Curious about Screen shots and such - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious, is there a way or an app, or a script or something to have the ability to just have screen shots, downloaded pics and what not to save to your external SD card by default? I usually have about 100+ that I have to manually move every time I flash a rom..

Just curious as to why you move them. Are you wiping internal storage when you flash?
Check out the Xposed module Downloads2SD.

No I don't wipe that, but it's my fearful OCD that my phone will just up and die and I will lose my SS's. I really hate using the "cloud". Don't trust that crap that much.

So use two clouds. It is very unlikely they will fail at the same time plus it will automatically synchronize with your pc. Dropbox gives 50 gig for new note users, google drive another couple gigs, same microsoft, Amazon, box, samsung cloud. SD card can fail too.

not really a huge fan of the cloud for pics and screen shots. Maybe small apps that can be redownloaded..

SD cards and internal will fail before the cloud does. You can't make the horse drink the water lol.

meh, it's not about the "horse" drinking water. It's is simply about seeing if there was something out there that would allow me to just have my screen shots and downloaded pics go directly to my SD card. It's my choice not to use the cloud. Personal reasons. Hence why I am here asking for some app or something.

Screw the cloud. I'm old Skool too. Now where's mg 5.25 inch floppy.

External sd filled with crap

I was in class, pulled out my captivate, went to look at some pictures. They werent there. Got me curiois so I went into the file explorer to see what was up. My external sd no longer has any understandable files on it. All of my photos, music, videos ANYTHING are not there. It has all been replaced with gibberish, random letters, numbers and symbols. The only file still there is LOST.DIR, and it too is filled with nothing but numbers from 4 to 94xxx.
WHAT HAPPENED? Please offer some advice if you can. I had lots of very special pictures from deployment and my wedding on that card.
Im running Cog 2.2 beta 8.1, using oclf. The only two things really done to the phone.
Ive noticed over the last few days, recently installed apps would disappear, id download them again and the data/progress would still be there.
Please help of you can, can the files be recovered? What happened? How do I prevent it from happening again?

Sounds like your card is bad. Did you leave it in while flashing your phone? That can cause an issue.
If your PC has a card reader and you have an adapter for it you may be able to recover some of your stuff.

I was worried that may be the problem. Any suggestions on a good recovery program. Dont care if I have to pay, these files are priceless

I wish I knew. Do you have a card reader on your PC? I think you should be able to just view what is on it when inserted into your PC with an adapter, it should be visable as a drive, just browse it. I am not 100% certain of the process for restoration.

[Q] Possible to partition the internal storage

Why? What do you want to do?
Just so use to have to storage locations that's all figured split it in half
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
It's probably possible. Not sure if it would be possible for the phone to read both partitions though.

I'm wondering if it already is. If there's pictures on my phone, and I need to reflash it, I would hope they would be saved to another partition so that I don't have to go through and back up all the stuff I want to keep.

There's a difference between the internal memory partition and the emmc. On my wife's NS4G it's the same. Anything on the emmc is not touched and the internal memory is flashed over.

So then there are 2 different storage points in the device, or the main storage is partitioned to be 2? If that's the case, then we should have access to all 32GB of storage, right? I'm pretty sure I'm wrong though.

According to pdadb.net the Sprint 32gb has 2gb of RAM and 29.7gb ROM. I bet around 4gb of that is for OS and Data and the remaining 25gb is accessible as storage.
I've got at least 16gb of music now on my 32gb SD and with backups, ROMs, and pictures have about 2-4gb available at anytime. My photos auto upload to Dropbox so I will probably get in that habit for other files.
I think with Google Play you can stream your cloud stored music to your phone. Does anyone know if there is a way to do that with the HTC Music player in Sense 5?

Probably not through the Music Player on Sense, but I use Google Play Music frequently. I've uploaded all of the music I have to it, and stream everything from there. Really the only stuff I have on my phone otherwise is pictures and a couple movies. And considering I have a 16GB card in my EVO 4G LTE, the additional space won't really worry me.

Sd card is useless, HELP!!!!

Hello, I've just got my Xperia z1 and I've got a 32gb sd card. However I can't use it as nothing can be transferred even my video unlimited films which take up 6-7gb. Please help me transfer these I can't do it with a file manger
Thanks
I'm pretty sure there is a option in the the movies app for storing video unlimited on the sd card however I'm not sure if you can transfer ones you have already downloaded. You may have to re-download them

Ok sorted it. I just went into album, clicked the 3 dots and it said details. From there I just used the location to find it in astro file manger then moved them. Thanks a lot for the reply though

[Q] Best Way to Backup or Transfer Files?

A couple of days ago my phones free space got down to 1.5GB and I figured I should back it up to free some space. What a pain it turned out to be!
As most of you know we can only transfer as MTP and PTP and I presume this is where most of the problems come from..
1. File identification is slooooww.
2. transfer time literally freezes at the initial transfer to my HDD. making it impossible to drag and drop another set of files
3. I dont believe all of the files were discoverable (aka hidden)
Please post any and all methods/apps/MODS etc. that may help in this kind of process! Thank you.
p.s. I am using Windows 8

I've found it easiest to take out the MicroSD card and put it in an adapter and put it in my laptop or desktop and push files to and from it. Works a TON faster than using the USB cable to the phone.
Assuming everything is on the external SD card.
For anything internal, adb root, then adb pull everything you want. (Make sure the phone is plugged into the original AC charger - it's going to take a while if you pull a lot of files.)
1.5GB left? And I thought I was a software junkie. I still have 23GB free (internal), and there's still loads of stuff I installed to find out why someone was having a problem and haven't uninstalled yet.
For me i only use cabe conection to use odin. For transfearing files i use mmc card reader. Very easy.

Okay. But what if I want to transfer directly from the internal memory? I only just put in an mSD card since the phone got full. Do you push everything from internal to SD then take the SD out and put it in a PC?

I posted a similar question. I used an app called USB switcher on my original Note. I'm waiting to see if it's compatible with the Note 3.

Can't move apps to sd card?

Is it true with kitkat u can't move apps to your sd card? If so then what is even the point of using an sd card? Just pics and movies? Which with 50gb of google drive u don't even need that, correct?
My #1 for an sd card is music storage. Finally, I can have a larger local library that doesn't need to be streamed.

And image backups
I still have the Evo LTE, and I will get the M8 eventually. I use my SD card to store my pictures, music, Titanium Backup folder, TWRP backups, and my very organized "Aaaaaa" folder. (For the record, I gave it that name so that it will be on the top of the list of every file manager, and especially for recovery mode. Coming from the days of the OG Evo, I didn't like clicking the volume buttons so many times.)
The better question is, why do you want to move your apps to the SD card? You have ample app space. Besides, the apps would only be moved to the internal SD, anyway. At least that's how the Evo LTE handled it.
As for Google Drive, that's only good when you have a data connection. I don't want to sort through my list of files named IMG1005-IMG1203 to find one picture, when I can use the stock gallery and get a beautiful preview. Also useless if you are on a plane with no wifi.

Even though this device has 32GB internal storage, so it's likely unneeded, you can still move apps to (external) SD card, using the built in functionality, for apps that support it.
It is possible to move apps! Go into Setting select Apps and pick a downloaded app scroll down till you see a button that says move...I did this to all my large games

That's good. But why?
For those of you who already have your M8, does it allow you to move google music/video files to the SD Card? I could do it on my old LTE but obviously didn't have an SD card for my M7.
This allows you the best of both worlds if you use something like Google Music/Movies, you can stream when you have connection, but can store specific playlists/movies and not have it clog up your memory if you can move it to the larger SD card.

25gb of storage isn't a lot when when some games are 2gb...One thing I hated with my OG one is having to delete a game just to install another game.
I get downtime at work and use entertainment to pass time

Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification.
Well, I can't get my Titanium Backup app to backup to my SD card. It is "interrupted" with insufficient space. However, there is 23GB's.
Bad SD card?
File Transfer
Soooo I may have overlooked it (although I highly doubt it) but, is there a native file viewer on the M8 that will allow us to transfer files to the SD Card? Perhaps an apk from an old HTC "my files" app or something? I guess I can wait for a ROM with those restrictions removed but I'm impatient...
