Charging device when switched off reboots to TWRP - HTC One Mini 2

Hey
I have a problem with my device; Whenever it is switched off and I plug the charger on it always boots to TWRP but it does not work- The touch screen doesn't work and pressing the power button locks it and cant swipe meaning I have to manually reboot it.
Thanks

There are a lot of other threads talking about this this problem is known, and there's no solution yet (we have to wait for official twrp support). The only solution for now is to reflash original recovery.img and get back to stock recovery

Thanks for this. To save starting a new thread do you know if there's a way to remove the red HTC boot text?

that shows only when you booting into recovery. the only way is to flash stock recovery

Oh, well, it's good to know I'm not the only one with this issue.
However, why should I flash stock recovery? I mean, there are no further issues, the phone still charges while in this state, and I can reboot it with my PC. There is one thing I'm worried about;
What if I turn off USB debugging? If I would end up in the "stuck recovery" after I have done so, would I be unable to get out?
And also, I think there is a possible fix.. Wouldn't it be possible to reboot the phone by just pulling out the battery and turning the phone back on? Yes I know, "battery is not removable" but I'm pretty sure it is, it always is. It's not going to be easy tho.

i don't see why you have to switch off your phone. theres a lot of options in stock rom like "do not disturb", "airplane mode" etc so you don't have to switch off.
It seems this problem happens when you reboot your phone while charging ( i never had problems) try to avoid that.
ps - i never switch off my phone and only reboot it if needed or maybe once a month. But thats me.

I never turn my phone off, but sometimes I can't charge my phone in time and the battery runs dry. See? I can't reboot at 0%, so I have to charge it a little. Now you could tell me that it still isn't a problem, since the phone still charges in recovery and I can use commands to reboot system.. sure, but I'm working on a way to prevent anyone from entering recovery or using adb-debugging or hard resetting my phone (from a distance, if phone is stolen). This would turn off adb-debugging, causing the phone to be stuck in recovery for ever, if it were to charge in off mode. I guess I'm the only one having a problem with the bug

Hi: guess im one of the lucky ones who never had to deal with this.
You can remote reset your phone using Google device manager. You can ring, lock or erase phone and check last location.

I'm using avast since there are more options for rooted devices I'm well aware of the google device manager, but thank you anyway!

I'm using the Honor 7 with TWRP 3.0.2.0by paulobrien and Unofficial CM13 by papsi177 and having the same issue.
When charging while the device is turned off, it automatically boots into twrp. Does anyone have a solution? Are there other recoveries (except the stock recovery) which doesn't have this problem? Is it somehow possible to modify e.g. a file to have a nice charging animation instead?
It isn't that big issue, but it would be nice to solve this anyway...

I found that users phones and recovery gets different reactions.
When i tried cm12 i had that same "issue" but with cm13 i had the battery animation. Same thing with getting phone freeze when battery run out.
The best chance is to try different recovery versions and hope for the best.
That said, i only switch off phone when battery died on me.
im currently still with TWRP 2.7.1.0-20140802

I'll try to downgrade and see if my charging animation gets back ?

Try the new TWRP 3.0.2-0 from nightcore500. The freeze in charging only mode is fixed on his recovery

HTC Vivid Bricked?

Hi,
I have a 1 month old HTC Vivid. It was running it on ICS 4.0.3 and it was rooted. Today, while I was working on it, it suddenly powered off and now it won't do anything. Like it doesn't display anything on the screen, doesn't get powered up and when I connect the charger, I can't even see the orange light. ITS TOTALLY F**KED UP!!!
Please Help!! Thanks!!
Can you boot into H-Boot?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
I got the same problem. The phone did not work at all. It only flashed for a few seconds when I pressed the power button. I searched all the websites, but nothing worked. My solution is to send the phone to HTC to have it fix. They have a very good customer service.
With the charger plugged in, does the phone vibrate when the HOME, MENU, BACK, or SEARCH buttons are pressed?
Had a similar problem, for me HTC was the only solution, just say that it happened suddenly and dont mention anything about boot loader or roms.
Have you guys tried project UNBRICK yet? Search that on the forum here, as I can't post links yet.

Yes but it is a pain and takes several tries. I had this problem a few days ago and this was the only way I could get around it.
I HOPE YOU HAVE DATA BACKED UP! That's your responsibility and not mine. If this ruins your phone then tough. I will not be held responsible for a bricked phone...
First off, assuming the bootloader is UNLOCKED, install the ALL IN ONE tool on your computer (it actually runs from a folder and doesn't really install which is good)...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003
Open it, then...
Remove any bought protective case (it may mess with the buttons).
Unplug charger.
Remove battery.
Wait 5 minutes.
Reinstall battery.
Plug in USB cable from the computer.
Hold down the VOLUME DOWN button and then the POWER button.
It should boot into the bootloader. On the ALL IN ONE tool, flash recovery to CWM. Once complete, click on "Boot into Recovery".
If the phone does not boot into Recovery, flash recovery to WCX.
If the phone reboots into Recovery, you will want to do a factory reset, wipe cache, go to mounts and format them all. Then mount it as USB and copy/paste a ROM over and flash to that ROM. I like Virtuous Inquisition v4.0.2.1.
Good luck.

Worked perfect - had to pull the kernel out of the ROM I used and flash it with the tool but it worked perfectly...
Im betting your screen might be toast, happened to my wife's vivid, completely just up and died one day for no reason. I haven't rooted yet and this sort of stuff makes me leary to do it.

EDIT: I have stopped looking for these threads. The more I look, the more I find. If the above threads don't convince you that there is a serious issue with the vivid, then adding more of the same problem will no longer help.
I have added this thread to a growing list of similar threads. Please read the other threads and see if your issues seem familiar.
From what I understand... Don't let your battery run out on this phone. Some Vivids kill batteries.
Solution? None yet.
1. Buy a new battery once a couple of months-ish, until someone figures out why some Vivids are eating batteries. YMMV
*OR*
2. You might invest in a external charger and see if that can bring the "Vivid munched" battery back to life. YMMV
I vote to thread merge the above threads if this proves to be the issue.

[Q] Another way to boot to Recovery?

Hi everyone,
I started to use custom roms about some months ago, and I'm facing my biggest problem right now, hope someone can help me.
I flashed my phone via TWRP Custom recovery with CM10.1 and one day, suddenly the pin (that little entering for the charger and usb cables) stopped working, so I couldn't charge my phone in any "normal" way, I started using a direct battery charger. But today I flashed my phone with another version of CM and forgot to wipe data/cache, so now it's stucked in the CM boot animation. Thing is, I can't even access to recovery mode to flash again because for some reason, everytime I turn my phone off, it turns on automatically. Without pressing any button, and it doesn't give me time to do the vol-/home/power combo. I can't use any direct cable alternative either for what I described above. So I was wondering if some of you had a similar problem and can give me a hand with this. I'd be very much appreciated it.
Many thanks and greetings from Perú!

Press recovery combos when your turning off, see if that works, you might just be holding power too long and it turns on again
No usb at all? If you can connect with adb, you can reboot to recovery that way.
Combo.

Use key combos mate... and after the phone vibrates, release only power button for avoiding the autorestart :fingers-crossed:
Hi, thanks all for your advices. I try em all but with no sucess. Though, something weird happened today. After the battery completely drained I tried charging it with the my regular charger, the cable to the wall one, and the phone vibrated, like it recognized it, but didn't turn on. Just vibrated. So I tried again using my micro USB to PC cable and the phone vibrated again when I plugged in to the USB port, but didn't turn on either, nor the PC recognized the device. Don't know if this is good or bad :S
If you have any more ideas, please let me know.
Thanks!

I'm trying this, but it keeps auto restarting. I'll describe what I'm doing, maybe there's something wrong:
1. Insert the battery.
2. Phone vibrates, I press Vol-/Home/Power and Samsung Galaxy S3 mini shows.
3. Keep pressing the combo and the phone turns off
4. Release the power button
5. Phone vibrates and again shows the Samsung logo and then the CM boot animation
Turn off again and same.
Thanks for the advice!
Hi again, I managed to get to "Odin Mode", the recovery that comes by default with the phone. Don't know why if I had TWRP installed. Does anyone know if it's gonna help me in some way? Remember I can't use a cable
Thanks!
How did you get into "Odin Mode"? Are you sure the cable is not working when the phone is in download mode?
Got into it by doing the button combo, tried several times and it was tricky but finally got it. And yeah I quickly connected to the computer (I have a Macbook but I also try on a PC) neither of them recognized it. Don't know what else to do
Try wireless adb.
When connected to computer:
Code:
adb shell
su
reboot recovery
As far as I know the phone should not vibrate everytime you put battery back. But if you're able to go into odin you should be able to go into recovery (unless volume up key is damaged). But... while in odin... you can go back to stock rom and that should solve lots of your problems mate.

You also need a working rom.
If the usb connector on the phone is broken, you can buy another one for 4$ on ebay, but you'll need to solder it and it's a smd component with small pins, so it may be difficult.
You can also try to reboot your phone in safe mode:

Yeah, thats true. A working system is needed.
Just a question.. When you try to enter recovery (vol+/home/power), have you tried to keep pushing when it reboots?
Have you tried to connect usb in download mode (vol-/home/power) to see if Odin detects it?
Whiteout a being able to synch to your computer or accessing recovery mode youre not gonna be able to restore your phone. Your best bet is buying a new micro usb cable (they are inexpensive) and restore using Odin.

Yeah, I keep pushing the buttons combo and it reboots again, it won't start to boot CM, just displays de Samsung logo and reboots. About the second question, I've tried connecting the computer while in Odin mode but it won't recognize it, I haven't tried with Odin itself open because my primary computer is a Macbook and don't have a PC with the Odin installed near to me all the time. Do you think it could recognize the device, despite the fact the whole PC doesnt?
Thanks!

Oh, I see. You mention you could access odin mode, Im not familiar with it, but maybe it is possible that you could flash TWRP again, or CWR from the odin recovery? Also if you don't mind me asking, do you know how did the phone's pin got damaged?
I'm starting to thing you aint got a recovery at the moment. I've seen this type of thing before. Problem is, if you can't get odin to work you won't be able to solve it :/

I have no idea. I didn't fall or anything, it just stopped working one day. I thought it had to do with a "software" thing more than hardware, because I was using CM 10.1 and of course it wasn't official, it had bugs. I actually was trying to go back to CM10 to see if that was the problem but I got stuck here.

Really (I mean *really*!) bricked my phone. Nothing works.

Hi p970ies,
EDIT: NEW problems, see last pages.
here is my story:
I was on IZS v1.1, when I decided to go into recovery and make a full-wipe for having a "fresh install" again. You know, the phone was laggy, I had to many apps etc. I pressed the on/off-button for 1-2 secs to reboot into recovery, then my phone turned off and restarted but just with a "bright" black screen, the display was on. I thought "something went wrong", pulled the battery out and put it back in again, started, but then same screen again.
A few months ago an easy "unbricking" method (I know, not really unbricking) was to flash Redy2006's touch-recovery and boot into it with his scripts. So I flashed it (I know it's dumb, because of the u-boot and v30 thing, Idk), same result.
After that, I grabbed smartflash and two .bin/.fls packs of 2 roms, went into that special mode (phone off, press vol+, plug in) but there was no "sign" (screen that shows that you are in that mode) like the other day, the screen kept being black, but on.
Nonetheless the flashing worked and the software said everything alright. I started the phone but same result, in addition that there was now this effect: When the battery is put in and/or the phone is charging, the screen changes from being on and off. I can't do anything, no restarting with buttons, no LG screen, nothing but on and off, on and off. Every few seconds.
Thank you, I hope you experts can help me. (Even when I have the phone 2 years now and I was a ROM-junkie since the first day )
Edit: Tried smartflash with another patched v20 ROM. Tried KDZ Updater, just errors. But now the phone seems to boot, but there's nothing on the display, just the 4 softkeys are fading in and out.

Oh man, its sad to hear that.
I can just think on two situations.
One is a broken screen, but thats pretty obvious.
And the other is a broken boot partition. Its very strange that you cant get into software upgrade mode. You sure you removed SIM, battery and SD, and then plugged it to the cable while holding the volume buttons?
I dont doubt you did it well, just making sure. Anyways AFAIK you should be able to enter that mode unless you got a broken boot partition.
Best of luck, sorry Im not of much help.

Hi, thank you for your answer.
Yesterday oder so, I connected my phone without SIM, SD and battery while pressing vol+ to my pc and it showed the S/W-Update "Wait while update is in progress" or something. I was happy because the display isn't broken. But then I flashed again and the display is as black as before...
I thought about a broken bootloader. Do you guys know a way to fix it? Or the boot partition?

Im pretty sure that if you can see the software update mode, you can unbrick the device.
When you said you reflashed something, do you actually mean that you smartflashed the fls and bin files from a stock v20 rom? AFAIK the bin file carries a bootloader with it so it should get fixed if your problem is the bootloader.
And by the way, while the phone has that black screen and is stuck booting... Are you able to use adb commands? You could try to jump to the recovery with "adb reboot recovery" to see if you got a working recovery.
Best of luck, tell me how it goes

yep, I tried every version (10, 20, 30) in bin/fls and kdz. But I never got the screen to show something again.
And no, I can't use adb commands, sadly. It says "cannot find device" or something like that.

Huhmmm... Quite strange.
You can try to open up device manager, look for the phone (will probably have no drivers and the icon will have a yellow triangle) and force installing adb drivers. After that you are supposed to use adb even in middle of a boot.
I'd say that your best chance is to get to your recovery, so you can wipe everything (even formatting system) and start from scratch...
Anyways Im no expert at all... Just trying to help.

Sometimes ADB works, but it says "device offline". When I flashed PRE-IZS fls/bin from the spanish forum, and then V30B bin/fls, something really weird happens: The phone is on, the wake-button works well - it turns on and turns off the display and the softkeys. But the screen doesn't show anything - just black.
Hello there!
Did You try out the B2C tool provided by LG? And there is one other tool provided by LG. Just try these oit. If they dont work, then try claiming it under warranty. They might replace the motherboard.
P.S: If You have the money, sell this piece of **** and get a Sony or Samsung. Cheers!

I think I'm going to buy a Nexus 4, but I have to convince my parents
Oh and yes, phone is older than 2 years and in Germany we only have 2 years of warranty I think.

An easy, possible fix for The Device offline is to use the latest ADB. Just use the attached zip anywhere and use ADB, its the latest version from the android SDK, but just the files required for ADB. My nexus 4 had the same problem, but Solved it by updating ADB.

damn it says "error: device not found" when in S/W or bootloop... or device offline in bootloop
any ideas?
did you try patched bins ? (for being able to boot into recovery right after the flash process, maybe you just need right wipes)
#700th post yay...

Yes, I did, but Smartflash works "less" than the KDZ-Updater. Actually the phone beeped today while it was on (with some kdz flashed) :silly:
Is it possible to convert patched bin/fls files to kdz?
I don't know, probably not... what I can say is that kdzu doesn't perform full wipes since it's intended to update the system and keep datas at the same time. You probably need wipes...

Oh ok... But with KDZ-Updater, it's possible to turn the phone off and on (screens is "on" but shows the color black while the softkeys are on too).
I'll try again with Smartflash... Do you know another version of it or a good tutorial? Maybe I've done the wrong method or something...
there are several tuts in this forum. smartflash is the quickest and safest way to restore / unbrick as it erases everything in the internal memory

I know, but it never works. That problem is so weird! :silly:
Man, nothing works... After smartflashing display flashing off and on again, after kdz display on, softkeys flashing
ADB side service is not active while in S/W mode. The only chance to access to recovery is to boot normally, and access to the device via ADB. The problems are : device needs to pass initial boot process for being able to be detected by ADB (even if you don't see the desktop it's ok), and USB debug must be enabled by default...
so, if you can't pass initial boot process, no chance to use ADB, and, if it passes, usb debug must be enabled or device will remain offline...

Is there a chance to enable it manually?
the only chance is to flash a ROM which have it enabled by default for the most of them.
mine died because of the new twrp 2.6. It has definitively corrupted the boot partition as even smartflash can't ends its process. I had to buy another device...

[Q] [Dead] Totally dead phone

Hi.
Today, after flashing a cwm recovery, I install the carbon rom 4.4.2 (and gapps) through the recovery, and everything has going fine, so i reboot the phone and... nothing. Absolutely nothing. The phone is always power off and it won't turn on. I tried to enter in download mode, recovery, change battery but neither is happening. What can I do now? Dump in the trash?
Thanks a lot!

One solution would probably be a "USB-JIG"
next time use TWRP recovery as novafusion suggests

Just return it to your seller. The contract of sales lies with the seller, not for you to send it to the manufacturer. I fully drained the battery of my bricked S3 mini before sending it back to Amazon (my seller) and they never found out it was rooted
I got the USB Jig; I remove the battery for 20 second and put in again, insert the usb jig... nothing again.
Well, i think I can dump it ._.

Hey bro ! Try this. Remove your battery and hold on volume down button. While holding button connect your phone to PC via phone. It must boot in download mode. I hope it will work, good luck
