[Q] US Cellular Moto X 2nd Gen 5.0 Update - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any way I can get Lollipop running on my US Cellular Moto X (2nd Generation). As far as I know they haven't pushed out an update and they've been pretty quiet if they even will. If anyone knows, let me know! Thanks!

It's possible to get 5.0 on XT1093, but buggy and difficult. Not really worth it IMO. The Liquid Smooth, CM, Ressurection, etc custom ROMs will work for you though.
A little birdy whispered in my ear it won't be too much longer before Lollipop officially comes to USCC's Moto X 2014...

And where have you heard that it won't be long until the USCC version gets an update? As far as I can recall they don't have an amazing track record with updating devices quickly...

I agree they haven't been known for timely updates for most devices. However, they have done very well with Moto X and Nexus 6 so far, and considering Lollipop is currently running on LESS THAN 0.1% of all Android devices it's safe to say they're not exactly "behind" on the Moto X 2014 either. They got the original Moto X updates extremely quickly, faster than or on par with major carriers in fact.
I have heard that Lollipop soak testing is underway for our device. I'm not a soak tester myself, but this is what I have heard.

Good points there. I went and signed up for the Motorola Feedback Network, so we'll see what happens with that.

Now that soak is over, soak testing started 1/16, probably the reason you missed getting in. borxnx was right on the money! I'm pretty happy with how fast Motorola got the soak out and final firmware. I can tell you that Lollipop runs like a dream on the XT1093, and you are all in for a treat!

Before you accuse me of cheating, try reading my original post more thoroughly. I was part of the soak test! Also, if you looked at my original screenshot, the baseband alone would show you that it was developed for US Cellular (USC). I have posted the rest of the screenshot so there is no doubt in your feeble mind that I am running official firmware! Also, this firmware was the final soak version. I do not know if the OTA will be a different version from what I currently have, as I have not received the OTA myself. I hope this satisfies your pessimism.

I won't receive OTA because I am in different system. My phone is XT1097 and now is XT1085 (chinese). that's why I was asking about where you get the firmware because I want an american image to test the moto voice, chinese version is not working properly, but I see your post below that you are in soak program.
Just a comment, no matter if you are in chinese, american, european you can always have your original baseband with different system, even when is not meant to use it, that's why we asked about it.
regards!

so, you loose signal at all. is weird, because the OTA has patchs for every partition, even for the modems, in you case you have a problem with the modem, you need to flash your stock modem (NOH and fsg.mbn files) via fastboot
Hope this help you

Maybe he can help you. He has the stock firmware. You only need to ask.
By the way, if there is any system image of your phone out there you can use the modems, is indifferent if is kit Kat or Lollipop, they will work in both systems.
Good luck

Yes and that's because you are trying to flash and old stock recovery version, if you want to downgrade you have to use different steps here is the post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/lollipop-to-kit-kat-t2986044
In your case you only need to flash the NOH and fsg files. By now I am not at my computer but here is my post check the steps to recover signal after an OTA update

No, the last version is 4.4.3 and if you really need to update (there is no reason to do) first install a retail version firmware for your X model. (If there)

First, the person who answered you should have asked which device you are using (model number), and who your carrier is.
Second, the majority of us here don't recommend that you flash another carrier's firmware to your phone. Many things can go wrong, and if you ever revert back to the correct firmware, you have to use extreme caution to make sure you don't flash an OLDER firmware version to the phone, which can brick it!!! If you choose to flash a different firmware to your phone, do it at your own risk. You could end up with a paperweight.
Third, both the 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 updates are very MINOR updates. It isn't worth bricking just because you aren't patient, simply to (possibly) get another hour or two of battery life or a few small bug fixes.
I highly recommend that you simply be patient. Your carrier WILL release 4.4.4 eventually, and at that time you can simply take the over-the-air update assuming you haven't modified your /system or flashed custom recovery.
the update won't be noticeable to the users. it is bug fixes and a few tweaks. better to wait for 5.0 to come out

Slight correction... that is NOT the complete firmware list.
That site contains a copy of any SBF found or leaked... Sometimes it takes weeks after an OTA is pushed before a leaked SBF of that version is found and posted (think ATT 4.4.2)
They are "leaks" in the fact that they are not meant to be released to the public. As for how they "make it out" to end up on that site, well that is a different discussion that I don't want to get into.
That site is neither owned, operated, nor supported by Motorola.

also if you have had a locked phone PREVIOUSLY but unlocked it later, and you are using a carrier thats not the orginal one, I think that could also factor in as to why you are not getting updates. For example, if you had a moto x for ATT and you unlocked it to use for TMOBILE, you might have a delayed update or in some cases no update at all. Just my 2 cents.

It does not matter that your phone is unlocked. This is totally unrelated to receiving updates. Just FYI, NO ONE with a Moto X has received 4.4.4 yet (except MAYBE soak-testers). Only a handful of carriers are on 4.4.3.
The 4.4.3 upgrade was CANCELLED do to a bug being found, and instead, all the variants that hadn't released 4.4.3 are going to be upgraded STRAIGHT to 4.4.4 (skipping 4.4.3 entirely).
I don't think you understand just how much testing has to go into these upgrades before they are released.
Here is an EXCELLENT article that should explain it for you. The part you are interested in is called "The Big Hold-Up"

There is a downgrade protection that does not let you flash previous firmware which is only bypassed by boot loader unlocked. There currently is no way to relock until newer firmware comes out.
My patience has wore thin day by day.
What's the heck wrong with Motorola?
I think they were working on the memory issue before re-releasing the OTA update. Still, I'm surprised it's taking them this long.

No i didn't, one of my 2 G stuck on the 21.11.23. However, I just have a chat with a motorola customer service. Giving them the IMEI, and he/she confirms me that the batch update for my specific phone will be delivered within next-week, which is not a so bad news.
So if you're out of patience. It's a good way to contact Motorola
Let's hope that s/he tells you the truth.
Please let us know on or before 1/19, which is Monday after next week.
All fingers crossed.
Makes me glad I did not wait. Been on 5.0.1 for 3 weeks now
I can't wait too, it's making me so frustrated, hope they release it soon...
LOL
How sick Motorola is!
Others do have 5.0.2 and a lot of us still stuck with 4.4.4.
Even the older version of XT1063 does have Lollipop but the new ones.
Beautiful!
Alright, there is a new, hopefully it's a good news.
I don't know when it was happening but this morning, I checked my dad's xt1063 (21.11.13) and bam, there is an update to 22.21.28. I have not updated it yet, will do after work.
Also, I haven't checked my mom's xt1063 (also running 21.11.13) so I don't know the update is only on Dads or both.
Will report later.
As I expect the unexpect, my Dad's is ready to go but my Mom's is still stuck with 21.11.23. LOL
Weird!
Hell, it's ugly.
I wouldn't do it on my Mom's even when update is available.

[Q] Anyone with dual-sim European Moto G 2014(XT1068) received lollipop OTA?[see pg3]

I'm getting very little and conflicting information on the matter. I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong with my phone. This is because I get the sense that the European user base for this model is incredibly small and I fear Motorola may have just forgotten about us.
I would need someone who has a XT1068 (that's the dual-sim version) and who brought it in Europe to confirm whether he/she has received any lollipop update through regular OTA.
I understand Indian users have gotten lollipop for at least a few weeks now, and that you can flash lollipop on XT1068 whether European version or not.
Also if you're someone who has kept track of different OTA's for the different models/regions, please let me know if I should start being impatient or if you have educated guesses about when European dual-sim users should expect an OTA. Thanks.
If you read post #71 and #83 here you´ll see ,that there still is no release date for the european XT1068 Dual-Sim:

I was a nexus 5 user 2 weeks back and among the first to run android 5.0 lollipop (obviously i flashed factory image , prior to that i used dev preview )
I never had the memory leak but yes the battery life became awful....wifi battery drain was also present and pretty random in nature... So exchanged it wid my not to geeky bro as i needed a dual sim phone.
If moto fixes those issues...then i guess the wait for the update is worth...
I'm convinced it will be a worthy update! ?

I think that is good news. Also today I receive a few updates from Google Play and right now the launcher app drawer and folder is like Lolipop launcher. Maybe Lolipop is near.

Guess we are going to wait a little longer here in Europe...

Flash Android One (Project Fi) to regular Moto x4?

Hi guys,
Is there an option to flash Android One (Project Fi) to regular Moto x4?
Reef2009
Not now, but I really want it. Is very dificult to get a Moto X4 version Android One outside of USA... :crying:
No, but a guy in the custom roms thread was able to flash the retail Moto x4 ROM onto his Fi phone (as a last resort to recover his bricked device).
I really want this feature in moto... As I don't know the regular moto will get updates like Android one or not, as I know obviously the Android one get updates faster but the regular version will get same updates even if its late or if the Android one version will updated we can update the regular moto with root and custom recovery. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I don't think you'll ever be able to apply Android One Updates to a Retail model phone (even with root and/or custom recoveries). They are just too different in some basic /system features. In fact, right now; just rooting the phone screws up your ability to apply the updates for the Android One version TO the A1 phone. Even if you UNroot.
I just hope either the developers fix that or Motorola releases a true "factory image" that we can restore that will let us truly go "back to stock" (and begin receiving updates again). If Moto does that, you should be able to apply THAT to you Retail version (turning it into an A1 phone). That's your best hope.

There's plenty of interest, but right now we've only got a couple of people working on it and mightysween seems pretty sharp. He's our best hope right now.

can we follow this person somewhere on social? is he here on xda forum? can you share a link to some of his work? just asking..
I am not understanding why one would buy a regular X4 if they wanted the Android One version.
Why not just buy the preferred version, initially?

So, what is the advantage of converting to an Android One version of Fi is not available?

The retailer one comes out full of annoying bloatwares. Actually I don't care about Fi Project, I just want have the cleanest UI possibile with only the strictly necessary. Oh, there are the security patches and os updates aspects too.

This reminds me of older non-nexus phones- we would have to grab the OTA and use tools to construct the stock rom in a form that was flashable/modifiable. In the pre-lollipop? times, the patches were file based, so it was much easier to modify just specific files. The OTAs are now block based, so they just modify the atomic blocks that need changing, so you need an exact copy of the file system in order to apply the OTA.
