Any Projected Date for Lollipop on T-Mobile Note 4?
T-Mobile has yet to update the Note 2 from Jellybean to KitKat. Makes me wonder, how they will approach the Note 4, any idea?

Seeing as the new instruction manuals just came out for the S5/Note 4 and they were updated for Lollipop, pretty soon. There isnt a definitive date, probably by March.

If I were to guess this month or next month

My guess is in maybe four months. The update will come out for international most likely first. Than Tmobile will get it 2-4 months later lol

That's the answer I was looking for, argh T-Mobile, thanks!

But I will hope that's not the case!

I don't know cause when I had my M8 tmobile was really fast with the updates posting a mere days after the official release so I'm hoping for the same.

It's being tested right now on some of the US Note 4 variants. I'd guess within the next month or 2. But as always, Tmobile may take their sweet time.

It's all just speculation. Longing for it won't make it happen any sooner. TMO will drop it when they get around to it.

I know this is a bit off topic but why did the older Galaxy S5 get Lollipop ahead of the much newer Note 4 that cost a lot more? I'm confused. Is the S5 Samsung's flagship and not the Note series?

I've read the S series is Samsung's flagship and the Note series is just for showing off what they can cram into a phone.

Where's My Lollipop?! I'm Hungry! I knew this was going to be a long wait.

They are now pushing lollipop to note 4 in Poland and south Korea.

Lollipop for snap dragon in 910f... so if aomeone can port it ?? or idk if we can just flash it

Even if it comes out next month, I am going to wait 2-3 months after. Will xposed and Wadham work on it?
That might be close to Note 5 release.

I look forward to the new Dialer in Lollipop. I enjoy using Google Keyboard, wish Samsung could have revamped their's.

Upgrading Phone: Note 3 or Note 4?

I am a Sprint customer and currently own a Lg Optimus G. I am ready for an upgrade and am gonna go for a 2 year contract, my question is should I go for the previous Note 3 for only $99 ? Or get the new Note 4 for $299 ? I was also considering the G3 but with the problems I had with the Opimus Im not sure if I want to go back to LG, plus the Note seems to offer a lot of cool features I am interested in. Also is there any new news on the Note Edge? Ive only heard of it not seen it. Thanks for any help.
the note 4 is a great phone just go with the latest and greatest! The edge is coming out on the 14th for ATT and i know that because i work for ATT but idk about the other carriers.
If you can wait another 3 to 4 months with upgrading, the Note 4 will probably drop another 150 in price. Honestly the difference in price between the 3 and 4 is not really justified.
You would not be disappointed with either choice but the Note 4 is definately a noticeably better phone. If you're going to keep it for two years, you're probably better off going for the newer phone if you Can afford it.

For me its not even close. Some say the Note 4 isnt enough of an upgrade over the Note 3, for me its a HUGE upgrade over it. The pen alone is far better on the note 4, but even the multitasking and the screen and the feel of the phone, and the faster Android L and so on and so forth... Id say go for the Note 4. Im currently using the Note 3 while my 4 is in the repairshop and I really miss a lot from the Note 4...

The Note Edge looks interesting, how much will it be?
I am thinking I will go with the newer Note 4 or Edge since I will have it for the next 2 years. It just sucks having to spend the extra $200 for it. Will there be a lot of developement for it? And any other phones (Sprint) that I shoyld take a look at before deciding? As I am still nit fully decided.
Note 4 without question, best phone I've had in years
Consider the Huawei Mate 7, and the Nexus 6. They are closer in regard to screen size, but for me they are merely big phones, lacking what makes the note 4 a great phone; spen, multitasking, the screen etc.

We need development? This phone is pretty close to perfect out of the box, it's the first phone I don't feel like I even have to root.

Should I?

That's funny...I'm getting pretty sick of waiting for a Lollipop update that's probably going to be almost identical to what I'm already running and and I've never hit near 8 hours SOT. Want to trade lol?
Note 4 is awesome, but I think you'll be singing a different tune in 2016 when the Note is three updates behind.

True, it will be dated, but Nexus phones age much better. The Nexus 5 is still a damn decent phone and gets plenty of support. There are days when I miss it vs. the Note. (Battery isn't great though in comparison.)
My point is that given their track record, if Lollipop is taking this long on the latest and greatest Note, imagine how long updates are going to take when they care even less a couple Android point releases down the line.
And I get 4.5-6 on a good day with the Note, and I'm actually pretty happy with that all things considered. The idle time is phenomenal as well. Three days of light use is not unusual for me.

If you want Lollipop flash it there are a bunch of good AOSP ROMS.
The key differences is the screen and the camera. Both are better on the Note 4.
As far as support goes if you root your phone support will last a long time, my Note 2 is already on AOSP Lollipop 5.0.2
As long as the phone has root, don't pick a phone based on software, you can flash whatever you want on it, pick a phone based on hardware.

I'm reluctant to try AOSP. I owned a Note 2, and CM was buggy as hell.
if your only purpose of switching is SOT let me tell you , you'll be quite disappointed.
You have a lot of people posting 8-9hrs of SOT but not matter what I try what rom i try what kernel i try there's no such thing happening for me.
You literally have to just have the phone on, with screen on without any timeout, doing absolutely nothing.

I personally would go with the note 4, i had the nexus 6 and wasn't impressed by it one bit, had a couple cool features but not compared to this. However, updates will be way faster on the nexus then on this...but the screen on note 4 in my opinion is way superior, i had to keep the brightness at like 85 percent to be able to see everything good, on here, i keep it at 25. Both fast though!
It took them a bit of time to work out all the bugs on CM on the Note2 but once they did it was WAY better than the stick ROM. CM11 on my Note 2 is the best it had ever run. WAY better than TW, better battery, and much faster.

To be honest, the only 3 reasons I went with the N4 were 1) the camera (now not so sure), 2) expandable storage through SD card (I could've just picked up the 64GB N6 and be ok) and 3) the pen.
P.S. @PunishedSnake Please refrain from the click-baiting thread names - clearly state what your question is in as much detail as possible in the subject of the thread to avoid members to have to click on it to find out what it's about.
The Note 4 is hands down better than the Nexus 6 when it comes to HARDWARE. Better camera, better screen, better battery life, IR blaster (remote control), comfortable to hold in hand, removable battery, expandable storage, etc. The only reason I would get the Nexus 6 is because of official support by Google as far as stock Android is concerned. Also the Note 4 will have a better resale value than the Nexus 6 if you decide to sell it. If you ever feel the need for a Nexus like experience with the Note 4 you can always root it to be more Nexus like.
I'd go ahead and return the nexus 6. And get the note 4.
I gave my nexus 6 to my mom.

I'm personally torn.
Having had both, and ultimately sticking w/ the Note 4 only because I still have a Nexus 5 to play around with, I'm just not in love with the Note 4. It's the first phone in the Note series I've owned, and while I enjoy the multi-view and S-Pen capabilities the best, both features are negated when running a non-TouchWiz ROM. Of course, that's to be expected, and not necessarily deal breakers, but I'm indifferent as to how long I'll stick around w/ the device.
To be fair, I should note that I was one of those who got a phone out of the "bad batch" w/ the camera issues, and didn't return it w/i 14 day window nor submit for RMA. Again, for what I personally use the phone for, even that isn't a deal breaker. And to be honest, the Lollipop based ROM I'm running now does hum like a butterfly and have NO complaints about battery life.
Depending on what's on the horizon in a few months, I may utilize the JUMP program or sell outright. Nice phone, for sure, but I think coming from a Nexus, I may be a bit underwhelmed. IMO, if you've come from TouchWiz, or are looking at the camera specs, go w/ the Note 4 and you won't be disappointed.

Note 4 & Android M

In a couple of days Google will show a preview of Android M ie Android 5.2 which going off rumours is more about memory optimizations & bug fixes & better battery life....we've heard that before!!!! basically what Lollipop should have been from the off.
So the Note 4 as we all know it isn't the greatest smartphone when it comes to getting updates, moreso if your in the UK when we with BTU handsets have to wait until most of the carriers have released updates first before the simfree gets it.
Obviously Android M will be on the Note 5 first at launch, then next the S6 & S6 edge will be next in line to get the update sometime before Christmas.
So what about the Note 4?
Well if the Note 3 is anything to go by then I think we be forgotten well into next year, the Note 3 BTU in the UK still hasn't received Lollipop yet while all of the UK carriers have had it a while now.
I personally think if we see it before the S7 launch next year, then we done well
but I'm not holding my breath tbh.
One of the many reasons why I now regret getting an unlocked Note 4.
I'm waiting for I/O before I make a decision but it's likely I'll be going back to a Nexus or flash Cyanogen.
I'd really like Google to hold the OEMs to account on updates, most are committed to 2 years of updates but if it takes them 12 months to release said update it's likely they'll get away with doing the minimum.
HTC are the only company to commit to a 90 day rollout atm, others should follow suit.

Try Cyanogenmod, if updates really matter to you then you won't regret it, and stock android is amazing

No point in guessing. Get the Nexus 6/Note 5 if you need android M (guessing it'll launch with lollipop and be updated in feb/march to android M). Updating older phones isn't really Samsung's thing, especially when they are busy working on newer handsets.
But the Note 4 isn't a old device it's only just over 6 months old now.
What i think the problem is with the Note series is 2 main reasons.
First they don't sell anywhere near as many as the S series because for alot of people the Note is just to big or to expensive on launch even with contracts.
Secondly because there is more going on within Touchwiz on the Note series ie S pen ect, it takes longer to debug the software before they release it.
The Note 3 is still a powerful & very capable Phablet, but now updates for that are few and far between, I wouldn't be surprised if the Note 3 doesn't get Android M even though it supposed to me more optimized, the likes of the Moto G & Nexus 4 & 5 will get it though.
What it points to if you like Samsung smartphones and want regular updates then don't buy the Note series while they are great on launch they soon forgotten by Samsung while they concentrated on the next big thing in case of the Note 4, the S6 now takes priority & the Note 5 to a certain degree in the Autumn for the first few months at least until the S7 launch next spring.
To me Samsung have a 6 month product cycle with the Note series in regards to regular updates before they put on the back burner somewhat, after that they concentrated more on the S series because even the S4 & S5 got lollipop before the Note 3 & Note 4 did.
Even though I really like my Note 4, I don't think i go down this route again with either the Note 5 or Note 6 depending on when i decide to buy a new phone, it probably be a Nexus next time around.
I am pretty sure that our phone will get android M if it is just a 5.2 release. Samsung may take a while, but eventually they update all their flagships. HTC may be faster but they promise updates for only a couple of smartphones. Even the One Mini 2 wont get lollipop...
I switched from two years with Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 combo to Note 4 a month ago. Even though Nexus 4 has android 5.1.1, it was full of bugs from the start. When you use a nexus you are kinda the beta tester. You get all the updates first, and all the bugs that come with new untested versions. Also Google can and will take months to release a point update to fix big bugs like camera crashes.
As someone already said, if you want nexus experience install Cyanogenmod or similar rom and you wont be far off.
I have BTU's (3 and 4), you just take whatever rom you want from Sammobile and flash with Odin, no need to wait at all. Knox at 0x0, job done. I'm currently on the French Note 4 ROM as it's the newest one out that's official.

I can't agree more with you. I left Samsung when I changed from the Note 2, which was the BEST phone I had ever owned. But it kept getting slower and slower, battery with every update was worse. So I changed to other phones and I really liked the other phones. I came back to the Note 4 thinking "Wow, awesome hardware, and Samsung is doing a great job with updates 2 years later" and I couldn't be more wrong. I'm thinking about just taking the hit and selling my Note 4 and going for the Nexus 6. But I see the Nexus 6 has its own issues. I also thought about the Xperia Z3 as Sony takes pretty good care of their devices in terms of software, and I see that they are also having issues. It seems like Android 5.0.1 is a terrible update for ALL phones. Since the Nexus 6 is on 5.1, and it seems to have fixed most major problems, I'll wait a month or so to see if Samsung fixes anything. If they don't, I'll just send Samsung off and never buy another darn samsung device again!!!

DBT is the German unlocked model haha.
How's your battery life?
And if I might ask, do you have:
-lag when pressing multitasking button?
-lag when reviewing picture recently taken?
My 2 cents is, just because there is a new Android version doesn't make lollipop rubbish and it certainly doesn't make the note 4 a bad phone. If the note 4 got the new android a week after it was launched, the forum would then be full of threads saying how bad battery life was and how buggy the software was and "i'm going back to lollipop".
This happens every time a new Android version comes out, with all phones, without fail.
It is human nature to want what you haven't got.

The battery life isn't too bad - off charger at 6am, an hour's screen time and a few calls today in an area with very poor signal (countryside) and I'm on 77%. Graph says 2 days left at current rates. Hasn't been as good as that previously but I was running Nova launcher with the entire home screen full of widgets. I'm back on a more plain TW home screen with just a couple of widgets.
Edit: I have got rid of the multitask lag via this tip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/help/fix-lag-delay-hitting-multitasking-t2939700 and I don't really think there's a noticeable lag from camera to gallery.
every Android phone has some sort of defect or issue nowadays. Apparently theres some battery swelling issue on the N6 and whatnot, among others..Every other vendor gets poor updates, Nexus 9 was slower to update than samsung devices and that device SUCKS (i own one, and its the worst tablet ive ever seen).
Sadly, if you want that feeling that the manufacturer cares about your device and will update it/own issues...Apple is the only route...Ill probably get the 6s or 6plusS this year, AOSP camera apps arent as good as the OEM ones, but using TW roms is cancer.

I suppose in every batch there are some bad batches. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, which runs FASTER than my Note 4. This just isn't right. I can multitask like a champ with that tablet, and so much more stable and reliable...
I'm somewhat disappointed with my Sammy phone (Note 4)... But i'll give it some time and see if Sammy can fix some of these issues. If not, then I'm done with Samsung. I had the G3 and it was an awesome phone, too, until Lollipop ruined the experience with lags and battery issues. Why do these OEMs update if they know they're having issues? Samsung MUST know about these issues, and yet, they still release new ROMS that don't fix them.

Personally I think snap camera is better than the TW stock camera, way more options to fine tune.
I doubt that the Note 5 will ship with M, Its the Dev release that has come out only just now... the Note 5 is likely to drop around November so thats 5 months.

Agreed, Android M will be released around the time that the Note 5 will be released, so no way Samsung will have it on their Note 5 already. They need at least 2 months to adapt it.

Note 4 to LG G4 Pro/Note

Something, maybe the pro/note will be released/announced on Thursday. I didn't sidegrade to the note 5 for reasons discussed elsewhere (ie unavailable in UK, no sd slot or removable battery and appallingly slow upgrades by Sammy).
So looking out for the next big thing ( ) which won't be Samsung until they start listening to their customers rather than trying to copy apple....
Now the big question is whether or not to wait until 2016 releases to get something which is a fairly big upgrade from the n4 or try the LG.
I doubt this will come with the 820 chip so the difference between this and my note 4 will likely be a fingerprint scanner and 5.8" screen. The rest will be fairly comparable unless they launch with a really high end finish which has been touted (and denied!).
Just wondering where other note 4 users are at, especially those who upgrade when the next best thing is launched and have had their note 4 for 12 months and are wanting to try something new....:good:
Same thoughts here
I'm keen to see what comes out the Google event today. I've been toying with the idea of leaving the note 4 behind and moving to the nexus range. My opinion is, if you want quick, fast reliable android updates nothing is going to beat the Nexus range.
To be honest, fault apple all you want, but they certainly got the whole software upgrade down to a T.
Nobody has had their Note 4 12months unless they had a test unit.
I have had my Note 4 since launch week, and I have decided to wait until next year. Nothing released in 2015 is worth moving to from a Note 4. The Snapdragon 810 phones overheat and have crap battery life, 808 phones have weak GPUs, MediaTek...the less the bettes. The 2015 Samsung phones are just iPhone Clones.
Nothing worth getting in 2015.

If LG actually stops faffing about with crappy capacitive styluses on downgraded variants and puts a real active digitizer pen in there, be it Wacom, N-trig or anyone else (preferably Wacom for tablet PC/Galaxy Note compatibility reasons), maybe we'd have a Galaxy Note competitor when we need it most.
Literally every other phone line, Nexus included, is irrelevant to me without that.
But until that happens or Samsung snaps to their senses with the Note 6, the only alternative to the Note 4 is another Note 4.
With all that said, a lot of people are on two-year contracts for their phones anyway, though that's quickly getting abandoned here by every carrier that isn't AT&T. Upgrading after just one year seems a bit hasty, and when you're coming from a Note 4, you're probably going to be downgrading in some respect.
Hasty? Only because THE key player who year on year improved the note took a backward step! In the UK even the phone shops don't understand why the N5 wasn't launched here! Although its not an upgrade...I normally upgrade at least to the newest note each year and even tried the OPO mid term and got a little bored of the Note 3! However I soon went back to my old pal again!!!
I wouldn't mind so much if Samsung kept devices up to date and paid attention to vulnerabilities like Stage fright. I think it is disgusting the way they flog a top quality and top dollar device then employ a small team/probably just a one man band to maintain their huge range. THIS is why I'm happy to ditch them! They need to learn quickly or continue to suffer further under target performances. Amazes me how quickly a new device can be launched but their software team are exactly the opposite!
As for Nexus, its not really comparable to the Note series (excluding the Note 5 which is just a big S6 with a pen).
Maybe the 820 chipped devices will be the growler to wait for in the new year! Samsung will probably be planning stagefright fix and 'M' mid 16!

if you have 5.1.1 which I still don't - and how long did it take to issue a fix?? TOO long. And that's my point.

if im not wrong besides carrier phones in us note 4 also got it pretty fast. note 4 is actually getting all updates pretty fast but i dont know why there is a big drama among note 4 users. only regional updates are very stupid.
clearly not in the international (uk) phone! It appears many other areas have received it but not this. And that's why its a drama.
Without fast updates this will probably only get worse, the next time an exploit has been found and a bug tries to hack it before a fix can be deployed.

like i said regional updates are stupid. waiting more than 1 or 2 month for an update which is released for other countries is worst about samsung.

tempting? I think it looks good. Liking some of the new features but the back could do with an upgrade! No UK launch imminent though grrr
after a disappointing experience with the G3 (which is still a decent phone, but the bootloader needing a hack to flash roms and build quality put me off) I ditched it for the note4. I'd be a bit wary of LG phones. Most 'flagship' phones seem to be using the snapdragon 808 or 810 for the moment unless i'm mistaken. not sure they're really worth the upgrade. I would wait until 2016.
if samsung makes a decent note6 again with a SoC which isn't a pain in the ass to port to i think that could be very interesting.
I'm rather interested in the MS Talkman 950XL. Windows phone ecosystem seems a happy medium between Android and Apple.
Nexus 6P was my option but then again no microsd/removable battery.
Right now my Note 4 is really smooth with 5.1.1. And samsung announced theyre gonna release Marsmellows for Note 4, so Im just gonna wait another year.
Lg 4 pro isnt that big of a upgrade compared to Note 4.
Also my next phone must have infrared like N4. I cant live without it.

Samsung updates very pathetic.

The updates for samsung note series has become worst than ever. They neither commit the updates for a date and even if they commit they never honor it. Never buy a Samsung phone after this.. Small companies are better off.
One of the reasons I switched to nexus 6p.
Yep but samsung is better than most other phone makers LG is terrible
I'm not complaining, MM will eventually released. Till then my note 4 still rocks and there are plenty CM13 roms here.
I really don't understand people moaning about updates. Grab a custumrom if you really want Android 6.0.1 so bad.
Newer firmware isn't always better. My note 4 does a really great job on 5.1.1
My iPad 3 has the latest ios 9.3 beta but it lags like hell which it didn't do when it had ios 7.1.2 on it
Stop crying like a little kid who wants candy but don't get it.
Mate you think it's bad for the note. Should see how bad it for the s5. My Mrs bought hers same time I got the note the 4 and hers is still on 5.0.1 and all her widgets seem to freeze up. She swears she's never buying a Samsung phone again and says she's getting a iphone ?

The note 4 isn't so bad for updates tho imo. Could be worse but I agree Samsung need to sort it out
My battery's sucks on 5.1.1
LG does a great job in updating the last 1.5/2 years. My G3 got MM update around christmas and it rocked. Much more fluid and snappy. And new UX too (LG's TW). Didnt like the screen from the G3. Will see if we get the same MM as the Note 5 got today. Waiting for theme store because i dont like the green samsung uses in TW. Btw... updaye cant be very far away isnt it cause note5 got it today and both devices are very much the same hadwarewise.

I'm rocking kitkat by choice. Had 5.1.1 and M on my Nexus 5. Much prefer KK for the Note. Not all 'upgrades' are worth waiting for.

Same here, no complains.
Loved my devices and not bother with updates, comes or
not....don't really care.
What I really don't understand is that why people
getting angry either with delayed updates or the
manufacturer, they did not force anybody
to buy their products, isn't it?
Either we buy or not, they don't mind.
I buy my device because I think its best for me, that's all
Peace everyone!
samsung core prime sm g360h lolipop castom rom need
Until Samsung utilizes the same universal update process that Apple and Google Nexus device uses, there will always be issues with Updates. Even if there is a MM update tomorrow, it most likely will not reach your device for quite some time. Unfortunately, the Note 4 is starting to show its age (Or Sammy is doing something to make it lag... Alot!), plus the Note 5 never came to Europe which is starting to get MM.
To be honest with the XDA community, Samsung Flagships were always my favorite due to the extra perks like removable battery and sd slot. If they decide to keep the s6 route and also prevent certain regions from buying their phones, then I will have to find an alternatives and there are very few out there without on screen navigation buttons. (My main problem with Nexus devices)
Yes their updates are very pathetic. I am currently on an AOSP rom, my next phone is going to be a Nexus.. never going to buy any Samsung phone again!

Your post seems to accuse samsung of being worse and smaller companies being better with no facts to back these statements up.
Its very hard and a bad choice for any company to commit to a date of when they will release an update. What are you looking for in an update and there was no agreement that you would receive updates after you purchased the phone. You just expect them to happen when you want.
I have no problems with my note 4, an update is welcome but more of a inconvenience and a risk. With the updates are you referring to Marshmallow?
Why dont you go AOSP or CM
If you wanted timely update you should've gone with a Nexus or an iPhone. I, and probably some people here, bought a Note 4 for its awesome hardware and knowing that update will come late but it will come eventually. Samsung has actually been better on handling update. Rushing things will mess things up, my sister's LG G3 got 5.0 a few weeks after Google released it but it was buggy as f**k and it's dead. I'd rather have Samsung play it safe and iron out the update first then getting a buggy update.

I considered all factory images on my Nexus 5 to be Beta version software. Honestly CM nightlies were better sorted out than the official firmware and were fixed when there was an issue.

even My LG G Watch R receive android 6.0.1 xD.....and only now Note 5 in South Korea receive the Android 6.0.1. Soo maybe at end of April or at April fools day, we receive Android 6.0.1
It's really pathetic how easy is for some people to defend Samsung's software incompetence.
Facts
Note series is a flagship, costs even nowadays a lot of money.
MM is out for quite some time, not even note 5 got it yet.
Custom rom ? Sure, I m in. Of course without the bloat my note4 is another device. But guess what: bye bye warranty. Thanks for this shamesung.
Personally, I bought the note 4 for the second time 1 month ago. New and pristine.
I swear to God I rooted it and kissed the warranty goodbye after 2 hours of wrestling with THE BLOAT. Samsung software engineers should die in shame if they check my note 4 and compare its performance with a stock device.
If this is not a problem for you, it's not my fault you got a perception issue.
but i want revert back to 4.4 :crying:
I'm staying on 4.4.4 for now by choice.
Had L and M on my Nexus. More of a fan of KK.
