[Q] How is the sound and Call quality vs other phones - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Anybody have any opinions on the call quality for the Droid Turbo?
Incoming, outgoing, how it sounds in general volume wise, tone wise, etc?
Thoughts?

Earpiece volume is low unless you have your ear positioned in precisely the right spot.

Would you say the voice clarity is pretty good or just eh?

I've had no problems at all. No low volume, sounds great to me. Last phone I had was galaxy s3 and it seems better.

Call quality is OK.
The problem is the loudspeaker, that is not that bad, but its not good as the ones found on Moto X or HTC M8.
So, Im thinking in buying a JBL Clip.

Audio Quality

Is the LG O4X audio quality & volume through headphones really that bad? I've read GSMarena's review as they've now posted the audio part of the review. They said it possibly one of the worst devices they've tested
This will be a deal breaker for me. :-( what do you guys think?
Any previous GSII ownes in here that can provide input on personal opinions between the quality of the two?

Audio quality seems fine to me. GSMArena suspected they had a faulty unit, and said they would try another but I have yet to see an update to the review to reflect this.
I did see that but thought what is the chance of them receiving a faulty unit. Im currently using a Galaxy S II, and the audio quality via music player suits me. I reappy want the 4X as its a sexy beast, just wouldn't be able to cope with crap music quality.

The sound quality is pretty good on the 4x. I upgraded after breaking my milestone and I was also iffy on buying the 4x because of the gsm review... when I tested it out, it sorta felt like my entire phone became a speaker but it instantly became muffled when I covered the grill. Black magic is at work here lol
Im on about through the headphones lol

Oudio output is fine for me too, though not as good as the One X, a little louder would not be a bad thing, but overall as good as other smartphones in the segment.
It is, once again, fine. Satisfactory. I don't like in-ear headsets so I just use the ones that came with my milestone 2 years ago >_> I did try the headphones that were in the box though, they unlock some eq presets along with an option to manually tweak the levels. But plugging in any headphones will unlock that.
...as good as the other six smartphones I use, honestly. I always check music quality through my $500 akg closed headphones with quite a range of high quality files and the 4x sounds really fine, absolutely no problem here.
Just bought 4X to replace my 3.5" iPhone 4S, everything is fine except the sound quality which I must say is terrible compared with iPhone especially when using the built in speaker Maybe it's because the speaker is at the back of the phone

What if you set the O4X on its front so that the speaker grill is facing upwards? Will it be not as terrible? Is it really that bad compared to iPhone 4S?

Only the sound is louder, quality won't improve no matter where you face the speaker. Apart from Moto's Raxx, iphone's sound quality is excelent (from my own experiece).
I downloaded Poweramp as recmmended by local forum here to my 4X and the sound quality improves a little bit.

ok the sound of the built-in speaker is poor, but with headphones, for me, the sound is great. I don't think it's very exciting listen music with the speacker ......
Use the right headphones (i got a HTC set) and download the POWERAMP app...

hi guys, what about the call quality? is it loud n clear on speakers?
It's okay. I went through a few phone calls and I didn't experience any problems and have no complaints.
Although... has anyone else noticed that the voice for navigation is kinda quiet? I turned it up to max and drove a few suburbs over but I felt like it was a bit too gentle for a car environment.
Music over bluetooth, Motorola Motorokr s305 stereo headphone & headset works good. But dolby mobile setting stutters (to bad, cause I liked the sound). I now use the headphone amplifier setting. Also good, but not as loud as Dolby mobile.

Did anybody try the headphone out with high-end multidriver iems (Like Shure SE535, Phonak PF232 or Westone UM3x...)?
I'm an iPhone 4S user and the headphone out is almost perfect when listen thru my UM3x. Hence i was wondering if the 4X would be close in terms of noise floor, resolution and frequency response.
Thanks in advance

If the TF10 sounds good and you have your treble then output impedance of the LG must be quite low which is a great thing.
Could you fill me in about the noise floor (Noise that you can hear when you pause the music till the amp section shuts off).
Thanks a lot
Audio quality problem
I sometimes hear below average audio quality and I have to re-insert my head phone to get normal audio. Do any body facing this problem

Sound quality?

How's the sound quality (through headphones)? As noisy and awful as the Galaxy S II is supposed to be? As "clean" as the output in the HTC One S? Or more likely somewhere in-between?
And it's obviously subjective but how's the sound stage? Is it "flat" like some users of the US S4 Galaxy S III claim, compared to the Wolfson Galaxy S III's?
I like the hd sound best compared to rhe one x s3 and nexus stock bc the eq works really well. The stock eq even adjusts apps output like rdio as well. I wish it had an am/fm radio. I saw nothing special in the sound of my intl s3. The nexus rooted w franco kernel and sound enhancement is the highest quality u can hope for w android. JB helps as well.

i think sound quality is great!! only thing that bugs me is, since the speaker grill is in the bottom next to camera, whenever i put it on the table it kinda sounds small since the speaker grill is blocked but otherwise when you are holding it on hand, it sounds really good and loud!!

I have no issues with the clarity of the sound. I honestly feel that loudness isn't a great indicator of sound quality .. loud =! good quality

well i didnt mean loud= good but big sounding speaker is always a plus when u have a lot of noise goin on!!! but i get your point too.. :silly:
What about the quality through BT or headphones? I rarely use the speaker on the phone, but not a day goes by that I link my phones media player to my car stereo or listen through good headphones while doing various tasks...
I've read people saying that connecting to BT in a car gets screwy when you have the Smart Actions enabled... anyone have any insights?
Comparing to one x tgis doesnt do as good. Choppy is right but i have smart actions enabled so i will try without smart actions and get back with it

[Poll] Nexus 5 Call Quality

Additional comments are welcome.
I'd say the phone has excellent call quality, it's loud and crisp, I couldn't ask for more really.
Bump.
whoever voted poor must be an iphone user
I haven't voted until I make more calls but of the three I've made, every person said my voice was choppy. I find it hard to blame the network because I have full signal and there were no complaints on my previous phone. The only difference is I had to switch to a micro sim but I dunno how that could be an issue.
I've made a few calls so far and all sounded fine.
The volume wasn't as loud as other phones but the sound was clear.
I've run into what might be a problem on my phone. When I send or receive a call, the first few seconds the other person on the line couldn't hear me. Then the sound would slowly increase till it was normal. I only have two bars where I'm at, so I'm hoping it's bad reception. Funny my wife has a moto x and she has full bars and the call quality is excellent. Oh,I can hear the other people loud and clear. Maybe it's my microphone.

I've been told my voice isn't as loud as my Moto X
I voted good. It's acceptable to me, but not as nice as the Moto X. On both ends of the call.
I think it's excellent. Coming from gs4

Yeah the X is my first one, its call quality is superb. I was expecting the N5's to be pretty bad considering everything I've read about LG (the N5 is my first LG as well) but it's actually pretty good. Quite pleased.
I have a call quality issue. My voice sounds terrible to the person I'm talking to. I've left myself voicemails to confirm.
This isn't necessarily a problem with the phone. I think most noise cancelling systems are confused by the specific tone of my voice, and end up trying to cancel pieces of it.
I had the same issue on the Galaxy S3. The S3 had a setting in the dialer app to disable noise reduction and that fixed my issue. I have not found a setting like that on the N5.
As a test, I put my finger over the noise cancelling microphone and left myself a voicemail and I think it sounded better. But that was only 1 test, so I'm not certain about that yet.
comparing to the iPhone 5S, 5 and other devices I've used that I think were great. It's on par. I'd say excellent.
Ive experienced excellent call quality, both on regular netwrok, and VOiP with GrooveIP
compared to my desire hd the nexus 5 is like talking face to face. I always had issues with the htc and i was told people were talking mostly to their echoes and not to me.
This is the best phone, call quality wise, that I've had since my last dumb-phone.
I'm a little confused; however... I don't see a pole.

Low call volume?

I tried a phone call and the volume seems really low even at max volume. Anyone else have that issue?
Also, what about using simultaneous voice and data - does it require an update to work?
I seen some other people say that voice and data didn't work together. Are u kidding me? My old Note 2, Droid 4 and HTC One Max all had data while talking on the phone.

I too noticed low call volume. Boss got the phone same time I did and he says the same. Tried the trick of holding down volume to all the way low and then raising it and that still didnt fix it.
Loving the phone, but if I cant hear people unless its dead quiet, thats no good.
Speaker problems
I just picked up the 64gb! I love the phone...a lot! I notice the low volume on calls as well, but I think there is something more going on.
The speaker sounds absolutely horrible. There is no way this thing isn't defective. It sounds like an old speaker with a busted cone that makes the "tingy" noise. :crying: Just curious if anyone else is having this problem. I listened to the one in the store, but it was very noisy in there. I couldn't get a good gauge. I am going to go back and see what is up. These things happen, I just hope that is what it is. I powered up my Razr Maxx again and listened to see. It sounded great. Please be defective!!!

I noticed this too, my speaker sounded pretty "fuzzy". Haven't had much time to listen to the speaker.
I didn't call anyone yet but I tested a movie and it sounded great coming from an s4
I fixed my problem. Turn off the stupid equalizer for the phone speaker. Much louder for everything.

It's somewhere under the sound settings.
Yeah in the sound settings under Audio Effects.
It seems the call sound is coming from the upper right speaker not the whole speaker strip. I find it a bit loader with my ear closer to the top right corner. Seems a bit silly and i could be wrong but feels this way for me.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
I agree - I think the sound is very low.
This is compared to a Galaxy S5 which I could basically set down, not use speakerphone, and still hear.
I'm also experiencing low volume in calls. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to return the phone. I've owned many smart phones and have never experienced this.
The only "workaround" that I've found is to hold the phone in an unnatural position slightly away from my ear and with my ear at the top corner of the phone, and even then the volume is still too low. Totally unacceptable. Did they never make a phone call during testing?? I hope this can somehow be addresses via a software update asap.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm thinking this can be solved by a software update. I agree though, the volume is quite concerning.

If we had root it would probably just be a build.prop edit... Oh well.
I'll be waiting for one or the other
So if I'm on BT and switch to speaker on phone instead of talking through the car, the speaker on the phone is super loud, nor van be turned down. Anyone else notice this?

You're right. Seems weird that its not in the middle but its fine if you put your ear to that corner
There are little notches on the left and right side of the grill, my suspicion is that there are "stereo" speakers with one located above each notch. They may also have the audio configured to split volume between the two speakers.
Each call I have had was on speaker phone, and the call quality for me was MUCH better than my G2 and much louder. I took a call today and did not use speaker, I too noticed at first that the call volume was extremely low, I was clicking the volume up constantly and no change. Finally I moved the phone around a bit on my ear until I found the sweet spot.
It seems the call comes from the side, possibly one of the stereo speakers, I believe I remember having to hold the phone on the right side to my ear to get the best volume. It is plenty loud though, just move it around a bit and you will figure it out! Hope this helps!

Very quiet speaker

Just got a droid turbo and the loudspeaker is A LOT quieter than my galaxy s4 when playing audio, ive turned off audio effects. Is this normal?
I've just compared buzzers loudness of Turbo and sgs 5. And I cannot say that s5 sounds louder, maybe just a little bit, I'm not sure, but Moto plays music/audio with much more bass and more pleasantly as for me. So if your buzzer is really quiet, you have a mechanical problem imho.
Bummer, thanks man
Speaker sucks on the turbo

Is it rooted?
"I get to ask the questions. I've found you look a lot smarter asking the questions than dumbly not answering."*
No there is no way to root Verizon xt1254 without sunshine right? I dont want to buy it (sunshine) then realise the speaker is faulty and have to send it back and waste the 25 dollars.
Return it, I came from a s4 and found the turbo to be louder just because of the placement of the speaker.
