Does this kernel work for all 3 flavours of the z3 compact tablet? I am asking is as I read that you are developing with the wifi only version while I have the lte (SGP621) version.

I'm not sure, I don't know what the differences in kernel, but I don't think they have a lot of differences and probably it should work

Great!
krabappel2548, great work men! :good:
Very nice
Do you also know if the bootloader is still intact?
I ask this because the algorithms for noise reduction, Mira Cast and better pictures in lower light are protected by DRM and the process of unlocking the bootloader removes it from the software.
So basicly if the bootloader was unlocked we should also loose the named algorithms .
And you could loose waranty if you have to bring it back to the store for problems.
Of course not for Root/Custom ROM issues: That is still the responsibiliy of every user
Edit: Did you know that you could earn money? They reward people who can root the Xperia Z3. For details see http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/bounty-root-unlocking-bootloader-method-t2940539

I have installed the kernel and TWRP works fine.
The kernel seems to be the same as stock. The only difference I have found is that /system is rw from boot. If I
Code:
mount -o ro,remount /system
it becomes read only as expected. After this it is not possible to mount rw again (Operation not permitted) which is the same as stock.

Is it for UB only?

hack without root
Hey krabappel can an app be hacked without having root..?
I ask this because lucky patcher manage to hack an app and I have no root and locked bootloader.

First thanks for your hard work. Now I have some questions.
Is the kernel for wifi version 16/32gb?
How to open the bootloader without loosing the specific sony bravia and drm files. To backup them would be nice.
Thanks a lot for your time and work

Before there is a root for locked bootloader you will always lose them.

Question, Do you lose Sony's proprietary stuff when the bootloader is unlocked? Also, we will still receive software updates once unlocked and rooted? Thank you.

I am not sure about Sony proprietary stuff since I have not really used any of that. To me the tablet seems to work just fine after unlocking the bootloader.
Updates for the Sony applications like "Movies" are not working for me and it is probably caused by the unlocking. Waiting for CM12 so I can get rid of the Sony stuff...

If you aren't on stock kernel OTA updates will fail to verify. When you flash back stock kernel from an FTF with Flashtool it should work I think. Don't update through pc though. Use ftf files for safe updates, since pc companion might have a risk of bricking the device

Yes, unlocking a bootloader causes the BE2 not to work. However, there is a method to keep it. Just search xda for backing up .TA partition

you will lose your DRM keys, but BE2 will work with videos but not with pictures. This BE2 will work on stock based ROM's only. I flashed CM10.1 and result was have to give up BE under CM10.1, tried modding but no use. I compared with the screenshots taken.
other guys says that we will lose TrackID too but i never use that service so i cant comment on that.

Bravia Engine 2 is working in my Xperia V lt25i Unlocked BL with Stamina Mode Enabled.
for me its a miracle now as for the strong reviews that BE2 will be lost Forever.
check out the pics for proof.
Note:I Only checked it Working in Videos.Yet i Didnt Noticed the BE2 working in Pictures(or It is always Enabled for pictures)
WORKED FOR ME.

The Way I Flashed to get BE2 working.
install the app from market
open the app and choose BE2
Enable(ON) it and reboot the device.
(u will get a bravia.zip in ur sd\PimpMyRom\....zip)
open the app again and choose BE2 and flash it. thats all.
i flashed the zip manually through CWM.

If you don't see any difference in the pictures, then unfortunately this is a placebo effect. I have BE1 on my Xperia T with unlocked BL and BE1 is working only with the videos. And I didn't flash anything at all - stock rom without any mods and .zips flashed
But I'm curious about another thing - where did you get working Stamina Mode?
My phone is T. Xperia T.

It is an issue if you want those highly customisable roms such as cm,pac etc. I rather lose be2 than not having the chance to flash those. But now there's a way to save your ta before unlocking bootloader so it's all good for those who want to unlock bootloader and still keep be2 for future use.

[Q] Unlocking Bootloader - What is important?

Hello everybody!
I have decided that I'm going to unlock my Xperia V's bootloader. Perhaps I will do so this weekend.
But I need some information on all this stuff.
First of all, what are the important things to do before unlocking? Like for example backup TA partition and so on. How do I do these things?
Also, can anyone provide me a failure-proof guide on installing an AOSP rom? I think I want to install this Carbon room that appeared today in the XV forums.
I am currently on unrooted stock 4.3 (had some issues with my recovery some time ago, so I had to reset..)
I would also appreciate a summary of what is NOT working currently in the 4.4 roms, and if Kitkat is already stable enough for daily use on our devices.. (And perhaps also what impact an AOSP rom has on performance in benchmarke etc.)
Also, which kernels do you recommend?
I know, it's a lot of questions, but I just want to make sure I don't brick my phone.. It's the first time for me messing around with bootloader unlocks. ^^
Any replies/ helpful links/ advice are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my Xperia V using Tapatalk.
Ah, I forgot one question...
Does project butter work in 4.4 as well? Is it as smooth as stock 4.3?

root your phone then use Backup-TA-9.10 to backup TA first then go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions and follow guide here. so you can unlock very easy
Don't forget that unlocking your phone also factory resets it so backup important stuff first.

Alright.. And to root I'll have to go back to 4.1..
So, is this order correct?
-Optional Backup (don't know how to backup my apps without root tho. :/)
- Flash 4.1 ftf
- Root with Doomlord
- Backup TA
- Unlock BL
- Flash CM kernel (by the way.. How? i have never used this fastboot thing.)
- Enter recovery
- Flash rom zip
Still need some information about these kitkat roms, guys.. Any experiences? Any replies to my questions in op?

There is no original development section for XV, but I checked several of the kitkat roms' threads.
The people there are complaining about bad standby time.. And that the roms are not suitable for daily use.
Would you agree that kitkat is not yet ready?
I don't care about minor bugs, but that bad battery life or a not working camera (just an example) would not really encourage me to install 4.4

[LB/UB] Easily Root JB 4.3 and KK 4.4.2

Hey Everybody
Good news.
Easily root Xperia ZR on .101
I used http://towelroot.com
Fast and easy
Of course USB debugging should be enable.
Happy rooting
I ve seen this on the Xperia Z forums and what works there works everywhere !
So I say it works on the KitKat firmware
Dont think it would work on. 230 firmwares, kernel are patched in those.
But it should work on earlier ones.
Maybe i will try later.

Sounds great. Hope that it will stay with the new .233 kitkat that may be come in a view days.
Can we make OTA with this rooted version to next update that fix a view problems with google play services? Will root stay?
After this root you only had to install a recovery and it is perfect right?
I dont know yet, I wat surprised that it worked in the. 230 rom.
I flashed a clean tft, installed this app. After reboot i installeren Su then the recovery. As far as I see everything works, a small revolution......

Is installing recovery really necessary?
Thankyou wafeeq for sharing
I have a few (noobish)questions about this method of rooting, because the instructions are still a little sketchy for now.
I was wondering what the point of installing recovery is, is it to get the SuperSU to work on the phone? (forgive my noobish question).
After installing recovery do I have to set anything in recovery mode?
Is it necessary to unlock the bootloader?
Does this mean I can use backupTA after getting root? That would be awesome.

You are welcome.
1- Superuser is not recovery, imagine superuser as the policeman controlling root access.
2- just install recovery mentioned earlier.
3- You will not unlock your bootloader so nothing to fear regarding drm keys or ta partition.

As for recovery which BAT file should I run? SuperSU.BAT or SuperUser.BAT? I don't know how to check which one I have
There is post pointing to this ZR dual recovery method http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2471981
It has 2 batchfiles to choose from and the text file attached tells us to ensure we install the right BAT file by checking which one we have. Which one is the best option?

It depends on which one you have already installed. Not the other way around.

Very well. Root working on .101 with SuperSU. LOCKED BOOTLOADER.

You are welcome.
1- Superuser is not recovery, imagine superuser as the policeman controlling root access.
2- just install recovery mentioned earlier.
3- You will not unlock your bootloader so nothing to fear regarding drm keys or ta partition.

Yes works great, anyway to check if I SuperSU installed? I rooted the 4.2.2 Jelly bean last week and I remember having SuperSU installed, I can't seem to find it among the apps after the official 4.4.2 update.
No, this root comes without superuser or SuperSU, download it from play store

Can confirm working flawlessly on .230, tested using "Terminal Emulator" and gives a positive root result of #. Installed SuperSU and behaves as expected when trying to run root applications except when I try to run it manually, it prompts for an SU binary update saying "SU binary needs to be updated, Continue?". The normal update fails, think this is because i'm running stock firmware. Will need to flash the SUupdate after installing a custom recovery.
Ps: The Mcaffee antivirus detected the rooting apk as a virus, false positive prolly.....

Can i install MOD for a locked BL

Tread moved to the right tread
Which mod? You can do most of the features as long you are rooted. Or you can do even more if you have unlocked bootloader but you will lost your DLNA quality such as camera and walkman audio quality

You can flash mods that modify system (E.g. Xposed), but you cannot flash a custom kernel.

@znayver, you referring Bootloader Unlocked Allowed: No ? If is not rooted, which means its not allowed to Unlocked Bootloader, while rooting and flashing still works. You can refer help from this thread post link here
