[Q] Buying Moto X verizon developer edition [HELP] - Moto X Q&A

I want to buy the Verzion Moto X devel. edition. I want to know will this work on straight talk?

Check the bands available on the phone you're interested in then compare them to the bands Straight Talk uses. If they match, the answer is yes. Or Google 'Verizon Moto X developer edition on straight talk'.

I googled "Verizon Moto X developer edition on straight talk" (looks something like this)
https://www.google.com/search?q=Mot...on straight talk&num=100&newwindow=1&ie=UTF-8
Then I clicked on the very first link and found the answer. And then just to confirm the answer, I clicked on a few more links. And then if I still wasn't sure, I could and would check if my phone is compatible with Straight Talk on their website. And then if I still wasn't sure, I'd give up on life.

How to Get into Bootloader!

Here's how to get into bootloader for those of you who are trying to root it, will save you 10 minutes:
Press power WHILE holding down the camera button and volume down button.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r6q9Foom1o
Does this even matter if you can't get into Recovery from the Bootloader and can't write to system?
well
the problem is, we need to somehow get a rooted update.zip file into the Droid x, I am not such a big hacker on that but I have tried to get my Verizon rep to get me some contacts with Motorola, trying to persuade them this will sell more phones if people can "root" the phone. Seriously, I m trying my best here so hopefully we geet a rooted Droid x soon.
Yeah I want it rooted that's the only thing holding me back. I love the fast gpu it has.
well they have a podcast coming up and u can ask a question
since I'm a new user. can't post the link developer
motorola.com /eventstraining/ droidx/
AllDroid is holding a giveaway for developers who'll work on rooting/making custom roms for the Droid X: http://alldroid.org/tabid/62/g/post...e-a-Motorola-Droid-X-Developer-give-away.aspx

it says you win a droid x, not develop for a droid x.
it's just voting for your favorite developer.

Point taken, but I'd hope that the dev who wins the phone will at least try to develop for it.
Edit
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Has anyone tried the update.zip method that has been done on the Nexus One, Droid Incredible, etc...?

They will. No matter what, its a good situation for a DEV.
LOL it's going to take A LOT more then a simple udate.zip to root this phone. unless we do get a signed test ROM leaked. but right now i am more worried about getting an unlocked bootloader. who knows tho maybe we can use RSD also to get some access to it. i hope someone can whip up a sbf file with a unlocked bootloader on it.
The problem
The problem is that there's not even an option under bootloader to update the Droid X with an update.zip file.
But rest assured, I am sure someone will get it done, look at the Droid and Droid Incredible, they have both been rooted!
We need some kind of community team that can tell Verizon that they will actually make more money if they let people hack it. seriously, they will caz more people will buy the Droid X if they can hack it.

Except the signed bootloader was not Verizon's idea... This is coming from Motorola.

Yeah, no need to unnecessarily hate on Verizon, I don't think they had anything to do with this.
the way it sounds i wonder if you'll end having to solder a mod-chip in it.

And how do you know this?
Like most things in life, I think the answer is in 'Follow the Money'. Motorola doesn't have as much to gain or lose by locking the phone up this tight.
VZW on the other hand is trying to generate this new revenue stream for Tethering/Wifi Access. A stream that gets obliterated by custom ROMs.
With VZW's history of requiring restrictions on phones (remember all the bluetooth restrictions they used to require on their phones? - hell they got sued over the Moto V710 stuff). I think its very naive to think VZW doesn't have a hand in this.

Yeah I don't think Verizon cares. Its T-mo and others that are anal about all this because of the way they get their bandwidth imo.
hmm did you not read the efuse article and what Moto had to say about the addition of the efuse and what it does... They made the hardware/software - verizon had zero say so in that matter - distributor vs retailer

Android Dev Phone 3

I know that Nexus One is now available as an Android Dev Phone. How much is the cost of it now?

As usual, another worthless reply.
Nobody has seen the any links on Google for the developer phone that they say is available at this time.
So...the answer is, maybe?

The web page accessible from the "Development Phones" link on my developer's console page still only shows the ADP 2, going for $399 US. I'd guess that the Nexus One will be up there soon and that it'll cost the same as when it was generally available. But maybe we'll be lucky and they'll knock $25 off of it to make up for the cost of registering as a developer.

Sim unlock Sprint Moto X [DEVELOPERS REQUIRED - BOUNTY $$$]

Hi all
There's a manual for Sprint HTC One http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44143251
Guys there use an apk from system to unlock sim (OMADM Test Client)
We have some similar apks in /system/app/ but I couldn't launch them, there should be some other command rather than there on HTC
Maybe anyone more familiar with adb could help
I've also came across the HTC unlock tool for Sprint. That would be awesome if someone could take a look at the possible usage of this approach for Moto X.
We have SprintOMADM2.apk in /system/app/ for example. And some other apks. The trick is to make it launch, cause I've failed at this, when I read AndroidManifest.xml from there I can't get what to use. I tried some variants but shell gave me error message. So I hope for some expert help in this issue

Were you able to achieve unlock by any method?
not yet. I don't have enough knowledge to launch these apps. and it seems like no devs are interested in this. hope it changes soon.
Hoping for this too, will gladly donate for someone to do it

Maybe we should add Bounty in topic title? I would gladly donate $10.
10 from me too, we got 20 already

i'm also ready to make a reward for the one who will be able to make some research on it. i'm sure there are lots of people who are well with android development
count me in, Im willing to give out 10$ to get my phone unlocked
Wow $40 already on table. I could do some research but I don't have sprint moto x. Lol
I'm willing to go up to 30 if someone finds a solution... Getting desperate. If someone finds a way 30 dollars is nothing for the genius that figures it out

[Q] Keep hearing about someone selling unlock codes.

I have been in several threads around here and I keep hearing mention of a Chinese person who sells bootloader unlock codes for this phone. Is this person real? Is he still active? How can I contact him?

Thank you. I am really missing my Xposed modules, but I guess I'll have to wait. Hopefully Android L arrives soon to hold me over until we can root AT&T.

I would honestly wait to upgrade to Android 5 if you are wanting a shot at rooting your phone. Android 5 is supposedly Googles more security focused release. I plan to hold off on any update to give devs a chance.
I am hoping the China middleman does come through though with codes for these devices. It is how my first OG Moto X was unlocked

[Q] Custom Roms for MOTO G?

Anyone have any recommendations for custom roms on the Moto G? I have my Moto G rooted, so I'm investigating next steps.
I'm looking for something that provides increased security. Do any of the custom roms help with this? Or, are the custom roms more aimed at GUI customization? I really don't care if the icon is more fancy or a blue color. I really want something that gives me functional improvement.
thanks,
John
There are no real usable Custom ROMs yet, just a few that were put together but don't boot most of the time.

Please try reading a bit more. The same question is just 2 posts below yours and you would have got the answer for your 2nd question about ROM recommendation in that thread itself.

I did read that thread. That post is about 2nd Gen moto G's. Not xt 1032's. Even reading that thread does not give an answer like you suggest it does.
I've found an article on the internet that says there are 5 roms available for gen 1 moto g's and it gives a brief description of each, but as a new member, I was not able to post the link to it. Says I have to post 10 messages first before I am able to post links. However, the article does not give the pros and cons of each rom.

ps.
You may want to rename this forum Gen2 or XT106x.
I purchased my Gen1 in 2014. Wasn't aware that's what folks are calling Gen2.

Yup, you are right but don't know who can change it. I think admin can change that
I see custom Roms have started to appear, but it seems they are mostly for 1068 dual Sim, no love for 1064? How hard is it to port between these 2 models?
