OTA Update for Sprint HTC M8 - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Quick question. My device is rooted, has twrp, and s off. HTC or Sprint sent OTA 3.31.651.2 to my phone today. Is it safe to download? If so, will I lose root? If not, can you supply link on how I should update? Thank you.

For OTA updates you need to have a %100 stock rom (that includes stock recovery too) . You could download the update but all it will do restart the phone to TWRP and do nothing over there. +wrong thread
Edit: I think there is a way to get the update but you have to search for it.

Thank you. ?

[Q] Can I accept the OTA download?

I have an AT&T HTC One that I converted to a rooted Dev Edition 4.3 and I've been using CWM touch. I'm S-Off and recently switched back to AT&T CID since I read that that was a better setting than SuperCID. I'm now being offered OTA download of the KitKat/Sense 5.5 update, but I'm not sure whether I should accept the download? Will it work? If not, what would happen?
Thanks for insights.

Nope. I wouldn't touch it if I were you. Unless you're using the stock recovery (and ideally not rooted), don't accept an OTA update. If you for some reason want to keep your custom recovery, you could try manually downloading it and sticking it in your phone memory to install from.

If you want to take it via OTA, you must first flash the stock recovery to the phone. You can leave it rooted if you want, but you may lose root after the update anyway. Can't say for certain since I'm running stock (aside from being unlocked and S-Off). Also, change your CID to BS_US001. There's no advantage to using the wrong CID.

Thanks. That was kind of what I was guessing. Is it possible to remove root temporarily? Given that I'm S-off, I'm not too worried about being able to get it back. I'm trying to avoid a full wipe if possible.
To completely remove root I think you have to flash a stock RUU, which will wipe your phone. If you get back to stock recovery, flash the OTA update through recovery, you should be ok. But you may need to root again.

What will an update do?

HTC One M8 - I rooted my phone, installed TWRP, S-OFF, and Titanium Backup to get rid of bloatware.
Let's say an update comes through some day from HTC for something.. should I accept it? Or what about if one day we get a newer version of Android update such as 4.5 Lollipop or whatever the next is going to be? Should I accept it?
I will have to re-root/s-off after that or what?
If you are rooted and S-OFF you should never take an OTA update this could brick your phone or damage it. Just for personal knowledge, with my rooted/S-off M8 I accidentally took an OTA update and without reading said yes to the install. My phone restarted but would not load the updater, and then powered itself off. I dodged a bullet on that one. Anyway if you are worried about getting updates the developers here at XDA usually have rooted, S-OFF safe, ROMs that can be flashed in TWRP which give you all the goodies while maintaining your root/s-off status.

My bootloader's unlocked and I'm S-Off. I took the OTA from the settings option on the Harman/Kardon RUU and never bricked.
OP, your bootloader and S-Off status will be unchanged when taking an OTA. However, I think most people would tell you to just flash the OTA in stock recovery or fastboot.
Since you are s-off there is never a need to take an OTA.

To add, it should not brick you phone with s-off.
you probably have to reinstall recovery and reflash a rooted rom.
Can anyone help explain this to me? I believe I had took the OTA update(with the Extreme Power Saver) but then I rooted/s-offed with no problem...In this case, was there anything I needed to do? I just assumed everything was working so it was ok.

I did the same. All you need to do now is install a custom recovery, but it's not required. You can still still run Stock Rooted like you are now and take all OTA's if you don't want to run a custom ROM. Just remember: OTAs and RUUs won't change your S-Off status.

Thanks for clarifying! :highfive: TWRP was installed along with the root so I guess I'm set to go!
Thanks. I'm happily running ViperROM 1.6.0 and it works great. You're right. No need to take OTA updates. Uses a little more battery than stock, but no problem. I just worry if I take a trip somewhere because I have no car charger.

Updating to 4.4.3 OTA

Hi all, back to an Android phone after a long time. It's a pre owned HTC M7 Sprint. I have received the Official 4.4.3 and sense 6 update, however, before proceeding wanted to ask fro help. Will updating make me lose root? Or S-Off?
Thanks,
Jude

I think you are in the wrong forum as there is not an upgrade to 4.4.3 for sprint yet.

As a general rule, you need stock recovery and stock rom to successfully execute the OTA update. So you will loose root but you should retain S-OFF.

How did you get an OTA 4.4.3 M7 Sprint update? When did it go out?
Like I said I'm new to all of this and could have made a mistake. The update is for sense 6, unsure about the rest. Advise now would be helpful.

As far as I know, the OTA 4.4.3 hasn't been sent out yet for the Sprint HTC One (M7). My understanding is it should be released any day now.

Has anyone received the update yet?

Doesnt mention Eye Ex. But it says Google security so i guess its 4.4.4
I have yet to receive it. But I am constantly pushing the check update button
☝same here
The HTC Software Updates page shows that the Eye Experience update for the Sprint variant is currently in the certification stage. I don't think we'll get it until a day or so.

EDIT: For some reason, the 3.30.651.2 update info was removed from the Sprint Update page.
that is weird
Good news guys! OTA will be rolling out later on tonight!

Take a look through the thread in the link below. You'll need to reinstall the stock Android system recovery before you can take the OTA, and also need to be running a stock rooted ROM. However, since you're S-off you can install the newest firmware and then install a ROM based off the latest update. Beats having to go back to stock and re-root your phone

This is the current firmware, not a forthcoming update. I didn't see these files posted when looking for resources for this device and wanted to put them up in case they are ever needed.

Well, I hadn't checked if there was a newer kernel in the update that might break root and prevent using the current one on newer FW. It all worked out perfectly, though. Much appreciated.

Hey I really appreciate the firmware updates for cricket first of all....but I am having a problem, I did use the unlock.bin to unlock bootloader on device the proper way through the htc site. but now when i get an ota it will not install i am getting error that says Livewallpapers.apk has bad contents or whatever, anyone know how i can fix this so i can actually get updates to install everything is stock and nonroot right now so it should work i would think but for some unknown reason the livewallpapers system app is throwing the error.

What build number are you on? Best thing would be to restore an unmolested boot and system.
