Dot View case on sale. Black and grey under $10 USD - One (M8) Accessories

Quick Amazon search (not signed in, no referral/affiliate link)
I never cared about the Dot View case, but I just ordered one. $9.30 with the NC state sales tax. Can't beat that. I guess I've been a little curious about them, since there are a lot of decent cases under ten bucks, but I pretty much sprung on this one.
No idea how long the sale is for. Could be over any time, really.

Bought one. Thanks!

Match price it at best buy and got it for $9.4O

Just make sure to get the one that is shipped and sold by Amazon. I got one last week for $12 and it is 100% genuine. Not the best case I have ever used, but for $12 It's a cool case for going out, and showing off.

mine takes like three weeks to get here

Can anyone confirm, that the M8 fits with the Dot view Case in the Car D190?

Regarding shipping, I ordered just before or after I posted, on a Saturday. They said it would be here Monday. It was here Tuesday. So 3 days instead of 2 (I have Amazon Prime).
The case fits but not completely. The bottom part fits like a glove. There's no mistaking how it fits in. Perfect fit. However the lid (the dot view part) does not close all the way. I have nothing on my screen, not even a screen protector.
The dot view gimmick is just that. You can swipe on the case but you have to really press. You might be surprised by how much pushing you have to do. You can't change the theme. You can't customize a thing about it. You can change the temperature units in Settings → HTC Weather. This is not very intuitive and it's not stated anywhere in the manual.
The magnet thing works great. When you open it, the screen comes on. When you close it, the phone goes to sleep.
Dark grey means grey that is not light. I wouldn't call it dark, either. It's just grey. It's similar to the gun metal grey finish of the phone (if you have that option — I do, except stupid PC Verizon calls it "metal grey" since "gun" is a bad word now) but matte, not glossy. And it extends the premium feel of your phone. It feels like a premium product. It feels like a genuine HTC accessory.
It does leave dot view smudges on your screen, but these are easily wiped off with a microfiber cloth, which every phone owner should have, anyway.
You can forget about one-hand usage. You will need the other hand to hold the case open while you text.
I use a FlyGrip and I have their case. The FlyGrip would not stick to the bare back of the HTC One M8. I don't know if that's because the adhesive doesn't bond to metal. It's peeled off my naked Samsung Galaxy S3 and two of its cases cleanly, so the bond is not permanent. I might try attaching my FlyGrip to the Dot View case, but what would be the point? The FlyGrip is made to accommodate one-handed phone use. Dot View prevents it. And with a FlyGrip, you gain a kickstand, but you just can't lay your phone flat on its back.
So now I have two cases, and though I meant to take the Dot View case to work, I just didn't bother taking my phone out of the FlyGrip case. I intend to keep the Dot View case, but probably won't. I have one IRL friend with a One M8, and I might let him try it out, but he only uses his phones naked. He doesn't like cases at all and thinks they're a waste of time that take away from the engineering of the phone — especially a nice one like ours. And I don't disagree, but I like the FlyGrip's utility. It's useful to me. It prevents drops. But it isn't cheap.

Bought a new one because it's cheaper, forgot it doesn't work well with my glass screen protector. =\

Theme stuff is in the HTC Dot View app. If not on phone, then it's on Google Play.
Also if you're rooted, you can do a lot more, theme-wise.

New Horizontal Leather Case for the HTC Advantage X7510, X7501, & X7500 by NUTSHELL
Nutshell: http://tuff-as-nuts.com/index.asp?PageAction=COMPANY
I had contacted Nutshell regarding a customized Horizontal Case (black) that will fully enclosed the HTC Advantage X7510 with the leather pouch included about 2 months ago. I was able to get intouch with Ian Miller and was basically received with open arms. I was asked to submit my design and the dimensions.
The dimensions are: 5.8 inches (lenght) x 4.4 inches (height) x 1.30 inches (depth).
It is closed by a velcro flap that fully covers the top of the case preventing any accidental exposure to the elements.
The back of the case has the D ring and metal belt clip lined with leather. But in all honesty, I think it would have looked better if the metal clip was left without the leather strip cover. It would looked nicer if the silver finish of the metal clip was shown rather than hidden.
But all in all, the case is very well made. The stitches and cuttings were done right and very clean. The case will protect the X7510 and it's leather pouch while having the ability to clip it to your belt or trousers on the go.
I paid $95.00 for the case, but it may become cheaper if it will be popular.
I have attached pictures for you guys and gals to check. I believe NUTSHELL will mass produce them if the demand is high enough.
THANK YOU NUTSHELL (Ian) for a case well done.
Feel free to ask questions...

nice find as i just bought myself another case but this one i like a lot better although the case i bought was only $49
Thanks Christian. Glad to help.
As this was a prototype, we have not yet given it a part number...but we shall and then post it to our catalog.
With your blessing I"ll use some of the images you have posted here.
Obviously we shall try to price it right, but as the first few will, like this one, be hand cut, pricing will have to stay the same in the short term.
However, if there is an interest (and it has to be considerable to make it worthwhile, we'll likely look at getting the assets that will enable us to run off some volume).
That said, it really is over to the community to determine if this product gets wings...or....?
A suggestion: Maybe someone could open a book to register interest (bulk purchases work best and enable us to finetune our pricing). As I am not a regular on this forum, maybe that someone could run point for me on this.
So it really is over to you guys.
We'll do what we can.
All the best.

Nutshell,
Very well taken pictures indeed. Looks like real good quality pouch. Is it made to custom sizes? I normally carry my device without the keyboard, so it is quite a bit thinner and smaller. What would be the total cost shipped to Australia?
Also, a question for cktlcmd. Currently, I have a soft pouch, and taking it out is easy, as I can squeeze the soft pouch to push out the device. With a hard leather one, I imagine it is not easy to squeeze the bottom to force the device upward, so one would have to lift it up. Would that be easy? Or would the device be too slippery for that, even that I carry it naked?

In my case, since it also houses the X7510 with keyboard and the leather case, it is not slippery at all. It is easy to grab it on top and just pull it out. The case itself is not made of really hard leather plus it is lined inside with felt like skin to protect the device from being scratched by the case itself. The technique I use to get it out fast is to pull on top and press each sides of the case because that is where I notice the greatest hold on the device occurs.
In your case, since you will probably want Nutshell to adjust the measurements to accommodate just the device, it won't even be a problem because of the soft felt lining, it will just slid easily in and out.
It trully is a nice case. I wish they had designed it like this from the start.

I have listed the product for the x7510 in our catalog:
Horizontal belt case for HTC x7510
Sure, we can make you a slimmer horizontal case.
Costs would be the same.
We would need the dimensions without the keyboard.
Shipping to Oz from NZ depends on how quickly you would want one.

Will the 7510 case also fit the 7500/7501? My understanding is that they are the same dimensions... Anyone know offhand?
Thanks for the topic
Have anyone ever seen a vertical case for X7500 for the use without the external keyboard?
This is a bit off-topic, but personally I find the HW keyboard to be the ultimate screen-protector and would not dream of leaving home without it (even though I use my Advantage in portrait-mode 95% of the time).
On-topic again I would guess that one could use any case made for the 7510 WITH keyboard as this unit is just a bit thinner than the original 7500/7501.

No. The keyboard is the most effective way to ruin your device with scratches. Take it away if you want your unit to look new all the time. If you really must have the keybaord, put a piece of cloth between the unit and the keyboard to prevent them from rubbing against each other.
We have different experiences then eaglesteve. I have used my HTC X7500 for well more than a year with the original book cover (with the 3 clips) and have only miniscule scratches on the keyboard itself, not on the main unit.
I now also have the Piel Frama Case (since a month ago) and with this case it would be even more difficult to scratch the unit with the keyboard.
And even if this was NOT the case I would much rather have endured a scratch or two than having my screen broken due to a fall or pointed item pressing against it (even in the pouch). The solid steel of the keyboard over the screen gives me an ease of mind I will not trade for the sake of a marginally smaller "package" to carry around.
And now, with the vertical Nutshell-Pouch I hope to enjoy my Advantage X7500 for a long time since no better device (for my needs) seems forthcoming from HTC or any other manufacturer.
I agree with eaglesteve - I've had more scratches/rub-marks from the keyboard than from anything else. Keeping the keyboard as a screen protector is a non-issue, just make sure the screen faces towards your body when its in a pouch, or in a pocket. On the weekends I leave my Nutshell and the keyboard at home, and just face the screen towards my leg in my pocket.

finally after many, many tries, a case that really works. well made. beautiful. sturdy. i got the mag lock. very nice, highly recommended.
Well... I just order mine from Spain... 10/14 days to wait... will see. I'm risk 99.95 USD on it.
I just receive the confirmation email... good signal, my VISA still works.
Received last week.
Well finished... and the quality is according the price.
The X7500 fits perfectly even with it's case. Since I'm not placing the X7500 in the case with the original one there is place for my backup battery.
Great job Nutshell
This case is nice! But I always wanted a case that would allow me to hold my X7500 without the keyboard,so it would look like a slim and supersized-screen IPOD! That I can put into my pocket easily..like an IPOD.
So, I have a question for Nutshell: can you build us one? But I can someone here volunteer to provide some dimentions for an X7500 or X7501, coz I really sucked at the whole designing and measurement thing, afraid I would screw up the whole thing.

Received my Moko 360 Case (Pics Included)

Here's the case:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007S9ZSGW/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00
It has all of the correct cutouts. I also like that the speaker cutout is open, as opposed to a bunch of holes like I've seen in other cases. It does add some bulk due to the fact that it can rotate 360 degrees, but it not enough that I can't slip it in my rear pant pockets. It has a loop for the stylus, as well as the magnet wake/lock. It also doesn't have the flaw that other cases have where it locks the tablet when you fold the cover back against itself. I like the white stitching and the fact that it doesn't cover the bezel, which is a deal breaker for me, since covered bezels tend to hinder you when navigating the UI. It also has deep grooves so that it doesn't slip when you have it propped open. Also, when in Portrait mode, you can only use it on the last groove. Any of the other 2 grooves can't support it. When it is on the last groove, I can use it without feeling like it's going to fall back, so it's supported very well in that aspect.
This is the same case that I have for my Blackberry Playbook, and on that back of the Playbook, it has the Blackberry Logo, which you can see through that open hole in the back so it looks nice. On the Nexus, there's no logo or anything on the back that shows through the hole, so I wish that it was covered for the Nexus version. Another small gripe would be the location of the Stylus loop.....if you have the case open and you have a stylus in it, the tab will be at a slight angle. I tested it and it doesn't take away from the sturdiness of it, just a small observation.
All in all, I'm happy with it so far. The seller refunded me the money since I was supposed to receive it last week and it got lost misplaced somewhere in shipping and ended up getting routed to Cali first before coming here, so I give him props for great customer service.
Nice review! The case looks better than I had imagined.
I got the same case delivered on Saturday. Works well. Feel a lot safer carrying it around to and from work now.
I may get the slim fit version as well at some point so it isn't quite as thick, but it does feel solid in this thing.
I notice you have a skin on the back of your nexus. Does it get in the way with the case at all, and if you pull the tab out of the case, has it mangled the skin at all on any pressure points?
I have a skin as well but am reluctant to put it on for this reason, and being that the back is rubberized i dont feel like it really needs it in the first place.
Thanks for the review. Really wish they had more color choices! I want a case that sits portrait (I read a lot) & landscape (Netflix). I already have a case for now, but I'm looking to replace it with one that does everything I want... like this one! I'll wait it out a bit & see if they come out with more colors.

Yes, I have an XtremeGuard body protector on it and it doesn't get in the way. I've taken it out of the case a few times and the protector's not bunching up. The protector's been on the Nex7 for over a week, so it's cured pretty well. I wouldn't try it on a fresh protector install. I'd give it about a week so that it sets right before putting it in a case like this.

I have a similar one bought off ebay. I'm happy with it. The only downside of that case is the circular bit at the back where it rotates. It can potentially scratch the back of the Nexus 7 so I have put a clear protective plastic on the back of the N7.

Poetic Slimline for Nook HD

Just purchased and received the Poetic Slimline case for the Nook HD. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-SLIMLI...804667&sr=8-2&keywords=nook+hd+7"+poetic+case
Currently the case is just $6.95 with free shipping. Current as of 2/13/2013
The case has has a plastic base that clips on over the body of the Nook HD. This helps to make the fit very snug while adding very little to the depth of the device. There are cut outs for the volume rocker, headphone jack and for the power button. The bottom of the case is left mostly open for access to the micro sdcard, proprietary port and the LED light hole. There are also two holes for the speakers on the back.
The plastic case is covered with a faux leather type material. This allows for a relatively tacky area so the device will not slip out of your hand. This material also covers the front of the device protecting the screen of the Nook HD. On the inside of the front cover is a soft velvet like material that is nice and soft preventing scratches on the screen. The front cover can also be tri-folded behind the device to act as a stand for the tablet. This occurs in landscape mode allowing for a decent angle to watch movies or other videos. It does not provide any support in the portrait mode though so it will not help with reading books.
The front cover clicks in to place with the back plastic via magnets. This helps to secure the cover so that it does not flop open. It also provides for a way to turn your Nook HD on and off when opening or closing the case. This is a great feature that will actually bypass the normal lock screen so that when you finish opening the case your device is on and ready to go. However, if you enable the password lock screen then you will still need to unlock and then type in your code.
This case comes with a 3 year warranty from Poetic which is very unusual for cases but is a great feature to have.
One con I found in this device after its arrival was that there were some threads coming out from between the two material types on the front cover of the case. This were easily clipped to make things look better but it does take away from the idea of the case being of top quality. My only other concern is how well the materials will hold up while using the front cover as a stand. If used very frequently it could lead to cracking of the front cover. However, I will only be able to tell that over time and not for the day that I have had the case so far.
So far I am very impressed with the Poetic Slimline case for the Nook HD. I recommend anyone looking for a nice slim case to pick one up.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
Some more pictures in post # 4.

This looks great. Exactly what i have been looking for on HD+. this is avilable also for HD+ at $8.95.

There is nothing on the back. So no worries there.
This case is not designed for portrait use. It might stand straight up in portrait but it won't be very stable and there is no way to change the angle.

Far and away the best commercial case I've had for a tablet flavored device. And half the cost of the nearest competitor in the
'decent case' catetory, and that one was for a 5" Samsung media player.
I get the impression that these are from a maker who also makes iPad cases and uses many of the same materials. The front has three
longitudinal strips of material - but the third is narrower than the first two. I'll compare it to a smart cover tomorrow - my memory is
that that cover has three bands of equal-breadth material on the front
The fit in the rear is good as delivered, but may start to loosen up over time, and doesn't have a cutout to match the grommet
in the corner. I may add a cutout (I have a grommet setter for fabric) and then use a shoelace or similar to fasten down the back
on that side. That could also get me a loop for a stylus, which would be useful to me. The fit across the front is a little too
long and a little too wide, which will annoy me over time or I may get used to it.
The cover activates the wake from sleep in CM10. The device sleeps itself after a minute by default, which is fine with me.
All in all, 8 out of 10.

i think i got the last 8.95 one as after i ordered, the price jumped to 12.95. maybe it's back down now, haven't checked.
anyway after about a week of use, i like the case for the price but have some minor quibbles. the case is a bit creased/folded on the edges when it shipped, so it doesn't perfectly conform to the shape of the HD+. maybe over time it will smooth out.
the stand notch is not very solid and i've had it slip when i'm moving around, not sure if that's standard for case stands. also the "hand strap" is kind of hard to pull out, but i mostly use it in landscape mode so not a big deal.
like i said not a big deal especially for the price, but not a perfect case.

I think we're talking different covers here. I thnk your cover is the "Poetic slimbook", not the "Slimline". Still good to hear you views on it!

Thanks for the tip. Now $15 for the black HD+ one on Amazon. Still a decent price :cyclops:
Anyone has a hint how to order Poetic to a Europe country other than UK at a low price?
I can order at amazon.co.uk for 20GBP + 6GBP shipping (= 40 USD) which seems a bit high compared to 6 GBP price on UK Ebay (but from where I can't get it shipped to Slovenia).

[Q] Is the Dot View case worth it?

I have been reading mixed reviews about the case and it's fairly expensive over in Egypt so I cannot really decide if I should buy it or not, and unfortunately there's no option of trying it beforehand.
One recent user said that it actually created a smudge/scratched his screen and that kind of scares me because I just bought the phone for a crap load of money and I don't want to scratch it. I have been a M7 user for almost two years and it doesn't have a single scratch on it. The reason I am hesitant about the Dot View is because it's a flip case and even though I bought the HTC Double Dip Flip case for M7 when I first got it with excitement, I ended up ditching it for a normal back cover about a week later because it's a pain as a daily-driver.
My M8 came with a cover inside the box (which I am assuming is standard with any M8) and it actually does a decent job but I am not a fan of rubber-feel cases and I prefer plastic ones. The only problem with back covers is that when my M7 accidentally fell of the table last week, its screen got shattered and I was very upset about it. I am pretty sure if I had the Double Dip Flip cover on, that wouldn't have happened.
Any information, thoughts, and advice are much appreciated.
I would say its a personal preference. I got a dot view case just to check it out. It was sort of fun but the novelity wore off pretty fast. The big problem with that case is that it offers very little in the way of protection for the phone...and secondly, you can't use it with a glass screen protector (for the most part) because the case doesn't close fully with the glass installed. Also, the phone is a pain to get out of your pocket due to the rubber front, which by the way, will forever attract lint and get all mucked up...All in all it was more of a pain in the end.
I ended up choosing a nice iloome 9H tempered glass screen protector and a Spigen Slim Armor case and its a fantastic match of good looks and protection.
Here are a couple of links if it helps you...best of luck with your new M8. You're going to love it.

Thank you for your reply. That case looks rather impressive. I actually forgot to install a screen protector, thank you for reminding me, I'll be doing that tomorrow. I'll see if I can find that case locally, if not I'll see if I can order it online - I am not sure if they ship to Egypt, though, because most sellers on Amazon don't. Thanks again!
EDIT: I found one but I am not sure if it's the same as the one you linked: http://egypt.souq.com/eg-en/slim-ar...rotector-for-htc-one-m8-black-grey-7066001/i/

It looks rather similar, though, and the price is fair. I think I'll be placing an order.

I own one, and I have a love/hate relationship with it.
First thing first: The case is extremely attractive: everybody will ask you for it, and you can show it off to all your friends (mines are all in love with my phone just for the Dot View Case)
the fact that you can answer / hang the phone without opening the flip is very useful
The Bad: Typing with the case open is a real pain. There are occasions (when sending long text messages) that I found Myself removing the case, typing quickly the msg and putting the case back on.
the way the flip is designed makes it constantly trying to keeps its closed state. so if you are using the phone one handed you will find yourself constantly struggling with the case to keep it open
That's exactly why I hated the M7's double dip flip cover.. it just made typing with two hands a hassle, let alone with only one.

I've never been one for cases on my phones, especially a phone as attractive as the M8. Having said that however I did get a dot view case as a part of a bundle when I got the M8 and I do find myself using the case most of the time. The reason is the case, in addition to being protective, is also functional. The M8 without a case is so smooth and slick (in every sense of the word) that I'm sure that I would have dropped by now if I wasn't using the dot-view case.

Has anyone got any of these generic dot view cases?

Are they good? They're even advertised as "Genuine" for $7~8, but without the HTC logo at front / back.
Ebay link
Note: Yes, we know that not everybody likes the dot view case.

Here's the one with the HTC logo for a few bucks more.
Personally, I think it's the same exact piece of plastic. One just has a logo and a steeper price.

Guess what bro, those aren't genuine either even if they say so. If you look at the pics you'll notice that some don't have the htc logo
I have the genuine gray, I bought it when I've got the phone, but I'm curious about the quality of the ones they're selling for $8, that's it.
To be honest they look exactly the same but I would like a closer look. Sellers in Amazon claim that they're identical to the genuine with the exception of the logo.

I always stay away from unbranded stuff, but these called my attention because they look identical and there are more colors available
Don't put a 10cent case on a $600 phone.....spend the money on a genuine case.

Weirdly I got one on eBay for about 9$ sold as authentic and I figured why not get one to check out how much I like it and it was HTC branded. Although that could be faked.

I had an original dot view case that I purchased the week the M8 came out. I accidentally ripped the front from the back trying to stretch it to go over my glass screen protector. Back in July I purchased this one, http://www.ebay.com/itm/291190318285.
It doesn't say HTC and obviously an overseas knockoff. In my opinion it's much, much nicer than the OEM version. It will flip open all the way back easily and isn't near as springy. It also works with my .3mm glass screen protector, http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6100440084.html.

Don't use one of these cases for protection period. I can almost state with certainty that if you drop your phone on any kind of solid surface, it will definitely come flying out of these cases. In fact, if you clumsily open the case to fast the device will come flying out sometimes. That is in the original from Verizon. They offer some screen protection while in pockets or bags, but little to no drop protection & even in bags, the top & bottom of the device is not protected from scratches.
It was a little more than I remembered but it's 13$ http://www.ebay.com/itm/221503424128?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
The pictures are of mine.
Beyond that I agree with the post above mine, the dot view case is very functional as an accessory but as a protector it's useless it pops out so easily.

I ordered this one last night and hope to see it in the mail sometime next week.

And I also agree with the two previous posts. I bout the official case back in June and two weeks ago, it fell on a carpeted space and the phone flew out of it as well as the corners that secure the phone popping off. Since I enjoyed the functionality of the case, I ordered the above since spending $40.00 for something HTC will not stand behind (I tried to get them to replace it but was told they would not) was not something I was willing to do again.
I will report back pnce I get it.
I had the fake one with logo and the real deal case I got from a Verizon store. Felt the fake with the logo was just as good. So went to return the real deal case at Verizon. Turns out I mistakenly packaged the fake one and returned that one to Verizon(honest mistake). I had no idea until later when I took my One out of my csndyshell case and popped it in the dot view....So while I didn't mean to do that, I ended up with the real deal case. But honestly the fake one closed better than the real one. That is how close they are.
I'm on the Dot View case fence. I really like the concept but the reviews I've read have kept me from picking one up. Does the flap "loosen up" for lack of a better term after using it over time. What I mean is when open and flipped to the back does it start loosing it's springness that people complain about. I like hearing that the generic's seem just as good as the one from htc. I may just have to pick one up at the lower price.
I had an authentic one, and then recently bought one of those non-authentic ones.
As a direct comparison, they both look the same, but the quality is different. particularly, the dots' translucent level is very uneven, so you'll get random brighter vs darker patches
on the authentic one, all dots have consistent translucency
OME or Knock-off, I wish that someone would come out with one that snaps on decently (even if it used double-sided tape) and maybe wrapped in leather. The plastic makes the phone feel so cheap! I had the original. I have since misplaced it since I got a cheap otterbox knock off for now. Does the job, but I do miss the DotView for the cool factor.

I have an OEM Dot View case and love it. I spent about $15 for it on Amazon. HTC also updated Dot View to add more functionality. And I was surprised yesterday by the Halloween animations. I'm very impressed by it and glad I got it.
SoI received my case today in the mail and here are my findings:
1. The case closes just as well as the OEM one I had.
2. The plastic case itself feels a bit thinner that the OEM one but I like that since I felt the OEM one was a bit too thick and added bulk to the phone.
The "Seams are not as smooth as the OEM but I am going to try and use a nail file and see if I can't fix that my self
4. The "Springiness" of the hinge that is in the OEM is not present in this case as it was in the OEM
5. The cover does not lay flat on the back of the case when opened all the way but I think that is just due to the design of the case.
6. The case seeme to snap onto the phone as well as the OEM case did.
To me, the $8.00 I spent on this case is totally worth it. As a matter of fact, I might order myself a second one to have different colors to chose from. If you think about it, for the price of one OEM you can get 6 of these in different colors and still have $2 and change left over!
I posted some pics of the case but it's hard to see any details.
Hope this helps you guys make a choice.
