Images vanished and the reappered (sometimes) - Huawei Ascend P7

Hello!
I've a strange and really annoying problem. Sometimes pictures (photos taken by me, whatsapp images, ecc...) vanish from the phone, not only from the gallery but also from the file managers. Then the reappear magically, but like today they are not back!! Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?
All the files are in the internal sd and i've not rooted the phone (L-10) yey since it's pretty new. I'm on the latest official firmware.
PS I also have some double folders (like dowloads and whatsapp), both with the same elements and both with the same last change date (which is also wrong because it shows a day of last month while i modified these folder even today)

Pictures and videos erased for no reason. (rooted)

Hi there,
Suddenly my OB erased all media (pics, videos) before June. I realized yesterday when looking for some pictures and found only the ones taken since Jun 1st.
My contacts and messages are still in the SD, pretty weird.
Also, I can see some old pictures with ES explorer, and then in the PC I can see others.
I didn´t do anything wrong, the only suspicious thing that comes to my mind is, maybe, some usb connection terminated.
Do you know if there is a way to recover them? Currently I´m running a software called Stella Recovery, and I can see some thumbnails of my old pictures showing during the process, but it seems this tool is not free, and is taking ages.
I appreciate your help.
Btw, I´m rooted with Nova v7, under 2.2.2.
Thanks.
Probably you have turned on the patched sqlite with nosync and your databases crashed.

[Q] DCIM thumbnails taking over storage - need a fix!

Ok so I have an SGS for over a year now, with an external sd of 16GB and cyanogenmod 10 installed (this one). It's fantastic. But, recently I started having some storage problems. I couldn't update anything or download any new app or even take a picture. This seemed odd as I don't have that many applications installed and I keep all my big files on the external sd. So I started clearing caches and moving applications to the sd. Those solutions didn't last long.
Worse, ther weird part was yet to come. When I checked my settings >> storage, I found that there should be more than a 1.5GB of free space. But, If I checked my settings >> Apps >> On SD Card, I could see that there was only around 5MB of space left. Still, I found some old backup that I didn't need anymore, so I deleted that. hooray, there were now 500MB free to use. That is, until the next day when again, there was zero space to be used. I was shocked because during that time I didn't install anything new, I only took a small video of less than a minute, which by itself didn't weight more than 60MB of space.
Something was definetly up. Using File Manager I tried checking where all the data is, and I found that, to my amazement, in the DCIM folder, there was a folder named ".thumbnails" which took up 2GB of space. That is a lot. seaching around the Forums here, it seems I'm not the first one to notice this problem.
And the solution always seems to be "just delete the thumbnails". To me that seems a bit crass and not really a solution. I'm not tech enough to know what are the implications of simply deleting those files, and I'm not sure how long it's going to last anyway, before I need to do it again. So I'd like to know if there's some kind of fix I can install or some configuration I can change that would make sure it doesn't happen again. Or, if anything, some explanation in layman's terms why it's okay to simply delete those files. I'd like to mention that my phone is rooted, and I have CWM, Rom Manager and Terminal Emulator so I can use those if necessary.
AW: [Q] DCIM thumbnails taking over storage - need a fix!
That really is weird. Did you try to fix permissions in cwm recovery? I'm not sure it would even check that directory but it surely doesn't hurt.
Even if it works it will not cure your immediate problem. You will need to delete the thumbnail folder or the files in it. And here is why you don't have to worry.
Thumbnails are small files that store a preview of your images. They get created by your image viewer and are updated whenever it detects a change in the image file. When your viewer doesn't find a thumbnail it needs to read the whole image file, create a preview and show this. The created preview is then saved as thumbnail so it can be loaded next time the program needs to show the image.
In short: if you delete the thumbnails then they will be recreated next time your image viewer shows the images. So there is nothing to lose. You can safely delete the thumbnails.
JUST BE SURE THEY REALLY ARE THUMBNAILS AND NOT THE IMAGES THEMSELVES!

HTC Zoe not detecting the 20 images and 1 mp4 as a "Zoe"

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me.
I have just backed up my phone and reset it back to factory (A seperate unrelated reason I wont go into).
Since doing so, I copied my DCIM folder back to my phone and restored all my usual apps and settings.
In going into my gallery and events, I expected to see all of my Zoe 3 second videos there as usual, with the ability to click on it and play around with the 20 photos it has in the editor.
However, the phone seems to have detected the images and the video as completly seperate with no recognition for them all being part of the same "zoe"?
Is there another file i need to restore? I took a copy of everything i could see via a usb connection to my PC (including all hidden files and folders)
It seems a little odd that i cant seem to copy the 20 images and 1 mp4 file off the phone then restore them at a later date if i wish to create a 30second edited zoe.
Has anyone got any ideas?
Cheers,

firmware update made photos disappear from Album app

Updated my firmware today and just noticed that the Album app no longer shows the camera photos I took before the update. Or, to be more precise, it shows all those photos in the mashup of all images from all apps on the main Album screen (which I've always found insanely annoying), but when I select the "Camera" folder from the menu, the "Photos" subfolder shows only the couple of pics I took since the firmware update but none of the dozens I took before the update.
Anyone else have this problem?
The camera has to reset the storage folder setting from internal to SD. (at least it had to be done with me)
Yes, I managed to fix it in the end by deleting data from the Media Storage process/app then refreshing the search index in File Commander. Everything is back to normal now (but thanks Sony for the SNAFU)

My pixel 4 xl "Files" app will not show current information

Hello friends.
I'm posting this today seeking the help of someone who is smarter than me. I know it's not very likely for anyone to have my particular phone model and android version combination, but here goes nothing:
First of all, I'm talking about the "Files" application that is a basic file manager that comes with pixel phones.
Anyway, ever since I got my pixel 4xl phone over a year ago, I noticed the Files app is never "current". By that, I mean it keeps showing files that were already deleted, either with another file manager or by accessing the phone storage with a computer.
The deleted files keep being showed in "Files" for several hours and sometimes even days after they are actually gone from my storage. "Refreshing" the app (by pulling down) does nothing, and trying to open the files gets me a toast notification saying "Can't open file", while trying to delete it gets me a silent notification that sais "Couldn't delete item".
Surprisingly, deleting the apps cache and storage does nothing either.
After a while, seemingly without rhyme or reason, "Files" seems to "catch up" to the fact that the files are no longer there, and stops showing them.
Can anyone relate to this?
Best regards!
Details: Pixel 4xl, unrooted, android 10
Essentially Android keeps a "media" database that the Files app is probably looking at. Most actions that create or remove a file through high level APIs will update this database, but some will not. For example, an alternate file manager app could add/delete an image and Photos won't realize it. Or a folder contains a ".nomedia" file in it, and random apps won't know about files stored there.
The type of operation you're looking to do is to force a media rescan.
Thank you for your reply and your useful information. I will try to find out if the app has a media rescan option somewhere.
Cheers.
