[Q] blacklisting phone numbers? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In Az we get a lot of telemarket scam calls and i remember when i had my oneplus one when a call would come in there was an option to blacklist call so it would get rejected, is there a way to do this on nexus 6 . sorry if this has been asked already

Use a custom ROM as they have this blacklisting feature, or download a app from the Play Store that does something similar.

Check out Root Call Blocker on the Play Store. Does the trick for me.

I would love to know if this is possible on the stock rom. My Note 3 used to have this option.
If not available on stock is there any app on play store that works well in blocking unwanted calls?

The Root Call Blocker looks good, however, I do not want to root my phone in order to have an application work.
Is there another that actually works with our phone and Android Lollipop ?
I have installed 6 different Call Blockers off Google Play now, none of the 6 work !! Any ideas ?
Would be nice if Google could implement that into there next build.

Thanks for the referral SAW_JOK3R .. however, this is one I also tested. Yes, it does work, however, if I Blacklist/Block a number, I DO NOT want it to go straight to voicemail .. I want it to just disconnect/hangup the call.
The only program I have used in the past that does this successfully is BlackList Pro .. but, this app is not fully compatible with Lollipop just yet.

There are a few good apps to do this, but you refuse to root, so no sense in naming them. But just putting this here for others who come by and read this in the future, there ARE Lollipop-compatible blacklist apps.

Your opinion is just that. Please don't start any issues or drama.
The fact remains, for those of you searching and come across this thread, several good apps that require root do this very well. RCB Pro is what I use and works perfectly so far on stock 5.0.1

This call blocker doesn't require root and it seems to work well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-calls-blocker-t3029688

https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2811745?hl=en-CA
See "Block a call".
This doesn't not really block the call, just directs it straight to voicemail.

In Google Voice/Hangouts you can block numbers. You never get anything from that number once blocked.

I've been using aFirewall Call and SMS Blocker and it works great. Has the answer/hang up feature too

Bluff My Call

Not sure if anybody else has seen this app, it lets you change your caller id when calling somebody else
http://store.androidguys.com/product.asp?id=29829
I can't even find it on the Bluff My Call website and its not in the market as far as I can tell. Its free, says its supported by ads, when you make a call it gives you a 10 second add to listen too. It says it can change your voice and record your call but when I tried it said the servers didn't support those features. Also, you can only make a 2 minute call with it.

i think its the same as the 123 Spoof app available on the market
So has anyone else tried it?
i reccomend SpoofApp ive had so much fun with it.
it works -.- all i can say lol
I've been accused lately of having screwed up the person who I was immitatings service, being told that they can't go online with their tilt, and that they're missing calls. Can anyone verify that there is absolutely no possible way that this could happen?

ive tried it works great, havent received any calls or text from marketers...so far so good!!
do anyone know if bluffmycall show up on ur account as a hidden fee or what..is it a free program cuz its on the market if anyone looking for it here is the apk
I've been using this app for months! no problems guys! have some fun with friends and call someone when they dont pick up my calls. Doesn't do any harm trust me! Its free for 2 min. but you can't use any features unless you buy minutes!
Cant get it to work in Singapore... The country code is 65 so I tried +65 and +0065 and nothing works. Getting error saying invalid phone number...

[Q] Ringtone

I'm trying to set ring tone for a caller I don't want to hear from to silent. The caller is one of those sales calls. where is says set ringtone for this contact and I tick silent. When I leave contacts and come back it now says default. How can I set it to silent or how else to block that caller?

If that is the only way to block a caller,OK but I am kinda uneasy putting app on my phone just like I am uneasy about downloading software on my computer. If you like and it hasn't hurt your phone that sounds good, However can't understand why I can't silence ringtone for a specific caller #.
Just download Mr number and block the number from calling.

I've never tried it but I imagine that if you used the voice recorder on your phone in a silent area and ran it for a couple of seconds that you could set that as the ringtone for that number. It's worth trying if you don't want to download something.

You do know you can call your provider and have numbers blocked right? And you're on an android development site full of roms, themes, apps, etc., and you're afraid to install an app that will hang up on an unwanted caller? Idk if you should be on this site. If installing an app is that much of an issue, they make non smartphones.

Yes, I know they make non smartphones. I just got this phone, my 1st smartphone, primarily for the camera. It has way better camera than any non smartphone I could find. My non smartphone was smart enough to block a unwanted caller. I sure thought that surely this smartphone would have been smart enough to do what my non smartphone could do.

And it can. All you have to do is download an app. In fact you might even be able to do it without. If you add the contact there might be a blacklist option.

An Android phone is not like a computer the apps are kept secure and away from the important system files as long as the phone is not rooted (rooted is like having admin rights in windows but with android you have to jump through hoops to activate the rights). If a app is doing something that you do not like just uninstall it and it will be like it was never there and it will have no ability to be able to destroy anything on a "stock" phone. Feel free to download and install whatever you want from the play store it will not cause damage that will cannot be easily reversed.

VZW Hiya phone apk

I've been using a Note 7 port on my Note 4 and have really enjoyed the integrated Hiya into the phone dialer. Of course VZW has disabled it for their own. Hiya has a stand alone app but I was curious if there's a way to take the unlocked phone app and install it on our VZW note 8. Thanks.

I didn't know there was any sort of integration in the past with hiya. Do you have an APK for that or was your phone rooted? That might be the reason. I don't know how the Standalone app works and if you have to make hiya the dialer of choice for it to work properly. If it's anything like mr. number I'd be over it
Don't think you can install the phone APK since it is probably a system app. So short of flashing it or rooting (both impossible right now) I don't think you can get it. Hiya's standalone app is crap. Obtrusive, nags a bit, not integrated into rest of the system. One of the reasons I got unlocked for my T-Mobile plan is to have proper caller ID without T-Mobile shoving their Name ID down my throat at $3.99/mo

If you're referring to the Hiya caller id/spam feature, it''s not just the phone app & there's a chance you may not even need it. It's enabled by cscfeature.

Reason why I'm still on T-Mobile. Verizon doesn't allow for GSM devices, aka unlocked bootloader phones. Really bothers my how even T-Mobile sells locked bootloader phones. Seems like Samsung and service providers don't care though since we don't represent the majority of consumers.
Here ya go guys, if you root then use this cscfeatures file, the caller ID and spam protection GETS ACTIVATED ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER FREE SAMSUNG FEATURE VERIZON DISABLED. Caller ID, search places, Samsung cloud, as well as a few others. Scroll through the thread and use the one Baggery77 modified for Verizon. It's a few pages in.

ACR is the king in this arena. At least for stock devices. If you're running un-rooted, ACR is a fantastic option. I've been surprised by how well it's been working.
what settings are you using for ACR on the Note 8? I can't seem to get it to work.
Also, Boldbeast requires you to disable Knox on the Note 8, which is a deal breaker for many...it's one of the main selling points of the Note 8 and S8(+) phones.

This is how I have it set on my Note 8, mostly default. Works perfectly for me and I have it set to ask after each call if I want to keep the recording because I'll not always want to keep the file after. Being able to add notes to each recording is a nice perk, too. Hope this helps.

I own BoldBeast, but really can't stand their licence policy (one licence per SIM card), so I've been using (and purchased) ACR and it works just fine.
I "used" to use Call Recorder Pro but gave up on it because every other call answered would be blank and nobody could hear me or communicate.
Do you guys ever had that problem? I use my phone for business and can't afford any chances of glitches like that. Every call in and out has to be 100% successful.

I cant get it to work.
I've tried every recording method (including root) and it
1) just default to record with microphone and thus just one side of the conversation
2) even to ive set it to record all calls , it have to be triggered manually ...
So have you actually got it to work with automatically recording and recording both sides ???
Boldbeast Call Recorder has just released the newest version of V9.9, now no longer need to disable Knox.
Please install V9.9 in your Galaxy Note8, after installation if it doesn't work please power off and power on the phone, then it works at once, without touching Knox, without root, recorded calls are crystal clear in two sides.
You can try total recall.. recorded both side.

Call Recording

Google acting like A-holes about call recording. If anyone finds anything that can give us this again in at least the same way the ACR did, please share here. I would like to use this thread to help us gather updates and any info regarding bringing call recording to our S10 devices. If you are like me, you understand what an important and useful tool call recording can be. It's protected me from fraud and abuse over the years and I hate to see it go.
I still have my un-rooted One Plus 6T that has call recording baked in but to swap SIM anytime I need to make important phone calls will be a real annoyance. If anyone here can help with any info or updates or methods please share. I appreciate the help! Thank you!
Interested by that too, call recording might be illegal in some country it doesn't mean everyone shouldn't be able to use it.
I'm interested too, after some research in my opinion best solution is change csc country to have native call recording enabled by default on original dialer.
Change csc isn't possible by software yet but booting after reset with a sim card from country where native call recorder is enable does the trick.

I still have my un-rooted One Plus 6T that has call recording baked in but to swap SIM anytime I need to make important phone calls will be a real annoyance. If anyone here can help with any info or updates or methods please share. I appreciate the help! Thank you!

I reverted back to Oreo. Everything works as it should now. The world makes sense again. Pie and One UI can suck it.
I'm using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder and it works fine on S10 in europe.
Try tis....it works well on my S10e (Malaysia)

I don't know, I just downloaded from above play store and it's working great. May be restricted in your country firmware.
