HDX Toolkit × revived × GUI - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Android Development

As Faznx92 has abandoned development of his great toolkit that many of us see as an essential to
these devices, I have decided to pick up where he left. I'm continuing the project and, as such, have
recreated it in VB.NET with a proper interface.

I still need to finish up some things design-wise before I do an actual release.
Feel free to clone the repo and play around with it. Any suggestions on optimization, bug reports and the like are much appreciated.

i haven't been around much in a long time and have been silently lurking the forum. while i don't know how hard it is, a suggestion may be some kind of rollback utility for firmware.
personally, i'm sporting 3.2.4 on my apollo and there is a lot of conflicting information i am finding as to if / how i can roll mine back to .3.1.0 for twrp

not really. There are complete threads discussing your exact situation. And is fairly easy to reproduce. I would advise reading the whole thread involving your modifications. The OP is not always updated with every tidbit of helpful information.
while you're above suggestion. Would be nice to be integrated into another utility. There are fairly easy steps to accomplish what you need to.that have already been thoroughly developed by another developer and he would have to get permission from him also add that.
and keep in mind Apollo is slightly behind in development as far as compared to the Thor.

while i understand that there are whole threads, what i am pointing out, and you said as well is that there is not a definitive process / guide.
anyway, the OP was asking for suggestions which is exactly what i gave.

Ive been all around these forums for years. Never seen a more conflicting and jumbled shamble of tutorial wannabes or confusing information in my life. Most of the bricks dont come from seriously stupid people, they come from a lack of competent, cohesive, coherent information.

I cannot completely disagree with you on this. The issue we have is that there are several different routes to currently take with these tablets all depending on what version of firmware you are on, and if you follow one set of directions while on the wrong firmware, its potentially the end for your tablet. Double this confusion with 2 tablets with the "same" yet different sets of firmware. You're right that we are lacking a fully comprehensive guide for people just coming here new. Some bricks have been caused by carelessness, but there is so much confusion with where to begin with some people. Those of us that have had these tablets for awhile may be use to it, but I do feel for the ones new to all of this and the twenty different directions they may have to take based off a single question, "what firmware are you on?".

Am I missing something? I don't see a download link, only contributor links.

Re post 3. Basically says OP is working on it and will release it when it's done.

Got the solution from GitHub and started building it. Anything I can do to help? I'm basic to intermediate with OOP languages. I was thinking of attempting to convert the project to C#. If anything, I can help make builds.

Nope, but there are other methods to obtain root. I will let someone with more experience jump in. While I have read through relevant posts with interest I have not directly worked with Apollo (8.9" HDX) or Sangria (Fire OS 4.x). Don't want to dole out bad/incomplete info ...
Important: Do not connect to WiFi (delete any WiFi networks you may have previously connected to) as you may get upgraded to 4.5.3 which is reported to be much hard to crack. I know it's tempting ... don't do it!

**** ! My Kindle Fire HDX is on 4.5.3 now. :-$

Yes, if you need root and you have hdx 7" (codename Thor ), you can downgrade from 13.4.5.3 to 13.3.2.8, then upgrade to 13.4.5.2 which is now rootable.

[Q] Install Android on HP Tablet

Hello, as this information may already be posted please be patient as I am new to this site. I have a 32gb HP touchpad that I would like to install android on. Is there a thread or threads that someone could point me to for this installation process. Also, once android is added, will there be automated updates? I have done a great deal of research on this and it seems most of the android installation information is 6 months old or older. I would like to install android in its most recent form to the touchpad. Thanks.

How to root the Kindle (Including 11.3.1)

I had tons of problems rooting my kindle, starting with adb and such. But then I found my own method that worked, I made a video on how to do it.

No offense but rooting the KFHD7 [11.3.1.0] is not really a hard thing to do >.<
After you've installed the adb drivers on your system and ADB gets to recognize your device, it's just about executing the rooting script that is being provided somewhere here in the forum. The swerf-exploit is working like a charm for v11.3.1.0
I don't see where you could have "tons of problems" doing those 2 pretty simple steps, it's just about reading with attention through the related forum topics and you should get this done with ease =)
But as I said, no offense, it that did the job for you, it's fine, just that I wouldn't like to install the additional software you do in your process when I don't really have to :cyclops:
Greetings!
I would not download programs that are from unverified places to install my drivers like in the video. Like the post above says, rooting a Kindle is not hard. If anyone want to root the new 2013 Kindle Fire HD, the link is in my signature. Try that before installing a programs on your computer.
this Kindle is not your "Daddy's Pontiac"!

Lets give the contributor a shot with providing a valuable solution for some other members here who are searching for these solutions to accomplish this task of rooting this puppy.... :good:
When someone shares a nice tip here at XDA, thank him nicely because this Kindle is not your "Daddy's Pontiac"!

All I'm saying is that there are already enough valuable and even easier solutions being provided here in the forums to root the KFHD7 [11.3.1.0]
And as @LinearEquation mentioned, it's not advisable to just install programs with questionable source ^^
Especially if there are working solutions here in the forum which, as I mentioned, just requiere to install ADB and run the root script
TL;DR: Not trying to be ingrate for the provided solution of the op, just saying that working ones already exist :3
But those are just my two cents regarding the topic xD
Greetings!

How to turn Fire 7" into an android tablet?

Hello guys, i've just ordered a Fire 7" and i intend to use it mainly as an android tablet. So i noticed how much the original device is filled with stuff i won't be using, so i wanna get rid of all that.
How do i go on about rooting the device exactly? I'd really apreciate it if someone point me to the right way. I've tried looking it up but i get confused everytime because of all the information that's been posted here. Thanks in advance.

This may help you. If you want to get rid of the Fire OS you would need to root your fire then install flash fire and finally flash a custom rom like CM 12.1 or Slim ROM. BTW Root Junky has tons of videos on the Fire.

After viewing videos be sure to revisit the forums, especially the ROM OP and associated thread, for the most current recommendations. Details and options change over time. RootJunky's videos are truly excellent but reflect the best thinking at a specific point in time and should be used as a visual reference versus a step-by-step prescription followed to the letter.

Kindle Fire HD 5.1.2 Noobie questions...

Hi Guys,
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and a bit confused if honest with the amount of info and articles on this site.
I am a noob to this forum and would like to root my Kindle Fire HD running 5.1.2 and get the Google play store etc running on it. I am also considering putting the CyanogenMod on it as well if that goes well.
I have read quite a few of the articles and have a few questions before giving it a go.
How do you stop the OTA updates while trying to root it (using Kingroot)? Worried about it auto updating to the latest software 5.3.2.1 I think which is not currently modifiable.
Is there an up to date root guide? A lot of them seem quite old now. Am worried about bricking the device. Root Junky has seemingly a good guide. Is this the way to go for a first time try?
What is the recommended CyanogenMod rom version to try now? Or as the project is dead should I bother and look for a different operating system?
Thanks for your help much appreciated.

Vaneyen Intro

Hi, I'm Vaneyen, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I have lots of Andriod devices, and have meddled with rooting a little bit, but am not yet entirely comfortable with risking the brick. However, I am deeply interested in Hacking, which simply means "making My devices work the way I want them to." I have (with the help of Youtube bloggers) hacked Keurig coffee machines, so now it's time to get my Android devices working the way I want them to!
Hi Vaneyen and welcome to XDA! You came with experience to the right place for modding, flashing, development, etc.!
Cheers

Thank you, galaxys.
I have an Android TV box I'm looking to root, but I'm unclear of one thing. I've learned (thank you 3mel!) that the process will likely involve:
1) unlocking the bootloader (if needed),
2) flashing the correct TWRP recovery (for that series of boxes),
3) flashing magisk 21.4 in TWRP and
4) installing magisk apk.
Is there a tutorial on the site aimed at guiding someone through the process of determining the correct process for each of these steps? I've learned that my box in question has an Amlogic p212, but is that enough to go on?
Thanks for the welcome!

Seems like you posted good details in June in those forums.
You can bump your last post there and maybe someone will respond. Any of tutorial should be specific to your device if one exists....

Good question, but I have no idea where to ask it. You may get good results if you google "how to root ios iphone" - I just did, and there are a few promising hits in there.
