Kevlar is basically plastic and there is no metal in the OEM backing.
That said, its just a coating on a plastic cover. The cover is not made out of kevlar.

Well here are the major differences between the one I picked up on eBay and the OEM cover on my friends Turbo.
1) The colors are rather different. Mine is almost fire engine red.
2) His backing is tacky, mine is very slippery.
3) His back feels "solidly built", mine indents anywhere you touch in on the back.
4) Most importantly, his Turbo adheres rather tightly to his magnetic car mount, mine .... let's just say the ballistic nylon held better.
I am going to try one more from eBay as another add States "metalized backing". It's probably the same junk, but I'll just file a claim if it's not the OEM part (or exactly like the OEM).

Silicone cases?

How are the silicone cases suchs as these http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38.l1313&_nkw=xperia+silicone&_sacat=See-All-Categories
from Ebay?
I have never seen one in real life. Is the phone harder to operate with the case? Does it bulk up the phone too much?
I used to own a HTC tytnII (without a silicone case) which is slightly bulkier than the Xperia, and so if I could handle the HTC's slight bulk, then I would assume the Xperia w/ silicone case would be of similar size, no?
I wouldn't get a silicone case, they are very responsive to touch and uncomfortable.
I mean responsive as in they always get in the way, and you know how silicone is, it flexes and it bends.
They also feel uncomfortable for me.
This is about silicone cases for all phones and mp3 players.
I'd rather let me Xperia scratch than to be protected by that obstacle.
i would have agreed to u ..but the battery cover of my X1 got little scratches from coins in the pocket and now i am worried.
maybe leather covers?
those silicone cases do their job for a cheap price, I've used a few of them on a few makes of phones & they've been fine, but idd regards they feel a bit weird at 1st as in their like a condom but once u get used to them their ok I'd say.
Or you can indeed go buy a leather case & they vary from cheap .HK 1's to proporta etc... again I've had a few, even used expensive 1's.
I'm currently using a silicone case now & then with my diamond but mostly I have it in a leather flip style case, also got 2 leather pouch style cases...
My advice to any 1 who buys an expensive pda/ phone is to protect it 1 way or another with either a case or a pouch oh & always fit a screen protector also
Or don't care & get your pda scratched or chipped etc...
I had similiar one when I owned Touch Pro.
the fitment is ok (not the best) but I think the quality is at best average.
I just bought this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-Silicone-...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
Since I like silicone cases better than regular leather or pouch ones.
Silicone Cases are Great
I've been using silicone cases for years. They do not bulk up the phone, and they give great protection. All the ports are available, and the buttons usable. And, they're inexpensive!
is the optical pad covered using the silicone case?

Yes, they block the pad, at least the ones off of eBay do (I just recieved one)
There are some rubber cases that leave that area uncovered. You can find them on eBay as well. Although I don't now how the keyboard slide function works out with those.
the ones from hong kong off ebay are not very good, I have stopped using mine, so anyone thinking of buying one just avoid them.... I can post some pics if you want....
Clear Plastic Instead of Silicone
You might want to try a clear plastic case. I bought a couple from Ebay and like them better than the silicone ones. The ones I bought were about $3.25 each. Since they're clear, the allow the beauty of the phone show through. Plus, none of the buttons are covered.

Poetic Element slim aluminum case

Has anyone gotten one of these? I've been tempted to order one but wanted to see if anyone could share an opinion on it. It looks pretty slick for $15.

I bet it would interfere with the NFC chip because it's conductive. It does look pretty cool though.
Hmm that does look nice. Might replace the cheap eBay TPU case I currently have
Does any case work with nfc? I have to take my moko leather case off to use it. I don't care since I only wanted to spend the free $10 but I thought pretty much no case would work.
At that price, I wouldn't be surprised if the "aluminium" part is really just plastic with a brushed metallic-looking coating...something that you can see on some Galaxy Nexus cases and battery covers. If it were really aluminium I'd imagine the case would have to cost over $20. Also it looks like the carbon fiber insert is exactly in the spot where the NFC chip is, which might be their way of letting the NFC chip work through the case.

It shouldn't be plastic, the description states:
soft-coated Anodized Aluminum hard shell
...anodized aluminum shouldn't involve any plastic, and if it does they are grossly mis-representing their product. Which isn't like Poetic. They are actually a pretty decent company, that cares about the opinion of their customers. I had to deal with them when they first released their leather cases and were having magnet issues. Their customer service is top notch.
Regardless, I'm ordering an element case today. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have a tag in my car, behind the plastic in the console, and can beep it through that plastic, and through a folded over moko slim fit case. Thats like half an inch total almost of penetration.. That's weird that you have to take your case off.
The nfc may... go through this aluminum. If it was steel there'd be a less likely chance.

I ordered this case yesterday- it looks really nice and very reasonable at $15 for a metal case.
My update today lists "Wednesday August 29, 2012 - Tuesday September 4, 2012" as my delivery date range.
Don't know if the aluminum case will effect the GPS- but I guess I'll find out soon enough

Bonus :good:
Got my case yesterday- it's plastic with a large aluminum insert. So- it's not all metal. It's really plastic w/some metal on the back.
BTW- it's only a cover for the back of the N7 not the front.
There's some photos of the case (white version) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856371

That's kind of a bummer. They really should be more up front about that. It doesn't state anything about plastic in the description. Glad I didn't order yet.

Yeah- I really don't see how they can claim "soft-coated Anodized Aluminum hard shell" when it's a 100% plastic shell with a thin aluminum billet simply glued on to the center back side of the plastic cover. Inaccurate advertising to be generous!
At least shipping was free- but I requested a RMA because it is not a "soft-coated Anodized Aluminum hard shell" at all- it's cheap plastic.

Can the thin aluminum be peeled off?
I like the hard plastic shell, but I don't like the big rectangular text logo.

Possibly- but it would most likely leave a sticky glue residue behind. If you've ever seen the way they attach the metal engraved nameplates to the marble base of trophies- that's how the aluminum plate is attached to the plastic cover- some sort of glue that's bonded to the metal- then pressed on to the plastic for a (semi) permanent bond.
$15 seems a bit steep for a simple plastic back cover for the N7...
Here's my first look of the Poetic Element case:

Thick rubber case <$10?

Does anyone know where I can get a thick rubber case for less than $10? I've tried eBay but the one's I ordered are super thin and won't help much if dropped.
Good, one piece TPU+Plastic case with reinforced corners

Sure, I ordered a few cases from eBay myself, and I finally settled on one. Do a search on eBay for "Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Hybrid Hard Case Gummy Kick Stand" you can also search for "Samsung note 2 jolt case"
I have no idea why they would call it gummy. The entire case is a combination of matte-finish TPU (not silicone) and plastic (one piece case). The back is made of two layers, hard plastic + TPU (the textured part). It also has reinforced corners. Good protection without too much bulk. It was involuntarily tested when my phone was dropped on a tile floor - not a scratch. The kickstand is cheap and a bit flimsy, but functional. I've considered other cases, but this one is growing on me. Price is under $10 shipped depending on the seller.

Thin case

Hi.
I'm looking for ultra thin case for LG G2. Can any reg. any good?
Also interested in this, I'm checking out the ones on ebay from China that reviewers have said is very thin (<1mm). But was hoping to find the thinnest possible case without having to resort to a skin.
The ultra thin ones from china are only good for scratch protection, but don't help at all (as I found to my cost) if the phone is dropped. I also found they're not very grippy, making it more likely that you will drop it.
Depending on your carrier, but the Vzw model Incipio DualPro is minimum bulk, buttons on the back are covered, and provides a good grip. The non Vzw one doesn't cover the buttons, unsure about the thickness comparison.
Not sure what super thin is, but I use the Tudia Melody and am a fan of it.
I've used the Incipio Feather. That is the thinnest case you can buy. It is also super awesome matte rubber like touch feel and high quality plastic. I just purchased a new one after original 2013 case was sort of a dingy blue.
http://www.amazon.com/Incipio-Feather-Case-Verizon-Packaging/dp/B00F4AYBPG
I just picked up the teal/light blue one the other day for $5 shipped. It is a little pricier now but normally run $24ish.
For as thin and skimpy as they are, my G2 looks flawless for having been dropped many times on concrete and hardwood. My case corners had a few scratches but the phone itself is protected. The case provides a small lip to protect the screen and grabs the corners to catch drops.
It is the only case I will buy.
Yesoo slim from amazon. Its the thinnest and has a great matte finish liket he nexus 5. Better than the super slick G2 back.

I've got two of these cases and have ordered two more: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOT-Ultra-T...Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=&hash=item20f131738a
Second two haven't arrived yet and I ordered two weeks ago but a long delivery time from China is to be expected. For ~69p delivered you can't go wrong!
Very thin, almost don't feel it other than it being a more pleasant matte texture. Not very hard wearing, mines got scratches on after about a month, but I intended for it to be sacrificial anyway as they are so cheap.
http://www.amazon.com/MPERO-SNAPZ-R...=1423222408&sr=1-4&keywords=mpero+lg+g2+snapz
This case is wonderfull. I ordered it, but can't use it because i use tempered glass protectors that case would work only with a smaller one glass or with plastic screen protectors. But it has the nexus feel and is extra slim. Try it guys, very cheap and very good quality
I personally do not like TPU cases. They are too thick and add a huge lip around the screen which makes it hard to get to the edge (especially on the LG G2's screen).
And all TPU cases feel the same to me. The Incipio Feather is a hard shell and snaps to the back. It is pretty difficult to remove, even after owning my last one for a year and a half.
I have one of these an its very unobtrusive, and more grippy than the bare phone - it clips on very securely and protects the corners which is all I want.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FRFT3PG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
BUT I suspect if you drop the phone the case won't last long - I've not dropped mine (fingers crossed a drop now isn't on the cards!) but my wife has one for her Moto G and it broke a piece off the corner when dropped on the corner - the phone was fine, but the case was junk, but at £2 for another it's not the end of the world and certainly stopped the phone getting damaged.

That probably won't work with the Verizon VS980 because our device is a little thicker then the other models due to Qi Charging. It is also basically the same thing as the Incipio Feather I posted, except the Incipio is specifically designed for the Verizon models thickness and different button size.
I've dropped my phone tons of times and the Incipio holds up nicely.

I've had 2 of these, and they are great. Very thin, and stylish... and grippy. I had to replace one because I dropped it right on the corner on concrete from about 4 feet up, and the corner of the case broke off, but the phone was only slightly damaged. Great case!

I have to agree, while no OtterBox, the Incipio feather has protected my phone well. Bought one off eBay for $10 and see the ones sold on Amazon have dropped in price as well.

Hybrid Armor Shockproof Tough

I bought this for $5 CAD from ebay and it's better than my crimson Otterbox Commuter case for OPO 3. This case offers much better drop protection and it has a deep camera cutout. It is bulkier than Otterbox but comes with better grip as well.
These are offered in various colours but i went with black.

its a typical matte finish rubber. Its thick and smooth. cut outs are also perfect.
i bought it too this weekend for 3 usd i think on aliexpress.
Right before I buy this, how are the buttons on either side? How are the cutouts?
Some ebay cases I get make the buttons really hard to press.
Also, I use a metal plate to attach my phone to my car mount, do you think a very, very thin metal plate could wedge between the soft/hard casing? Sorry I can't provide a URL, but if you know what a "Spigen CD Slot Car Mount" looks like, you'll see the plate I'm referring to.
Appreciate it!
