Replacement = Even more problems. - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Had a n6 with half purple screen and had it exchanged.
This new one is horrible ..
It seems to get really warm compared to the other and when it does, boy does it lag. Just typing this out, it's lagging.
I also noticed that my Bluetooth has "silence" spots while listening to music. Every 2-3 minutes, it will stop for a split second like it can't buffer, even if the music is on the device.
Another thing that may just be me, it seems the keyboard doesn't predict as well, like it's not even touching the keys I'm swiping.
Lastly, half the screen is white and half is a really yellow color. Very irritated by this device. Makes me want to throw it against a wall.

Your first problem can be resolved by using a custom kernel that does not use mpdecision. Mpdecision is known to be power inefficient and sends your CPU to be sitting in wasteful frequencies causing your phone to generate additional heat. My phone became really warm with mpdecision on.
Secondly, I don't use bluetooth so I can't comment.
Third. That isn't a N6 problem, its a problem with the software of the keyboard application that you're using. SwiftKey works great for me.
Fourth, can't really comment on that. My screen looks good, your phone should be uniformly the same color, you can try changing RGB and see if it would do anything. I recommend turning off adaptive brightness.

Good suggestions I suppose.
Only problem with those, I'm not gonna root or use a custom kernel. The last n6 only had a faulty screen and no other problems. That one didn't need any custom root activities.

If you don't root, or use ROM's then why post about it on a developer forum? I'm not trying to be rude just wondering why here. If it has more issue call moto and have them send a new one. My RMA phone is fine 0 issues so far and I'm happy with it.

This is a user forum as well as a developer forum.
I'm posting here to show there is problems with these phones.
Why does it matter to you?

If you are having those problems on stock, and don't want to root/etc, then your only option is to return it again. Pretty simple.
If you are looking for confirmation that your experience isn't 'normal' on the stock phone, I can confirm it is not.

I'm not trying to argue at all I was just curious. I would have the phone replaced if you want to gave those issues fixed without modifying the phone. Best of luck with the issues because it's not fun when you can't fix them.

I scratch my head also. XDA is a developer's forum. There are tons of other sites more suitable to those not wanting to root/ROM it up.

Sounds good. Let's discuss dbrand skins and the such.
I doubt this has anything to do with memory leaks or anything that's been discussed on lollipop.

I'd say you have a faulty SOC and I would replace it. My wife had similar issues on an S5 where it would stutter and fall behind almost and get warm. The icing on the cake was while taking video, normal 1080p video, and it would drop frames like crazy. Maybe 22fps or so was al, it was getting.

I actually agree with 20degrees on this one... There are tons of non development/customization threads on here, and XDA has a pretty knowledgeable user base so it is a convenient one stop shop for info.
People just need to ignore/keep their comments to themselves in the Q&A and general sections if they have nothing constructive to add to the topic of the thread.

Should I get LG O2X?

Hello!
I'm gonna buy a new phone, but idk when. I think I'm gonna buy the LG O2X, though after reading all the problems with it, I'm not sure.
I have heard troubles like:
Shuts down and reboot randomly.
Shows wrong battery percent left.
WiFi stops to work when you turn it on after sleep.
I also heard about 2 people who had their LG out in the sun, when it was like 20-25 degrees and it started to reboot every 2 minute.
If the phone didn't have all these problems, I would definitely get it. But that's apparently not the case.
Damn, this is driving me crazy, I can't decide whether I should get it or not. Please help me.
All the things you've listed are software, the first CM7 nightly is currently building. That said I've not had mine's been mostly fine. No wifi issues, only had odd battery behavior when trying new kernels. Have had a couple of overnight reboots, but not for about 5 days.

Thanks!
I know that the problems I listed is problems with the SW, and can be solved. But the problem about their phone did reboots every 2 minute when they had it outside in the sun. Is the problem I most worry about, since it doesn't sounds like problems with the SW.
I'm not gonna change ROM or something. Since I don't wanna loose my warranty.
And LG doesn't seems to solve problems that quickly, correct me if I'm wrong.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997705, I read a few pages there, so many seems to have trouble with it. So I really don't know what I should do.
Every 2 minutes? Weird lol. My o2x was right next to me while I was lying in the sun all the time during the easter holidays. No such probs here, actually none of the probs you mentioned. If you get one with constant freezing you can always get an exchange, you know

Any software changes you make can be reversed easily enough for warranty purposes.

Alright, that's good. But having to change ROM, to get a good working phone doesn't seems right.
How is the phone at browsing? I've heard that the text isn't best on O2X.

correct
you can go stock and all is fine.- do not read all those reviews..about rebootings, lags..
I had stock for couple of days and it was very smooth, all fine, no lags, no reboots, then MoDaCo and even this was great.

Sounds like your friends' phones could have errant processes running in the background and the extra heat from the sun could have pushed the phones into instability.
Ask them to install "Watchdog Task Manager Lite" to monitor the processes running on their phones. If they can track down which app processes are the culprits, they should try to delete or modify the app settings to quieten down their errant behaviours. This should help with the "every 2 mins in sun reboot" issue.

I read about this problem in a forum. But thanks for the "Watchdog Task Manager Lite" tip, I guess it could be handy when I get a android phone. If it will be LG O2X, we'll see.
If you are a non-hacker type person, and just want to use the phone straight out of the box, it might be prudent to avoid most, if not all, of the dual-core phones for now. I think the designers and programmers are still trying to iron out the kinks with the new dual-core phones. IMHO, a fast single-core Android phone might probably be a more fuss-free phone straight out of the box than dual-cores currently.

Well, I don't change phone that often, so I wanna have future proof phone that isn't too expensive. And I believe this is that phone.
I'm pretty sure I can root it and change rom. But... I'm too afraid I might mess it up.
In forums like these you will mostly read about the issues that some are having, because people tend to seek out these forums when they disover isues - the wast majority may not have any issues and dont post in forums like these. So regardless of which device you get, you will allways find alot of forum posts dealing with whatever bugs some users are facing. The number of issues and error posts for the LG isnt really that big, nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing you wont see just as many or more for ANY other device out there - single core or dual core.
Basically dont get scared off by these but only use it as a guide to perhaps seek for specific bugs which you would not be able to live with untill they get fixed by the manufacturer.
I have 2 LG optimus - one for myself and one for my teenager son
Both bought on the same day 6 weeks ago.
Mine has run completely stable and "errorfree" since day one - not a single random shutdown or lockup bsod - no issues with wifi, 3g or anything - has worked with every single app I tried, no batterydrain (easily get 2 days worth) etc. etc.
They are running completely stock with the only change being a different laucher (GO launcher) to solve the micro stutter in swyping between homescreens which the standard LG launcher has (just a very minor software issue).
The only issues I have left are 2 known issues - which for certain will be solved by some new LG update. One is the lag that happens while installing a new app from market - the other is the memory management which isnt completely optimised causing free memory to sometimes run a litle lower than wanted.
If you arent unlucky and get hit by the random shutdowns and bsod that some users are facing - then you do get a very nice future proof phone that isnt too expensive, and does most things pretty good allready - and will only get better as updates arrives
Imho, rooting and new roms arent really needed, allthough a nice possibility for those that like to tinker and tuning their devices as much as possible - but even without doing so, you will get a nice phone.
I'm planning to get one too so I just started to visit O2X threads. Currently on Motorola Milestone, but I'm sick of it's low RAM. Every new game is force closing. I'll wait for it to get cheaper in my country .

You're probably right. I've read alot of threads. It's so weird, some have many problems with the phone and some have not. I really don't wanna have problems with reboots and wifi.
I'm still not sure if I should get it or not. I don't really see any other future proof alternatives in the same price range. The SGS2 is too expensive.
This is definitely not easy, maybe I should wait and see if they fix all problems. But IDK which phone I should get instead.

I've seen some reviews of SGS2 and it seems laggier than O2X. First I noticed that in Shrek Kart video (I've seen SGS2, than compared to O2X), after that it seemed that SGS2's launcher is laggy too -.-' ... maybe I just watched fake/bad reviews ^^.
Well i had phone for around 2 weeks and have not had any of the reboot issues as for batt draining if u ture of back ground data then this reduces it massivly, the handset is on of the best around. As for LG not doing update to solve problems i think that is unfair they do seem to be listerning with in a few days of me gettting hand set went from 10b to 10d. So i would say that if you want future proof device then this is the one and if you want game then its a no brainer

Alright. I think I'll get the O2X then. Though, I'm not gonna get it before they fixed these problems.
I read in a review that the OS takes about 300 mb ram.

So I have about 200 mb free for my apps. That doesn't sound much, but maybe it's enough? Well, this is going to be my first smartphone, so I don't really know how much RAM app takes.

Would you return this phone? (Video)

Please watch the following video of my screen and tell me I'm not crazy for wanting to return this based on it's screen which seems to be flickering between cold and warm hues. If you watch the grey areas carefully you can see it switching between having a blue tint, to having more of a red tint.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fmraqenxno&feature=youtu.be
I'm worried that because the issue is so slight they won't accept the return, what do you guys think? Is it obvious to you? A fault is a fault right?
I found someone that also has the same problem!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-mVWkBK41I
First of all, no offense, but that video is mostly blurry.
Secondly, I think it looks fine. By all means, return 10 of them until you get the perfect unit, but it looks fine as per your grainy video. Yes I watched in 1080p.
It seems people are so over obsessive about every little bitty thing about phones these days. It looks fine to me.
Maybe u set your setting to Auto adjust screen power.
Try disable it Setting>Display>Auto adjust screen power.
See if the problem solved.
It's already disabled - thanks for the suggestion though. Why should someone put up with a screen that's changing colour temperature constantly? Secondly I'd rather not take the risk of this developing into a larger problem in six months and end up with £500 mess of a phone. Also it doesn't matter that the video is blurry is it pertains to colour not clarity. If the first video isn't clear enough take a look at the second, the problem is very obvious in that one.

Not to be rude, but just because you see some blue->red change (very slight, I couldn't even see it) on your screen, that makes the phone A MESS? Wow... Not to mention you have a 24 month warranty on it and if you have a problem with in in the next 23 months you can take it back to either get it fixed or have it replaced.
If the phone doesn't satisfy you, PLEASE return it. There is no need to post here and ask for advice if you think the phone will be a mess in a few months because of a slight color change (in your eyes, once again, I didn't see it). You should do what you think best. I really don't think you should take people's opinions into account if you believe your phone will not satisfy you. It's a personal choice.

Not to be rude, but read more carefully. I never said the colours currently make the phone a mess. I said that what is initially a small problem could turn into a larger one in time - why would anyone in their right mind take such a risk by not returning? The secondary reason I posted is because I thought others might have similar problems - and indeed they do, and now we have a thread relating to this SPECIFIC screen problem. It's documented, it's not useful to you, but it might be to one of the other people that will inevitably experience the same problem.
Upgrade to the kl7 update if it is available over the air. It will fix the hue problem in changing colour when scrolling. This way you still have warranty. If it doesn't work return the unit.

Mad? Not at all! I find it funny, that's all. If I am not satisfied with my phone, I'd return it. I wouldn't look to others to help me with it. Not to mention, we can't know how it will be in 6 months because no one has had this phone that long to know if it will turn into something more serious.

From the screen issues thread there are a multitude of different issues, ranging from black blocks in videos, banding, changing in hues of colors (which a lot of people are claiming has disappeared in the newest KL7 rom just released), etc. It's a very generic thread only specific to the screen itself.
Regardless, I understand your point. I'm sure a lot of people will find it helpful. All I was implying is that if YOU are not happy with the phone then YOU should return it. I personally didn't see much of a change in your videos, but if it's something that bugs you, then you should return it! No one can tell you how it will evolve because no one has had this phone for more than 2 months. So in 18 it could be the worst experience ever, or it could be exactly the same, or it could get fixed with software enhancements. I don't know. Sorry if it sounded as if I were mad, or offensive, it wasn't my intention. All I wanted to express was that if you weren't happy with it, then you should do what makes YOU comfortable, and not what others say here.

No notification led while charging

I just noticed a bug, not sure if others have as well. When my phone is charging the notification led's do not work, it stays solid amber. Has anyone else seen this?
It was like that on the M7 also
Really, that is not good. Did anyone make a mod to change that?
Not that I know of.
That's really going to bug me
It's like that on my LTE.
HTC Jewel
HBOOT 2.10 S-OFF (rumrunner)
Android 4.3 Sense 5.5 V3
It's been like that on every phone I've had.
It's been a couple years since I had an HTC, the gs3 light flashed even when charging so I got used to that.

@metalfan78, you sound like your having a rough time adjusting. I hope that you don't turn to the S5 because of that. Granted, I would still be able to utilize your rom on my wife's S5 when that time comes, but that's not the point.
No, I'm gonna stick with the m8, I'm just asking questions about this stuff to see how things work. There are a few things I got used to though. Loving the m8 so far though.

Wish more people would ask questions before breaking their sh**. lol
I learned long ago to read, read, read, read some more, then ask questions, lol.
Some of these things I keep asking about sound fun to dig for and mod.
This has been the LED behavior for a few years now on HTC devices. On the M7, you could use our custom kernel to give you a feature called button blink... Which flashed the cap buttonns if your phone was charging so you'd know if you got a notification. Sadly, that isn't an option we can do for the M8. Hopefully someone can do a kernel mod to change the charging led behavior.
Yea, that would be cool.
I have been digging around the web for answers to this, because it is really driving me nuts. My led is really dim, and I really hate not being notified while the phone is charging. I have no idea where to look though. I posted another thread asking for some guidance because I would really love to change this. It seems like a minor thing, but it is something that HTC should fix in my opinion.

The last time I checked, it is a kernel issue. ThickLizard was working on getting this working even with a blue LED color.
That's good to hear. It seems so minor, but it makes me want to go to a different phone, but if it gets fixed I would be a happy camper.

You could try a different Rom? Viper Rom allows the notification light to flash while charging, the screen to turn on, the rear led camera lights to flash, etc.

Huge delay when receiving calls when screen is off....

I experienced this on any ROM and including stock ROM.
Basically when the screen is off and I get a call...it takes a good 1-2 seconds, after ringer has started, before the screen shows anything at all.
Is this normal? Am I being dumb about this? I've just never had such a delay and it is quite annoying.
I'm getting this too, but it wasn't bad at first. I'm assuming some app is causing the lag.

But it really is though. Never had a delay like this. Especially considering this is an expensive flagship phone

Yes, an expensive flagship phone with an extremely bloated software.
I mean, as soon as you hear your ring tone you can immediately hit the home button or unlock button if it's that much of a bad thing.
Unless you're sitting and staring at your phone 24/7, you wouldn't even notice this.
Usually your phone stays in your pocket, you get a call and you take it out. *crisis averted lol.
I get what you're saying. Believe me I do. And you're correct about most of the time I won't notice. But that doesn't change the fact that bloated phones previous to this one didn't have this delay. To top it all off I'm debloated. So can't use that as an excuse

You may have debloated your device app wise, but I'm not referring to that. I'm referring to the actual Operating System on the device, aka Touchwiz.
So yes, I am using that as a point of reference.
The OS itself is about 2.5GB, rather on the other hand a pure stock android is about 600MB.
And yes, other "Touchwiz" phones have done this in the past. My Girlfriend's S5 does this and so does my S4.
But guess what?
My Nexus 5 doesnt.
The phone actually turns on before it even starts playing the ringtone.
Stock Android > Touchwiz.
In reality, this is not a problem.
It's software-sided which means it could be fixed IF it was a problem, IMO it's just nit picky. I'm sure they could change this but I'm also sure that a 1-2 second delay will not stop you from picking up your phone call or cause any problems, either way.
If this is a problem, please illustrate one or two downsides because of it, what exactly is the outcome of this *delay* situation that is so problematic?

I can give you one right off the bat. And it's the only one that matters. It's called my opinion. If it never happened before with any phone I've ever had, touchwiz phones included...Then no...it isn't normal and it is a problem. No matter the size of the problem. No matter if you think I'm being picky. Frankly I'm done arguing the fact. If you aren't going to offer a fix, then there is no need for you to reply again.

Headache caused by using OnePlus 3T- Help Needed

Hey guys,
So I bought the OnePlus 3T in December when it was launched. After a few days of using it I experienced some eyestrain and headache. I searched about what could be causing it but didn't find any strong cause. After searching alot I suspected that it may be happening because of the PWM screen flickering that happens in Super AMOLED screen phones. I really didn't want to return the phone as I really liked it and it was my first android phone and I really enjoyed using it. After weeks passed by I stopped feeling the eyestrain and headache.... I think I just got used to it.
Now, after 7 months of using the device, I have realized that once again that I am experiencing headaches after using the phone. This time I'm not feeling any eyestrain, I have a strong headache after using the phone. At times it gets quite bad and also affects my daily life activities (mainly studying because I'm a student).
I fear that this may be the long term effect of using the phone despite experiencing headache and eyestrain initially when I started using the phone.
I don't have much knowledge about this stuff so if someone could help me out about whats going on/why this is happening that would be great. and also a possible solution to the headaches I'm experiencing as I don't want to give away this phone . I was wondering if there is something like a custom ROM that eliminates PWM flicker? Any help will really help me and my sore head!
Thanks!
Well,
1. You shouldn't think that using the oneplus 3t is the reason for your headaches, and you should go to a Doctor.
2. I believe that your headaches are caused by fatigue in your vision, and if that is the case any phone or any product that has a display should affect you as well.
3. You should ask in a different forum to post this type of questions, for example yahoo questions.

You're right on the first two but I disagree with this last suggestion.
Don't ask for advice online at all, go and see your doctor ASAP. When it comes to health-related stuff, it's always better to be cautious.

I never experienced this with any of the previous phones Ive used, (iPhone 5c and 6s) so I know there's nothing wrong with my vision.
I think the flickering issue occurs only at around 10% and below brightness. Can't remember but I think it's that. Try brightening up the brightness a bit maybe, but still though I'd also recommend checking with your doctor as an extra precaution

That is not a lot of data points, so I wouldn't make that assumption. You can easily be looking at a red herring, placebo effect or just plain coincidence. Something can easily have changed with your vision or other health over time, without you noticing. And I don't know how old you are, but vision starts to nosedive at a certain age, with things like astigmatism drastically affecting your vision in ways you may not easily notice.
I agree with the above points, things like vision (or even your brain) are not to be taken lightly. You should have your eyes (and general health) examined on a yearly basis anyway, so it's well worth doing.
You also haven't mentioned how much time you've spent looking at your phone. The amount of blue light emitted from these devices can lead to a lot of eye fatigue. I know when I get a new phone, I tend to play with it a lot. So the cause may just be the amount of screen time, rather than the specific phone itself.

Yes it's pwm flickering headaches. I am too facing.
Use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.js.oledsaver
It's really awesome to see I'm not the only one who thinks it's my phone causing my 3T that's causing my headaches. I thought I had developed power in my eyes (got them checked, 0.75 and 0.5) and got glasses. Yet, the headaches persisted. This is such a relief.
