[Q] Should I upgrade? - Galaxy S5 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I have a S4 mini (i9195)
I have just upgraded to cm12, and I completely love it, only con is the camera...
Would love if it was just a bit better, not on level with the z3 though
So I have read a some reviews of the s5 mini, and the camera should be somewhat better, just what I was looking for.
My con here is the s5 mini dosen't seem to have the same easyness around for custom roms and that stuff.?
What do you guys think`?
stick with the s4 mini or jump to the s5 mini ?

It is hard to say to upgrade. Best is to test it by yourself in a shop.

I have both s4mini and s5mini.
S4mini pros: ultra light weight
S4mini cons: fast battery drain, no notification led
s5mini pros: finger print sensor, better battery backup,
S5mini cons: no custom roms, no developers.
I advise you not to upgrade only because lack of custom roms. With that exception the s5mini is a master mind.

Custom ROMS now avaiable on s5 mini!

Not much. One stock and one CM 12

When camera issue is fixed a lot of roms will appears, i have sure

[Q] Slow Motion camera mode on Jelly Bean?

Is there a slow motion mode in the camera app in any of the JB roms, leaked official/custom? Is there any possibility that it will be present in the final version? Coming from a (now defunct) Dell Streak 5, I was pretty much determined to get the Note 1, because the low price nowadays and JB update (plus the added note 2 features) offset the Note 2's hardware advantages as far as I was concerned, but after recently seeing some slow motion videos taken with the Note 2, I just have to have that option.
Bump? Nobody opened the camera on the leaked JB ROMs to see if there's a slow motion mode?
i checked it but i don't see it anywhere in camera settings
Thanks! So the Note 2 it is, then
offcourse... loads of new features... but the sad part, galaxy s4 will launch with even more features :banghead:

Camera

I don't often use the camera, but now I did and it really confuses me.
I came from an SIII, which has a 8 Mpixel camera as well, and I'm sure it was way better than this one.
I know Samsung compensated the so-called waterproof with a lesser camera, but there's no excuse for a worse camera.
I'm posting here because I haven't seen similar complaints about the camera and maybe it's just mine.
I'm running a stock ROM which I rooted and I used titanium to freeze some Samsung stuff. I'm a quite satisfied user although I would really like to run KitKat (what my previous SIII has running).
Any thoughts?
Cheers

I've got the I537 ATT us model and I never have any issues with the camera. I too had the S3 before this phone. And it seems to work just as good if not slightly better than my S3 did.. In terms of image quality. I never have any freezing or things like that. I'm running the stock rom, un-rooted.

I think, at this point, the only thing keeping me on TW based ROMs...

...is the camera...
Does anyone else feel this way? Kinda sucks that there's no way to have access to the best the camera hardware has to offer on AOSP builds, and I just miss their snappiness and lighter battery drain...
As a side note, the Edge features even would have been nice if there were more people using them, but tbh it just seems like another one of those things a company comes up with to ultimately abandon support-wise...
Camera, and S-pen (handwritten notes as well as on photos, screens etc)
Wysłane z mojego SM-N910C przy użyciu Tapatalka
Camera is the biggest issue for me too.. but the fingerprint is also a problem, but a problem i can live with...
Actually...I payed all those hardware...the IR blaster, the heart rate monitor, the fingerprint sensor, the pen, the amazing antishake camera...I want to be able to used them even tho i dont daily..And i hate Touchwiz.. AOSP rom is smooth and clean..I wish there was a way to get all the drivers (and software of them) for those things and port to AOSP..
BTW: Cynogen not supporting N910C Exynos.. Sucks big time....What did we do to you guys???
I used to Agree
Untill recently.
Im a flashaholic so there arent meany roms i haven't tried for the F. Used to stay with Sammy roms for the camera and the battery life. But I have to say, with the likes of AICP being out vertually bug free, its a fair trade off.
TBH the camera isnt that bad a quality (will never match Samsung own, nor be close) but its decent enough for day to day use. The battery is actually better than any other Sammy rom i have yet used (latest AICP buid). Rom is crazy fluid, super smooth and feature rich. Really cant complain. You can nearly emulate everything that the spen could offer. It still works, just none of the bells and whistles. We have Memo built in now too. I dont use Shealth (use Fit as it works with my Lg watch)
So ultimately I think it comes down to one thing, How dependant have you become on Samsungs own Services?
If like my wife, you use Shealth, Snote, and all the rest, you will find it agonising to make the transition.
If its just Camera Quality and/or battery putting you off AOSP, try it, try to make it work before you dismiss it as there are lots of options and benefits to be had. Open camera is really decent nowadays.
The Rom has had such a impact on me, im actually considering getting a nexus over a Note 7 next (always had a sammy phone since s2) Crazy, I know :silly:

Buy Huawei P9?

Hey guys, I'm seriously considering getting a Huawei P9. I'm not a big fan of EMUI [i currently own Huawei GR5 (Honor 5X)], but the P9 pretty much the best device in my budget.
Hows the entire user experience? battery life? Speed?!
Since it's Kirin CPU, I'm guessing we'll not see CM on this device for some time? lol
Also, which model is more popular? In terms of software update availability and stuff? L19? L09? or L29?
From my own experience I came from a LG G4, yeh it has an excellent camera and fluid as hell, but I changed 'cuz the battery life (in G4 it suck , charging almost every day, and stopping data and/or wifi to extend it a little more)... Huawei P9 has an awesome battery.. with 31% you can still have like ~10hr (wifi/data on non stop).. Speed?? 3 GB Ram is more than enough, really good, I don't care about how many apps I opened, the response it's fluid and without lags.
I have both the P9 and galaxy S7 because I can't decide which I like the best. So here are my thoughts:
The P9 is the best allrounder, it beats the S7 on nearly everything except the camera and overall functionality.
The camera in P9 is good but compared to the S7 it blow chunks! It is so big difference you can't ignore it.
The more money u have to pay for the S7 is worth it.
And then there is the Emui, it's more fluid than touchwiz but there is just so many stupid things with Emui, like not all media players work on the lock screen, so far I only got power amp, spotify and Google music to show up on the lock screen.
Despite of all this I still come back to the P9, it's just more fun.

On camera, the weak point of the P9 is video. Pictures are amazing. If you depend on video go for s7. If you just wanna take pictures the P9 is absolutely fine.
Also check out the Nougat beta for the P9 on youtube, from my experience so far Huawei has been very good with updates. And the Nougat rom (EMUI 5.0) will change things a lot in terms of software.
And the hardware is amazing. USB C, full metal body (Glass backs are a no go for me personally) and no camera bump. FP reader is perfect. Everything is fast and smooth, I've seen no slowdowns at all and battery is great too (2 full days minimum for me).
If you like to flash custom roms and stuff and use CM etc, one look in the dev thread will show that custom kernels/roms are just now slowly coming on. Recovery, root and xposed are all working fine though.
I went for the P9 over the S7, because it has way better price/performance ratio and for me better hardware design. It's just a much more interesting phone to me.
The P9 will give you more bang for the buck. Very fluid UI (no freezing, stuttering or random reboots). Everything just works (bluetooth, wifi - I get wifi in the house in places where I didn't get any with my LG G3 and OnePlus 2). Camera is great for still photography. Video quality is still pretty good even though it doesn't do 4K or have OIS. And the fingerprint scanner is just ridiculous... Takes just 3 or 4 taps to set up and works lightning fast every single time. Phone design is very sleek and feels great in hand (no camera hump neither!). Battery life is pretty good with about 4 to 5 hours of SOT. On slow days it can last 1.5 - 2 days.
EMUI takes some getting used to and takes some setting up to get everything working the way you want to, but that just means the initial set-up process is just a wee bit longer than on other phones.
If you don't like the look (like me), just install Nova Launcher and an icon pack of your choice. That'll give you double tap to sleep as well!
As for theming: there's quite an active theming community for EMUI on Google Plus.
With Nova launcher, icons and an EMUI theme running you can get close enough to a stock experience.

Question Request - Galaxy Note 8.0(GT-N51xx) or Galaxy S3 TouchWiz home and Camera ported to Galaxy Tab A8? (Android 12 Snow Cone with One UI 4.1)

Don't really think this is possible but can it be? I ultra super hate the iPhone-ish camera and the Launcher in One UI. There are some 3rd party launchers that can partially imitate S3 or Note 8.0 launcher but they are still quite different. I also miss the metallic camera UI. This Galaxy Tab A8 is the only tablet I have so I want to use it. I never had S3 or same-generation devices, and that is why I managed to get S3 camera working on S4 mini which I have. But most of the S3 or S4 apps cannot be directly installed even in S5 Marshmallow, they crashes! So I have doubt that the launcher and camera can be ported to Snowcone but there isn't even S3 styled camera out there for any devices. In XDA there was Galaxy S3 launcher ported to any ICS devices, but this didn't work even in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on S4, of course not on Galaxy Tab A8 Android 13 Red Velvet Cake(before I upgraded to Snow Cone).
could it be possible to do it?

Have you thought about installing LOS 19.1 (Android 12)? It doesn't have One UI and you can install a different camera app.
I also used LOS but was not comfortable to use. don't think there are other camera app I like.
