[Q] Attempts at changing DPI - HTC Desire 510

anyone have any luck doing this?
Tried editing build.prop directly as well as using programs but it never works and reverts back to 240 on restart
I am unlocked, twrp recovery and rooted. (Virgin Mobile)
*EDIT SOLUTION
So this is what I did
Used this kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...print-virgin-mobile-stock-desire-510-t2958969
But rather than the steps 'fastboot flash boot b.img' I only did fastboot boot b.img'
This temporarily loaded the kernel so that I could have the system editing powers
Deleted the bloat I didn't want among other built in apps I planned on installing anyways so that they were a fresh install rather than upgrade (cleans up a tad bit of space)
Then I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theSushi.dpichanger&hl=en to change the DPI to 200
After all was said and done, I simply restarted the phone (which you have to do to set DPI anyways) and phone was back on stock kernel since I never flashed it, DPI stayed at 200, and bloatware stayed removed!

I used the DPI Changer app from Google Play Store. It allows you to change your DPI, backup your current DPI on your build.prop, as well as restore it if necessary.

Didn't work
Does this require this custom kernel?

Yeah, the kernel that removes write protection. You cannot do much of any modifying, even while the phone is rooted, until you either flash that kernel or get S-OFF

SUCCESS!
No more super huge everything. I set the DPI to 200

all the sense exclusive live wallpapers are broken now btw
*edit 2
Dialer seems fine, as does the settings menu.
I don't use Blinkfeed nor Sense launcher so don't know if those are broken/don't care

Great! I know the text feels a lot less "in your face" now. I set it to about 213 DPI

Solution added to op

Didn't want to bump an old thread but I think I have to after Googling around and not finding my answer. Can this kernel be used on the Canadian Variant Telus? If not then how would I go about acquiring S-Off for the Desire 510? I have it rooted.

I used app set resolution to 720bye 1280 and 320 dpi.works great.

Honeycomb-esque Pandora widget

I made this for myself... it's also in the Vibrant theme forum, but I figured you guys over here may be interested in it.
If anyone has any requests (Perhaps other colors?) I can try to churn those out, might not be at top speed this week (exams! D: ) but I shall try.
Screeny:

As you can see the notification bar Icon is themed also, it's transparent. There's also a themed app icon. And of course, the widget has been themed. It's the latest version of Pandora as of now, I'll try to keep that current too.
Let me know if anyone wants other colors!
Could you make an Orange version?

It would be called Felbridge, it's paid in market.
shanehillsr: Are you rooted? Is unknown sources enabled? Try pushing it to system/app?
cdsbj: I'll get on it ASAP, I just have to take a midterm, write a paper, take some quizzes and do some other assignments.... Expect it by the weekend.

Alternative
If anyone would like an alternative honeycomb-esque one, I released one in the Captivate forums, but I figure I could share here too for anyone who wants to use it (or modify it). Make sure to uninstall any previous version beforehand.
Orange version attached (Here and in OP).
And nicely done Kaik!I like how you did the edges of the inner box... Did you apply a lighter gaussian blur?
I used resources from the xoom dump and modified them instead of attempting to recreate the coloration/effect
Thanks AWESOME!!!

I'm going to say you probably have to use a filemanager to push them to system/app, I don't know how to sign .apk's, or whatever you have to do to make them work with installer.

!!!warning warning warning!!! Dpi change

For everyone bricking their Nexus 7 by changing the build.prop file like I did. download ROM Toolbox Lite to change the dpi settings safely. Ive changed mine several times through the app with no bricking.

If they can't get on the internet with it, it is bricked. Yes, that is what it has come to.
Use to mean:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

}
Do we really need to explain how a bricked device literally mean its a physical brick and is no longer useable. People need to read the terminology forum they have up on this website.

I think I will avoid the dpi changing all together
i'd rather flash a rom with tablet UI baked in. too many bricking their device.
OP made a good suggestion though. I used rom tool previously to modify my Prime build.prop. it seems to be the only app that does it right & safely. plus it makes a backup of your original build.prop. people should be making backups anyway in case something happens and you need to push back the original file.
To be honest, the probably messed it up or something... I've been using build.prop method for the last 48 hours and no issues yet so, not sure if I should really be worried..even if i can't get on the internet I'll just flash back the 4.1 img.
If you get boot loops after changing something in the build.prop, well you messed it up by adding lines that shouldn't be there.
I do things manually because there is no point in downloading some apk to change 3 digits in a .prop file.
My Nexus is on the way. What setting is default and what are yall using? My Incs default is 240 but I run it at 200. I like the higher resolution look. Thanks.
Default = 213
Mine = 160

[MOD]Transparent App Drawer for KK 4.4

I don't like having a solid color for a background when I open my app drawer, and don't really care for any of the third party launchers, so I modified the stock launcher to be transparent. This was created using the stock kitkat launcher so make sure you're on kitkat before attempting to flash. You must be rooted or have CWM installed.

CWM Flashable
Reboot to CWM and flash away.
APK that can be flashed with a root file explorer
With a root file explorer copy Launcher2.apk to /system/priv-app, if it ask's about overwriting proceed with that. After it's been copied set the permission's to rw-, r--, r--. Reboot shield.
Just to be on the safe side before flashing/copying I would make a copy of the stock launcher that way if you want to revert you can. I would either copy the stock launcher to the download folder or copy it to the same folder and then add the file extension .bak, I will eventually be creating a version that includes the stock launcher as well. I hope you enjoy and thanks for downloading!
With the new transparent power menu design, it's a better fit than the original. Nice one

I managed to get it, but it takes like 5 minutes to load the "desktop?" and app drawer... I get stuck on a black screen for 2 minutes, then my wallpaper comes out for 3 minutes and then everything loads, only thing I can use is double tap the home button and drag down the top and mess with settings. Now I must make sure I don't restart my device...

Yes. At first I just kept getting boot loops, then I managed to boot into it and everything started working again, but as I said, long load times the first 5 minutes. I'll probably flash back stock and try all over again.

If you want to do this yourselves.
1st Download and install xposed framework installer to your phone (root needed)
Get it here
Check framework is the latest in framework
.Then in download section of xposed framework search for resflux and install
Or get it here
Then in modules section of xposed enable resflux and reboot
Open reflux and select laboratory
Then click the app you want nodded
Then simply use the up to select and change texts. Colours back rounds etc.
Then to apply . Press back and reboot
Use only png images for back rounds
IL give a more detailed guide when I get to my pc.
Has anyone tried this yet? I just tried and i changed colors of alot of things in gear manager on phone and rebooged has in still phone this same.When i went back into theming app the colors where still changed to what i changed them to but in gear manager they didnt change.I have it checked in exposed so that isnt the problem.Do you need to clear cache of gear manager or whatever app your trying to theme? It seems like a good app if it works rite.
So i just looked on the developers page and it was confirmed working on a few devices and alot of stock roms.I have galaxy s4 with hyperdrive rom so maybe it doesnt work on my phone.

Practical experience is the best lesson: Why don't you give us a typical example with screenshots how you, for example changed background color. Assume that being the easiest to do and good start...Thanks!

[Bootanimation] Marvel/DC Superhero HD

British graphic designer Christian Tailor created this animation of stylized Marvel and DC Comics heroes and villains, and now you can use it as the boot animation on your Android device.
Christian works as a motion Graphic Designer specializing in information graphics, and his current clients include Al Jazeera and UK-based TV network ITV.
Graphic designer and Android theme maker Brian Roberts took Christian’s animation and turned it into a boot animation, originally.
I have resized it for the Nexus 6 (Shamu)
