Receiving calls - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else had issue when receiving call notification will pop-up and can't click on it. Have to Swipe notification. Then pull drop down notification panel then click on answer or dismiss. Tried changing interruptions in notification settings still won't work having [emoji36]

I haven't found that specifically, but I have found that the new nexus devices (both 6 and 9) seem to be a bit odd in processing touches. Like when you unlock it, it takes a moment before it will actually respond to a touch. As an experiment, make a point of ensuring that there is no part of *anything* in contact with the screen glass while you are pressing that answer button. Not a case, not any part of your hand.

Prximity Sensor problem....

Hi, I have a huge problem. Every time I make a call, preferably my voicemail, it asks me to press a number in the keypad.
Okay, that's fine. But the only problem is the screen blacks out immediately when the call is made and I cannot choose any of the options. I'm still in the call, although it will repeat the options for about a minute and just end the call.
I can't end the call manually or use the keypad. Tried pressing the lock button, the search, the menu, and Back button. Nothing seems to work.
Is there anything I can do about this? Because this is really becoming a hinderance.
Hi the proximity sensor should brighten the display up the moment you take it away from your ear, if it dosent prpbably there is a problem with it and you need to check it out with either the provider or HTC if you can.
normally to end call you click on the notification on top of the phone.
It is kinda annoying there is no physical button to end calls but i guess thats touchscreens for you
Probabily you use one case
that cover the proximty sensor
I don't use any case or screen protiction... maybe I should to replace it...Thanks..

I had the same problem. Hard reset solved it. Also solved a problem I had connecting with intermittent connections to Wifi. I think a bum app may have caused the problems.
Starting to happen again, not like last time though. Now it's intermitent and seem to recover when the other end hangs up. May try to get a replacement phone this time.
From what I've seen around the internet this is an OS issue... And it happens to me intermittently as well, though my lock button brightens the display... It seems to have something to do with the screen timeout and the lock screen enabling itself...
Mine had the same issue.
I would pull it away from my face, nothing.
Laid it down flat, nothing
Occasionally it would flash.
I had to return it, no problems since.
The sensor must have been loose and slid behind the open area of the glass.
If you can still, get a replacement
My replacement is in the mail. I have found that if I shake or tap the phone it will flicker and come back during a call. I think the sensor is faulty.

Notifications on Marshmellow

Is it just me or are notification just broke in MM or the N6 in general? I'm under the impression that the N6 has a Proximity Sensor but unlike it's half brother the Moto X waving your hand over the display doesn't do anything. Is this correct because if not mine doesn't work.
The other thing is it might or might not make a notification sound when notification comes in or it might or might not always light up the display. And if it does it may only flash the lock screen two or three times and then it just stops. Picking up the phone may or may not trigger the screen to light up. It doesn't matter if it is a Gmail, Text or a Calendar reminder. The notifications in MM just seem broken to me at least on the N6. My N7 works properly other then it doesn't have the Ambient Display.
I've reset the phone. I've flashed the stock factory images. I've played with the settings until I think I've turned on and off every switch there is to change. I've been stock, or stock rooted but nothing changes. The notifications are just wonky and my N6.
One last little rant while I'm in the mood. Why doesn't the N6 support 360 degree rotation? Seems silly that my N7 does but that "feature" isn't part of the N6. Come on Google get it together already.
Over all I like everything about this phone and MM in general which is more then I can say for LP when it first landed. But man this notification issue is just driving me nuts.
So is it just me and my phone?
Thanks,
fasthair
It won't show notifications if you wave your hand, it will light up when you receive a notification and when you pick up or move your phone though
I usually just use the LED notification but ambient display works every time when I have it enabled.
In your settings area, under sounds/notifications- check your do not disturb settings and make sure those settings are correct for how you want them, when and what makes noise for notifications.

Does not trigger on proximity. You need to BONK the phone -- it uses a motion sensor.

There are a few things that can impact it. For instance the proximity sensor will *DISABLE* notification display. The reason for this, is that it indicates that the phone is in your pocket or something. If the screen lights up in your pocket, it enables the touch sensor, and makes it possible for your pocket to push buttons. Two or three times sounds right. That's what its supposed to do, not blink perpetually.

N7 is a tablet. N6 is a phone. Making sure to keep track of "which way is UP" is useful so you don't try to talk into the speaker and listen from the microphone. Consider for a moment, you are browsing a website with the phone upside down, a phone call comes in, HUD notification shows from what visually appears to be the top of the phone, you answer, and put it on your head upside down. Alternatively, if the phone call forces it to right-side-up notification, you end up fumbling around with it trying to right side up it while in the process of hitting the answer button.
Thanks for the replies folks.
I do Bonk the phone to get it to light up and see if there is notifications. It just seems silly to me that I have to touch the phone when it's laying on my desk to see if I've missed a notification of some sort. I really miss the LED notification. Yes I know there is a hack to make the LED work on this phone but it works just as wonky for me. To me notifications are just broke since the only way to know if you missed something is pick up the phone, more or less, and look instead of just giving the phone a glance to see if the LED is blinking and what color it is to tell what type of notification it is. Anyway, now that I know it is supposed to be this way I'll just have to get used to it. I did find some settings under the Do Not Disturb as @DroidFire pointed out where off a bit. Adjusting those has helped so thanks for pointing me to look there.
The point about the N6 being a phone and as such no 360 degree rotation makes sense now that it is pointed out as @doitright has done so well. Thanks for that bit of logic.

Just keep in mind that it was a temporary oversight on google's part. The 5x/6p went back to blinking notification lights. It was an interesting, but frustrating idea.
I think that the notification light can fairly easily be made to work reliably, but without blinking. Would end up needing at least part of the OS to be rebuilt. The hacks that you found that are unreliable, are addons rather than component replacements. That's why they are unreliable.

Screen stops responding during call

I've had this problem with 2 different roms now (PureNexus, Chroma) on a few kernels (stock, ElementalX) so I'm not sure whats causing it but I need a fix. In a call, many times the screen just stops responding. Sometimes I can turn the screen on/off using power button and its fixed. Other times nothing works and I have to do a hard reboot by holding down power key since nothing else works on screen.
This is on latest version of the rom/kernels. Any ideas?
When you say its stops responding, do you mean it goes dark and nothing displays on screen? Or that its on with everything displaying but tapping it does nothing?
Only when in contact with ears?

Its on, touch doesn't do anything. The phone is working since volume keys bring up the UI but you can't do anything. Also proximity sensor works, it turns on/off as I bring near ear. I don't have a screen protector.

I'm having a similar issue from the last month.. I'm on DP5
when i get a call most times the screen is off.
To answer the call i've to put on the screen, unlock the phone and then go to the heads up notification and choose answer there..
waiting for nougat final hoping it'll fix this.
Tried fiddling around with notifications importance setting.. it helped a little but then there was the annoying heads up showing along with the regular incoming call screen.
Sometimes (very rarely, has happened twice) the screen just remains black and will only work normally after a reboot.
Anybody have any suggestions?
I was having similar issues, also on the Developer Preview and I ended up noticing that the phone app was blocked from showing any notifications despite the fact that I never set it that way. I would hear the call ringing but would never see the screen to answer. Just changed that setting and everything was back to normal. Perhaps something is causing the phone app to fail to show notifications for you as well.

Incoming phone calls no longer show on screen

When my phone rings, the only way for me to answer is to pull down from the top of the phone and then click to answer or decline. It no longer shows on full screen.
I've checked all the full screen app settings and pretty much everywhere that I can think of.
The call also shows on my LG Watch Urbane, so I can answer it there...
Any thoughts on where this setting is?
Figured it out. Upon phone call, I could see the pop-up when I slide the screen down from the top. Then slowly swipe to the left or right revealing the setup gear. Tap it.
Phone calls were set to "muted". I changed it to show all notifications and voila! Now it is working again.

Calls not showing

I've noticed that my Note 9 will not sure an incoming call on the screen. If one comes in, it will show in the notification bar, but will not wake up screen and show on main screen. Same thing with text message notifications, does not wake screen or give a notification in pull down. I have to go to messages app to check those.
Anyone with similar issues? Anyone know where to look for any setting changes?

Nevermind. Figured it out. Somehow the Do Not Disturb was turned on to a "Until I turn it off" setting. I had it on a schedule to turn on at night and off in the morning so, it did not even cross my mind to check it until recently. So, if anyone has this, make sure to check that out.
