Otg stick for nandroid backup - G2 Accessories

Hey guys,
i am planning to Experiment with custom Roms/kernels etc. But to Start you also have to make a nandroid backup you now ;P and i don't want Them on my internal storage because they are so huge. Now my question: What otg stick can you recommend me? It should have fast r/w speed because i dont want to wait ages to finish nandroid backup. It should have 32gb less is not enough and more too expensive.
Has the g2 USB 3.0?
Thanks in Advance

The G2 does not support USB 3.0 speeds, but it works just fine with USB 2.0 anyway (it's not like the eMMC Flash-RAM inside the G2 or any other modern smartphone is gonna be capable of reading/writing at USB 3.0 speeds anyway).
I suppose in the long run it doesn't really matter which USB stick you choose as long as it has a microUSB connector on it - no sense dicking around with an OTG cable when you can buy sticks like this nowadays and things are much easier:

I got one of those last week (64GB version), works great with my G2 (ROM/kernel info in my sig). Speeds are roughly as expected, maybe 30-40MB/s reads and 20-25MB/s writes, it's fast enough for OTG operation since it's not plugged in constantly. Having the normal USB connector on the other end makes it a breeze to move files back and forth from the PC to the phone, etc, in situations where I may not happen to have a microUSB cable handy (rare thing since I carry such a cable and a charger in my cargo pants with me constantly).
Since I use Mi2Raw with my G2 to capture raw sensor data instead of "pictures" and they're 25MB each it does tend to use up a lot of space fast so, it's nice knowing I have the SanDisk stick around to move stuff over, and yes I do my Nandroid backups directly to the stick as well (currently has like 12GB of backups on it just in case).
Got it for $25 at Fry's recently during a sale with a "promo code" for being on their email list, works for me. 32GB version of this stick or a similar one should be $20 at most if you shop around.
There's a bunch of these types of sticks available nowadays, I highly recommend them unless you prefer to use an actual OTG cable (I can still use that option too since this has a full size USB connector on it, obviously, and I do have an OTG cable).
Something to get you started...

(Here's a ) USB to Tab charging cable that actually works!

I have been sent a USB to USB cable to try by PowerTraveller as i was having trouble charging my Tab from their eXtreme battery pack. I have now tried it on the battery pack and just as importantly from regular USB ports (on my work PC).
It actually works!
Go here for the cable:
https://powertraveller.com/iwantsome/spares/ptgalaxytabcable/
My pic of it as it's so new they haven't put one on the site yet:

I bought a bunch of these:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-power-adapter-for-samsung-p1000-81753
And these work great. Works with any USB port.
Only thing it's charging only no data.
I have one of these little adapters, can use andy micro usb cable to charge, again no data, but can also use micro usb car chargers, and those for other phones, blackberries etc.
The connection's a little precarious, but that could just be mine, that and it was like $3 or something..
Thought i might drill a hole in it, make a keyring..
Superb !
Great to her about this accessories I just hope soon I will be able to get some kind of video connection for my GT-P1010, along with a kernel/rom that can send power as well as video signal to the usb connector that comes with the tab !
Am I asking to much here?, well dont know yet, time will tell, for now I just keep searching. Cheers to you all
And on top of all these, Im looking to buy another tablet (dont know which one yet!) and will give the P1010 to my mom who is fascinated with the device

REALLY like this thank you!
Now looking for a case!
Can someone confirm whether or not these adapters allow other usb devices besides the Tab to charge in AC mode?

just ordered one of these, we'll see how well it works in a couple weeks I guess.. Thanks!
i think i'll order one of each (in the posts above), you never can have too many chargers! (it'll be nice to have both charging and data in the same cable.) I bought a few diff ones from amazon that were for charging, but they only charge if you use the wall charger, won't charge off the laptop no matter what i try.
yeah, i like to have at least 3 cables.. 1 for home, 1 for work, and 1 to carry around/travel with..

Poetic Nexus 7 Case Mod

I hate dongles. There, I said it. I. Hate. Dongles.
With the OTG capabilities and the enormous (relatively) storage capability of SD cards these days, it seemed that using a dongle with the N7 was inevitable. So I took the plunge and got one. But what to do about strain relief and <sigh> that damned floppy dongle getting in my way all the time?
I added Velcro strips to the case and to the dongle in order to keep it in place and out of my way when I was using it. Two wide strips on the back of the case, and one on the front provide more than adequate anchoring so that the N7 can sit on my desk in landscape mode AND hold the dongle in place and out of the way without a problem. It also keeps the mini USB socket from sustaining any damage from the dongle flopping around.
Here's the photos of what I did and I'm very satisfied with the end result.

As long as it works for you admittedly otg cables and dongles are not very handy things, I'm sure someone could come up with an all in one solution that matches the base line of the tablet and looks like a short extension of it.
No luck yet but im hopeful
I have send email and a small drawing to a hand full of connector design companies . Asking them about a ribbon like micro usb connector something that would be very slim low profile.. IF i get someone willing to make them . i will start a thread asking for those wanting a low profile usb otg to buy into getting the minimum made. Its like to be about 300 connectors at 25 cents to 1.00 each... There is a unlimited use for such a plug for this and other devices ..
Just thought i would add it as i see the stressful post .. I have a similar thing for my nexus Its ugly tacky and i do not like it .
Nice pics thou
I did something similar to my Poetic case last night., I just used industrial strength velcro, and less of it. Here's a few pics. I'm at work, and in a low light environment, so the pictures aren't great...

Here's what's in it now, plus or minus a few things.
1 Sandisk Clip Zip
2 Micro USB Cable
3 Nexus 7 Charger
4 Short Ear Buds
5 Cheap Monoprice Portable Charger
6 Micro USB male to Micro USB female for portable charged
7 Sony MW600 Bluetooth (Love it, you can use any headphone with a 3.5mm jack)
8 2 USB OTG cables with a 32gb Sandisk Cruzer Mini (I store ROMs, Movies, Videos, and Titanium Backup files on it.)
I was highly skeptical of it at first, but it's pretty inexpensive, so I took a risk. It definitely holds everything in there solid. This one also has a zipper pocket on the back where I put lens wipes, microfiber cloths, etc. It slides right into the laptop compartment of my bag, and doesn't add a lot of bulk.
The only 2 problems I had with it were first, I thought I'd fill it up quick, but that definitely wasn't the case... I'm not gonna put lame stuff like ChapStick and pens in it. Second thing is I can never remember exactly how I put things, so it takes some guesswork, but it still keeps everything snug as hell. A good component for the Nexus 7, even though it isn't actually made for the Nexus 7.
I got it here on Amazon...

Thanks for sharing.
PS hope you're enjoying work.
I love that thing...looks awesome. I'm always a mess so this would help so much.

Internal OTG - up to 32gb memory extension - crazy idea??

Hi, I`m just wondering if it is possible to make kind of internal bypass on internal connector and make full time OTG directly connected to some little usb sdcard reader inside device (should be connected directly w/o original USB male and female connector due size reduction). In sd reader could be up to 32gb micro sd card. (or someone tryed 64gb yet?)
From software side every time it should looks like OTG and sdcard is connected.
Just wondering if it is possible to power up properly and connect with PC or another OTG after this messing up with hw
Thank you in advance for your opinion
EDIT: spare internal dock cable is not so expensive so everyone may give a try.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dock-Conn...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20c68df444
I'm also very interested in this idea.
Have you search for ang other DIY projects?
Maybe you post this question in Galaxy Tab 10.1 forums?

Here i am!
It's not possible. For 3 reason:
1) there is no place physically inside device. Not even 1mm!!
2) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the connection to PC
3) you can't have at the same time the OTG feature and the charge from AC adapter
In this picture you can see a modification that i have made in my tab:

I have moved the dock connector. This it was possible because i have removed the battery. (in car the li-ion battery expolde!!")
Bye!
I found these two interesting ideas:

Maybe it is possible somehow to solder this adapter to 30 pin?

You can charge and use OTG at same time with this accessory:

Has anybody found a *tiny* USB-C OTG adapter?

With my Note 4, I could keep a tiny OTG adapter (pictured in the link below) in my wallet to give access to USB devices...
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB19g5f...TG-Adapter-Converter-into-Flash-Drive-For.jpg
I can't seem to find a similar device for use with the Note 8.
Has anybody found anything like this?
Cheers,
Steve.
Perhaps not as tiny but the Note 8 comes with an OTG adapter used for transferring data from an older phone to a new one.

Yeah, I know - I was really wondering why there aren't any OTG adapters in the nano flat style. That's what I'm really after.
THIS is the smallest I've seen.
Well, there is another but the listing just seems a little dodgy - Clicky
I bought a usb 2.0 to C OTG adapter which did not work at all, and a 3.1 A to C which does so that may need to be a consideration beyond just the physical size.

I would have gone with the second one if the picture had actually been of a USB-C interface, rather than Micro USB.
If it can't fit in my wallet, then attaching it to my key-ring (with minimal size/bulk) is a reasonable alternative.
I keep both of these in my wallet. Type C to micro USB and a micro USB OTG adaptor.
Got them from Gearbest and/or Banggood.

It's nice to know that works - I ordered exactly the same from Gearbest a week ago.
