[SOLVED] Overclock over 2.89GHz - possible? - Xperia Z3 Developer Discussion [Developers Only]

Hello,
I'm making custom kernel for Z3 and Z3 Compact,
and I tried to get overclock to 3.0GHz.
I edited msm8974pro.dtsi according to Faux123's commit
and also edited msm8974.dtsi in this commit (later I changed to 3.2GHz but didn't changed).
"3033600" should be appeared in CPU freq,
but all I get was "2899200", which I didn't write in the code.
Strangely, there is 3033MHz in CPU voltage adjustment.

Is this hardware limit, or software limit which we can break?
I don't really need 3.0GHz, but I want to know the limit.
[EDIT]
Now there is possibility for over 2.89Ghz!
Thanks flar2's patch.

I'm not really sure it regards to the above. However, due to overclocking PC hardware myself, there is always a synthetic limit.
For example:
Some devices will be able to reach higher clocks than others.

How do other Snapdragon 801 devices perform, LG G3, Moto X 2014? Take that as benchmark.

This is the LP Kernel Repo. I also added GPU OC in case you care, just check the commits
Actually the 2.89GHz Value should be 3GHz, as it also get's refered to on the Voltage Table in Faux Clock (3033MHz) but the Clock only goes up to 2899,2MHz. Don't know what this is related to.
BTW: The main work for this was done by @faux123 for the HTC One M8, I just adopted it for the Z2 @AndroPlus Let me know when you found a solution, I am glad to fix this for the Z2 too.

Now I found solution of flar2's commit!
We can go over 2.89Ghz... but it's not stable.

Could someone explain to me what the third value in < 2265600000 1120000 738 >; in msm8974.dtsi means and how this third value is calculated? Thanks in advantage

Do you know if it modifies kernel or interferes with setCPU?
I sent them a message about it, let's see what they say.
No it don't mess with kernel, I also don't think it adjust cpu frequency as I think it would need root permission, which this app don't require.
Sent from my HTC One X
yepp, I installed it, and looks like what it does is that it organises when apps connect for sync and update, which sounds really good, and others don't do that.
yep, they said:
Thank you for your enquiry.
BatteryGuru does not modify the kernel or CPU settings in and way.

[Q] Important CPU governor question to those with rooted HTC One

Guys with a rooted HTC One, please confirm what CPU governors are supplied by default on the device also what IO schedulers
ie: ondemand, interactive etc...
there should be an MSM-DCVS governor which would bring the most performance out of the device
please confirm
you can find out by apps like SetCPU, trickster mod and system tuner

yes it doesn't mean much
GL benchmark already demands full performance regardless of the governor, unlike 99% of games which require CPU governor change to prevent fps stalls usually caused by ondemand governor
but i was still kinda hoping...
anyway many thanks mate, very helpful :good:
more info here
Seems like the fps is locked down on 34fps on kernel level. If this was the maximum the gpu could provide it should fluctuate to lower or sometimes higher score instead of giving a consistent 34fps score.

Screen color temperature

Is there a mod or a kernel to flash that allows to change the color screen temperature? Mine is a little too warm and i'd like to became more cold.

With CyanogenMod 10.1.2 I could change the colour temperature, but with 10.2 I just can't find that setting anymore. Was it removed and is there a way?
If not, that app is good? I read Chainfire3D, but it's for older android versions.

Faux kernel, if you mean this

Is there a smaller and more specific app? Faux kernel does a load of things, which explains the price, not worth buying if all you need is to make your screen slightly colder in temperature.
Can't believe it is so hard to find this. Like I could not believe nobody ever seemed to have made a Galaxy S3 analogue clock widget.

I don't know mate.
Fauxclock is built for faux kernel in advance, but probably is compatible with a lot of kernel.
However, try to search on the play store or here on xda.
p.s. The kernel have to support this feature too
Latest ElementalX-Versions support changing colors, best is to read the last pages as some spotted this topic. Faux's Kernel Tuner was the only mentioned app though for changing the colours AFAIR..

8.4 do not have hmp

just wonder about that.
some say exynos 5420 support hmp by theory, yet samsung disable it, while 5422 / 5430 / 5433 support in reality.
i check it by cpuz, it clearly shows cluster switch and only 4 cores can be use at the same time.
5433 (note 4)

5430 (samsung alpha)
5422 (ODROID-XU3 Lite System)
5420 (note3)
even note3 get lollipop update, kernel is still a 3.49, no hmp will be given, it shows only linux about 3.10 can support hmp.
and i don't think samsung will update kernel for us.
Heat and battery-life wise I do not reckon they would enable this.

Ah this conversation again. The exynos5420 was supposed to support hmp but ended up being broken and as such will never work. Sorry guys.
Yep. According to AndreiLux it is impossible to be implemented for our Exynos5420. He has stated the exact reasons why in various posts on the Web.
I have seen evidence of working HMP on Samsung Exynos5420 at one of the developer shows a year or so back though, but doesn't necessarily mean a software patch will make it work here. Hardware needs work too, which we can't change. ...
CPU-z
i just noticed something else wrong with my galaxy tab s 8.4 the CPU-Z info "http://i.cubeupload.com/3LpKj0.png" the exynos 5420 suppose to be with 4 slow cores at 1.5 and 4 fast cores at 1.9 but on this info from CPU-z it shows them all as 1.9 somehow , and also here "http://i.cubeupload.com/vUgZnP.png" it shows the screen dpi 320 instead of 359 . is it the same on your device as well ? can you share any screenshots or info thanks im using CPU-z 1.1 btw

Undervolting and Kernel Settings Discussion

I've been wondering about what to expect when undervolting. There's only one kernel for this phone that I know of, the Render one; if there are more, feel free to point them out. Additionally, what kind of global offsets can I expect, and what are your settings?

Does anybody tried undervolting yet ? Is it worth to play around with lower values and save some juice or not ?

i've tryed to set lower voltage setting via kernel auditor on custom Krait kernel but, as i think, had random reboots while CPU loading growed up in short time...
Still testing on new kernel build

No undervolting but try interative governor tweaks. There is a guide how to in Nexus 5X general.
