download any note 3 or note 4 rom, extract the keyboard.apk and try installng. probably need to put it in system/priv-app and set permissions to rw-r-r. also probably needs TW framework so either certain functions will FC or it won't work at all.

Yeah, it will force close without touchwiz.
Personally, I love the Google keyboard and you can get a similar setup as the note series. In settings --> language and input, you can go under Google keyboard. Select 'appearance and layouts', then 'custom input style'. You can add a new layout with the '+' button at the top right. Select 'US' as your language and 'PC' as your layout.
Save, go back to 'appearance and layout' and select 'languages'. Turn off the default and select your layout with US and PC.
Now you'll get a keyboard layout similar to the note series based off the PC keyboard layout. I think it uses the screen real estate better than the default layout and while it's not a perfect duplicate of the note series, I've personally come to prefer this setup.
Just a suggestion instead of beating your head against touch wiz, which I did plenty of myself when I first switched to AOSP!

Yeah PC is pretty cool, I prefer to just use one of Shaftamale's themed Google keyboards thats add a number row to the regular keyboard.
OP, if there's specific features of the Samsung keyboard that you're looking for, we might be able to tell you about a third party alternative that offers those features. Lots of great keyboard options on the Play Store these days.

Try swiftkey, it works great plus you can add # key row and arrow keys plus a lot of really cool settings

Not gonna happen. Try thumb keyboard.

Open Split Keyboard

I'm working on a new free split keyboard designed for people who use connectbot or have other full keyboard needs. It's out on the market now. I've heard there are problems on the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I'm still waiting for a logcat from someone with a tab to send me a log cat. It currently only supports 1280x (xoom) resolution devices. Any suggestions on changes to the key layout? I'll probably be adding a Dvorak mode soon (the original version had it).
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.doubtech.inputmethod.latin&feature=search_result
This is an early release of a free Holo themed split keyboard. It currently only supports 1280x800 screens (Xoom, Iconia Tab, etc).
Notable Features
* Selectable Themes (Holographic, Gingerbread, Stone)
* Multiple keyboard modes (split, full, and one handed)
* 100% customizable key and key label color combinations. See the "Colorize" options in Theme Settings on the keyboard preference page.
Keyboard Selection Gestures:
* Swipe right or left to toggle keyboards swipes must be pretty large (avoids accidental keyboard changes)
Change Log
Added support for setting key background and label colors.
--
Fixed a bug where keyboard wouldn't reload after a full system reboot.
--
Removed gesture mode in favor of using swipes for switching keyboards. Gestures were preventing some multitouch capabilities from working.
--
Added ability to change keyboard theme (see Keyboard Theme option in preferences).
Rearranged keyboard so space and other functions are farther from the notification bar.
I am trying it out now and its so far better than the tablet keyboard free I was using. I like the predictive text, but it lags a little.
Been checking it out for the last couple hours. Buttons are a little small but I really like the look and function. Great job.
I like it because it flows more with the HC UI and design.
I know it's an early build so I took that into account.
Right off the bat, you can tell that it just LOOKS nice. Functionally, I have only a few issues which don't take away from the effort that the Dev is putting into this.
The keys are a little small so there is more room for making typo's.
The auto-correct needs some more polish.
I use Thumb Keyboard 4 and like the ability to switch between 1 of 3 layouts (Split, Full and One Handed).
There is a bit more wasted space between the key sections which could be used to make the keys slightly larger.
Regardless of those minor issues, I have been using it all day and quite honestly am getting used to it and am liking what I see, a LOT.
I'll keep this installed and updated to keep an eye on what comes out. A lot of promise and if this is a preview of what else this Dev can do, keep an eye on their other stuff!!!
Ok, why do keyboard devs HATE putting a comma key on the main keydoard sceeen? LOL!
Oh, other than the comma thing, when pressing and holding the backspace key, it does the repeat.
Also, when ending a sentence, doing a dounle space, it does not perfoem an auto period.
Does not auto capiltalize the letter i when placed on it's own.
I'm going to keep using it though!!!!!!

The keys are that small so there is little stretching to reach the main keys. I could possibly make this customizable, but that would be down the road (not a simple task).

Not sure when I'll get to mess with this, I don't really use it so it's lower priority for me

What do you think of the layouts on the attached screenshots for one handed mode?
For full I usually just switch to the regular keyboard, but it wouldn't be hard to add a full keyboard mode as well.
I love the look but i would love for:
Fast backspacing (only one at a time right now)
Make the .com and ?123 larger buttons
And possibly make the letter keys a little?diffdrent from number keys as it is a somewhat hard to tell
Put ! On the main keyboard
Other than that amazing!

New Version on Market
I fixed the problem with backspace not repeating.
New Release
I put the latest version on the market. It includes a new full keyboard and a swappable one handed keyboard. You can now swype or use gestures to switch between keyboards. Let me know if there's anything about keyboard layouts that you would like to see changed.
Great work but there needs to be a little change between letters and everything else. The different colors make the stock one easy to use. If you improve your ease of use, you can start charging money( and possibly donating it to your favorite charity?)

Are you thinking possibly a slightly lighter color for numeric characters vs alpha characters or are you requesting a theme more like the stock keyboard altogether?
Ok, love this keyboard with a couple of exceptions :
1) space key is too close to the bottom, I keep touching the home key or the notification bar...
2) I accidentally switched it to full size and I want it split again...I don't even know how I got it to full...
Other than that this is awesome.

There are several ways to switch keyboard modes.
* There is a keyboard button on the bottom row of each keyboard that will switch to the next keyboard mode. If you want a list of keyboard types (Split, One Handed, or Full) you can long press the keyboard key to get a popup menu.
* You can also switch keyboards by swiping to the right or left.
* You can go straight to the split keyboard by drawing a S on the keyboard
Would a lock keyboard mode button help with the accidentally swapping keyboard problem?

New Version on Market
Turns out the last couple revisions didn't get released (goofy new multiapk changes to market publishing).
This version includes:
* Ability to change themes. People who like the gingerbread theme can now switch to it if they go to Keyboard Settings->Keyboard Theme
* There's now space between the spacebar and other core bottom row keys and the notification bar.
* You can disable gestures so you don't accidentally change keyboards or you just don't like gestures. (See "Disable Gestures" in Keyboard Settings)
* You can lock the selected keyboard so you don't accidentally change keyboards. (See "Lock keyboard to selected keyboard?" in Keyboard Settings)
* Colors on space and other control keys have changed in holo mode.

New version out. I changed the gesture method for switching keyboards. Using actual gestures was breaking multitouch features of the keyboard so I switched to using swipe gestures for switching keyboard. This method is also less sensitive so you are less likely to accidentally switch keyboards.
I think I found a bug. Might be the xoom or the rom not sure.
Issue is if I reboot, I lose the setting for this keyboard. I tried to re-enable this keyboard in settings but it was not in the list. I had to uninstall it after trying to clear the cache in applications which didn't work.
Only uninstall/install brought it back.
Anything you would like me to check or test?

[Q] How to set SWYPE as default keyboard?

Hi,
I couldn't find solution for my problem so I made that thread.
I'm freaking out when I reboot my phone, wanna send message or something and ******* android default keyboard comes up. I must go back, go to the settings, laungage & keyboard and, set swype as default and then change input method. Can I replace system keyboard app with SWYPE? If yes then how?
Delete LatinIME.apk from /system/app
Amazing, it worked! Thanks. Problem solved.
No problem, you could delete Userdictionaryprovider too since its only used for the stock keyboard.
[Q] How to make transparent status bar?
made post not thread, sorry -.-
Now I am using KM Launcher (swype in portrait and smart keyboard pro in landscape mode) and again I must check everytime this keyboard in settings after reboot. What should I do?

Swype as default keyboard
Simply ensure that swype is not installed to SD card.
Then, go to settings and set Swpe as default keyboard
When using keyboard, for the 1st time after this,
Long press TAB and again select Swype.
That is it

Simple keyboard switcher for TPT

I wrote a small app as a proof of concept that allows you to change between UK & US layouts when using the folio keyboard. This is designed to be used on the cyanogen port by Koshu.
I fixed up a small problem with the US layout recently (YEN symbol not recognised). If you'd like to try it out the APK is attached. The general usage is that you run the app, click the button of the language you want to use and:
1) If this is the first time you're doing it you may need to reboot the tablet
2) Otherwise just plug the folio out and back in again.
To be safe make a backup of /system/usr/keychars/Vendor_1241_Product_0003_Version_0110.kcm first and use that to restore your default keyboard layout if something is amiss. The restore button in the app needs a bit of work and all it does right now is to delete the files that it created.
Sounds very cool, but I don't have that file. Running 089 WE.
This is mainly designed for use with the Cyanogen port that Koshu is working on, sorry I forgot to mention that.
For stock ROMs I think lenovo edited the Generic.kcm, Generic.kl files to suit the keyboard layouts.

This is very easy. If you install Morelocale2 app, you will get Russian keyboard automaticly. But you wan't be able to switch it to English and back automatic ly. Or you can install any keyboard you want to system/app folder and use nook tools to switch keyboards.

Thanks for you response. I successfully installed Morelocale2 app and now I have UI in Russian. However, standard keyboard still shows only English characters even with Nook Tools showing keyboard language as 'Russian'
As for installing additional keyboard - any recommendations here? This is my first Android device so I don't have too much knowledge of it.I tried to install what was claimed to be a standard ICS keyboard but it kept crashing every few seconds...
Touchpal has a Russian language pack that will change your keyboard's layout to the Cyrillic lettering. And you can easily change between layouts on the fly without closing the keyboard.

This still does not work. Once I put "TouchPal_Keyboard_4.8.apk" into system/app, reboot and switch to it from Nook Tools I'm getting popup message "Touchpal Keyboard stopped" every 5 seconds and that's it.

Folder /data/data/com.cootek.smartinputv5/lib is empty
In my case, for Smart Keyboard Pro, full sequence looks like this:
1. install SKP;
2. copy apk to system/app;
3. change permissions to wr-r-r;
4. copy files from data/data/com.smartkeyboard/lib to system/lib;
5. reboot device;
6. choose SKP in Nook Color tools as a default;
7. profit)
Unexpected outcome: after I've selected the Russian layout as an option in SKP, in Nook color tools appears choice to mark the “Russian Amazon Keyboard“ as a default. In opposite to third party keyboards native amazon keyboard is not overlaid by navigational panel in landscape orientation. The obvious minus- there is no prediction dictionary for Russian.

Well, I will try SKP tomorrow. Also, about #3 (permission change) - I noticed that Touchpal apk I copied into system/apps has rw-rw-rw. Should I remove writing permissions "group" and "other" or I can leave them as they are?
Sure, you have to remove write for other two groups, this is the point. Try it with your keyboard. it may help.

So now restart your device, and install keyboard One more time. It should work now. I had the same problems with swype keyboard.

Finally, I was able to get it working. It looks like it did not install properly first time - that's why 'lib' folder was empty. After I re-installed Touchpal I've got several files there. I copied them into /system/lib and after reboot I was able to switch to Touchpal keyboard with Nook Tools.
After that I realized that to be able to switch to Russian Touchpal needs to download Russian language pack and it always fails to do it from it's settings page. However, when I manually downloaded it from CooTek site and installed I've got Russian keyboard working!
The only question I have left is about keyboard itself. When I switch to landscape mode by rotating my Kindle the keyboard correctly changes its location staying on the bottom of screen, But, it does not extend it's width keeping it exactly same as in portrait mode.Is it normal or there is a setting somewhere I'm missing?
Anyway, thanks everyone for your help.
That is definitely not normal.

This is how all keyboards work on our KFHD, except stock Amazon keyboard. I think those keyboards doesn't support 'hidding' navigation bar and use all screen width to display the keyboard. As i understand, keyboards from market should be updated to work properly. I don't know any device, where navigation bar is popping up and then hide...
Still stock Amazon's keyboard is the best. Is it possible to modify keyboard apk to add language change button? How hard is it? I am sure that this kind of modified Amazon's keyboard would be very helpfull for all not US users... Just if somebody know the thread where we can ask for such modification, point me please!

About samsung stock keyboard

Hi everyone! It's good to be back. I just switched from an iPhone 6 to a Galaxy S6 (G920F) few days ago but I am not new with rooting and other things in android. I just have some questions and I need help.
1. How can I make the stock samsung keyboard to always show uppercase keys (like the one in the iPhone). I do not like using 3rd party keyboards. I want the stock samsung keyboard to NOT display lowercase keys. I WANT IT TO PERMANENTLY DISPLAY UPPERCASE KEYS.
2. How can I remove the number row on the top of the stock samsung keyboard? Like the one in the S3 that does not have a number row at the top. I prefer not having the number row.
Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
So you want an iPhone keyboard : | . Just install ai.type keyboard and an ios 7/8 theme for ai.type . then personalize the keyboard and there you have it
I want to keep the stock keyboard.. i just want to remove the number row in it. And also disable the keys from displaying lowercase keys.

i dont think it is possible, maybe another keyboard is the only way
You cant do those things trough the stock keyboard configuration. Get used to it or try a different keyboard.
Not possible bro .. At least from what i know ...
You came from the iPhone huh? I can tell lol. Try experimenting with new stuff! There's a ton of better options vs the Samsung keyboard. Google Keyboard is my personal favorite. If you know how, you can make that thing look like any keyboard you want lol.
