[Q] Custom Recovery Wont Install Desire 510 - HTC Desire 510

Hello people!
I am fairly new at rooting and would like if someone can help me with my problem. I've been using these guide to root my Desire 510:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775801 (I was told by a friend that this worked fine for his Desire 510)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-510/general/how-to-root-htc-desire-510-t2951744
The problem is, after I reboot back to HBoot and press Recovery, I i doesn't boot to twrp instead it boots back to the home screen. PLEASE HELP
Cheers!

The current version does support the 510. It was updated on the 24th. Does your bootloader say Tampered/Unlocked? Or is it still locked? Do you get the HTC screen?

I'm asking if the Desire is 32-bit or 64-bit. Your computers are irrelevant. There is no support from TWRP for 64-bit Desire 510 so you won't be able to flash a recovery image. If the phone is 32-bit then you can flash the TWRP recovery.img and gain recovery on the device. If you didn't buy the 510 in America there is a 95% chance that it is the 64-bit unsupported version. If so, there is nothing that can be done until TeamWin or someone releases a 64-bit.

I don't know how to make that any simpler.
Connect your device
Open cmd
Type: adb devices
Ensure your device is listed
If it is, type: adb shell
In adb shell type: uname -m
It should spit out something like arm7 or arm8
arm7 is 32-bit, while arm8 is 64-bit.

oky if it arm 64 bit not get root is that all right !!!!

If it is 64-bit there is no TWRP recovery yet which means that you can't get rooted.

HELP Please... at&t htc one, in canada... cannot access play store?! No OS!!

So I bought a HTC one today locally in Winnipeg, MB Canada...even though it was an at&t phone (unlocked). It sees my sim card no problem, I can text, call, search the internet etc.... but I cannot setup the phone fully or properly, as it will not access the app store.
When I try to sign in with my credentials, it instantly errors... it says it cannot connect to google servers, try again later.... It turns out it has custom rom installed (android revolution). I went into recovery and tried to do a reset/format etc... but the same thing continues to happen.
Any information appreciated. I need my gmail etc!!
Thanks
as you can see below, I can get into recovery.... but think I wiped everything, including the system? is this device borked?
and now i have no OS at all.. so i cannot get past the bootscreen.... help please
I can get into recovery.... team win recovery project 2.6.3.3....
but I see nothing to boot, install, no zips, files etc... I think I wiped it clean.

where should I be typing that? so far I did this
adb push rom.zip /sdcard and it did some things?
then I do adb devices (in the cmd line of windows) and it gave me my serial number.... but what now? I tried typing what you said above, and it gives me nothing
Just type "fastboot getvar -all". This should work, but i will also try it on my own as soon as i get access to my computer because im not totaly sure about it.

Ok you are S-OFF so you can flash most any rom. But follow the thread using the s-off section thanks to @csla and @nkk71

You still need to get fastboot working however.

Bricked Phone? PLEASE HELP!

My HTC One decided suddenly to not wake up this morning even though I had left it at 80 percent charge before I went to sleep. I put it to charge for 8 hours and when I came back, it still would not turn on. I can only get into the fastboot menu but my computer will not recognize my phone whatsoever- it says android 1.0 on my windows 7 computer. I know all of the correct drivers are installed because this is the same computer I used to root my phone. I am rooted with ARHD and TWRP. I have also tried holding the volume and power under a bright light and I can only get into the fastboot. Whenever I try to enter recovery, it gets stock on the "entering recovery" sign and when I try to boot the phone, it gets stuck on the splash screen.
I have not changed anything to my phone in the last month or so and this comes completely at random.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT: I can only get fastboot connectivity. Not ADB

I know you're eagerly trying to help, but you should take it easy a little more, before suggesting ruu's at every single point, and in every recent post.
going from 1.29.1540.17 to 4.19.1540.9, with S-On could really be a one way trip ... not necessarily a bad one, but just a one way trip.

forget the pop-up!! check Windows Device Manager
your phone has 3 options:
1- bootloader (where you do fastboot commands)
2- custom recovery (TWRP or CWM), (where you can do adb commands)
3- booted ROM, if USB debugging is enabled you can use adb commands
in all three modes, the drivers "need to install", if they dont, you need to manually select them

I can't get into my recovery. It freezes on the "entering recovery" screen every time. And for number 3, i can't even boot up my phone. I know this might be a bit unorthodox, but would you mind doing a teamviewer session with me?

Sorry, just turned off my pc and going to bed soon (it's almost 3am here, and I have to go to work in 4 hours)
Have you tried downloading the recovery again, make sure md5 is correct!! And don't forget to: fastboot erase cache
If that doesn't work, we can do teamviewer tomorrow.
Sorry, too late for me.

My phone is s-on and my bootloader version (version-main) is blank whenever I do getvar all

Having an issue with S-Off. Help please?

I did a stupid thing: I unlocked my AT&T m7 (which I thought also made it S-OFF). I then installed a recovery and wiped the phone. After CM11 wouldn't install I realized that the phone was still S-ON. I have no OS on it to boot into. Any ideas on how I can get an HTC ROM on there so I can run the revone and grant it S-OFF? Thanks in advance!

Just to let you know, that rom is pretty old. You'll need to do some updating. If you don't want to do that, you can also download this one :

But it might not work. It's worth a try though.

Neither of those worked. Here is the error I get: Link.
I guess my next step is to try to find my otg cable and try to load a rom from there, right?
------
EDIT:
I managed to get adb working in recovery using a 32-bit VM (I now remember the problems I've had in the past with x64 and adb). I installed Viper, used rumrunner to achieve S-OFF. I am still unable to flash cm11. PhilZ/CWM gives me Status 0 and TWRP just says failed. Any idea what my next step should be?
ANOTHER EDIT:
Okay, I'm able to install an older m7att build but i can't install any of the unified m7 roms.

Do you have a working rom on the phone, If not the OTA is useless as its just that,( an update to the rom ) and not the full rom.
You need to download the RUU for your phone.
If you do have a working rom then you need to flash the stock recovery for your rom version and relock your bootloader,( your S-On ) to install the update.

Btw, your phone firmware is currently 4.20.708.10 (from your fastboot getvar all) so you can't use a 2.24.708.4 ruu because its a downgrade and you must have s-off do downgrade.

this is a rom and you have to install it from custom recovery, no need to relock bootloader.
adb push or sideload it to your sdcard, then install it from twrp

I didn't not have an OS. It's just that the number didn't show up in the boot loader. This number turned out to be the firmware number.
As I had a nandroid backup saved I used that to restore functionality to the phone and thankfully it was ARHD which able to be S-OFFed using Sunshine.
Have you tried unblocking the bootloader again?

The missing OS version is caused by some versions of twrp 2.7.x.x recovery.
These versions have a bug that writes a bad instruction to the misc partition for bootloader messages, and inadvertently wipes your OS version number.
The only way to restore it is to flash firmware.

I have an OS version but when I flashed the ARHD ROM and rebooted it when it was shutting down it told me that the phone needed to have SuperSU installed and it asked if Imwanted to install which I said yes to but it didnt install anything instead it just rebooted and stayed in the boot screen for the longest so I turned it off and restarted it but nothing would happen same stuck in boot screen. Went into recovery re flashed the ROM and rebooted the phone when I did that it sais that there was no OS imstalled and asked if I was sure that I wanted to reboot the phone. So now I am stuvk at yhe bootloader, Relocked for some reason with S-On and I have no clue on what to do.

Try TWRP 2.6.3.3 it seems to work best for most stock roms.

2.6.3.0 is not compatible with kitkat roms.
Use 2.6.3.3 as previously stated :good:

It worked fine when I first installed Viper ROM. Plus how would I be able to install it if I am relocked?

You will have to unlock the bootloader first. If you are able to get to the bootloader you should be able to unlock your phone.
Ive tried several times and it doesn't let me. But me try again.

If you are not able to unlock your bootloader, then you will need to find a RUU to reset your phone.
It worked. OMG it worked. Well it rebooted but stayed stuck in the boot up screen so I restarted it and went into the bootloader and now its unlocked. What do I do now?

I got into recoveey and the TWRP version is 2.8.0.2

I can't install anything, I dont know what to do. When it reboots it says that it has no OS installed and recovery can't open or mount any of the data, cache, or sdcard folders. What do I do?

You can lock your bootloader and run the RUU in my previous post.

I have already tried that before unlocking the bootloader. It doesn't go through. It gives me an error that the phone is not connected. To check that the phone is connected to the pc

From the same site that had the RUU if you scroll down he also has the firmware from the RUU. You might try to flash it but your bootloader must be locked since you are S-ON.
