[Q] Broke my proximity sensor, is there a way to disbale it ? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped my Moto X and suddenly, the proxmity sensor is not working anymore.
It is really annoying during phone calls where the screen stays off. I enabled the "power button ends call" option to circumvent this, but still, I cannot use my phone during call.
It there a way to disbale the proxmity sensor ?
Also, active display doesn't work anymore. Is there a hack to use the light sensor instead for the moto active display ?
Thanks

There is an app in the app store that will disable the proximity sensor. Just look for it.

proximity sensor problems

my screen seems to randomly turn itself on and off during calls and I sometimes press a few buttons and even close the call. and it's a bit embarrassing to admit that my phone has a problem. does anyone have a fix for it? I'm currently on jpk
end calls should not happen
the proximity sensor automatically turns off the screen to prevent accidental touch to the buttons
it takes about 1/2 second to react
if you talk normally it should never light up for you to accidentally touch the buttons
but if you keep checking why the screen is on/off on/off
that will drive the screen / sensor crazy
it was like that for me the first day
i was rather annoyed that the screen always turned off, i wanted to disable that feature, but now that i got used to it i find it rather useful to prevent accidental drop calls
personally i browse and write notes a lot during a phone call to look up info and take down customer orders
so having the screen on/off automatically was a pain in the royal highness, but i found a great solution
switch to BT headset whenever i need to check for info and browse on the phone, then it wont go on/off automtically as it's not near my face
thanks for the info!
This is a very common problem caused by positioning sensor overriding proximity sensor when the phone is placed horizontally or close to it. So if you tilt your head during a call the screen will turn on and you could disconnect/place on hold etc. I saw this feature/feature was fixed for other devices by adding an option to disable positioning sensor in calls (changing dialer.apk file), but could not find anything for i9000

[Q] Proximity sensor not working reliably

Hi everyone,
I have a French Moto X 2014 newly updated to Lollipop and the proximity sensor has some issues.
I received the phone recently so I updated the phone immediately to 5.0. I can't say if the problem was there with 4.4.4.
The issue :
During calls, the proximity sensor works normally except when I call my voice mailbox. And especially when the dialpad is on-screen. The proximity sensor is then less sensitive and sometimes does not work at all : the screen stays on even if I completely cover the sensor.
On other calls, the proximity sensor is fast and reliable, the screen shuts down from farther than when I call my voice mail.
It's a really weird issue and I wonder if someone has this problem also.
Thanks
I think this is normal. This happens to me with my nexus 5 and on the moto x (when I had it) when I use the visual voicemail app. I don't think its a problem with the phone.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah it happens to me too, but it happens no matter who I'm calling. Sometimes when I pull the phone away from my ear the notification shade is down or I'm in the clock app (presumably by way of Chronus which is my main home screen widget). I think it is a bug in android and not with the phone itself because like the poster above me stated, it also happens with my Nexus 5. Both my X and N5 are on 4.4.4.
Thanks guys for the info. It's kind of annoying though. I archived a message involuntarily with my cheek by clicking the dialer and it's a charged service... I'll be more cautious in the future.

[Help] Disable Proximity Sensor on Lollipop

using Candy's rom (lollipop) with multirom. my display was cracked few days back & now replaced with another one. proximity sensor causing some issues. it works but problem is that when I make a call, taking phone near the ear turns off the display. But never turns on until the call ends, whether I take it far from ear or press lock or volume button. I disabled the sensor on kitkat via xposed module. but xposed is not supported by lollipop. any solutions?
Set the lock button to end calls. At least then you don't have to wait for people to hang up.
That's what my wife did when she cracked her screen.

Issue with Proximity Sensor. (XT1052)

Hey, I'm using Moto X 2013 Xt1052 running Lollipop 5.1, My proximity sensor is not working, I'm sure it's the proximity sensor because I used test apps and I can see it's detecting proximity all the time at a distance of 3cm.
Obviously, my biggest problem with that is that my screen goes dark when I make a call (Because the proximity sensor think the phone is near my ear). Trying to use the power button to turn on the screen didn't work so I set the power button to hangup calls (Otherwise I had to wait for the other side to hang up!).
I think the Proximity sensor has got some Hardware defect, Please help me telling a way how to disable the proximity sensor so that while placing a call the screen won't go off.
I have the same problem on my phone. It happens not always but sometimes during calls. Or when I hear a long vocal on whatsapp putting the phone on the ear.

It's very hard to disable it in software. The best way is to open up the phone and physically remove the sensor from the PCB. It's easy to chop it of with a flat screwdriver.Problem solved.

{LOS 17.1} Proximity Sensor bug ? Screen shuts down and does'nt lit back when phoning

Hello I've been happily using L.O. S 7.1 for three month on my XZ1C . But It's been a few weeks that the screen turns off to black when dialling a call, before I put the phone to my ear. It doesn't lit back unless I make a long press on the screen and activate the speaker, or the keyboard icon so that the screen stays accessible while phoning. It looks like a proximity sensor bug.
I've made some tests with "Sensor Readouts app" , and the proximity sensor seems to react normally.. So I've tried to use another Dialer app, or to reinstall the Stock Phone dialer app because it's a very uncomfortable issue. BUt no success so far... Is there a way to reinitalize the Proximity sensor and/ or the Telephone app on LOS 17 /1 ?
Thanks for any hints.
