[Q] Group Contacts and Messaging missing - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone else having issue trying to do group messaging from your contacts? Before I upgraded to the Nexus 6 from the Note 2, I would go into my contacts (or Messages) and Select a group contact Like "362nd Soldiers" or "Coworkers" and be able to send a message to that group of people without having to manually select each and every person. I also noticed in messages, when I click on attach it goes straight to my camera and does not allow me to select another contact to send info or perhaps a pdf or excel file or an email link. This is vital in all facets of my life, reserves and my civilian job. I do not want to have to download an app for such a basic function that was pretty much automatic in all other phones. Am I missing something on how to do these basic functions or do I just need to get a different phone?
I tried searching the forums but I get anything other that what I am searching for and I have to go back to the main page of the forum and search Nexus 6 and go back to the main forums each time as well. The search function here is horrible and forget trying just to go right back to where you were. So I apologize if this question has already been answered.

Tip: Easy sending of SMS to multiple contacts with a few clicks

I've been looking for a program that could send SMSes to lists, like forward an important SMS to colleagues, jokes to friends etc. The cases are numerous. But even after having created custom categories and assigned them to each contact, there still didn't seem a way to use the categories for this purpose.
But I found Group SMS 1.4.1 over on softonic that adds a menu item "Add Group" which lists the categories that exist in the contact list, and lets you check which you want to add people from. On the next screen you remove checkmarks from those in those categories that you dont want to be added.
Very helpful, I hope it comes in handy for someone else.
Hey Shen why did you not post this just one day earlier. Yesterday was our Eid Festival and I was scrolling through my list of around 400 contacts selecting one by one whom to pick and whom to leave out while sending out "Eid Greetings" message. It took me kind of 45 minutes for just that. You know I really cursed MS for not building into their operating system something as basic as this. So well done I have not tried this yet but I am sure this is what I need.
Yeah I know how annoying that was But I had just found out about that program an hour before I posted here
yeah its a great app used it on my hermes as well to text my team, didn't know there was the add group function on my contacts list when i installed it until last week. Just by chance i found it.
It sure was frustrating when I didn't find any "Send to list" or "Send to group" option when i tried adding recipients for the first time.
Anyone know if theres any app for the TyTN II that combines group sms with disctintive sms sounds?

Problem with SMS-Chat Program made by VITO

Ok I searched and didn't find anything so I'm posting here. Ok I purchased the program from iwindowsmobile.com called SMS chat. I like the program but for some reason it messed up my SMS messages. I would send some and they wouldn't send and also had problems receiving some. I uninstalled program and problems went away. I liked the program alot because of a clean interface but one thing I hated was that I would get weblinks sent to me from friends and the program did not allow me to copy the link or click on the link. I find that very annoying since people at work always send me links to different sites. Has anyone figured out a hack to get this working?
I am also going to add that I tried contacting the company, didn't work. I also tried to go into their FAQ section and there is no section. It keeps me at the same page. You would think copy and paste be something basic they'd include in the program.
Yeah..I use this app too. Those sms with links have to open through normal text messaging in the smschat folder, open normally and the link can be activated. Long way...emmm
i am also having issues with vito sms chat. im not sure if it is hardware or software related. it is only allowing me to send messages to one contact. whichever contact i select to message first, that is the only contact i can message. any others that i try to message after, it tells me "your text message cannot be sent" but when using the winMo sms, i have no issues. any ideas?
Hey guys the official Vito chat forumn for vito sms is found here: http://www.technologyatplay.com/main/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=165
Some or all your issues have been addressed at this link. I can definitely attest to the problem with opening links has been addressed. As you may be aware they're already on version 1.3 which has fixed quite a few issues. If your problem has not been addressed drop a line at the above address and within a day or two VitoI will answer your questions or at least address them

[Q] remove message logging?

Has anyone yet figured out a way to not have the Captivate log every single text and call you make?
It is so annoying to have to hunt all through my phone looking for tracks. Originally I assumed that they could be erased by deleting the thread in messaging. Wrong!
So then go to the contact/history and delete it there. Wrong! There is nothing in the history tab.
So then open the dialer, go to call log and look, every sent and recieved text, mms, and call is logged there as well. Its like a paranoid secret agent designed this system.
And heaven forbid that you installed a second messaging program such as Handcent to log everything all over again.
I currently use Horizon to keep my private texts private, but even that allows the outgoing texts to be logged.
Yes, deleting the thread, then selecting every individual item in the log from the unwanted caller works. Or even deleting the entire call log at once will work. But short of that has anyone come up with a work around for the call logging intrusion?
Found "Not log this call" on the market to auto delete phone calls log (Not free).
For sms you can edit the text message limit and reduce it to 1. This will at least keep 1 text message in store before it gets deleted. But default it's set to 200 msg per conversation and 20 mms per conversation.
Interesting. I looked at that app, I may have to try it.
Did you actually get your message inbox to go to 1? Mine will only go down to 10.
I am currently testing it to see if it erases the call log history as it erases the inbox but I dont think it does.
Ok, so setting the message limit to 10 only deletes the messages, not the logs.
However, while playing with it I found out that by selecting one of the logged entries (text or call) it pulls up a history type page. From there you can select the bottom left soft key, choose delete and then choose select all. I am not sure but I think it only deletes one page at a time or something as it seems to leave a few behind. I am still playing but its a hell of a lot better that trying to select each individual log in the main log screen. Its sort of what you would expect the history tab in the contact screen to do. (especially if you came from WinMo )
I hope someone else finds this helpful. I did a lot of searching and found a lot of complaints about this awful "feature" but no answers. This isnt much of an answer but its seems a bit more tolerable since I figured the history part out.
It also seems to be something Samsung adds as Evo and the Droid don't do it.
Check out HistoryEraser. I think I saw it on Lifehacker a few days ago, supposed to wipe away all your unwanted tracks.

Contacts application issues

I've been trying to solve this for some time without success. Due to the way Android merges contacts and my fetish for flashing new ROMs, I frequently find that I need to search my contacts by phone number or area code. Does anyone know if there is a way to search like this?
I need to do the research on the contact merging when I am back on the big screen. Last I saw was that everyone acknowledged that the merging was a problem with no solution other than something like Titanium backup.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Dialer One supports this kind of search.
I tried Dialer One and it doesn't really support what I want to do. I often find that I need to search for all contacts in a given area code or I only remember part of a phone number or I want to search by any other information stored in a person's contact (email, city, state,...).
It's just hard to believe that Google being the Android creator and such a power in search has such lousy contact search capabilities.
Any other suggestions?
Rick

[Q] SMS Forwarding

Is there an app available that will allow you to forward a received SMS thread from one phone to another.
I have spent hours on Google Play and there are tons of "forwarding" apps but they are "all or nothing". In other words, they will send all incoming sms messages from one phone to another, but I want to forward a thread that I have already received from my phone to someone else. Kind of like forwarding an email. I know I can open the thread, long press on a text message and forward just that text, but I want to be able to forward the entire thread. Is that even possible?

Click to collapse
I know it used to be possible but duno anymore. I did a little search but couldn't come up with much. In the mean time, you could delete all the other threads and use the ''all or nothing'' app? Just an idea.
I'll post back if I find more.
