Donot update lolipop... - Galaxy Note 4 General

My friend got update to lolipop 5.0.1 he ruined his phone battery life..total screen on time 3 hours just
my 4.4.4 kitkat give me this battery life almost 6 hours withour powersaving mode
here is proof

I'm getting 6hr or more with average use on Lollipop 5.0.1

Lots of people who updated, have a little bit less battery runtime with lollipop then with kitkat. I think using "ruined" is a lil over the top. It's a bug in Lollipop (no need to prove your statement) and is on the Nexus and HTC devices too. Still getting easily a full day on a single charge

I can't wait for the update. I'm getting 3 hours SOT with 4.4.4

@Lyrah battery life seems good lol...that is almost the same I am getting.

Over all poorer battery life with lollipop but still not to the extend of "ruined my phone". It is still a good update.

There are always sissies that want to complain. Nothing wrong with lollipop. And don't compare it with kitkat that is using a custom kernel probably

I don t think 2 hours SOT down on non root phone is acceptable update.

It's his personal bug. Samsung never said to him, flash with odin. So don't complain if he is using a unofficially tool. If you do use odin, always wipe your phone or life with it.

Yeah, lollipop destroyed my battery life too, down to 3 hours SOT if I'm lucky, before it was 4:30-5ish hours

Question is: Have you done a factory reset or not? If not, you can complain all day long.

So battery usage for person A compared to person B in an uncontrolled unscientific test....and it "ruined his phone" ?
OK.....

As usual many unhelpful comments. Try turning off wifi when not required. I have the problem and it's much improved by manually turning it off. There appears to be a bug randomly affecting users. Mine was actually fine for the first 3 or 4 days then one day it died really quickly. Wifi was the culprit.

This is what I get with LP. Much worst than KK. I have done full wipe after update N910c

People get an update they've been anxiously waiting for and as a result play with their phone more. Then they complain the battery life is "ruined".
If you're rooted you need to do a couple of things.
Give the new ROM a day to "settle down". This is also for you so that you fall back into normal usage habits.
Then charge your phone to full. Wipe battery stats. Discharge all the way to empty then charge to full again.
You'll get a lot more battery life if you do that each time a new ROM is flashed.
Lastly, calm down. Put down the sky-is-falling megaphone.
---------- Post added at 04:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ----------
I'd also like to add. I can't help but laugh when I see the screen shots as "proof" when the app usage list shows Facebook, or a game, or some other third party app as the culprit. Oh But it's samsungs lollipop updates fault Yeah?

You're a joke and as old as your advices are. I'm not rooted. I use FB for 5 minutes and it stays connected as all apps that use Internet.
They stay connected even if you use them for 1 minute.
Also even if I didn't wanted to have FB it comes preinstalled.
I'm no child and my use pattern is the same as KK.
Stop being an smartie and if you have no real solution to a problem don't comment. Unless it hurts your loved one, Samsung, which no one said was it's fault.
It's just the buggy 5.0.1.

Whatever you say bro. I told you how to fix it. Sure it's old advice but no one seems to do it. And it's a sound practice that has solved nearly every battery life issue I've had with any phone.
And i wasn't speaking to you specifically, just commenting on a general pattern I see with battery complaints. But I see now your screenshot shows Facebook as the top app. So maybe you thought I was talking to you alone. I replied before I even got to the last page.
But funny, you only used it for five minutes and it's the top app. Hmm...so sort of makes my point stronger about a 3rd party app sucking down battery life eh? More reason to root and dump the bloatware.
And sure, your usage behavior remained firmly rooted in stone with a brand new update. whatever you say.
And my love for Samsung? Please I've got iPhones, htc, motorola.... It's the same overblown complaining in every manufacturer's forum.
Take a chill pill.

I'm chilled. I don't want to root just to get rid of bloat that shouldn't had been there in the first place.
And my usage has remained rooted in stones as you say indeed. It's just an update which should had never been pushed with so many bugs.

with lollipop I have one houre more SOT (7 hours, 6 with KitKat) and I am very happy with the update!

Battery question

So for the last 2 days before work, I would charge my phone completly to 100%. I work at 4am and it would be 99%....ok forward ahead 2-3 hours, ill check my phone and its at 20%. I've already check tsk manger both days but I only leave panda firewall running and alarming!
Is this defective battery? Or something else? Any ideas.

Do you have an extra battery to test with or just the one? If you have two batteries, it would be easier to diagnose whether the first battery is defective based on how fast the second battery drains. It might be worth borrowing a friends or buying one on amazon. You can get the OEM battery for relatively cheap nowadays (<$20)
Also depending on how long you have had your phone for you can call T-Mobile up and complain. I did this and got a free 2nd battery. Just tell them you have already gone through troubleshooting steps by turning off gps, bluetooth, wifi, 3g, and lowered the screen brightness. Even if you are over your allowed time I'm sure if you talk right you still might get a free battery, my friend did to.

Yeah, I did this too, but that was a while ago (November or December) when it seems that T-Mobile was handing out batteries like candy to pacify all the people that were upset with battery life. I didn't know if people were still succeeding in getting a battery for free, but that is definitely worth a try first.

You might have to call them up. I don't think they will do it in the store, but again if you know how to talk anything can happen.
I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not, but when I was running Cyanogens roms above 3.6.5 I would get horrible battery readings. I'd reboot and it would says something different.
I believe its a known bug in Cupcake builds about battery readings. Cyanogen did post up a link to Android's official bug tracker but I can't remember the link by memory.
Also try calibrating your battery too and use a program like Watts to track your battery usage over time.
Also using the Open Overclocker widget is amazing, you can set the Screen Off CPU frequency, forcing the CPU to scale down when idle. I'm not 100% sure if Cyanogen's ROM does this on default or not though but I know it does do CPU scaling.
Posting here since its battery related .. ever since the upgrade to crc1 my battery charges extremely slow .. like it wont go to 100 percent in 8hrs .. but when I restart it at like 80% it will show 100, but if i leave it there long enough im sure it will keep climing slowly in percentage. Anyone else having problems like this?
Yes, it's a known bug.
Fully charge your battery then do the following.
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
The battery reading will be more accurate.
Alot were right, nothing can be done in store. They pretty much shooed me away and said to call 611. Did. Told me to call HTC. Can't cause there closed lol. Anyways im going to try what Prettyboy said, but I'm turn the phone off I think to charge it fully. No extra battery though =/ They said I would have to provide a CC to get them to send an extra battery and then send the old one back.

thanks for this. but what does it exactly do??
It deletes the old battery stats file and Android creates a new one, which would be more accurately calibrated. Think of it like a battery stats reset.

[Q] Problem with my new Vietnamese galaxy note battery!

Hello everyone, yesterday i figured a big problem with the battery of my 3 Weeks note.
I'm so upset and its driving me crazy.
I screen captured this. Battery life became so short it hardly works for 10 hours maximum if i don't use it much. Thanks
might want to get rid of that any.do app or change the settings. .
No i don't think any do is the problem as i downloaded it about 2 Weeks ago, and the problem started just yesterday.
what settings do you think i should modify?
well maybe any do wasn't the problem 2 weeks ago.. but it is the problem now.. why ask if u aren't going to take advice?
do you have the original samsung batterie? or an cheap rebuilt one? I've made some bad experience with cheap chinese batteries...
Do you have the stock kernel? In some old versions of Abyss Kernel i had bad batterie lives...
Dear bambo i did take advice and deleted the app. I've formatted the device 30 minutes ago as well.
Still having the same problem.
Mr David its the phone's original battery made in Japan finished in China
I took a screen shot after the formatting. Its just getting worse.
Thanks for helping guys

Try badass battery monitor pro and see what may be keeping the phone awake, or waking it up often.
what graph?
I've had loads of batt drain problems, and found the batt stats app to be really misleading.
In nearly all cases a random app 'appeared' to be the culprit but further investigation yielded it as being some other app filling the system log (logcat). Try looking at something you installed more recently. Uninstall them one by one and check foe when the batt drain stops. That'll be your culprit I reckon.
The more complicated approach is to install something like catlog from Google Play and read through the system log and try to work it out that way. I used his approach to discover WidgetLocker was capping my juice even though AVG was being reported as the battery hog!

Go to market and install Better Battery Stats. It will give you all the wakelocks and the culprit apps and kernel that might be eating your battery and not allowing the device to go into deep sleep and conserve battery !
Thanks for helping guys, I formatted the phone yesterday.
I‘am afraid the battery has a hardware problem. I'll have to contact the store I think, thanks to ALLAH I have 1 year full warranty. But I've got 2 questions for you guys:
1- I charge the phone while sleeping, so it stays plugged about 4 hours after its fully charged. Does that shorten the battery ‘a life?
2- Does the Android get viruses? Cuz if its not a battery problem, it might be a virus though.

I don't think you quite understand this app.
That time up top that I'm pretty sure you're reading isn't your wakelock time (in fact, your wakelock time seems to be pretty low as far as power consumption goes). It's the amount of time that the app has detected you've been off the wall (since it doesn't record statistics until you go off the wall).
Your battery life is basically at the upper ceiling of someone using a smartphone as a smartphone. I don't quite see why you're still complaining about battery life, especially after people pointed out you were fine in your last thread on this.

Facebook Messenger battery drain

I've been having battery drain for a while I do recall not having that bad battery use when I first got the phone one app that I did recently install was Facebook messenger. I did notice before I did remove it today that it was my biggest battery drainer at the top of the list. My battery drained just by playing music to 80sh percent after one hour or less. After I removed it I'm getting low to mid 90℅ during the same time. Big difference. Just trying to help those who are having bad battery life with the phone.

Yeah, messenger and facebook apps drain battery a lot and also eat RAM much. If you still want to use them, just greenify them Saves RAM and battery and no background process
Facebook Messenger is known to use a lot of battery life. I prefer using the mobile webpage via Chrome, it's much better than the app itself.
After a few days without messenger its been a big difference in battery life. I do have CleanRom as well on T-Mobile. Just removed it on my nexus 7 today. Same ROM.

Always do it the manual way and not a toolkit. Toolkits are great to having the job done but you don't learn anything while doing so. The manual way is super easy as well, even easier than a toolkit.
Especially on a Mac since you won't have to download drivers. There's a stickied post in n6 general with a step by step guide.

I noticed the battery drain issue with Messenger, as well. My battery dropped to below 70% in about 4 hours and noticed Messenger was the biggest drain. I hadn't even been using Messenger. Uninstalled the app and battery was back to normal.
Battery DRAIN not battery usage
Hey guys. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this thread is about Facebook Messenger really DRAINING the battery, not just the app's (intended) high battery consumption. I've had these issues as well over the past couple of days. My battery would run out within a matter of 8-9 hours, where I usually get 30 hours+ out of my OnePlus One - and that was even though I was barely using Messenger.
I attached 2 screenshots showing the issue.
As a temporary fix I had uninstalled Messenger and that seemed to do the trick. My phone had used up only 20% battery within 8 hours ago (compared to 100% before).
There was a thead on reddit about this as well (here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2vrcuj/facebook_messenger_causing_massive_battery_drain/)
One of the replies was:
UPDATE: WE RESOLVED THE ISSUE. Details: We identified a syncing issue on Android that was affecting people’s battery life. We have fixed the issue and Messenger should be back to normal. Not sure if this is really fixed now, but I just installed Messenger again and I will be monitoring the apps battery usage.
Let us know! I really do like the app and it's handy. In fact, for a few weeks I went all in with facebook and installed facebook Home and used Messenger strictly as my texts and fb messages. It really does work well and chat bubbles are fun and useful. I wish I could integrate Chatheads with hangouts.

Well, as I said earlier today, I had re-installed the app and from what I can tell so far the battery drain problem really seems to be fixed. In the last 5 hours - with the app installed and running the background - battery on my phone went down by 8%. Just a day ago, within those same 5 hours the Messenger app would have drained battery by ~70% easily. If anything changes I'll let you know.
I noticed this the other day too out of the blue. Uninstalled it for now, can message within the Facebook app.

I thought you couldn't. I tried but it says I need to install messenger? Isn't that the stink that everyone brought up a little bit ago?

back to KitKat

Got tired of battery life on Lolipop, wakelocks, mystery drains etc etc, Went back to kitKat a few days ago and to be honest it feels like I've gotten my phone back.
I had recently put in a new battery so the phone is stable, flying and lasts a whole day with some juice left over.
Was this meant to be a PM?

And its rooted ? Using apps like servicely or greenify ?
Umm? Is this an actual thread?
Either way, are you sure that 'Google Services' were not draining battery due to the continuous, checking for OTA - failing, rechecking preventing the phone from going into 'Deep Sleep' state?

No, just felt like venting and described my experience to see if any others had similar.

I'm actually with you on this one... Went back to 4.4.4 Omnirom. Google services seems to behave much better. I had a tasker script that disabled the update service on boot, but still get significantly worse on lollipop. I also used appops and tried a few roms with no luck.
KitKat has better battery life by far. Such a disappointment.

yep ,been a huge disappointment on my device but perhaps its better on other brands etc , it would appear google have taken their eyes off the ball here, i hope its not a sign of future quality control to come.
