Bloatware Removal List Compilation - HTC Desire 510

Hey everyone. I am happy that we have a kernel with write protection removed. Thanks to CurbThePain and rbheromax. Please use this thread in making a list of bloatware that we can remove safely without bricking our phones. I have been freezing apps with TB and kind of observing how the phone runs. If anyone has tried this or is interested in making a list, please contribute. Thanks everyone.

All google apps expect for playstore or frame service or keyboard I remove the google apps they take space I remove play music movies calendar alarm clock launcher and replace it with nova

I have removed pretty much everything short of the Google framework, HTC Sense, and some of the HTC services (simply because I don't know what they do). I left the clock. I like the clock.

When I had a HTC sensation I removed HTC sense but takes out a lot but there was a lot of development on that phone fast this one kinda standing still so make a back up and remove let us know I don't have root yet but I will

I'm currently in the process of making a non-bloat deodexed, Senseless, rooted stock ROM. I'm literally deodexing all of the system apps as we speak. There's ~390MB of bloatware that can be safely removed (if you don't mind removing Sense/using a different launcher). I might plop out a list later on.

Does anyone know whether the Mobile Installer app is safe to freeze / uninstall? I was looking around on Google for its function, but could not find anything.

not that I'm aware of ... Keep in mind my phone is not activated and is only used as an mp3 player / wifi internet browser

Did you finish your Rom? Does it work with boost?

Bloatware Removal
I am somewhat new the this rooting trend lol. However I got my 510 rooted (boost mobile). I just want to remove bloatware so I can free up some space. However I am not sure how to go about exactly removing it.
I got the kernel for S-Off and some other nice tricks from here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...sprintboost-modded-desire-510-kernel-t2969979
I was reading and found out you can boot the kernel and remove the bloatware and then reboot using the stock kernel again. Which is really all I want. What do you use to remove/unbloat the 510?

Download an app called flashify and backup your current kernel do what you want and flash back. You're limited to 3 flashs per day so go ahead and support the dev if you feel it helped. As far as what is safe to take off, there are reports of things around here so just check around.

I successfully flashed rbheromax's v1 kernel, got the apps and such, and still have S-ON. If you're having trouble with persistent bloatware, that could be why. I'm looking for answers and will reply again if I can get it fixed.

Hi guys,
I foolishly removed the sprint_vowifi apk/odex not realizing it's something I do use on occasion (rarely make phone calls, but recently have been dialing into conference calls for work). Could someone make a backup with titanium and share? I would really appreciate the help.

simple question, is supersu NOT for deleting bloatware? do i have to do all that manually? i tought that was the wole point behind rooting and this useless supersu app.

VVM/My Verizon/Flash 10.2 all for GB (Updated 7/20)

OK, so I'm putting these up all in one place. This way you can stop asking for them in various threads. I'll add others as I discover need to add them.
My Verizon only works on VZW based ROMs.
6/27 Only works with PlainJane v3 AFAIK 6/27. GB ROMs will need to wait for a new base leak most likely.
6/30 Update - Older version works again. Download MyVerizon.apk for the older version that works on most newer ROMs. the com.vzw.hss.myverizon-1.apk will only work on the MR2 based ROMs.
VVM (visual voicemail) - Works on all versions of everything as far as I know. It also fixes the notification issues that people are having with voicemails on bamf roms. (your account must have it enabled for it to work, $3 a month.) - Apparently doesn't work with the Thunderstick ROM or CM7 1.2. Not sure what got changed in this most current build, but it definitely broke VVM. Thunderstick has some conflicting files baked in that break it.
Flash 10.2 edited for use with hulu.com as well. If you don't use it for hulu you won't see any difference. CM7 users rejoice? Just make sure you don't accidentally update it via market or you'll lose in browser flash video again and need to re-install this.
If you're having issues with a particular file, please post what ROM you're running. I'm trying to narrow down possible culprit ROMs.
If these files help you, don't forget about the "Thanks" button
Enjoy.
6/25 - Re-uploaded VVM.apk since a couple people seem to be having issues with it. I even deleted it off my phone and re-downloaded it via this attachment to check to make sure it went through properly. Since there are only the 2 people commenting that it didn't work out of 100+ downloads of the file, I'm going to assume that something happened on your end not mine (make sure you have unknown sources checked in your application settings and/or re-download?), but re-uploaded and tested nonetheless.
6/26 - Had to pull My Verizon due to an update today that breaks it for us. No current working version known for Thunderbolt.
6/27 - Ok, so the structure is there in the MR2 froyo update (plainjane v3) so I'm putting the current apk up. I need to figure out what i need to strip out of MR2 to make it work for other ROMs.
6/29 - Added Skype
6/30 - Changed Skype File location to Fyels.com for more bandwidth.
6/30 - Re-Posted the older My Verizon APK. No idea what VZW is up to on their end, but it no longer prompts for update locking us out. We'll see how long that lasts.
7/5 - Fixed Broken link for skype. Added bold text to netflix description to make it more obvious that it doesn't work on unrooted/froyo phones...
7/8 - Added Flash 10.2 (is also edited for use with hulu.com) for CM7 users.
7/20 - Removed netflix. It is now natively supported.
7/20 - Updated VVM to newer build version.
8/5 - Removed skype. Natively supported.
Good post. Good idea.

Hulu plus is not currently supported on the tbolt (hence i won't put it in the op til then). If you want to mess with it, here's the apk. You can manage queues etc but you cannot play video. You will get a "device not supported yet" type error. You may be able to edit the build.prop to get it running by tricking it into thinking you have a different (supported) device but the idea to this thread is to not hack/edit things to get them working.

At the risk of being accused of threadjacking, somebody saw my post and sent me a link for a MyVerizon app that works on a stock T-Bolt. (Thanks Zinsko!) So in case somebody makes the same mistake as me and wants the same answer, It's here

Tried installing vvm but no dice...tried installing as a apk tried dropping in system app tried renaming it. all I get is app not installed do I need to change permissions?
Anyone have luck with the VVM APK? Can't get it to install at all. Using BAMF 2.1. Tried a straight APK install and just dropping it into the sytem/app folder via root explorer.

And yes, I did change permissions. Would really love to get this working, as I have to use VZW VVM for work. Thanks.
All I do is install it like anything else. Looks like this.
Make sure you have unknown sources checked. I'll reupload it when I get home if people are still having issues. I've installed it on every version of bamf that didn't include integrated Vvm and cm7.

I am very happy that this is thread came out cuz I've been tryin to leave Froyo but those 3 major apps were an issue w/GB and it looks like no more issues. Am on the latest Gingeritis and all those apps work anyway so I'll cnfirm the truth about this thread once I decide to test the other GB roms again. Great thread though OP. Much props to you. If you can somehow make the HTC messaging widget bug leave GB as well, You'd be even more of a hero

[Q] Can't reboot after xposed framework installation!

Hello dudes, I currently use the MIUI V4 ICS 3.22 rom on my galaxy mini. Yesterday I have installed an app called greenify. I wanted to use the hole features of the app so I have installed the Xposed Framework. But after the restart my device is stopping rebooting at the bootanimation. With the deactivation zip on my sd card I could uninstall the framework. How can I bring the framework to work?
Thanks in advance!

Dude!
Should have read the installation instructions beforehand
The Xposed framework is not compatible with miui
Now the only way out, according to me, is by restoring the file system through a nandroid backup.
I'm sorry but no one can help you in any other way.
Not being rude but dude read the whole post before installing anything in your phone.
Other than that I should however tell you that greenery without xposed also works great. Believe me I have used it and still use it.

before you re-flash the whole rom, check if there's an uninstall recovery zip (it should be on your sd)
@TARUN SIDHARTH is "greenery" a different app or you simply use greenify without xposed?!? is it possible to greenify system apps (with a donate version of course)?

Greenery is a standalone app which works great and does exactly what it offers. The xposed framework just empowers it a bit more and makes it a bit more efficient. But even then Its not necessary that you have to install xposed framework for it to work its magic.
And yes to answer your other question you can greenify system apps with it although that's only available in the donate version.
He sure however that you are careful doing that since greenifying the wrong stood can make your system unstable or cause other problems that may interfere in is optimum functioning.

Oh yeah umm.. Most of the startup managers for Android are full of crap... The play store ones atleast coz the Google developers policy doesn't allow such apps which actually work really well in this context... Still don't know how they decide that though. Well whatever if you had xposed then it could have been possible. But even then install gsam battery monitor and note the apps which consume the most system resources. Greenify them if you wish to and then they'll open/consume system resources only when they are active ie you are using them in real time.
That's all I guess

You have a locked bootloader. There is no way around this, no ifs ands or buts. You simply cannot flash custom ROMs or recoveries. That's it, end of story as far as CM, CWM, AOSP and such things are concerned. That being said there is a sort of recovery called SafeStrap which you can use to make nandroid backups, flash mods and STOCK-BASED roms, but it's not a true custom recovery in the sense that we had been used to, because of this locked bootloader nightmare.
So how do I do this and how safe is it

It's perfectly safe as long as you follow the directions. First install BusyBox from the Play Store and run it following the prompts, it's straightforward. Also make sure you don't have Xposed framework installed (if you don't know what that is or aren't sure then you don't have to worry about this detail). Make sure in your settings you allow installation from unknown sources. Download the .apk file from the thread I linked to in my last post (v3.75) and save it somewhere on your phone. Run the apk file on your phone, following the prompts. It's probably a good idea to reboot once the installation is completely done. Note: assuming you install it successfully, at boot your phone is going to show a little unlocked padlock icon saying "custom" with the Samsung logo, this is normal and not to be worried about. Additionally, whenever you boot up, you are going to be brought into the SafeStrap splash screen where you are given the option to boot as normal or enter "recovery". If you leave it be it boots up like normal in about five seconds. I only mention that to make clear, every time you boot up you are given the option to enter "recovery" which is kind of different from CWM, however, you can just let your phone sit for the extra 5 seconds or so and it boots up like normal.
There's a more concise list of directions here however I would recommend against using that specific version because it is outdated.

Sorry for being unclear. Use this set of instructions (where it says HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP? in the first post) but download and use the v3.75 apk file linked to in this post. The sets of instructions are essentially the same, I just thought the older ones were more thorough.
Thanks a lot for your help. U have been very helpful.. what is the best and most stable slot rom I can use.. my issue is this " my s4 active when ever I make or receive calls I don't hear anything through the the phone.. even when I put it on loud speaker it's completely with no sound.. my loud speaker work because my phone rings and plays music.. even when using Skype and Facebook calls I can hear clearly.. only when making normal calls it's soundless.. so I wanted to try a different rom and see if that would solve my issue.."
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm glad I can help you, xda is all about learning and I like to pay it forward. I completely understand your concern with the sound issue, that actually scared me away from installing any roms on my active, I'm still on my stock rom. Unfortunately I can't really tell you much about the few available roms for this device.
I really miss the look and feel of cyanogenmod (loosely referred to as AOSP or stock android), not to mention the performance improvements. That's why I read up and learned how to de-odex the stock ROM, which gives you the ability to then decompile and modify system apps. Somewhat intimidating stuff at first, but I am (maybe was) a total n00b and I'm starting to get the hang of it. If you really want to learn how to hack and mod your phone while stuck on stock rom, this thread will get you started, a majority of the code is the same.
For a couple of easier modifications, replacing the stock touchwiz launcher with another default launcher like NOVA launcher gives you much more control of the look and feel of the homescreens, icons, etc. and I like to use it to disable/tone down screen transition animations, freeing up some system resources. You can use titanium backup to uninstall preloaded system apps that you neither use nor want, again freeing up space on your phone. This is called de-bloating, here's a list of apps safe to remove:
-AllShare ControlShare Service
-AllShare FileShare Service
-Amazon

-Amazon Kindle
-Amazon mp3
-Android Live Wallpapers
-Ant Radio Service

Sorry if the debloat list has Verizon stuff in it, I obviously got it at Verizon S4 thread. You should be perfectly fine removing any AT&T apps, I certainly did haha.
Now that you've got SafeStrap, do yourself a favor and flash this mod. Just download the Galaxy_Mod_Ultimate.zip and install it in SafeStrap recovery. You should see marked battery life improvement within a day.
Works better but I need a rom to install.. and am lost

I know your post is old. But you can flash custom Roms that are touchwiz based, using flash fire.

You're right, I should've been more specific in my wording, although at the time of my post there were no ROMs to flash on this device (even TW-based) that were stable enough for daily driver use

There is though. It's called SickAsHell, it works just fine for me, and has been my daily driver for a while.

I'm aware, I meant when I posted the post you're referencing (11 December 2014) there were no good ROM options available. I'm also using SickAsHell, it just hasn't been out that long, certainly wasn't back in December of 2015, let alone 2014. If you want I can edit that post, I just didn't think anyone used this thread any more

I don't think anyone does. We're reviving a dead thread.

If you would like to try the new version of WizCyan ROM for I537 has been uploaded and you can get it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66216132&postcount=82
Once I get a confirmation that this is working well, I will create a fresh tread for I537.

BlackBerry Mod

THIS IS FOR ANDROID 6.0+ ONLY!!!
This is mod I use on my LG V10.
Package was originally created as an add-on for Eliminater74's Rom.
I just ported it over as a flashable zip for my use but I figured I'd share.
Put zip on your external sd card and flash from twrp.
You will get a few "BlackBerry services not working " in the beginning but they will soon go away after some usage. These apps were on the BlackBerry Priv and are pretty useful especially the Hub. If there are some apps you don't like, just uninstall or freeze with titanium backup.
There is a launcher, contacts, calendar, bbhub, password keeper..... just a bunch of stuff.
Enjoy

Tells me that I need to upgrade the Blackberry Services.
When I can click Yes - it takes me to the Google app store and there says that my device isn't compatible...

Do you use titanium backup? If so, under preferences you can use market doctor to attach app links to play store and that should help. But, j700h is outside the U.S.? That might be the issue but I can't say for sure. Try market doctor and let me know please.
Thanks.

You lost me there. What non- rooted apps?
- Just looked it up. Didn't even know about that page. So did you use the BlackBerry manager as described?

Yes, installed the Blackberry Manager by Colbalt and it lets you install all the apps.
I prefer however downloading the folders from Colbalt (just check one of the previous posts on the thread) and install the apps I like (blackberry hub, calendar and keyboard) -the rest are just average (contacts on MM is way better than that of BB)

If I were you I'd just get Alliance rom or something. Battery life is better and there is no bloat
