang features samsung has touted (this is my first ever sammy device).
