I know these are novice questions but please bear with me as I just want to understand the process.
I have the Z3C rooted on 5.77 with SuperSU, Xposed and various modules installed plus other ‘normal’ apps.
1. So if I do as in the OP I will have a ‘stock’ Z3C without the apps listed in the OP, meaning I have to install Xposed, modules and all my ‘normal’ apps afterwards? (don’t mind this, just want to be clear)
2. Is SuperSU ok?
3. Can I sync a backup from Sony Companion to get all my personal stuff back?
4. A.If I want to get one of the deleted apps back I just install it from e.g. GooglePlay? or
B. Using RootExplorer can I just delete the App's apk & odex files with same result as flashing?
5. Main reason for wanting to try/use this is I would like to use the Xperia™ Xposed module, so once above is completed I can d/l Xperia™ Xposed , activate it and I’m good to go?
Again, thanks for bearing with me and any advice appreciated.

I softbricked my D5833, what went wrong?
Requirements:
- Z3 Compact (any) or even Z3 (to be confirmed)
- Running rooted 23.0.1.A.5.77 firmware
- Recovery
- System partition mountable as r/w
Install:
1. Enter recovery and backup your current rom (good practice)
2. Download flashable zip
3. Enter recovery and flash it
4. Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache (and Data - optional)

Hi there. I had a well running rooted 23.0.1.A.5.77 firmware. After flashing the "[23.0.1.A.5.77] Debloated, Deodexed, Zipaligned, Rooted, Super User Mode" my phone wouldn't boot any more. It got stuck on the Sony logo.
I cant understand why. Is it because I have a D5833? Or might it be because after wiping the cache and the Dalvik cache I also ran "Prepare for flashing a new image" (I can't remember the exact phrase right now)
Please tell me what you think went wrong.

Never mind.

Thanks for this, @serajr. I just had a quick question regarding recovery. I have rooted my device with this guide (all steps completed); when I boot into TWRP and flash this .zip, how do I maintain the Dual Recovery installed in the root guide?
Apologies, I've found that recovery is still maintained on the device after using the .zip but NDRUtils is uninstalled which is easily downloadable again.

Thanks buddy!
Keep cool wiping everything AFTER flashing this thread zip file, it will just do changes into folders below:
/system/app (here including latest Superuser.apk)
/system/priv-app
/system/framework
Root binary (/system/xbin/su) and recovery files won't be touched!

Thanks for the prompt response! So, as far as I've understood, despite NDRUtils being uninstalled after flashing, recovery is still maintained and I just need to redownload NDRUtils if I need it via the Play Store.
I just had two quick follow up questions if you have the time to answer them?
1. If I want to go back to complete stock i.e. out-of-the-box functionality with all the bloat reinstalled, recovery deleted, etc., am I right in saying all I need to do is re-flash a stock firmware from this thread with Flashtool?
2. Can I delete your flashable .zip file and the SonyRICDefeat .zip file from /sdcard0 after flashing them in recovery?Hopefully these are simple questions. Thanks!

1. Yes, you are! By fully flashing ftf file you will be on raw stock fw again!!
2. Yep, you can delete both!

First time at debloating and deleted the apks at /system/etc/customization/applications/. before first uninstalling.
Could some kind soul post the list or instruct how i can work out the list from the zip? tried exploring the system.ext4 file but that didnt help as i thought it would.
Thanks for the debloat.

Serajr, can you release next version of your modification as a fully fledged ROM, please? It would be way easier to use.
I've just bought my Xperia and i'm a bit confused. With my old Samsung Galaxy everything was easy as a dream:
- flash popular ROM
- update it via OTA for years
With Xperia everything is much more complicated. (2 bootloaders, DRM keys, flash counters, etc.)
Sometimes I think that i'm too old for this but I can't imagine to use Android phone without root, xposed framework, firewall, navbar customization...
Regards.

Newb here, so I can't find my zip file when searching for zip with CWM. I did put it on SDcard and it's mounted, heck I put it in all kinds of folders for a look, but CWM is not recognizing it.
What is the system/method you guys have flashed this rom?
What have I missed? What have I not done? Is there another method?
Thanks.
Edit:
got it, thanks

I am hopefully not the only one with this problem on this deodexed rom but I have the problem to not be able to change the lockscreen wallpaper. It only shows the wallpaper of the homescreen at my lockscreen.
Is anyone else experiencing same issue or has a solution for me?
Maybe only a missing systemapp....

Kernel Problem
The debloated ROM works fine.
Problem: If I flash a Kernel (of course with unlocked Bootloader ) for instance AndroPlus or XZDR Kernel with your ROM - -> Bootloop.
With original/generic .77 firmware - -> no Bootloop
Do I make a mistake?

Dear @serajr
could you post a link to your last KK version? I'm waiting for LP xposed to be become stable, and until that I'll stay on KK
I'm on rooted stock (december KK), so I just flash this in recovery and it cleans all the sh*t from an existing ROM? I don't need to start over?

Go to original thread and take it under "KitKat version (23.0.1.A.5.77)"

Why deodex? Deodexing impairs performance and gains nothing but the ability to mess with system apk more easily.

Worked perfectly for me.
Got Xposed with GravityBox and more all up and running. No bootloops after multiple reboots as well.

I, too, am in doubt which is the correct/easiest approach for upgrading to Lp 5.0.2 from KK .77 LB.
It appears we can piece together a working solution for a Lp with R/W, Recovery & Xposed Framework:
R/W: e.g. use the one from Meetdaleet, which we apparently can 'dirty' flash directly from .77 to 5.0.2
RECOVERY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606&page=384 -Read post 3837 & jump to 3876 where *NUT* says it will be implemented in DualRecovery
Xposed Framework: see *Serajr*'s post 177
As *NUT* is planning on releasing DualRecovery 2.84 next week I think I'll wait and in the meantime hoping Xposed Framework will be updated also.

I have a problem with Su binary update and installing xposed framework ..
can any one help ??
Thank you so much for this post! I will take this chance to post a couple of questions:
I got MIUI 4.11.28 on my Sony Xperia Z1 (6903). I've installed WSM 2.3.6, after flashing and wiping the 4.11.28 MIUI ROM, because I updated from a previous version.
WSM seems like its working but actually it isn't! On the log of "Framework section", it says "Dexspy found, but it seems to be inactive. Common binaries will be used."
I found previous posts here that mention the same log output but I couldn't find a solution for that.
Also, my device freezes itself from time to time (6~12 hours) and reboots. Even if screen is locked.
Could you give me a hand about this? Thanks!
It is possible for the MIUI to freeze and reboot for now. Because it is based on the official firmware. It is impossible for MIUI auto patch to patch everything perfectly. You know MIUI stop updating MIUI V5 from souce.
Feel so sorry about that

Thanks for your answer! I guess so, it's just I read somewhere here that the spontaneous reboots could be related to WSM. However, I get used to reboot my phone for breakfast, lunch & dinner
My main concern is still what happened with WSM....

The Zip file is formed, but you have to find it. It is not located directly under internal or external SD card. You have to find the exact path where it is created. Unfortunately I don't remember exact path, and I am on Lollipop ROM on my Z1 now, otherwise I would look it up.
Wish you good luck
Looked here: Storage/emulated/0/android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/files??
Of course ! Where did you find it?
hey there, i'm using .28 but it says the media storage has stopped and i can't restore any data from titanium backup...

Download rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2853927
Copy the file to sd card (preferred) or phone memory..
Root your phone
Take TA BACKUP
Install nut's dual recovery
Boot into TWRP recovery
Wipe->Advance wipe->tick system, data, catch, dalvik catch and wipe it
Go back install -> navigate your zip file and install it
Also flash nut's dual recovery flashable zip if you want now.
Go back to home screen -> reboot-> power off
Then turn on the phone and wait..!!
Now you have MIUI.!!

hi guys,
I bought a Z3C and I just checked the bootloader is not locked .
pen the dialler and enter #*#7378423#*# to access the service menu.
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes
I wanted to know if I could flash via Flashtool software directly ?
OK, so I've used the method described in the thread, flashed firmware.zip from recovery on rooted 4.4.4. (.77), after flashing I wiped cache and dalvik, rebooted, android was upgraded, system booted, and all of my apps and settings remained intacted. Is this normal? I expected clean start. I used D5803_23.1.A.0.690_Generic_NCB-Root-XZDR2.8.3-SuperSU.

If you didn´t wipe data in recovery, then no data should be wiped. That´s normal.
Yes, that's it. But, did I had to wipe data? I've read that clean install is recommended. I've noticed no problems in the last couple of hours of usage.
Dirty Flash from 23.0.1.A.5.77
I dirty flashed 23.1.A.0.690 from Greatslon MIUI v5 23.0.1.A.5.77 and still have root.
The phone froze and bootlooped a couple of times when i installed and restarted it, but patience was rewarded, as it finally booted.
I can still mount /system as rw both via adb shell, "onboard" terminal and through Root Browser.
Can i be of some help with a logcat, and in case how?
I am a software developer myself, but in a different branch than android. I just can't see through how i should get started with android development.
Great work guys
I guess i should add, that i still have my bootloader locked.
So to summarize:
>Bootloader locked (never unlocked)
>Firmware 23.1.A.0.690 from this thread
>Full root
>System R/W
Hey,
is there a chance to change the carrier name on the lockscreen? In the upper left corner it says "no service" but my carrier is already set up successfully.
Maybe its just because im from germany and its a generic rom or something. so is there a option to set up manually?
greets
Interesting, I did exactly the same but only have partial root, meaning that my system indicates root but I don't have writing permissions. Tried the ADB fix but did not work. Any other suggestions for getting full root again?
FYI: Nut has mentioned that he fixed recovery in his main development thread and will be working on releasing it to everyone soon.
Tnx for ur great work... but i have problem to download from mega site.. and specialy from the folder...
can anyone give me the direct link of [5.0.2] Firmware 23.1.A.0.690 Generic and A.5.77... not the folder link...
and can anyone tell me where exactly save the file we download from mega site ?
i cant find it anywhere...
Tnx alot.. :xX
How to delete recovery when it not working, thanks
Can't try new xposed for lollipop because it require install from recovery. And recovery not working in 5.0.2

No, system rw is working atm with the newest(2.8.3) release from nut with locked bl. At least for Z3C . the system rw not working refers to other devices.
So when he manages to get the new recovery working you should just be able to install it. That is my hope at least. Anyway in case it doesnt you can backup with titanium backup and after flashing everything again just restore.

Really thanks for the answers, but I'm not sure to have understand (first sony for me).
I have kk, rooted and with locked bootloader. I have no recovery (I can't manage in flashing that without unlock), so how can I flash the preeroted LP?
I understand that if I backup TA, unlock BL, flash a recovery, flash a pre-rooted LP (after a full wipe), flash the last NUT recovery and then relock the BL restoring TA, I should finally have LP with root, R/W, and drm feature right? Am I missing something? Sorry for the High Noob Lvl xD

Go to the thread of NUT dual recovery and (assuming your on a windows pc) download the installer for nut dual recovery. it will let you install the recovery on locked bootloader by running the install.bat file. with this recovery you can then flash a prerooted lollipop zip (you can do it yourself with prf creator, include the newest SuperSU zip and the newest dual recovery zip together with stock lollipop rom) after wiping your phone. people also just flashed over KK but i prefer to do it clean and set up my phone newly again. you will then end up with a phone which has system rw and root on lollipop but the recovery will be gone until NUT fixes it. That is what everybody is waiting for.
So unlocking BL wont really gain you anything except sonys DRM keys not working. it will just introduce an additional step to relock them.
Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
to get into recovery just spam the volume up button(or down since it has two recoveries ) when your phone boots and lights up the led.

Is there a method for lollipop yet? I flashed a prerooted rom but didn't flash the recovery and just rebooted.
Hi!
Can I flash Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.9-RELEASE.flashable right after flashing this Rom?
Hi, i'm having 4.4, 14.4.A.0.157. Rooted with dual recovery.
Based on my understanding, I just need to flash with pre-root.zip and NUTs Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.10-RELEASE.installer.zip. and only need to clear cache before and after install. (As in clear it from recover mode?) Update super su from playstore after install.
Then the phone consider as rooted?
I read through the whole thread and hope someone can clarify the step for me. Thank you.

Something you might want to look into is if you have some sort of Android Emulator on your PC (such as BlueStacks). If so, just terminate the process in the Task Manager and it should work.
I did a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik, etc), install the ROM, but not the recovery (i forgot), now I have a bootloop and does not like leaving, someone help me please?

I haven't got much time, so I'm using block flashing for convenience. Will update to file based flashing if I had time, but users wouldn't feel any difference.

Important!! If you choose systemless root, please choose "Do not install SuperSU" when reboot in TWRP, because TWRP isn't updated to detect this new method. If you choose to install SuperSU within TWRP you'll get stuck in boot loop.
Root Info
Marshmallow root has been much more difficult than simply flash a zip in recovery, because it also requires a modified boot image to work. This root is achieved with SELinux enforced using Chainfire's method.
Chainfire gave us with two rooting methods include:
The traditional root in system, which breaks OTA functionality.
(It's more stable now)
New "systemless" approach, which means the root stuffs are only in DATA and BOOT, the system will stay intact and it will accept OTAs.
(Note that this method is still in beta stage according to CF)
If you are already on the stock rom and you want root, this is where you'd be interested with.
Choose your preferred root method above, and follow the correspond instructions below.
Instructions:
Traditional:
Flash m8-mm-su-boot.zip in attachment with TWRP
Flash SuperSU 2.52
Systemless:
Be sure you haven't used any other root method(like the traditional one above), if you've rooted with other methods, please re-flash your system back to pure stock
Flash m8-mm-su-boot-systemless.zip in attachment with TWRP
Download SuperSU-v2.56-20151030013730.zip in this thread, and flash it through TWRP
Important!! Please choose "Do not install SuperSU" when reboot in TWRP, because TWRP isn't updated to detect this new method. If you choose to install SuperSU within TWRP you'll get stuck in bootloop.
Disable S-ON System Write Protection
After you rooted, you might find out that your system partition is locked up, this is because of HTC's system write protection on S-ON devices, and here is a handy mod for you to bypass it. Original mod by flar2, I modified it to work on MM.
Instructions:
You have to use the traditional root method above to make this work!!
Flash m8-mm-wp_mod.zip in attachment
Sweep to Sleep module
A handy mod to turn of the screen by swiping the bottom of the screen. Original mod by flar2, I modified it to work on MM.
Instructions:
This will flash files to system, there is no point in using systemless method, but it should be OK
Flash m8-mm-s2s_mod.zip in attachment
FAQ
Q: After choosing full wipe, my contents in internal storage are all gone!!
A: No, it's not. It seems that Marshmallow treats my full wipe script differently. After each clean flash, it will move all previous files in /sdcard into /sdcard/0. You can just move them back to the proper locations. No big deal!
Q: I cannot install Busybox in system / I cannot use adaway !!
A: Flash wp_mod.
Q: I used systemless root and wanted to keep my system partition intact, how do I install Busybox?
A: Download Busybox Pro, type /su/bin as the installation path for busybox. You cannot do it using the free version, unfortunately.
Q: **** app cannot access external SDcard!!
A: Look at this explanation:
Since Kitkat (2 years ago man), we don't have direct external storage write permission. Google consider it insecure, so they implemented this feature. The reason why you can access external SDcard easily before is because most roms on XDA already contains a hack in /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml. You should not rely on this hack forever, please take a look below.
In lollipop and after, Google provided a much secure and better way to grant external storage access to third party apps, first of all take a look at this article for details:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...s-automatic-mediastore-and-improves-security/
So instead of using the old platform.xml hack in the old Kitkat days, adopt yourself with this new behavior of Android!! If a certain app cannot access SDcard, ASK THE DEVELOPER to add support for this API!!
Many apps already have support for this API. I'll take Titanium Backup for example, as lots of you cannot find the way to use it on externals SD. In Menu>>Preferences>>Backup Location, you can choose Document Provider on top of the detect button.
In the provider, open the menu on the top right corner and select "Show SDcard", then you'll see External Storage in the left side. Select external SDcard in the document provider and press the button on the bottom, the app will then be granted access to the whole external storage. You can then create a new folder in TiBack and select it as your backup location.
Other apps also follows the instructions above, you just have to manually set up the folder where the app can access, in the case which most of us would love to give access to the whole SDcard, I set the location to the root of external storage. Each app has independent permission, so you have to manually grant each app you wish to access external storage.
Q: I want OTA, what should I do?
A: Look at the following info
To accept OTA updates, you need the following:
Your MID should be 0P6B11000 or 0P6B12000
Your CID should be BS_US001 or BS_US002
You have to keep system partition untouched
You have to have stock recovery
So before anything, if you want to accept OTA, you have to change MID, CID, flash the stock firmware. The tricky part is the system partition and the recovery. The easiest way is when the OTA comes, flash the stock rom again without root, flash stock recovery through fastboot, then apply OTA. But if you like to go the hardcore way, here comes a tutorial:
fastboot flash systemless_boot.img
fastboot boot TWRP.img(so that you can use TWRP but you didn't actually flash it)
Flash systemless SuperSU
By doing so you can accept OTA at anytime.

whats the procedure to flash a firmware please?

How to install ElementalX Kernel

I'm a newbie and my phone is at Marshmallow 6.0.1, rooted with Nexus Root Toolkit su (with SuperSU 2.62)
later flashed twrp, now want to install ElementalX Kernel.
Do I need to unroot the system, and then flash the kernel with twrp?
thanks in advance.
The kernel is the boot.img. Just flash it via TWRP and it will automatically be present.
And why do you specifically want to install Elementalx? If you've got a working rooted phone, why continue to mess with it? Continual unnecessary tweaking is the sure way to end up with a glass-and-metal paperweight...

Better flash superSU2.65.zip (latest atm).
Not necessarily better. Versions after 2.62 have a number of comments across various threads saying that root doesn't work for them. 2.62 uses a different method from the later versions. 2.62 works fine for me and (from the silence in the forums) for most people, so upgrading to 2.64/2.65 is probably taking an unnecessary risk.
And again, why try to install a different kernel on a working rooted device? It makes no sense to me unless there's an amazing function that will make a discernable difference, and personally I don't believe that any kernel makes that much of a difference in real-life normal usage.

Not something i'd agree with since CPU governors and I/O schedulers can make allot of difference to "real life normal usage", obviously this depends on what the developer impliments and user choice.
there are times that I'll run elementalx kernel, but I ALWAYS change the governor and scheduler. always. as I can't stand the way that its set up. personally, I always use ondemand with deadline

Wondering how you achieved root.I am unable using the stock kernel.TWRP installed just fine.Do you mind sharing your procedure?
Download SuperSU v2.62-3 (you can try later versions, but some people have reported that they don't work for them - v2.62 works fine for me and many others). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125
Copy the zip file to a folder in your Nexus 6 - say, Downloads, it doesn't really matter which one.
Boot into TWRP. Press Install. Navigate to the folder where the SuperSU zip file is and select it. Swipe in TWRP to install it. DO NOT accept any offer from TWRP to root your device (again) - you'll break it. Once installed, just reboot system. Done.
To install elementalx, just flash in recovery.

Silliness. Why are you even on xda with that attitude? He probably wants to install it so he can use some of the added features and enhancements.
"Why are you even on xda with that attitude?" Ditto. We're all entitled to our opinions, and my opinion is that a lot of noobs do stuff just to see what happens, and the result is that they're in forums asking after the event "How do I fix this?" rather than "How do I do this?", and in both cases without any particular need or reason or understanding of what they want. And this is a typical thread - an admitted noob wants to install a specific kernel, and still hasn't said why (though he/she has thanked me, which I appreciate ). I think that to warn noobs about unnecessary tinkering is doing them a service - isn't that why we all respond to questions?

Thanks very much -so to be clear that was with the Stock kernel?
I am running 3.10.40-g557ba38
Trying to avoid a brick situation, sorry to be a bother..
Yes, stock kernel. As I understand it, the SuperSU backs up and replaces the stock kernel (as part of the boot image) and will restore it if you unroot. You just need to follow the instructions as written - it's exactly what I did on my stock 6.0.1 ROM.
Awesome thanks again.

Thanks again-this worked out perfectly and I am running Cyanide which has made me very happy so far.REALLY fast and smooth.Everything working great so far.Loving my N6- who needs Samsung! I just had to edit the .xml file for the Music volume other than that the ROM seems about perfect.
