Which File Manager App - Nexus 6 Themes and Apps

What file manager app are you using on your N6? I am seeking one and would like to know what other fellow users find most suitable.

I've been using Solid Explorer for a long time. Cabinet beta is nice too.

I like ES file explorer.

I have been using Root Explorer forever.

ES File has been my choice also, i just got my N6 yesterday and wanted to see what else is out there. Root will be coming of course

ES File Explorer and Root Explorer. I do have Amaze File Explorer installed. Amaze seem decent but it hasn't supplanted Root Explorer for go to ops.

ES File Explorer like majority is my go to file manager

Astro

If SSH connections are required, I prefer FX explorer. It handles key files and non standard ports. It's good in general too.

Root Explorer

I love X-Plore. It has one of the best interfaces I've used in a while. I'm a big fan of the dual window for transferring files.

X-plore! Dual Windows, yep...makes file transfers a breeze...which I do a lot on nexus....I'm a flash cracker...so I move .zip's from downloads to a top of the list "aflash" folder.

Any file explorer, doesn't need root support, have a nice material design yet?

Quick Question Re: root

After rooting with OCR will I need to do anything else other then get a file explorer to enable me to remove useless apps like Co-Pilot trial (even though I have the full version) from the system apps folder?
nope thats all you need, ROOTING your phone is just like running your PC as administrator. it gives you that bit of extra control over the phone.
a good file explorer for rooted phones is 'root explorer' its free in the market
Thank you. BTW root explorer is showing as £2.50 in the market. Is there another one as good but free?

Theming Question

What is the app that lets you get the apps process name for icons on miui themes? I've tried most the play store apps, none do what I want, help?

Anyone?

Open the play store app link in your browser and take a look at the url.
e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDIwMywiY29tLm1lZGlvY3JlLnNwcmlua2xlIl0.
Look where it says "id=com.mediocre.sprinkle"
There's your app name.
Or, download something like Quick System Info Pro, long-press the app/process name and select "details".
Or, probably the easiest way is to use a file explorer that allows you to browse to /data/system/customized_icons - you will find all the app process names and icons there.
Oh, and next time please use the stickied threads for general questions.
Easiest way to know what to name an icon for a theme is to use a root level file explorer - I use Root Explorer, but you can also use ES File Explorer (you may have to enable root browsing in the app's settings). Root Browser also has a free version, but I've never been able to get it to work on MIUI. The version bundled with Rom Toolbox, which is the same app, works fine for me.
Using any of those apps, go to the phone's internal storage, then /data/system/customized_icons_1 and copy that folder to your SD card. All of the unthemed icons will be in that folder, named the way you need to name them for the icon to theme on the desktop.
This will be the quickest and easiest way to finish up a theme, because sometimes the main process name of the app is not the process that shows on the desktop. Google Maps is a good example because it puts four icons on your desktop. Facebook will show as com.facebook.katana, but the process name to theme the desktop icon is different.
Edit: Damn, missed the last part of the post above. Oh well, my bad.

Change the look of Android to WP7

This is a simple procedure to change the interface of android to windows phone
First of all,I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY HARM YOU MAY CAUSE TO YOUR DEVICE!!!!!Guys just a sec! I am busy u knw!But finally, after long waiting, here's the procedure
First download these awesome softwares from other cool devs available on the play store or as apks on the net
Launcher 7(Home screen)
Photo safari(Pictures hub)
Z player (Music Player)
WP7 Notifications(Notifications.Duh!!)
My xbox live(games hub)
Wp7 Lock(lock screen)
WP7 Contacts(Contacts)
Wp7 Phone(optional)
Wp7 calculator
Wp7 email
Downloaded? Now for the second step,Shift all the user apps to system apps.Apps like the phone and music should be replaced.Xbox live, calculator can just be loaded.NoteELETE THE ODEX FILES IF YOURE DELETING A SYSTEM APP!!!
In case you dont knw how to make a user app to system read on,else, skip the next para
There are two ways you can convert a user app to system:The NOOB way and the XDA way!
Noob wayownload titanium backup pro, long press an app,go to special functions and click move to system app Or download system app mover.
XDA way:
Important: Make sure to allow any SuperUser permission requests that you may get during these steps..
Procedure
Configuring ES File Explorer for root read/write access (required only once):
Launch ES File Explorer, press Menu and tap ‘Settings’.
In the settings, enable the ‘Up to root’ check box.
Further down in the settings, enable ‘Root Explorer’ check box. You will get a warning that you should confirm.
You will then get the Superuser permissions request that you must allow.
Finally, enable the ‘Mount File System’ check box, and press the back key to get back to the explorer interface. ES File Explorer is now configured to work as a root explorer. You do not need to do this again on the same device now, unless you uninstall ES File Explorer, perform a factory reset or install another ROM.
Finding the APK of an already-installed normal app (skip to step 3 if you already have the APK):
First of all, install the app from Play Store, if you haven’t already done that.
Launch ES File Explorer and go to /data/app. (You may have to press the back button to get to / first).
If you know the icon of the app, you can easily find it here. If you are having trouble finding the app here due to the confusing names or because of having a lot of apps installed, just search for the app in Google Play Store in a web browser and look at its Play Store link for the name. The file name will basically be the part after ?id= in its market link (and before any other question mark that may or may not appear in the link).
If you already have the APK of the file that you want to install as a system app, make sure you have transferred it to your device’s SD card if you haven’t done that already. Also make sure you know the path where you have copied it on the SD card.
Once you have located the required APK on the SD card from ES File Explorer, tap-and-hold on its icon till you get a menu, and tap ‘Cut’. You should see a little blue arrow on the bottom of the screen now. (You may select ‘Copy’ instead of ‘Cut’ if you are copying a file over from the SD card and want to keep a copy there. In case of copying an APK from /data/app, always use ‘Cut’.)ES File Explorer Copying
Now press the back button till you reach / and then browse to /system/app/
Tap the little arrow that you see on the bottom of the screen. It will bring up a pane with the icon of the copied file.
Tap on the file’s icon, and it will be transferred to /system/app/.
Now find the app’s icon in the list of files there and tap-and-hold on it till you get the menu.
Scroll down in the menu till you see ‘Properties’ and tap on it. You will now see the properties dialog.
Tap the ‘Change’ button in front of the Permissions to bring up the permissions dialog.
Make sure everything under ‘Read’ is checked, only ‘User’ is checked under ‘Write’ and nothing is checked under ‘Execute’ Your screen should look like the following:ES File Explorer Permissions
Tap OK on this screen and then on the Properties screen. Your app’s permissions are now set correctly.
Reboot your device. Your app is now ready to be used as a system app.(optional)
Well were done!
youre ready to use ur brand new WP7!!!

Just buy a WP7 phone.
Oh wait, no need to buy. just moaning to them about your android or ios phone and they will give you free one.
There are many apps in the market that will change the look to WP7. Start with a metro UI launcher.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The best metro style launcher is Launcher 7, it has a great customizatoin capablities, and even came with some live tiles.(email, contacts, calendar, gallery, widget tile). even more you can customize tiles.
here you can find the launcher and many nice alternative png for tiles.
also if you are on a CM9/10 or AOKP ROM you can find some winphone7 themes too. I can't find the link right now, but sure you can find it in XDA. just search for wp7 theme.
and you can find a nice messagind app, name Messaging 7. and a status bar replacement named statusbar+
if WP7 has only a single perfect point it is the launcher. It's about a month that I'm using Launcher 7, and surprisingly I found it even easier to use than usual android launchers.
p.s the launcher 7 is designed by an independent developer so it has some bugs. for example contacts live tile drains the battery at unbeliveable speed. ignore that live and use a static one.

For me airdroid works just fine. As space is quite limited files are not too big either. Which is like 500 MB at the most.
I am still mobile while transferring data and it's not like the device becomes unresponsive while doing so.

The easiest way for me is to use ES File Explorer and add your PC as an FTP server. Obviously this takes a little bit of setting up but its easy for me since I use SSH on my Linux box all the time so all I had to do is add my info into the FTP section of ES and from then on whenever I want to copy a file from my PC to my N7 or vice versa I just swipe back and forth between panes. The first time I did it I was thinking "there's no way its actually that easy...."
You can also use OTG cable and a USB Flash drive, or MicroSD reader.
hope to fund the MicroSD to MicroUSB adapter project (here) so it would be a lot easier to tranfer files not only between the computer but also between other android devices.
I just use WiFi explorer. Makes your device into a webserver that you can access with any browser and manage files. I find it faster then USB and more reliable.
In a pinch you can also wifi tether 2 devices and access each other that way. I do this with my Galaxy Nexus and N7 all the time.
Also very handy when pushing apks to devices that don't have market access. I can grab files using the browser without hassle since every device has that at least.

This is the best program for transferring files.. you just right click on a file on PC and click send to nexus 7.. that's it..its copied to nexus 7... its that simple..
Here is the thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724143
Its the best..you can send any file format..even folders too..try it out !!

I just plug mine into the PC and drag and drop to the drive it creates. How is that complicated or problematic?
For cloud storage I use Dropbox and Google Drive.

I gave it a try but I didn't like how spammy it is and its also loaded with other stuff which I didn't care for . At the moment I'm trying File Manager, its pretty simple without all those bells and whistles which I like, thanks

I use ROM Toolbox Pro. Has a number of useful tools including Root Browser (explorer) which allows you to see and manage (ie delete) files. I bought the "Pro" version years ago and since have forgotten the price on Play Store but seemed well worth it. I know they have a "Lite" version for free that probably has ads. They also break the individual apps out, including the Root Browser (I believe for free) if you don't want the other apps in the toolbox, but having a terminal emulator, ROM installer, boot animation tool, and others seems useful.
Other file manager apps include Solid Explorer, Astro File Manager, and Amaze File Manager to name a few. I know lots of people switch from ES File to Solid Explorer after ES went spammy. I tried Amaze File Manager... it has a pretty and user friendly user interface, but I always had success with ROM Toolbox Pro so I always go back to it.
