Any former LG G3 users here? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I`am considering buying the Nexus 6 64GB. I have the LG G3 32GB atm and i wonder if the switch is realy worth it in daily use and batterylife. If there are former G3 owners here please do share you`re thoughts.
Thanks in advance :good:

Former G3 owner here. The nexus is superior in many ways to the G3. No disappointment here. Bigger screen, no lag, faster updates, much more development.

I owned a G3. Love my Nexus in most ways. The G3 was only superior in two ways. 1) The camera in the G3 was better, if only slightly. 2)The native double tap to wake was a lot more consistent in the G3 than the patched in version on the N6. Other than that, I'm loving my N6.

I would never get any LG phones again, the Nexus is so much better.

Former G3 owner, happy with the G3, super happy with the N6

Thanks for your reply`s guys, but for now in guess i`ll stick with the G3 Held the N6 in my hand and i find it a bit to big for my taste.

I didn't feel the size from my G3 to my N6 was too big. Actually, it's amazing how fast people adapt to the larger size. I love my G3, like my N6. The G3 does have a better camera than the N6 IMO, but with the manual camera apk, it did enhance the N6 camera a little. The N6 still has some bugs on stock, but all stock lolli builds suffer right now. If you were thinking of switching to get a better stock device, meh, but having Nexus is something all together different in approach.

I thought that at first and still made the jump. The size difference has faded. The only down side was I can no longer stick my phone in one of the side pockets in my cargo pants. Though, once cased the G3 didn't fit either.
All in all, i am happy with the jump.

Seeing that it's difficult to get a N6 of the right size/color that I want, I'm deterred of not getting one anymore. I have an LG G3 rooted and with the latest build, 5.0.2. This rom is smooth as butter and can do everything the N6 can besides the size of the phone. Loving my LG and I'm holding off on getting the N6.

I didn't have a g3. I had a nexus 5. The nexus 5 was too big for me. Get, here o am

Love the g3 still in the household but I could not go back unless forced .

I came from a G3. N6 is hands down better. No lag either as someone else mentioned. The G3 was too laggy for me and would lock up a lot, not sure if it was a ROM issue, but I am enjoying the N6 much more. G3 did have a better camera, but the N6 camera is still great. I do sort of miss the buttons on the G3, I like that concept.

There was another OP on this so you could check here:

Love my N6 over the G3
Battery wise I'm charging as much as before, maybe a little less, the office has horrible signal for ALL carriers but the Nexus seems to get a signal and keep it better, I'll only give a top off charge towards the end of the day to be safe on the long commute home, car is a POS and the lighter does not work

As much as I liked my G3, I flat out love the Nexus 6. I had slightly better battery life with the G3, probably due to the smaller screen. After getting rid of the 5.0 enforced encryption on the Nexus 6, mine has absolutely no lag, which plagued the G3 even though it wasn't encrypted. The "out of the box standard" wireless charging works quite well on the Nexus 6, and I didn't have to buy a new rear cover like I did on the G3. My G3 ran quite hot when charging on my wireless charger, the Nexus 6 does not. The G3 processor also ran very hot (140-160 degrees Fahrenheit when it was working pretty hard), but my Nexus 6 runs about 50 degrees cooler as reported by the same software program on both phones. The Nexus 6 never feels hot in my hands. The Nexus 6 can also pull a signal and hold calls in areas the G3 would drop calls consistently, however the signal meter on the Nexus 6 exaggerates or is just plain overly optimistic - but who cares? It holds calls.much better than my G3.
Was it worth the switch from the G3? In my opinion yes.

As long as you're looking for opinions..

I'm on the fence. Like the bigger display screen on Nexus but I really liked the G3 tweek box and exposed framework. Did not have to keep trying new ROM's and stuff. The LG use of buttons and native tap to wake were exceptional and the Nexus fails horribly in that department by comparison. Battery life was more or less the same. Reception on radio was more or less the same as well. The balance of the phone was better on the G3. I'm hoping that the next update from google will add some of the missing functionality but from what I've been reading in the tech news, I don't think it will. No notification lights seems to be the way Android is heading for reasons I don't quite understand. I mean sure a deaf person may have trouble seeing a little notification light, but I think that should be a accessibility option and not a only one choice. A navigation bar that is not natively able to hide is another thing I think android wants to support. There is many more but like I said in the beginning, I'm on the fence, I want to like my Nexus I really do, but Android is making it very hard to do so. I don't know if other companies will be onboard with Lollipop and if they have developers who can work around some of these inconveniences. Let's hope that Microsoft backs Cynogen the right way and gives us some other options for OS's. If I had it to do all over again, I would wait for more phones to be released and weigh my options more carefully then. Peace.

I prefer the screen size of the N6 and to me the plain Android experience is also better, but I really miss the tap to wake and LED on the G3. It just seems crazy that this was left out as an option on the N6.
Both phones suffer from random shutdowns for me though, mostly after taking a photo when WiFi is not present.

Just got myself a nexus 6 and have to say that I was sad to see the g3 go. Absolutely loved the button placement and for factor. But, I can tell my n6 will be my favorite. Can't beat stock Android and the screen is amazing, not to mention the speakers. Battery is on par with the g3. I say pick one up if u can.

Give up g3 for n6?

I have a g3, currently. I've never had a nexus phone, although my son had a n7 a couple of years ago so I'm slightly familiar with nexus.
I've been dead set on getting n6 upon release, but as I get more used to the g3, I find things that'll be hard to live without.
Something I really like about the g3 is the ability to just start drawing on my screen and then share the screen shot. Its called quickmemo and it's attached to the nav ring, very easy to access. I'm wondering if nexus has a feature like this?
The other thing is the clip tray/board. Does nexus have an accessible clip board with multiple past "copies"?
Will I need to get third party replacements for these things? Is nexus still as bland as I remember that old 1st gen n7?
I don't care to run custom Roms but I'm sure I'll root and use some xposed mods. Os updates is the biggest factor in why I want a nexus.
The thing about the G3 is that it's a lag fest so for me personally it's a phone that turns me off.

Change your launcher to GNL. That might give you an idea of how the stock Android would be. Of course, a lot of the tweaks that the G3 has you may not see on the N6, but the N6 is still all about having the latest Android software. Not so sure about the G3. The AT&T G3 version has not recieved any updates, while there have been a few for the international G3 versions. At least with the N6, you would be getting update support for quite a while.
GNL still lags... or at least isn't as smooth as it is on the Nexus 5. I'm not sure if it's the stock ROM, or if this phone just isn't destined to be fast with this chipset. I do like some of the stock features of the LG ROM, but you can always find apps or other ROMs which build in similar functionality on a device like a Nexus. Just takes a little more work, but you can get things exactly how you like them.
I'm making the switch... The G3 is a nice phone, but does have a bit of lag. I thought it would be an upgrade from my N4. IMO the only improvement has been the screen. N6 will be even better!
XDA and the Nexus6 will blow the rest away!
I have the G2 and my friend has the G3. The thing I'll miss most is knock on/off, although N6 is supposed to have double tap or pick up to wake.
IMO G2/G3 have far less lag than Samsung phones and are a real design innovation with minimal bezels, huge battery life and a skin with useful features instead of gimmicks. I have no doubt Nexus 6 will be better though and plan on getting one.
N6 >>>
I'm enjoying this Nexus 5 other than the battery life. My Note 3 on AOSP was faster than it but this is smooth af and the N6 will be much more smooth
I'm going to be getting the N6 and selling my G3 (providing UK pricing isn't crazy).
Although the G3 is brilliant, and I don't have any of this so called 'Lag' I did originally want the N6, but needed a phone!

I'm going to use T-Mobile Jump to move from my G3 to the Nexus 6. LG isn't known for doing the best job when it comes to supporting their hardware after they have your money. Also, the nearly nonexistent development is a huge turn off for me. I'll miss some G3 features, but most can be emulated.

The dev isnt non existant, there are devs working on CM11 although with L and a new code base coming up, many devs for the G3 are waiting for L source to drop...the G3 with CM11 is alot more smooth than the stock rom, L will only improve it...the G3 is a good phone i've used it, isnt any worse than TW on a samsung device, but the the n6 will be the latest and greatest...is it worth the money to fork out for the n6 at 649 probably not for most ppl, now if you can sell you g3 for 350+ at 300 it mite be. That said as i've gotten every nexus device since the gnex as a result i'll be getting the n6

Like I said, the development is nearly nonexistent. Using Jump and paying monthly makes am expensive phone easy to bear so the price isn't an issue here.

As crazy as it sounds, when I ditch the G3 for a N6 the one thing that I'm probably going to miss the most is the back buttons on the G3. I've never realized just how convenient it is to have all of my buttons on the back of the phone essentially right where my fingers are typically resting. It seems like I'm in the minority of users who are actually going to miss the G3. I've never had any noticeable lag problems with mine and it's a very well built phone with some nice features. This will be my first Nexus phone purchase; it's just too nice for me to pass up right now.

I have similar feelings about my G2, you are not alone, lots of people love LG phones. I like them much better than Samsung's locked down, Knox ridden, TW infested phones, that's for sure.
Im keeping sometime my g3 waiting for a clean stock rom with all crap removed. I sacrified my n5 and sold it.

I would do the same if I were you too. I played with the G3 in a store and while I liked the overall phone (a bit thick for me and the screen wasn't as bright or vivid as I would've liked but the screen size-to-body ratio is fantastic) I would still hold onto it. I'm sure you can remove all the software and install vanilla Android L on the device.
'Sacrificing' the Nexus 5 for the G3 isn't such a big sacrifice you've now got a bigger screen in a similar sized device, bigger battery, better cameras & flash. The downside as noted is the OS but that can be removed.
In my opinion by the time the Nexus 7 (Nexus 6 replacement) phone arrives you will still be with your 'vanilla' G3 and be comfortable to upgrade then. No rush. Real world difference between a totally vanilla G3 and Nexus 6 would be negligible - I would go so far as to say that a vanilla G3 would match the Nexus 6 in everyday speed and probably have longer battery.
I have 2 G3's the Cat 6 (SD805) and regular SD801 model. Neither lag and I really love the G3 but I'm selling the SD805 model and getting a Nexus 6. I'm keeping my other G3 because it's a great phone. I just want a bigger vanilla android phone so the Nexus will be my daily driver while the G3 will take a backseat for now.

After using the g3 for some time, i installed lollipop on the n5, i loved the rom but the smaller screen felt like a toy for me, so i sold it to cut the price on the n6 and went back to g3.

Yeah same here. Love my G2 and there's a few things I'll miss (but hopefully can emulate somehow) like the clipboard, the ability to force hide the navbar per app and to rearrange the navbar (I like mine Recents, Home, Back) but I'll miss most double tap to wake. So can someone confirm the N6 will have double tap to wake? I know the N9 definitely has

Anyone coming from G3?

I am debating going for the nexus 6 or the G3. Normally I would be all over the nexus but with the recent unlocking of the ATT version of the G3 I a now torn. Has anyone left the G3 for the nexus, and can you tell me why you left? How did they each compare : screen, camera, quickness?
Probably a little premature with the question since the first people are just getting the Nexu 6 delivered today.

Just wanted to get it out there early. See if any one wanted to chime in on why they are leaving the G3 or had any info that would be helpful.
I have the G3 and can't decide what to do. This years round of phones was difficult.. they all had some kind of flaws. The only real flaw of my G3 is the lag. I have it pretty customized at this point and have gotten it to a very minimal amount. Standby time is awesome.. SOT sucks. I wish the screen temp wasn't quite so cold, and the over sharpening does get annoying to look at. Then again, knock code, IR blaster, removable battery and sd card, laser auto focus camera... ugh, such troubling first world problems.

I have both and in keeping both. I love my G3 and its fantastic camera. Both phones serve s different purpose for me but the G3 camera focuses faster than the Nexus r due to it's laser. I just got my Nexus so I can't fat to much else but I'll update you when I get more of a feel for it. It's a big phone but result manageable with my average sized hands. The screen isn't as bright as the G3 but it's easier to read on the sun for me. The Nexus also feels more solid to me and I love the size.

I think I am leaning toward the Nexus just based on specs alone. The 805 paired with 3gb and 420 gpu are good enough to last for a couple of years I think. Coupled with the updates and I hope it will be a solid device. Just want to make sure. $700 is a big chunk of change to drop n a device and not be satisfied.

I had the G3 Cat 6 (SD805 model) and the regular SD801 G3. I sold the cat 6 one and got the Nexus instead. I love both phones but each serves a different purpose for me the nexus will take some getting used to but I really enjoy it. I don't think I could choose just one right now but the Nexus is faster than my cat 6 G3 so it's worth it to me. It also makes my regular G3 look slow. I've had a G3 since launch back in May (3 models total) and I wouldn't sell my last one because I like it too much. The nexus is great its a solid phone with a nice screen and good battery and I will be using this as my DD for now. I can't wait to get TWRP and custom ROMs because that's why I have the Nexus. I'm probably rambling on but that's just because I'm excited about using my Nexus 6( I'm typing this on it)
ill be leaving my g3 in the dust come wednesday. the battery life sucks really bad with the snap 801. i cant even tell you my Sot because i had to charge my phone twice today.
Lately ive had issues with the g3 where ill double tap to wake and/ or press the unlock button and it wont respond.
I also told myself when i got my nexus 5 that i would never get another carrier branded phone.
Double two to wake doesnt work on my nexus 6 but it does work on my nexus 9. I miss tapping to wake but both phones are still great.

No please continue rambling.
I've grown to hate my g3. The battery seems good to me. The screen and camera r great but it just lags way too much, the screen always turns back on after using the button to lock it. I've also had problems with data where I have to turn it off and back on to get it to work at an acceptable speed. Now the other day I noticed it has the famous crack at the bottom mic.
Motorola nexus has always been my dream phone and while I will miss a few features of LG I actually like and the ir blaster which I use all the time, I won't look back. My last nexus I was very happy with for 2 years and I think this will be a great phone. Can't beat Motorola build quality.

I've sold My lg g3 for The Nexus 6 it will be my first Nexus device. I loved everything about the lg g3 I brought it day one and didnt have any problems with it. I've been waiting on Motorola to make a Nexus phone. I will miss knock code, the laster auto focus,ir blaster, the way they had the power buttons and volume buttons. Also for the sd card but I brought a WD wifi drive for that problem.
This benchmark is pretty good considering my phone was warm and charging when I tested it.
I'm coming from the G3. I like the 3 and think it's a great phone though. It has started to lag a little bit, but I'm running a lot of modules on it and those may be the cause.
The only real thing that I never liked about it was the colors. Both colors suck imo. The blue N6 sucks for the color too from what I've seen. So it's like an even trade.
The main reason I'm leaving it is because I'm on Jump and the N6 has a few features I want.
I'm also coming from the G3. I've had a great experience with the G3. I originally came from the G2 and the G3 was a great upgrade. I'm averaging about 5hrs SOT on the G3 and that's with constantly playing Clash of Clans. So I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'm running Darkwulfs Beta 2 BTW. It was an impulse buy while I was waiting for the Moto X and Nexus 6. But I have pre-ordered my N6 and can't wait to get it. Last year I was anticipating the N5 but jumped the gun impulsively on the G2. I did it again this year with the G3. Can't wait to have this behemoth any time this week. I just got my dad a Note 4 so I can't wait to compare the phones side by side along the G3.

I really want that because I hate the google camera. It won't install normally and there no root to yet so I can't move it manually to see of it will work.

Anyone with a n6 coming from g3?

I ordered a nexus 6, waiting on it to show up. Anyone come from an lg g3 already have an n6? Can you share some size impressions vs the g3? I'm worried its gonna be a bit too large, I do construction and don't want it to be a pain to use at work. Thanks
I have a G3 and played with a demo of the Nexus. I didn't think it was going to be to big a difference going between the 2. It was more noticeable than I was anticipating. I am still planning on making the change. Missing my N5 after getting the G3. Wanting to get back into a Nexus.
Just switched yesterday from the G3 to N6, I don't find the size difference too bad. The little bigger screen more than makes up for the slightly larger phone.
I had the G3 from release date up until the Z3 came out (which I returned after a few days). I picked up my G3 case this morning, and after a few days of using the Nexus 6 the G3 case feels small in my hands. The size of the Nexus 6 didn't take long to get used to at all, and I don't have any problem using it with one hand. The stereo speakers of the Nexus 6 are much nicer than the speakers on the G3 for video playback/music. The Nexus 6 also has a great looking screen, but so does the G3. I can't comment on battery life yet as I have been tweaking the phone daily and haven't really had a day I would characterize as "normal use". So far I will say that I don't miss my G3 at all.
EDIT: I realize you were just asking about size, but I thought I would toss some other info in in case any others had questions about G3 vs. Nexus 6.
Lol, try coming from the G1.

Also coming from the G3 since July. Pretty much same review you gave. I feel the build quality is much better on the N6 and it's much faster than the G3 I had. My G3 had touchscreen issues though. Lollipop is so smooth. I'm much happier with this phone. It's, size wise, definitely bigger. Without a case, it's as big as my G3 with a Ballistic tough jacket case. Feels great in hand though.

The Nexus 6 would be perfect if I could merge my G3's camera with it. I use my G3 for photos now and my Nexus for phone stuff.

Nexus 6 or LG G4?

Hi all. I'm trying to decide between these 2 phones. both are on sale at the moment and unlocked.
Do you regret getting the N6 because of it's size and camera? can you even fit it in your jean's pocket?
any suggestions feedback would be great. cheers

Don't regret the size at all. It fits in all the pockets I have including jeans. Mind that I'm not the slimmest person and don't use slim-fit jeans so it's entirely possible that it's not the same for you or others. The camera takes ok pictures in good light but it really has no say against the G4 - that camera is a beast and in some circumstances even better than the Galaxy S6 camera. If picture quality is very important for you then definitely go for the G4. In any other case take the N6.
I just got my N6 coming from a G2. I love the size and wouldn't want to give up that half inch comparing the two. I don't have any trouble fitting it in any of my jean pockets. I haven't used a camera a ton yet to comment on that, but to me that is less important.
If you like to root or run custom ROMs or ASOP then the N6 for sure. That's my favorite part about the nexus phones is the ability to run vanilla android and all the development support from xda. I don't like the software that phones come with from LG, Samsung, etc.
buy the G4 is you want the best camera...for everything else the Nexus owns.
Besides of that lg g4 has snapdragon 808 vs 805 in N6. 808 has 64 bit support that gives slightly more performance.

I had both (on T-Mobile) and I think the N6 performs as good if not better than the G4. Plus the G4 got SUPER hot under any kind of heavy usage, i.e. games, videos, etc. I missed my N6 so much I just nabbed one off eBay while on sale ...

I'd say go with the G4 if you want to use a phone just for using at a daily. It does get quite hot just doing basic tasks. The nexus 6 is a huge phone and the battery life sucks up faster too but the trade off is unlocked/rootable/custom roms. The speakers on the n6 is also crazy loud. I just purchased a Nexus 6 again after returning it before @499USD+taxes than got it for 299 out the door from ebay. For the average person a G4 would be a better phone but if you want to root and play with your phone get the N6 for $299 on ebay brand new.
Doesn't the G4 have an SD card slot and removable battery as well? I too pondered on both of the phones about 4 months ago and in the end I went with the N6. Why? I came from Samsung TW ROMs and was desperate to get back to some AOSP. That was my biggest factor, no more bloat and being locked down like an iPhone. The larger screen size is amazing and only took me a day or two to get used to it. Now I'm not sure I could go back to a smaller size.
I have both phones and the G4 is in its original box. The G4 has a much better camera and a bit better battery life. The Nexus 6 is better in every other way. They are both big phones so size is not a huge deal. If you need a great camera then stick with the G4 otherwise I prefer the Nexus 6.
Hi yudumcan,
When you buy a nexus, you simply buy the best android experience you can get in android ecosystem.
Wow great feedback. Thanks all. I'm in New Zealand and I just want to make sure it supports the LTE 4G band here. I'm trying to get hold of one to see how it feels in hand compare to G4.
This is going to be my first Android I've been on iOS for ever. iPhone6 being my latest device. So the first experience is quite important for me. As an ex Apple user I love instant firmware updates and always have a jailbroken phone. So is it easier to root Nexus 6 then G4? also Snapdragon 805 vs 808 any performance differences?
I'm not a heavy user. I have a point and shoot camera and an iPad Air 2. But I use my phone a lot especially, periscope twitter, internet. No gaming media consumption etc.
My other concern is is it likely the Nexus 6 will get next year's Android update or even if it doesn't can you still root it and run it custom?
thanks all...
EDIT: what about the battery life in Nexus 6? will it last me a day?

Still nexus 6?

Hello I'm after upgrading from my LG g2 and I was originally going for the 32gb moto x style for £350 but I can get a brand new 32gb Nexus 6 for £260, would you recommend the nexus 6 or should I spend the extra and go for the Moto x?
Thanks.
Also I always thought the nexus 6 was too big and completely dismissed it until I held one the other day and I loved it, I love amoled screens as well ?
I've had my N6 for the best part of a year now and I can't see myself changing it for quite a long time yet. Go for it.
Thanks mate ?
Coming from a G2 like you, and is a huge improvement! Only thing missing is qremote...
I also made the jump from my G2 to the Shamu earlier this week. I love it! It definitely has enough muscle to keep going for at least another 2-3 years, since it has a powerful SoC, and 3gb of RAM.
Also keep in mind that the Shamu will have significantly stronger developer support than the Moto X down the road.
Going from the G2 to the Shamu is actually a lot easier than I expected. I feared that it would feel too big and difficult to handle, but it's not bad at all. Even for me, since I don't have big hands.
The screen is beautiful, and the sound is awesome: clear and loud. Low light pictures are great, even compared to the G2.
On 6.0 with Doze it gets great standby battery life, and great battery life in general.
I say go for the Shamu!
I was never fan of big phones, but now I just love my N6. It feels so strange to hold my old N5 after this one..it is so tiny .

i love the remote... promise.. this is the feature that i loved with my g2"
Today, I think I talked somebody *OUT* of a blackberry priv by letting him try typing on my nexus 6. Its a night and day difference over typing on a 5" touchscreen. The size makes it actually *possible* to get by without a real keyboard.
Coming from an LG G4, to a Note 4 then an S6, now the Nexus 6, its far nicer than all of them, I always put off the N6 dues to its size, but after having a go on one, I was hooked. Always loved my old Nexus 5 and this Nexus 6 is simply fantastic.
