For the N6? Manual Camera! Lovin this app! It's still a work in progress, but it is a very cool app.
Manual Camera

I switched from Manual camera to Camera FV-5, which also uses the new APIs (so it can output DNG). It is a lot more polished and stable than Manual Camera.

Manual camera capture in 4:3 and you cant change quality and HDR seems very broken or non functional.
Very slow shutter rate, aosp and google camera is so much faster, Manual Camara not worth it at all.

It seems you have missed the idea of the app. It's called MANUAL CAMERA!
You don't change "quality" settings. You don't have HDR mode. Those are AUTOMATIC modes. This is a MANUAL application that allows you to adjust MANUAL settings like ISO, Shutter Speed, Over/Under exposure, white balance, etc. If you want all the "programmed" or "automatic" settings that come in the camera app, then use the camera app!
And if your shutter rate is slow, it's because you have a SLOW SHUTTER SPEED selected!!!!
Complaining about an app that is doing what it's supposed to do, is epitome if stupidity!
ARGH!!!!!!!

The app works perfectly fine on my Nexus 6 and I really like the manual options. Too bad it's not possible to edit the raw images on the phone yet.
And the low fps isn't a problem on a phone for me because the auto focus isn't that fast anyway.
A timer for timelapse photos could be a nice feature.

Google kinda dropped the ball on it. Hopefully it will be functionality added in at some point.

core issues with N6 video before slo-mo can happen

My sense is there are some very serious issue preventing slo-mo. That is, slo-mo you want to share because it would be close to garbage as it stands.
I shoot video frequently and was very unhappy when I got my N6.
- signal to noise (S/N) is not good on this device at this stage of the game. It simply is noisy, and it is correctable in software. Until then, slo-mo will be very nasty if anyone is brave enough to try to encode it.
- exposure compensation in video mode is poor - if you shoot a video of a person sitting in front of a blank wall (or a sky) and slowly pan up and down - you can see the exposure compensation "clicking" in stairstep manner as the device adjusts to brightness changes. It needs to be silky smooth or video looks like crap. It can be corrected in software.
- you can workaround the exposure issue by using a third party app which locks exposure compensation - but shooting video with locked exposure compensation is not a good solution.
my opinions.

@warriorpluto I couldn't agree more...I was hoping that there be at least a working port of maybe lenovo, sense 6 camera,z2 or z3 camera...maybe when more devices get lollipop well be able to enjoy the nexus camera...but I suppose for now the google camera shall do for now lol smh

Z camera is good enough. The only one u can take picture wit no lag. But no HDR .

Manual Camera just came out a few weeks ago, but it's by far been the best for me (a camera junkie).
It's best used if you're used to the settings on a DSLR, but has an awesome auto setting and the fastest auto-focus i've seen yet on the N6.

So is the best camera app "Camera FV-5" with Cinema FV-5?

Just cleaned up in here. You guys can take the political debate to a different forum, please. I have absolutely no idea why this subject got brought up in camera thread (actually I do, but I'll deal with the certain member(s))......on a development site.
No need to discuss what I just cleaned in here. Please keep it on topic.

Lg Camera App - Finally im not embarrased of my photos.

Hey all
I have been so frustrated with the camera on this phone as it takes barely passable photos in daylight but low light its almost impossible to take photos that are focusd and aren't full of noise. The HDR shot is quite good but nothing special.
Also the photos are a little zoomed in and squashed down if compared against objects you've take the pic of.
So i searched around and came across Lg camera in the market.
It has a free version which seems fully featured which bugs you for purchasing it every now and again. The aspect ratio of the pics is correct and tt takes excellent low light shots especially with flash on and has less noise and focuses perfectly.
Just thought I'd share it see what people thought.
Cheers.
Tried it. Didn't notice a difference. Tried camera zoom fx and all three took the same photo. The autofocus algorithms on this phone are horrible.

Sorry to say but its totally different pics on mine to stock camera. If you cant see the difference then maybe there's a fault on your phones because lg camera is perfect for me in low light and has no focusing issues at all even in a pitch black room with flash on.
You can also set infinity focus which eliminates all need to focus at all so for me lg camera fixes the problem
Also the aspect ratios in the photos on stock camera are totally different when compared to lg camera so maybe you need to compare the pictures side by side. Lg camera is true to the scene, Google camera squashes everything down. Also the Google camera is zoomed in further than lg camera.
My phone has no focusing issues with this app now.
Camera zoom fx isn't really a camera app more of a toy but anyway hope it helps someone as its sorted the camera form me and I'm very picky.
Ill update the thread with comparisons over the weekend to highlight the difference between the two cameras

Please do!
I tried lgCamera as well as other camera apps and saw no significant difference.
There are several aspects to the bad pictures problem.
- One is the limitations of the camera module which no app can fix.
- Then there's camera calibration. The LG Optimus 4X HD has the same camera module
but produces photos with less noise. There's room for improvement here but it is most
likely going to happen with a firmware update.
- Proper metering and scene evaluation will no doubt increase the picture quality.
Manual control is one avenue to peruse this but I haven't come across and app that
gives exclusive control over ISO and shutter speed. Some apps let you select one and
then automatically adjust the other.
Check out Camera FV-5.

The camera app itself doesn't really matter.
All the actual focusing/picture taking/etc is done by the kernel module. There is a userspace driver which translate commands from the camera API (its just ends up being a string that defines parameters in plan text) and based off of that it tells the kernel module to make those changes/perform those actions. It even defines the jpg compression quality and whatnot, so there isnt much the actual app itself does.

The camera app *suggests* the compression it would like, it doesn't do the compression itself. The userspace module instructs the camera kernel module to do the compression, and the build in DSP in the Qualcomm chip does the actual compression.

Camera zoom fx/third party camera apps

I've read some really good reviews for the camera zoom fx app, has anyone used this on their Z1 or similar camera apps from the play store.
The stock app is so hit and miss and although it can produce some great quality pictures, sometimes having to fiddle around with manual settings etc. can prevent capturing precious moments.

I have tried all (decent) camera apps out there, camera fx, camera pro, fv5, motorola camera, kitkat camera and so on... all of them are worse than stock, I mean you can tweak some settings exposure stuff like that (on some of them) but the stock camera in high lights captures the best shots of all camera apps (and 95% better than manual too), when it's cloudy or lights aren't high switch to manual, no setting, no scene, no hdr, no steady shot, nothing. If the picture is too exposed I suggest to use the native resolution 20mp 4:3 which result in a bit darker photo. In low lights, or night ... ATM forget about that I'm unable (unless maybe you have patience and a tripod) to capture nice shots.
When you use the stock camera in auto please keep an eye on bottom right and before each shot check if it detects the correct scene, if not change angle if you don't want then switch to manual (with settings said before). Remember that we don't have OIS (optical image stabilizer) but a software one, which IMHO currently is a lie, so keep your hands steady as a brick.
Probably wait and see what the 4.3 update will bring to the camera before even spending money on buying anything.

I found the LG camera app to be excellent. It's taking some great shots on my Z1. Mind you, I'm no photo expert so I could be wrong but I just did a compare with some 20mp shots on the manual mode with stock cam and the 20mp shots with the LG app. Found the LG app much better as I can't be bothered with tweaking settings. Most shots I take need to be completed within 2-3 secs. I also tried FXcameraZoom and wasn't too happy with it.

Tried that one too, I didn't see any substantial difference
after several tests Pro Capture is my favourite camera app
faster, more precise and better focus than stock
special support for Xperia Z1 (optimized algorithm and 16/9 wide 20MPX)
better auto mode performance than stock superior auto
macro have more sharp details
sometimes I use stock camera because it can handle ISO level and if I have a lot of light I can set ISO 50 and reduce the exposure to obtein perfect panorama images

Could someone post the camera apk from KitKat?

I'm very disappointed with the resolution of the default camera. The images are not sharp, and absolutely terrible in low light. I'm surprised Samsung is getting away with this.

Highest quality, image stabilization on, auto mode. Just play with it, it has iso and exposure settings too. I have taken some really sweet long exposure shots with it propped up on a rock that look like they've been taken with slow exposure film.

Mine goes to 12.8MP (4128x3096). I did notice it didn't do 4k video recording, but I can't find any third-party apps that do that. Does it maybe vary device to device? Might be worth trying out... I know the max MP stated for the Note 3 is 13 but for all I know that's an averages thing. I don't mind losing 0.2MP, since for all I know the full 13 is like I said just raising up.

what camera app do you use?

Hi everyone,
It's one week I own the z3c and I was asking to myself what camera app would better performs with the 20,7mpx sensor.
I quite like the default one but I also like to have the full controll of the settings like when I'm using my dslr.
I know tha the manual mode is pretty cool but I'm sure as well that outiside there in the google play store there is a good app wich perform better
Any of you tried these apps?
PS: sorry for mistakes, I'm still learnig english.
I am also looking for a similar app, with at-least white-balance and exposure settings. Please let me know if anyone found a better application
I like the idea of being able to adjust the white balance and exposure by sliding your finger up and down or sideways on the screen without having to go into the menu. If there's a camera app that does that, I'd be very interested.
I am getting great results frm Camera JB+. It takes the interface to a simplified AOSP-vanilla look. No more overcomplicated interface. Quality-wise I get overall better performing pictures as the manual mode in 20MP. Also there is support for 20MP HDR, even with flash.
I'm very well suprised by this simple app. Another plus, is that it will come with a AOSP-gallery, wich I do very much prefer to the stock gallery.
If you deactivate the stock camera, this app will pop-up when you press the dedicated camera-button.
Only downside I have experienced, is no 4K video (but who actually needs this) and lacking a resolution option 16:9 15MP.

Interestint topic.
I bought Camera ZOOM some time ago, though not used it still on the Z3C. The default app certainly lacks manual setting sof exposer/time. Also, where is the ISO setting?? Am I stupid or why can I not seem to find it?? HDR options are also not easily accesible, nor is white balance. So interesting to hear what people use sucessfully, trying the ones mentioned so far now.
I've got some impressive results with Pro Capture and Pro HDR apps. Both are paid, I got them in a discount or so, some time ago.
Especially the Pro Capture has some fine tweaks, that increase the usability overall. There is a demo(free) version AFAIK for anyone who wants to try it.
Bought ProHDR because I loved it on iPhone.
I find the google camera app really good, you can select 15mp, 20mp and also provides manual exposure control on the screen. The panorama and photosphere are great.
On my HTC one X i used Camera FV-5. Tbh, it was in my experience the best camera app around, though their maybe others too. It doesn't do none of the filtering rubbish, but purely easy to access manual controls. You can even save as lossless png's and then do your own processing in your chosen software.
Bracketed frames, HDR/timelapse, long exposure and lots more.
Due to some other technical reasons, I haven't tried it on my z3c, but I suggest you really look into it. Unfortunately they don't do a demo.
I'm a wedding photographer so this was ideal for me. I may investigate for something better (if there is), but I know I will be using this again, soon.

I tried FV-5 and Pro Capture on my Nexus 4 but they were kinda glitchy. Might try them again on the Z3c. At the moment I'm using Open Camera.
I hope Sony offers RAW file support with the Lollipop update, which would make everything awesome and let us escape the mushy Sony jpeg processing, but I'm not holding my breath.

Well all parameters are based on each hardwares capability and drivers. The max I believe is ISO 3200, though my htc one x does not support that, but does go to extended ISO 50. Though, I was told custom roms (like on my htc) can restrict or help features too.
Speaking from using pro DSLR's, I would expect 3200 or more from a camera phones sensor to be very noisy. Obviously the Z3 series does go as high as 12,800, and uses their drm protected algorithms to handle the noise.
You could ask the developers, who are quite good, and see what MAX parameters the app supports for z3c. Tbh, I'd like to know that too.
FV-5 would automatically increase ISO value when the light is insufficient, and produce a lot noise in pictures.
The default Sony Camera would extend exposure time in such environment, according to the result of metering.
I did not find an app, outside the stock, with iso setting. I'm on stock kitkat. Had Sony blocked this setting for 3rd party apps or devs must use different api?
In my old Xiaomi all worked like a charm FV5, capture Pro and ABetter camera.

Possible to get rid of the ungodly shutter delay in the camera?

I turned off auto HDR, and I still have to hold the camera steady for like a second after capturing a shot or else it will be blurry. Is there any way to enable a faster shutter speed?

HDR by definition is taking at least 3 individual photos to capture and combine. This is the delay you are experiencing. IMHO it should only be used for static images. Anything with movement is not a good application for HDR. source, I'm a photographer.
In terms of manual controls, I've not found any for the turbo cam app. Boo.

Really hoping this gets fixed soon as well. The camera is pretty much worthless as is because of the shutter lag. I tried other camera apps from the market as well and the issue persists.
In fairness I think the N5 camera was worse at release... Source: Someone that knows next to nothing about photography and has low needs and expectations but isn't satisfied with the offering here.
Have you tried using the Google camera app, from the Play Store? I've heard that it has more features and performs better than Moto's camera app.
The camera has the ability to take photos without the shutter delay. This is noticeable when you click and hold to take multi photos. Only the first image has a delay and the rest are pretty fast. Hopefully, a software update will solve the single/first photo issue.

I tried the google camera app from the play store and the problem persists. Also tried every setting in the app on/off. How does a phone of this caliber have shutter lag?

If you're trying all the settings, try the advanced settings on the moto camera too and report back.

Not seeing anything that helps shutter speed. Tried a few settings and searched the thread but no improvements to shutter speed/lag anywhere to be found. Hopefully a Lollipop update will "fix."
Right there with you. Its so much worse than my old GS3. My number one complaint with an otherwise fantastic phone.

Don't do ART. That has nothing to do with anything here.

Last year's X and Droids had similar issues, from slowness to colors. They were fixed in future updates.
I'm not seeing this problem. Very responsive for me.
I did take the OTA today though.. I didn't see a changelog, but figured it was just for Advanced LTE Calling..
