[Q] CM11 on AT&T S5? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hello. I have an AT&T S5 that is currently unlocked and I am using it with T-Mobile. I would love to root it and put Cyanogenmod 11 on it, as I put it on my nexus 4 before this and loved it. they say on the http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Klte_Info page not to use this guide due to the boot image signing. Does anyone have any information/instructions on how to go about completing this? Thanks!

OK, so I dont want to sound rude so forgive me if I do. but a search in the forums would show you that CM/AOSP/AOKP will not run on an AT&T S5 due to locked bootloader

I've also seen a lot of stuff about unlocking bootloaders on AT&T s5's though, so I was wondering if it is possible somehow.

unfortunately the BL will likely never be unlocked so the chances are extremely slim we will ever see a nything but touchwiz roms.

You can unlock the bootloader on other versions of the Galaxy S5 but you can't unlock the bootloader for the AT&T and Verizon version of the Galaxy S5.

maybe someone can actually get cm11 working for this device i once intalled it using safestrap and it booted touch and everything work but the screen didnt show anything

NO. You can't. On top of that, you posted this in the wrong section.
(Q) Questions don't go in Development.
This question is about two or three years old almost. Dude, almost all of At&t phones have LOCKED BOOTLOADERS and we will never be able to get passed it. NEVER EVER EVER,,,,,,,,Buy a T-Mobile phone!

NO. Someone wont. You go right ahead and keep flashing files, your phone is going to die. I wouldn't be flashing just whatever to see if it works. That's not a very good idea.

OK, just to clear this up one last time.
1. We can not install custom kernels, Stock TW kernels are not compatible with CM/AOSP/AOKP ROM's
2. the flashing process although it will complete does not mean the ROM will run.
3. There is (currently) no way to circumvent these issues.
4. SafeStrap will NOT flash kernels only the file system.
Some S5 and S5A devices (international models, Tmobile, Sprint) to name a few have unlocked BootLoaders
those devices can and do run CM/AOSP/AOKP ROM's. AT&T has a Locked BootLoader
I really don't mean to sound condescending however this device is fast approaching it's first birthday and many many people have tried to run CM or CM derivitives on the AT&T device, there are tons of threads cluttering the development forums in regards to this issue continuing to attempt to install a CM Build and then posting here in the AT&T forums is at this time a pointless effort.
Using the search feature either ein Goolge or in the forums will provide all the answers you need.
Thank you,

Well, one can only hope!:laugh:

In defense of the OP, it's pretty confusing that there's the Unified Development subforum which shows up under the AT&T section... I've been wondering why there's all these threads in a subforum to AT&T talking about installing all these roms that I know shouldn't work. I figured it was just something more involved than I'm comfortable with so I've ignored it. It seems like until the AT&T BL is unlocked that we shouldn't even have the Unified section linked here.

You have to unlock it. If you have an AT&T device it's locked.
This is the reason I'm using my upgrade to get a Nexus 6.

hate to burst your bubble but if you get the nexus 6 from AT&T it will also have a locked bootloader it is up in the air on whether or not it will be able to be unlocked. the only safe way to gaurentee an unlocked bootloader is to buy the nexus 6 unbranded direct from google.

Sending this on an unlocked nexus 6 from At&t. Not sure where u got that information but it's false. Upgraded from the S5 myself, no more locked down phones for me again.

im merely pointing out that everything i have read has pointed to it being locked (not that it cant be unlocked mind you) AT&T rarely sends devices with the bootloader unlocked whether or not you can unlock them is a different story. i merely stated that "From what i had read" sorry for the confusion
EDIT: in fact here is the thread stating it comes from AT&T locked but is unlockable

and if at&t will want they can unlock BL right? or is there any way to ask them bl unlock?

Newbie with droid 4

Hi guys, i plan on buying a droid 4 on ebay. it is not unlocked. and i was really need help to get it working with Rogers in Canada.
can someone please list out the steps from unlocking, root and flash to ICS?
I'm coming from galaxy nexus and it was pretty much a one step thing. but the droid 4 seems a little more complicated after some research. like what is a safestrap??
any help would be appreciated!
thanks in advance *cheers*
well someone should probably give you the bad news... droid 4 has a locked bootloader
You don't need to "unlock, root and flash" ICS, you can just install the leaked ICS from the factory stock recovery.
The leaked ICS enables the global capabilities but beyond that I can't provide you much info.....
Also, flashing the leaked ICS is irreversible, though you can move forward as new(er) leaks are found and most likely up to the eventual OTA upgrade as well.
The leaks are designed to upgrade the stock phone.

So what do I have to do for the phone to work with rogers? Cuz the seller specifically said I need to unlock it for it to work with rogers.
There was a couple of post a few months back regarding Rogers pretty sure about how to get it working n what not just scroll through the post and find what you need...

I think what the seller may have been referring to is the SIM card. If I understand it right, the D4 works on the Verizon network with that SIM card. You have to either get a new SIM that is specifically for Rodgers, or you need to unlock the Verizon SIM card, and then it can work on anything. Sorry, I don't know how to go about doing it specifically for rodgers, but you should be able to search xda for the procedure for unlocking the SIM card. Good Luck!
If I have helped, please hit the "thanks!" button!

I am on Rogers with this phone. I also figured out how to do tethering with it. Check my older posts and look up Rogers. So far, the only thing that is annoying is that it says unknown sim card when out starts up, and call forwarding doesn't work

Custom Recovery (TWRP) on AT&T Galaxy Note 3

Does anyone know if there is work going on for a custom recovery (TWRP) for our phone? We do have a one click root solution now (Kingo) so I imagine there will be some Dev's who will start popping up. I would love to bring it to our phone but I would have no idea where to even begin and I know little to nothing about dev'ing.
I believe you do know that we have a locked bootloader! That being said, im sure big devs are looking to unlock or even bootstrape it. Check the progress done on bootstrape for Verizon Note 3

HA! No. I really didn't know that. The first Android phone I got (Evita) had root & unlocked bootloader available on XDA when I bought it. This is the first "new" Android phone that hasn't had that and I guess I thought we only needed Root...duh. Well I guess I should have put this in the "stupid" questions thread!!! This is freaking awesome, been really waiting on this day. I am sitting here rooted and with TWRP installed, and that means that its only a matter of time before the ROMs start a comin'. Gonna make some back ups and then flash the stock rom from the T-Mobile Development thread and see how TWRP works, will post my results. Might not get it finished tonigh tho, my 4 year old is being relentless and not letting me play with MY toys.

[ROM][ROOT] Tab S 8.4 - SM-T707V(Verizon) Stock Pre-rooted ROM - Tester required.

I built this ROM as a test for those who have locked bootloaders on the Tab S and can't get root.
In my experience Samsung bootloader locked devices will not allow a custom kernel or recovery to be installed. However it is possible that the bootloader will allow a modified rom to be installed.
The rom is bone stock Lollipop 5.0.2 except it is pre-rooted with SuperSU 2.49. It needs to be installed via ODIN. If ODIN allows it to flash then its highly likely it will boot just fine.
If there are any issues that arise then all that is required is to flash the stock firmware, available here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-T707V/
T707VVRS1BOK1_preroot_system.img.tar
If anyone gives this a shot, please report with details.

If it works for the T707v then I'll do the same for the other Bootloader locked devices. It all depends on whether ODIN will flash it or not.
The reason I have used the T707v is because this device at least has the stock firmware available, so it should be relatively safe to try this.

I don't believe Odin allows modified system images to flash on bootloader-locked devices.

Its the stock OS already rooted.

For me I was curious to see if this is like the treble ROMs that are out. There are AOSP TREBLE ROMs out that function quite well. One of the advantages is that we have a choice not use Google apps/services with the TREBLE ROMs. Just like the old days. Most of the custom roms out now are loaded with gapps.
There's even AOSP based ROMs with gapps in this section that have a lot more customations.
It's really about choice.
