[ROM] [Project ] Pure AOSP 5.0.2_plus Google Updates (2/1/2015) Mako Beta - Nexus 4 Android Development

The idea behind this project is to compile a Pure AOSP ROM. The difference is I have been little by little including and testing new commits added to the for the most part unstable staging master branch code from Google AOSP that has not yet been tagged for a future Lollipop update., hence the reason for 5.0.2_Plus name. The only change added to the code that was not committed first by Google is that the ZIP can be flashed in TWRP without replacing TWRP with the Stock Recovery and that is it. At the moment because of limited testing as I do not own a Nexus 4 and all changes have been tested on the Nexus 5 felt untill a few return performance reports best to call this a beta version. With that said the same changes have made some improvments and fixed a few issues experienced by Nexus 5 users using the oficial 5.0.1 update or compiled from the AOSP android-5.0.2_r1 branch. So if start receiving comments that all has been well on the Mako build or see say 100 download without a complaint reported will remove the beta tag. I suspect this will be the case as the commits are not device related.
I honestly started the project for the Nexus 5 with the idea that maybe as a community a few developers could help work on the project so everyone had an updated version of the latest release version that included the latest fixes and had not intended on compiling for the Nexus 4. After my second release another XDA member had asked if it would be possible to make a Nexus 4 port for a friend. At that point as there had been little interest in the project by other Nexus 5 Developers I would post the Mako ota package I compiled for the user who had asked for one. I also have my own Starship Rom and am part of a new developer team so again was meant as a community project and not intended to be released as my Rom or really even released at all with the intention of being a resource for other developers to either use as the base of whatever new AOSP Rom they may intend on developing or selectively picking pieces or fixes. So going with the same idea after compiling the asked for Mako version thought why just limit the idea to just the Nexus 5 as all Nexus devices share the same code from AOSP with exception of needing to add a different set of propriety vendor blobs and choosing a different lunch command for building. So the same goes as intended for the Nexus 5. If any Nexus 4 developers would be interested in joining in on the project Just let me know and I will grant full access to the Github account and create a new branch so we can test and insure the master branch is always %100 stable if it is going to be used by other Nexus developers..
A few examples of the commits that have been added.

Have had version 2.37 in storage and had been using without issue but updated to 2,40 with last test without any issues. What can I say Im lazy that way so unless having an issue just used what works but figured most would grab the latest so thought it best to give it a test before posting.
Kernel is %100 Stock but going with past experience if mrg666 has a Kernel availible for your device it should be the Kernel you are using.

Change Log 5.0.2_plus_r2
Removed the below commit "Add ip6-localhost to /system/etc/hosts."
https://github.com/android/platform_system_core/commit/25147416bb105914c3cdf8fd65ca7cc20dae0f3e
Looks like a few apps are not fans of having an ip6 entry for localhost. Transparent Weather Widget for example can not find the device location with the enty included.
In looking for the cause of the above issue also reverted.
https://github.com/android/platform_frameworks_base/commit/e4ec09da0b4a31e23f1a19bdd1ea99e0f87cadac
Honestly reverted looking for the cause and did not remember to restore once identifying the cause. Overall is an old commit and dont think will make any difference whatsoever or would have been tagged for use in a past release so not going to bother.
As usual I am not responsible for your device and you are using anything posted in this thread at your own Risk.
This is %100 AOSP with no extra theming at all including bootanimation so no screen shots, as a Nexus User are probably aware what AOSP looks like at this point.

Don't mean to be rude, but you're still living in 2014, apparently. LOL . Classic mistake, I guess. Check the title dude.

Its cool, such a classic XDA first comment though. Could discover the holy grail and receive 15 comments about a spelling error. Adding I guess makes it that much better. Going to leave it in and see how many times your comment is over looked by someone so proud to have noticed it first, lol.

This is exactly what i have been looking for, we need more Roms like this. Thanks OP downloading now:good:

I hope you don't think it was something personal, man. Your title made my day. With all these exams, I've been all stressed out, and your title made reminded me of the time when I was sitting in bed with the laptop in front of me, thinking it's a long time till the exam session. LOL

Good rom so far, only thing was that data roaming was enabled by default.

I was just joking but still think it will be amusing to see how many skip past your post to point out the same. I actually test software for a living after it has been installed on an energy management diagnostic system both for new version testing and quality control before shipping and need to sign off that each system was checked out including the date. Had just recently worked on my birthday and was a highly unusually busy day but ended up signing off the date as 1976 (my birth year) on about forty systems. What is even more humorous is the amount of complaints from technicians who thought they received a system using a Nexus 7, now 9 for use as a portable User interface believed they had received software that had not been checked out since 1976. With that said most installers come from an HVAC technical school background and still use AOL as their contact email address. Lol!

Will look into that I'm happy to know it is working out. I basically just took my N5 source added the Mako vendor blobs and compiled using a different lunch command. Will go back and see if data roaming being enabled by default is a result of my updates or is set in general aosp 5.0.2 after work. Even though intention is keeping as pure as can be should still be looked at.
Think it would be nice if we could get a few devs together from across the current Nexus devices lineup and do our best to keep an aosp Rom available adding in the latest updates and bug fixes into the most current release for all Nexus devices. Not just for users but for other devs to use in their own aosp based work. Beleive if we could get something like that going would be pretty sweet and not all that time consuming. Still lots of updates added by Google devs every day. Some a bit more complicated then what I have done that a small group could easily bang out and test. Everything comes from the Master aosp branch that can get messy with constant new commits around the clock but think if selective in adding into latest release could be a beneficial project. So using my phrase of the week with that said I am going to build and post a version for all the Nexus devices in an attempt at gaining interest in the project. Again with that said I am torn for tonight as can try producing thr first N5 version that is sprint compatible or build for my Nexus 9. I am very much looking forwored to trying it out with jusst Simple ol aosp but at the same time feal bad for the Nexus 5 Sprint users who are all stuck on stock because other Roms are missing the aditional files added in for the radio to work. Decitions, decitions, decitions.

LMAO. That was funny

flashed yesterday with nothing to complain until now
thanks for this build
edit: found first bug (maybe)
whle setting Chronus Weather and also Transparent Clock Widget
the phone couldn't find it's location.
Pop up on the screen stated....
"Cannot retrieve location!"
Network geolocation is disabled
Set a custom location or enable location
already try High Accuracy, Battery saving and Device only but it never show my location
the widget always appear with "Loading weather data"
If i choose Battery saving then Google Location Reporting will turn grey and not clickable, other two option made it clickable again but still my location show "Loading weather data"
maybe someone are having this too?
how to fix it please?
thank you very much

Think I got the fix and am compiling now. Hopfully have up by tonight if not morning. I am on the N5 though and have no issue with beatifull widgets finding my location or maps with navigation working which is my goto test apps along with GPS test. After reading your post tried Transparent Clock Widget and the app was not able to find my location. I did manage to fix this on my N5 so am rebuilding for Mako using the same source. Now have all the Mako Vendor proprietary blobs set up in vendor so can build either Hammerhead or Mako depending on lunch command. Still though will need testing on N4 as I am on the N5.

Know prob but had been unsuspectingly busy but compiling the what believe will fix the issue for the N4 and it comes down to the smallest commit.

Updated [Dev][App] NoLitez 1.0.28 Dec 17 2008

UPDATE: Dec 17, 2008
older versions are no longer available here, the latest version is in the market under the developer name "snctln"
let me know if you have any problems with it

so I decided not to abandon development, competition is a good thing, right? and I am going to update the first post with a new build... in this new build there are a lot of improvements
- all 50 levels from the classic lights out, before it only had the first 5
- after level 50 new levels are randomly generated... I believe there are more than 8000 solvable
- added a hint engine... press the menu key and select the "Show Hints" and you will see a small red dot on the keys that you need to press in order to complete the puzzle, updates in real time, you can turn off this feature if you want by going back to the menu and selecting "Hide Hints"
- the state of the application is saved across instances... this way you can continue a game even if you restart your phone
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
My main question is this: Does this app feel the like it is the sae quality as other apps on the Market? Or does it seem cheap and too simple?

(mods: if this is not the correct forum to post development of an android app please feel free to move the post or tell me where to move it to)
So I put up a thread a week or 2 ago requesting android app ideas and at first it seemed that games were in demand, so I started working on a simple game...
NoLitez is a simple game that take inspiration from the old simple handheld video game "Lights Out", (wikipedia link)
basically the idea of the game is that all spaces in the gird can either be turned on or off... the goal is to get all of the lights off. When you touch a light, you toggle the state of that light and the 4 lights immediately north, south, east and west of the light
I ran the apk using the latest android for titan build and it worked as I would expect.
So now I am curious if any G1 owners want to be a beta tester for me and tell me if this apk even works for them, and if so what they think of the game.
I only have very basic features implemented, and only the first 5 levels...
This would count as my first android application so please go easy on the criticism, but I am open to hearing all things good and bad
thanks for any feedback
i tried it out, good game. No crashes or hangs, works as described

Nice. Clean interface and classic gameplay. I remember when they advertised these things on television in the '90s.
On a side note, how's Android running on TyTN? There's not a week goes by that there isn't a new device Android is running on, but it seems that most of the devices still need some spit polish.

well I have a Titan rather than a TyTN (PPC6800, CDMA device, aka Sprint Mogul vs P4500 GSM aka AT&T 8525 here in the states) [but they do seem to be named the same]... and I have to say that android doesn't run too well on it, I have been able to get android up and running on it since July thanks to dzo's vogue releases but even with the latest editions the touchscreen doesn't work quite right and the button mappings aren't very intuitive to me... maybe I just need to give it more than 5 minutes, but my plan is to buy a Android Dev 1 or some unannounced 2009 android phone so I shouldn't have to rely on testing on an unsupported QVGA device... but I just got laid off last Friday, so it could be a while until I have a proper android device to develop with
Works like a charm, no bugs at all and a pretty fun game! Do you mind if i throw it in my g1 files in my sig?

I am glad that you are enjoying it, it is not a problem to put the apk up in your directory, I have a few more things that I want to do before I make a proper release in the android market, but I have a few questions and I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask them
1.) Does this application behave as you would expect it to as far as saving and restoring its state? Like if you get a phone call or have to leave the app for some reason when you restore the app does it save the lights on/lights off state? Does it at least behave as you would expect it to when compared to other G1 apps?
2.) I am not fully sure if this application would be allowed in the market because Tiger electronics has the "Lights Out" game patented... does anyone know if any other game "clones" exist on the market like say a tetris clone?
thanks again for the feedback
There's an app on the Market called 'Lights Out" already...? Seems to be the same game? Not sure who developed it though.

wow... you are correct, this exact same game already exists for android and I had no idea. Looks like I am going to abandon development unless someone thinks it is good to have diversity in the market, since I don't have a G1 there really is no way for me to test to see the differences that may exist...
I enjoyed putting this together, but I wish there was some way to browse the titles available on the market other than directly from a G1, that way I would have known to work on something different. (and after a quick search my second game that I was planning on making "4NARow" (a connect 4 clone) is already on the market too...
maybe if I pay the $25 and register as an android developer I can see the different apps available in the market?

As of right now I have no way of testing NFC or IR Blaster, so I do not know if they are working on this build or not. Also on this build there is the infamous red box that appears when moving from screen to screen or app. I am going to fix that either today or tomorrow and then post the new build. The reason there is no data or cell reception is due to the APN list which will also be fixed in the next build.
I tested this on my T-Mobile G900T, so if others can please report back on their experience with this ROM on other devices that would be greatly appreciated and I will get those issues resolved as soon as possible. Thank you.

Slim minimal gapps.
1st edit: It's booting.
2nd edit: back key, home button and recent/menu key not working? Get NavBar. I like this!
3rd edit: Setting slow to response
4th edit: Stock camera has stopped. Google camera work but need to insert USB storage.
5th edit: Stock Music player not playing
6th edit: USB storage not mounted so can't test out audio/video but ringtone ringing at audio setting.
That's the issues at the moment besides of known issues. I guess i've to restore my backup now. Waiting for your new build thank you.
Ok. Thank you. I will get all of the issues fixed asap.
I'll try it tomorrow but I am also using a sm-g900t so I won't shed much light on the issues/bugs list cause its most likely to be the same as @lunerceli. Still going to flash thou, lol
Thanks for sharing your build with us.
Sent from my SM-G900T
I read your other post in the SlimRoms thread and I'd like to help a bit if I could. I'm going to flash this in the next hour after backing up my memory cards and then I'll grab you some logcats of crashing apps to save you some looking. I know enough to help, but not enough to debug so you aim me at the logs that help you and I'll get you as much as I can.
I run a SM-G900T as well so we will have similar errors. Thank you for taking the time to do this, I really like all the slim roms.
Working: (Mini Gapps)
- Booted and completed setup (hung on "Welcome..." for a bit, it got through)
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth/Stereo Bluetooth
- GPS (Took a minute, but did lock with "Device Only" setting chosen)
- Customization Options working (battery color, statusbar transparency, quick tile settings)
- Statusbar brightness slider
- Volume and power buttons
- Real Dark Slim (hangs for a few seconds, but it succeeds)
- Camera works with third party app (Camera ZoomFX) but crashes when taking photo since it can't save to storage (16MP!)
- Headphones (Music stops when unplugged; nice!)
- Music
- Keyboard
- Navigation Bar/Pie Controls
- Dialer
- Root Permissions (had to enable prompt in settings, but it works)
- Secure Lockscreen (Pin Number)
- Normal Apps (Browser, Calc, clock, Dialer, Hangouts, etc.)
Not Working:
- Hardware buttons (Back, Home, Menu/Recents) Tried to run a logcat here, but Android doesn't even see these other than vibration
- No Signal
- Storage (Internal and external can't be accessed) Startup Media Scan Pastebin
- Auto-brightness (Cannot be enabled) Auto-Brightness Log Pastebin
- Occasional Red Rectangle
-NFC (This, once turned on, cannot be turned off and the logcat feedback is about NFC every 7-10 seconds) NFC Feedback Pastebin
Not going to lie, this isn't far from being not only usable, but a daily driver. I'm going to see if I can pull a log later on for Auto-brightness failing and also for startup and maybe see why storage isn't being recognized and mounted. The file system sees both storage cards, /storage/sdcard0 and sdcard1 are both in the root explorer of android tuner, I just get permission denied when I try to access them.
Edit: Ran fix permissions scripts to see if it would mount the memory for me, and it did not. Also, adjusted media scan to prompt and it still didn't find anything. I'm going to try to pastebin you a log for each of the above failing. Got to work on a school assignment first though
Thank you for your feed back bro. I was on 24 hour duty last night and just spent like an hour to bring everything up and build it. I am going to work on it Friday night when I get off of work and hopefully by the end of the weekend it will be daily driveable and I can move to the next project.

There is no rush, I just wanted to get you some feedback putting things through its paces. I still intend to get you those log files if you find them helpful.
Get some sleep, this project will being be there tomorrow and thanks for tackling this for everyone in the community.
Edit: I put the logs I could get from my device in the last post next to the items in the list. Some things I couldn't pull, but you may know how. Also, and as I mentioned in the post, watching the Logcat scroll every 7-10 seconds I see the NFC log I pasted for you there. Not sure what is causing it, but NFC is toggling itself on and off.
Like I said, no rush on this I just wanted you to have it when you got around to working on it. Now it's my turn to get some sleep and if you need me to pull a log under a certain condition just quote me here and I'll get whatever you need. I'm looking forward to the next test build
Thank you for all of the info bro. I should have the next build up some time Saturday afternoon and almost everything should be fixed. Its been a while since I have done this so I am a little rusty. It is almost like riding a bike. Lol.
Build two is being compiled right now as we speak. I fixed a few things in the code so hopefully everything will work like it should. HAHAHAHA
Okay, so build two keeps stopping and ending in a segmentation fault for the framework.apk... I think I may have fixed it, but really don´t know .. LOL .. keeping the fingers crossed.

Awesome thanks for your work! I would gladly test it when it's finished. I came from the Skyrocket a week and a half ago so I am still getting used to the Galaxy S5, but I helped the OP there for SlimKat by testing and providing logs, so just let me know if there is anything I can help with.
Well, every time I get close to getting another build done something gets in the way. I lost my system and had to set it up again. Now whenever I sync the repo it keeps not finding some of the repo saying it can't connect. Lol

We appreciate that you keep on keeping on and that you keep us updated with this. Developing isn't easy, if it were we would all be making our own ROMs. Whenever you get this build out there will be testers around waiting to flash it to their devices. Me included
Sorry I haven´t posted anything in a couple of days, but I lost my system again and had to start from scratch. Some times I really have VM´s, but on my laptop I take everywhere It is too much of a pain in the ass to install Linux on the side or even straight up.
Just to update though, I am compiling the 2nd build right now and everything is going smoothly. I had to replace some of the Slim files with those from CM just to get past some build problems. I do believe that I have corrected most if not all of the not working. I am waiting for it to finish compiling and test it out before I release it to you guys. I will put up the download link regardless so that you fine ladies and gentlemen can test what and see what is going on in the development. The reason that I like to do this is so that the community can see active development and to compile the lists of what is and is not working with the ROM. I know it is a different approach to other developers, but this is just how I do it. Without you guys we as developers cannot do our jobs correctly and get a working daily driven ROM. Thank you for your support.
Mods please delete this thread. I am merging with another thread of the same topic. Thank you.
Will this rom work on G900FD as it has a qualcom chipset?

Here's a Pushbullet channel to alert whenever a new Nexus 5 factory image is posted

This is automated; it runs on my server. Doesn't rely on manual updates, so it should be pretty quick (the script checks every 10 minutes). Let me know if you have any issues with it.
Enjoy!
EDIT: I've expanded the script! It now checks EACH device individually; I've created channels for all devices. Links to the others are in my signature. Enjoy!
Hi, subscribed, will see how it works on next factory image release
I have two questions on you...
Is it possible to show also which version was released, e.g.:
N5 Image Released
A new factory image 5.1.0 (LMY47I) for the Nexus 5 has been released.

And, can you make also channel for Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi ("razor")?
Thanks
Cool, this is nice and handy to use. I got your 'False Alarm' message, which was a nice touch too. Sometimes code goes a bit nuts, and you replied to everyone immediately which was classy. Thanks for creating it!

Glad you like it! I am working on both of those features, actually. I wanted to get it up and running first so that the functionality is at least there, and now that it is I'll work on adding to it. A key component of the script is urlwatch, which unfortunately doesn't natively support multiple filters for the same URL (which is what caused the false alarm yesterday). I'm going to work on getting a channel for each of the devices that's still receiving updates from Google, it'll just take some time (and a test VM instead of the live server!) to figure out how to properly manipulate the server. I'll post in each relevant forum though when the channels are ready.
Getting the version information shouldn't be too difficult either, it's just something I'll have to work on. I'll keep you updated.

Definitely! I was initially going to write the script just for myself, but adding Pushbullet wasn't too much extra work so I figured I'd write something that others could use if they wanted to. I'm going to try to limit the channel(s) to ONLY send out the auto-updates, but if something goes wrong I'll manually send something out like the false alarm, if necessary.

I've now added both of these. The links to all of the device Pushbullet channels are in my signature, and you can see each for an example of the new text when a push is sent out. (The N5 channel doesn't have an updated push since it's already in use, so I didn't want to push another false alarm out, but the others do.)

Low RAM enabler mod

I've been keeping half an eye on the Oreo development, specifically Android Go as the number of old device I have is absurd.
This mod by @AdrianDC caught my attention - https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...mod-low-ram-property-patcher-android-t3737373
anyone tried it yet?
I'm going to have a go later on and see what happens..
**edit**
I'm currently on @AndDiSa's 7.x ASOP rom
@BobCat78 I am having a already a look at the low-ram configs. In the beginning I was also applying the 'low_ram' property (if you have a look at the system.prop it's still there, but commented out) but many people complained about missing features as the low_ram - flag turns off several screen effects and change some behaviour.
You can try to apply the patch from @AdrianDC but I would not expect much difference to the current behaviour.
Good to know.
thanks for getting involved in the discussion. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new changes are next month to your ROM
Truly wish someone would get Oreo with GO running for the N7 2012.
Still didn't find any tablet with this form factor and low price that's worth it.
Sadly I've yet to get into building ROMs ;(

[NST/G] R.I.P. WeatherACE for the Nook Simple Touch

Another one bites the dust.
It took awhile for Wunderground's API to actually die, but it finally did and I used my last data point yesterday. None of the other APIs in the app (OpenWeatherMap, Norwegian MET, Yahoo) have worked for awhile. I tried the obvious with OWM and N-MET, getting new API strings, decompiling the app, replacing the APIs and stitching it all back together. But no joy. The data structures in the new APIs are probably different and that's way beyond me. The jiggered app ran, but it was unable to gather data from anywhere (other than what my location is).
Too bad. Nothing left like it, AFAIK.
Yeah, I'm bummed. Weather Ace was one of the few apps that had nice widgets appropriate for the eInk screen.

I came across this: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.jsharkey.sky/
It works, which is rare for something so old, but the widgets are butt-ugly on the NST
Looks like I'll be researching changing colors, etc. So far it looks like the icons could be easily replaced, but the most offensive part is the widget background which is a 9-patch png (of course...).
The WeatherACE developer is a nice fellow but it would be ridiculous to contact him over this. So we move on.

Indeed. I spent some time yesterday exploring web-based widgets, thinking we could just point the browser at a URL, but most widgets use HTTPS and Javascript, neither of which are the strong suit of the NST, even with Opera Classic instead of the native browser.

Depends on what "this" is.
I eventually wrote my own weather widget app for the NST/G: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/themes-apps/app-nst-weather-widget-t3946270
This works.

Link said USA only . There is a weather app that can be used for Europe which uses yr.no site for data. It runs on my tablet and should work with Android 1.5+. Nothing special but good enough. Might require some customization to e-ink display though. That needs to be checked.

Didn't remember the US restriction, but all of the potential apps I looked at back then looked terrible on the NST or required network location. That is why (shameless promotion...) I eventually worked up my own Weather widget/app just for the NST. It lacks many bells and whistles but will work for any locale that OWM has stations. And, if I say so myself, looks pretty good on the NST.

The app is not dead.
I working on adding more weather sources. Atm, the app has 5 weather sources worked correctly - NOAA (USA only), OpenWeatherMap, Norwegian MET (yes, its back to work again, I switched WeatherACE to the their new API), Weatherbit.IO (new weather sources that added to WeatherACE in last build 1.12.30) and Forecast.IO (they are not provide new keys atm). Currently I working on 2 more weather source.
As for Wunderground, they were bought by IBM. The lowest price for weather data from IBM is around of $10000 per year, for a limited set of data. They also provide some weather API for people that provide them data from personal weather stations, but its just current and few days weather and no hourly data forecasts...
So, please check the app again.

No, it's not dead. In fact, I run it on most of my devices. I really appreciate the clean-looking widgets and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good weather app with widgets.
Sadly, in the context of this forum, it is "as good as" dead since the old version that would still run on Android 2.1 can't connect to any of the weather services any longer
I'm sorry if Google-bots picked up this posting and are making it seem like the app is non-functional. I've edited the post title so that maybe in the future that will be corrected.

Hmm... What version of WeatherACE you use on the old device? Its too bad that I didnt used VCS (version control system) in the time (like I do it now). But I still have backups of source code of some really old versions of the app. The oldest is 1.6.2, then 1.7.4, 1.80, etc.
Not sure if Google will allows me to make it (uploading to Google Play will not be possible for sure), but I could try at least. If everything depended on me, the application would continue to support android 2.1 (or 2.3 was in the very first version, I don't remember exactly). Unfortunately, Google constantly demands to gradually raise the minimum API, and with it, support for older devices decreases.

And I completely understand that. It's why I said in post #3 that it would be silly to contact you about this. I still remember how promptly and helpfully you responded to a question I had about more recent versions of the app I was running on my tablet. But restructuring an app that, in Android terms, is nearly an archaeological artifact, is not, I'm sure, a simple matter.
In any case, it looks like this version (1.4.4) is earlier than anything you may still have source code for.

Seems like the last version that support Android 2.1 and 2.2 is version 1.7.4 and I have sources for it. The changes log for 1.7.4 has mention about such fixes "Hotfixed crash on devices with android 2.1 - 2.3.X for weather alerts"." The version support WeatherACE API for external apps/widgets/early verions of tasker plugin, weather alerts and Forecast.IO source.
Luckily, there is a place where you can get almost any version of this app https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=511055&st=0 The last spoiler in the start post has links to my posts with most of the versions of WeatherACE. So, if you will have time, please try 1.7.4 from the post https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=511055&view=findpost&p=32402422
If 1.7.4 will work for you. I could try to build it from the sources I have. In case it will build correctly, it will not be so hard to update support for OpenWeatherMap and Norwegian MET.NO weather sources. Probably I also could add support for Weatherbit.IO.

Thanks so much. I tried this version on two NSTs, one with Network Location enabled and the other without. It works on both to the extent I can judge without any weather data being fetched. No sudden crashes or odd behavior. The map at the initial setup is blank, but that was the case in 1.4.4 (something to do with e-ink and the assumptions for default themes, I guess). Anyway, the map does not matter if you can type in your own geocoordinates which is what I did on the device without Network Location.
So this looks like a good candidate.

OK, thanks. In case you have DarkSky API key (the app know it as Forecase.IO, it was an old name of the DarkSky API) please use it with the version 1.7.4, the app version support the weather source. Once purchased by Apple, DarkSky (Forecast.IO) no longer give out free keys. But any old keys continue to work atm, as far as I know.
Building a new version with updated support for weather sources will take some time. As usual, most problems in the case are not related with app itself, but with other libraries. For example, a library that provided map does not support Android 2.1 anymore, so probably I will need to completely remove map from the app. Google libraries related with analytics and ads - also does not support old android versions anymore. I will work on it this weekend.

OK, seems like its done http://mycodefab.com/files/WeatherACEv1v7v4v2.apk Hope it will work, because I dont have Android 2.1 devices to test. In case of problems, I will try to find something.
The version support 2 weather sources - OWM (open weather map) and Norwegian MET.NO.
Limitations:
1. Removed weather map and adding locations via map. I cant find any android weather libraries that support Android 2.1 devices.
2. Removed ads for same reason.
3. Weather icons limited to the small set of icons inside the app + 1 custom icon set.
As for custom icon set, its mostly same as for latest versions of WeatherACE, just a bit different directory for images. Directory is "Android/data/mycodefab.aleph.weather/files/custom/icons/". It use same format as for the latest versions. So, for example, for "clear sky in day" condition it will use "d_100.png" file, "clear sky in night" will look for "n_100.png" file, "overcast" will use "d_104.png", etc.
In case the version of the appt will start, but not show the weather after weather info update, please get to Menu->Settings->Advanced->Weather Sources. Here you could see Active weather sources on the top. Tap on it. Uncheck OpenWeatherMap and Norwegian MET, tap OK. Enter Active weather sources again. Set check OpenWeatherMap and Norwegian MET, tap OK. It will recheck availability of sources for existing locations and will update the weather info.

I tried the app on both devices (with and without Network Location). Unfortunately it does not want to run
There is immediate funny business as the package shows in the file manager as a generic "package" icon rather than the app icon. Also, the package name (and generic package icon) are displayed in the launcher rather than the app icon and name.
I've attached a section of a logcat for trying to open the app. I don't know whether it has information that is helpful.
It may or may not have any bearing on what you have done, but as you're already going way beyond any expectations, I would suggest that leaving the app alone except for fixing the weather sources would be more than enough. I can understand your desire to have things "right". I have that same problem , and I do appreciate it, but maybe without so many changes there would be a better chance of the app still working, which is what it did even now, except for the access to weather sources. Of course, it's probably not that simple.
Thanks for your efforts.
