[Q] Recommendations for Rooting new AT&T Galaxy S5 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hiya all! I was hoping i could get some advice on your recommended method for rootng my new S5. I havent done a root since i bought my s4 over a year ago, so i wanna get up to speed on current rooting. I already tried the Towelroot and it doesnt work on my phone. Im guessing my phone came preloaded with the update that breaks towelroot. I tried the tricks with changing the number values in Towel by tapping the screen 3 times , but none of them worked, they all say my phone isnt compatible. So id like to know a few things. A: which root method do you wonderful XDA peeps recommend i use? and B: what would u recommend i do to remove all the annoying bloatware and such? Its been a while for me, so i didnt wanna rush headlong into this without getting a professional opinion first. Perhaps theres a good custom Rom i could flash?
Thanks!

Try this be sure to follow it all.

Samsung unlock Bootloader on SM-870A.

Thanks ! That was a breeze! phone has been successfully rooted! Any recommendations on what to use to remove all the bloatware and crap? Im considering trying a custom rom sometime, but for now i at least wanna clean this up and get it running better with more storage space!

Nonroot vs Root

Hey guys, im stuck on deciding whether i should root my note 4 or not. What's really bugging me is that i will trip knox and will it devalue the phone?
Any benefits of rooting it right now? vs nonroot
i've seen some threads of rooting problems with some apps and such and im not sure if i should wait or not. Im coming from a rooted s4 and i kinda miss being rooted. Come on guys post what you think here!

Root if something you want needs it, otherwise there's not any need. Do you need tomatoes? I dunno.

As stated above, root if you have the NEED to root. For me, I got plenty. Smoothness, debloating, batterylife, awesome rooted apps out there (I know..only three reasons.) For others, they need a specific app they need to run on their phones and it will need root.
If non of these are an issue to you, do not root. If you cannot think of a reason to root without having the benefit of root vs non root listed out to you, I will advice you do not root because that tells me you actually do not have the need to root. Make sense?
As far as knox is concern...I will say only trip if if you have no need to send it straight to Samsung while your phone is still functioning. I say this because they will send it right back to you. Now if your phone is fried, how will they check exactly if knox is tripped? The carriers do not care, tmobile do not care. Most of the workers think nova is a rooted app. Thats how much they know about root.
You go to a carrier, simply do not give them a reason to think you are rooted. People like to take a phone with custom roms and custom kernels on there...thats not smart. They boot your phone, a message at the top most left of the phone will tell them you are rooted. Always go to the store with stock ^.^
Hope that helps!
I have the Note 4. I root it about 2 weeks later after I got it. My reason: get ride of all the bloat junk that I dont need; now I can write to my SD card; unlimited hotspot; lean machine and good battery life. Its good to have su access.

Im in the same boat, sorta. Ive always rooted. Everything i had, even the old windows phones. This is the longest ive lasted non rooted. Im getting the itch. My question, if i root, flash twrp, does it erase my data? Not a big deal really, but im on level 110 on ea sports king of the course. Would suck to start over.

Neither rooting nor flashing a recovery will wipe your data. Some phones ship with the unlockable bootloaders and the unlocking process wipes the data (for example, on Google Nexus devices). But the bootloaders on T-Mobile Samsung phones are unlocked by default, so flash away

Rooted is the way to go! Only reason I haven't rooted yet is because I'm waiting for Android 5.0 to drop next month hopefully ! Then I will gladly root. Phone is much better when it is under your control.
ROLL THAT SHT, LIGHT THAT SHT. SMOKKKKE THAT SHT
Those of you who rooted the Note 4, can you confirm if root disables:
Private mode - Possible fix (old fix)
S-Health (maybe only if using Xposed) - Possible fix?
Screen Mirroring (wireless) - Possible fix?
Recording calls (?)
I would want to root mainly to gain access to the external SD card, possibility to enable/disable flight mode using profiles and wouldn't mind about OTA ora Knox 0x01.
But it's annoying to lose those functions for me.
Updated previous post with some links to possible fixes.

I rooted but on a custom ROM and I have zero issues with private mode or S-health. I guess the issue is when you're only rooted on stock ROM. But apparently there's walkarounds for those issues.

Thanks, but actually I was interested on (possible) issues on stock ROM and, most importantly, if the walkarounds really work.

New to the Note!

Hi I am new to the Note 3 forum and have a Att Note 3 on NC2 and want to find out the most recent or easiest way to get root? I had a Lg G3 rooted running custom roms but it got destroyed at work so I had to get something quick that is how I ended up with a Note 3. Anyway I am having a hard time figuring out what is the correct way to get root and flash custom roms. Also any recommendations for apps, themes, roms, etc! There is a ton of info but hard to find out the exact method to root and start flashing but I want to make sure it's done right. Thanks!

here you go and before flashing any roms do some research the note 3 for att is different the bootloader is locked
Hey thanks!
That is Towelroot correct? I am just about to DL and run it but just wanted to be sure that I don't miss any steps. So I just DL and run apk right? Thanks again for the file and anyone who wants to recommend a good ROM for a Note 3 that would be great also!
No root after Towelroot on NC2 and I tried 3 times!
I used Towelroot just as I was supposed to but cant get root or install Busybox. I tried the file that I was given it didnt work and then I seen that there is a new version of Towelroot v3 but it didnt work either. I even tried to disable Knox with SU from play store after Towelroot but it can't not disable Knox. Then I used package disabler to disable Knox and it worked to disable Knox but still can't get root with Towelroot it didn't error or anything it said you should have root now but nope! What the heck am I doing wrong? I am not happy about the future of my Note 3 and I will try something else if someone could help me. My phone is weird cause it does not have a update option at all in about phone settings! Oh boy what have I bought? Seems hard to get help anymore but I guess people are busy these days. Thanks again for any help!
I believe the bootloader is locked which means you can only install tw-based custom ROMs.
According to this thread, nc2 can be rooted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/root-lollipop-att-note-3-safestrap-t3132475

that is strange you might have a fake you could try downloading the stock files and odin flashing them and try to root agian
Thanks for your help.
I found out its a phone from a rental center that had been paid for but they do some kind of a custom edit to settings. So I will probably be able to get it rooted thru my pc just not around it right now. I am not real happy about the fact it isn't completely stock cause like I said there is no option to update in the settings at all. Anyway I will have to wait until I get back home or find another route to root or at least update to lollipop! Thanks and if you are able to help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated!

Updating from 4.4.2 up to 5.1 Lollipop on a unlocked AT&T S5 using Odin

First of all, hi everyone owo/
Well, as the title says, my dad bought two unlocked S5's from Amazon and both of them come from AT&T and we use them here with Personal which is an Argentinian network carrier
Everything works fine, 4G works great, but one of the issues is this one
Since it passed 3 years when KitKat got the latest update (4.4.4, on the phone is 4.4.2 .-.) some apps do not want to upgrade at the Play Store since sometimes on Android when is not upgraded, some apps lose compatibility with the device (On this I doubt, I'm not 100% sure) and I want to ask to you guys if you can help me with steps to at least upgrade my mom's phone and mine (since my dad is getting a new one and gives me his S5) to Lollipop without rooting the device, because here on XDA I saw a post on how to do it but it requires root and I'm not going to do it just to be safe, so I was curious to see if there's a possibility of upgrading the system through Odin, which I do have a little bit of experience (I did have it with an older Sammy phone, not the newest ones) without losing the carrier unlock thing
If you guys can remember there was a code to let you know if the network was unlocked or not but sadly it does not work anymore so I don't have any idea if it is permanent or not other than switching the cards, so my question is, I will lose the unlock if I update the system through Odin??
Also I don't have a AT&T specific SIM card to do the upgrade (Which for me is BS having only the AT&T card to do system updates) and I saw some posts on XDA on how to update it but only I saw the root method to update fom KK to Lolli and I don't want to root it, I want to do it just normally through Odin saving me some time
I'm not against root, is fine but I always prefer a much safer way instead of tinkering with some important system stuff and also I'm new into this forum (And I visited XDA since 2012)
Have a good day
Rodoko (my username is old, so I use this one written here, my account was made in 2013 so... I am unable to modify it u.u )

It is highly suggested that you root with towelroot and upgrade with flashfire. You can't root on Lollipop and you can't downgrade back to KK. May as well root now just in case you ever need it. Root doesn't modify system files on its own, the end-user does that.

Need help unlocking the bootloader of my sm-n9200!

Good afternoon folks. Im a fairly experienced guy as far as rooting and installing custom Rom's go on Samsung Phones. In this case I have POSSIBLY, the Hong Kong version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N9200) and while I was able to get a root on it with King Root..it's not my desired method. I'd really like to ROOT the phone, but I need to first unlock the BOOT-LOADER.
I've tried the CROM-APK but it won't install (I Keep getting "App not installed" every time I attempt it), and to my knowledge, I don't know of any other methods. IF anyone has a SHORT or LONG winded manner of doing this it would be appreciated. I've even tried the ONE-CLICK-ONE-TOUCH all the way around method and that was to no avail as well.
Also does anyone know if this phone is LTE Capable???? Would flashing a custom Rom give me access to that feature?
Any help would be appreciated.

Draining battery, Root, upgrade and a lot of trouble !!!

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie who don't know a lot about root and upgrade.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SN-N900A (AT&T unlocked) and my battery is draining way to much energy.
I looked over the internet and I think it might help if I change my plateform.
So I'd like to root the cellphone but I cannot figure out step by step how to do it.
After rooting, I wonder if it would help to upgrade to marshmallow or nougat without all the draining useless apps from AT&T.
I saw some post about it but I don't know how to use Odin, how to downgrade to android 4 to root or anything else for that matter.
I'm kind of desperate.
Thank you !
The bootloader on this phone is locked and cannot run a custom ROM unless the custom ROM is based on a stock Samsung ROM.
How old is the battery? When did this start happening?
You're not going to like this, but....

mauvaiscell,
You are on a obsolete, dying platform. Your best solution is acquire a new device, if not new at least recent enough to run contemporary software. The latest stock ROM for the Note 3 is several generations behind, and will not be updated. Since many of the later apps no long run on that ROM, or at least not to their full capability, the best answer is get a replacement.
But don't discard your Note 3. Within limitations it is still a beast. Use it to learn about ROMs, apps, etc. You are obviously a smart guy because you know where to look for answers. All you need do is look a bit deeper. All the answers you need are on this forum. Start by reading about SafeStrap, rooting exploits, and custom ROMs. READ, READ, then READ some more. Once you're confident, and have all the tools at your disposal, then start experimenting with your Note 3.
Best of luck.

In tons of forum post that I read so far (as a newbie), this was the most satisfying one ty so much! I'm struggling for 10 days to install a brillant custom rom (ie lineage ) i have only come to try with boot with safestrap recovery and error with it till now.
I gave up tired and the only thing i dont want is a brilliant Rom no longer, it's just an unheated battery.
