[Q] Use Sprint Prepaid Desire 510 on Ting - HTC Desire 510

AFAIK, the HTC Desire 510 (Sprint Prepaid version) is locked from use on other carriers until at least fall 2015. My question is - With unlocked bootloader, root, custom recovery, etc., is there anything that can be done to get this phone activated on a Ting account (they use the Sprint network)? Or is it just impossible because the ESN/MEID is blacklisted for the first year? I don't know how any of that works, so thanks for the advice.
Edit: Should have put a question mark in that title. Apologies for any confusion.

I have not found a way to get that done, and I've been trying for about 3 weeks. Sprint refuses to unlock the ESN because the phone was not active on Sprint prepaid for at least a year.

AT&T in the UK

Hi there guys, was wondering if I was to purchase an AT&T HTC One 64gb developers edition from the US to use in the UK would it work with my UK t-mobile sim or would I need to root the phone?
Also how easy is it to root the htc one, I rooted my htc sensation is it easier than that??
Thanks
I 'think' that if you r00t it you will unlock it also, I might be wrong though and I can't remember if that's right or not.
Look up on 'debranding', to see if rooting will help you on that.
---
For a rooting guide see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
Thx for the speedy reply, yeah dont mind rooting the device but just wanted to be sure that that would actually work on a US AT&T version of the htc one in the UK with a t-mobile sim? Has anyone already tried this?
thanks
Nonononono. Rooting does not SIM unlock your phone. Unlocking your bootloader does not SIM unlock your phone. SIM unlocking your phone, however, does.
If you purchase the AT&T model from AT&T, you will be SIM locked and will either A) have to sweet talk them into unlocking it or B) Pay someone to unlock it(there's a great thread of resources for that in the General section). If you purchase the Developers Edition(or any edition) from HTC, it will already be SIM unlocked and should work just fine on any GSM network in the world. There is no AT&T Developers Edition.
EDIT: As far as the difficulty goes, it's pretty easy to root the HTC One. There's a couple of annoying steps you have to repeat before the process is done(i.e. flashing recovery/rebooting several times until it sticks)

I'm pretty sure that you can Sim unlock yourself once you're rooted.
Never done it myself however so might be wrong.

Not on the HTC One, no.
At least, no one has discovered a way to do it. This is XDA we're talking about here, where there's a will there's a hack.
Ah guys, thanks so much for the replies, I'll wait for a developers edition to turn up on ebay. This all came up because I'm tired of waiting for the 64gb version in the UK (if it ever arrives???) and it looks like its cheaper to import from the US (even with import charges).....
I take it the Developer Unlocked Edition just comes with stock android with HTC sense 5 ui???
Thanks again

yes it does;
This special HTC One® Developer Edition comes with: 64GB of onboard memory, SIM unlocked and has an unlocked bootloader. Compatible on these frequencies:
HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)
It doesn't have an unlocked bootloader, it has an unlockable bootloader. Just like every other network version of the phone has apart from AT&T. That is why HTC are selling it. Also a phone can be sim unlocked without the phone being rooted, as it is completely different. Unlocking the bootloader and then rooting it, wont sim unlock the phone, it will just allow the user to run unauthorized roms etc. Also if you got an AT&T phone from them, you wouldn't get OTA's from HTC they would come from AT&T as the CID wouldn't be a HTC one.
OK guys thanks for the replies, but now this is slightly confusing, so just to be crystal clear if I was to purchase a HTC One 64gb Developers edition from the US to the UK, and rooted it and installed my own rom etc, would this work in the UK or would I need to root the phone and sim unlock it aswell, or will rooting the phone do that for me anyway.....apologies for all the questions, just want to be sure as I've on;y ever rooted my HTC Sensation
Thanks again

OK to clarify - the HTC One DEVELOPERS EDITION will work on any UK network without any tinkering/rooting etc as it is SIM unlocked.
Any other USA model will be SIM locked and you will need to pay about £20 to get it unlocked for (UK) SIM cards. This has nothing to do with Rooting or which Rom you use. Stock will be fine.
2/3G should work, 4G won't tho
Great thanks for clearing that up guys
Hi guys, new question about something similar.....just seen a htc one that interests me, but the guy is saying it's AT&T Unlocked and will work in the UK.....is that even possible?
Thanks

That depends, you see, i have an HTC ONE - US international version, but in my country 3G works in 900mhz, and the factory unlocked i have has 850mhz so im stuck without 3G. In England they use 900mhz so i would need one from there, and yours, which is the same as mine only locked to ATT, will not work on 3G in UK, since they are 900mhz. 2G will work there btw.

Just to clarify, what do you mean by you "unlocked" it. How did you do this? I'm pretty sure the only way to unlock our Ones is by going through sprint. Also if you do use it on ATT you won't get LTE because they have different LTE bands than sprint.

i unlocked it through a sprint all in one kit, maybe this was just for rooting it, but anyway I was justtrying to figure out if there was a wat to get my htc one on att, I'm not worried about the lte.

Ok, if you used the All In One toolkit then yes you are just rooted. To get your phone unlocked you will have to directly contact sprint!
Note also that in the US, depending on the location, AT&T operates on some combination of two 3G bands and two 4G bands. Of these four hi-speed data bands, the Sprint HTC One variant only supports one band. Therefore, even if you get the phone unlocked and working on AT&T, its data performance may not be all that great.

HTC One PagePlus and Unlock questions.

I just destroyed my HTC EVO LTE.. I was thinking of replacing it with an HTC One, but I have a couple of questions. Most threads I have read on these subjects are on a less basic level, and I need to get a grasp on the basics.
I have been seeing a lot of discussion about SIM unlocking and I am a little confused if I even need to do that. If I get a Sprint HTC One and reflash it to PP, I only need the boot loader unlocked right? If I unlock the SIM thats just for international calls on GSM networks, correct? My EVO LTE was pretty easy and I hear that the One is similar. As far as unlocking the boot loader, does HTC still send you the code through their developer portal? Is it difficult to root and get custom ROMs onto? It would be nice to get the SIM unlocked in case I travel out of country but its not high on my list. Since I am not a Sprint customer I doubt they would give me the code if I begged them.
Thank you for any help you can provide me.

if u wanna flash it to pageplus, u can do that without unlock bootloader or anything. just change PRL and DATA configuration "data profile, HA,AAA"..... also its very easy to s-off and unlock the bootloader, to install custom roms....... i had HTC ONE, i flashed it to verizon and unlocked it to T-mobile too at the same time.....
see this is my post after i unlocked it to t-mobile

[Q] USe Sprint HTC One (M7) On Verizon Network?

I haven't been up to date on flashing and switching carriers in a few years, I used to do it all the time.
My girlfriend broke here phone (Verizon Contract) and needed a new phone, we got a good deal on a HTC One (m7) Model No: HTC PN072. And purchased it.
I thought it was still be the same old flash the radios call Verizon and keep asking for new people until I get someone who can offer to activate. Now I am looking for an unlock tool and all I can find is GSM SIM unlockers, and can't find the right Verizon Radios for this phone.
My girlfriend is pissed because now she doesn't have a phone and we just spent money on this new phone. Am I SOL? Or is there a thread somewhere that my googfu just can't find?

i tried to do this for a phone for mom. it doesnt matter what you do with the phone- verizon has white lists now. if they dont have the ESN in their system, they WILL NOT activate it. you have a sprint ESN, so you will never activate that on verizon no matter how many times you call them.
sucks, i know. I had to buy a verizon m7.
It can be done using a donor phone the same way you would fllash a phone to metropcs. you can find plenty of tutorials online just replace everything metro with sprint.
Any luck on this? I have a Sprint HTC One M8 that I wish to bring over to Verizon. I'm not new to changing ESNs and I understand the legal ramifications of using a service that is unpaid for, so that aside, I'm paying for the service. I had bought the phone intending to switch to Ting, but the IMEI is locked to Sprint for one year from release. I have until April when that gets unlocked, so I figured to use it without the SIM card, since that's what allows 4G LTE usage on CDMA phones, at least from what I am told by people and the phone (once I removed the SIM card it started giving me that message). Hell I'm ok disabling data altogether, but as long as I can make calls and text, I'm jolly.
You could flash them to pageplus although I think they only have 3g.
Pageplus has 4G albeit at a reduced speed but effective 1/15/2015 they will not accept flashed phones anymore

This is illegal and not appropriate conversation on XDA. It's out there though, although I've only seen people flashing phones from Verizon to Page Plus or Sprint to Virgin or Boost. Never seen Sprint to Verizon or vice versa.
I was under the impression that Sprint and Verizon use different signal frequencies, and that the radios installed by HTC during build were specific to the frequency. Yes, they are both CDMA, but different frequencies.

[UNLOCK] What to do now?

Hi everyone,
i got a Sprint HTC One M8 from ebay, it is new but i was planning to use it on AT&T network, since it have a Sim Card Slot. Furthermore, even though i'm living on the US now, i'm from Brazil and i was planning to use the phone there as well.
And now starts the problem.
I called the previous owner, asked him to contact sprint to make the sim unlock procedure. He did so, providing me the MSL for the phone. The next step, he said, was to "flash" the phone on AT&T in order to get it connected to their network. I tried several sims, even bought a new one and activated it but with no success.
I spend almost 2 hours on the phone with the sprint's international support, and all they said was that they did everything that they could about unlocking my phone and now i should contact AT&T.
I'm afraid of staying on this infinite loop and i want your opinion.
Does anyone in fact unlocked their SPRINT phone to use on another GSM US carrier? If yes, what did you do? Because i'm planning to return the phone and ask for my money back.
BUT, with the "International Unlock" i should be able to use the phone on ANY international carrier? Because if that is the case, maybe i keep the phone to use when i go back to Brazil.
Thank you very much!

On the CDMA version of the M8, it lacks the LTE bands needed for Domestic carriers. You can use it overseas somewhat, but not too well. If I was you, I'd grab a Droid Turbo for ~$200-$250 off eBay. It just recently got its bootloader unlocked finally
