Sprint ehrpd network type - Moto X Q&A

So I have a Sprint Moto X that is stuck in cdma-ehrpd mode. Because of this I can't connect to LTE.
I've exhausted all of my attempts at fixing this including factory resets, APN editing and flashing SBF files using RSD and manually flashing.
I'm just wondering if any other Sprint users or Moto X users have ever experienced this or know what can be done to get my LTE back before sending it to Sprint to get fixed.
I am rooted and using Xposed (only for Gravity Box). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the same issue on Verizon Network, any expert could help us?

I'm going to bump this just because I'm still stuck with no 4g and Sprint is no help.

*#*#4636#*#* won't let you select LTE? Do you never get LTE / 4G or do you just lose it alot?

I haven't gotten 4g for a few months. The problem is that any fix that involves the hidden menus requires me to have my msl number which Sprint would not release.
Anyone know of any method that works to get an msl number of the moto x?
I also noticed that my APN is different than my wife's. This wouldn't be a problem but I can't seem to edit or add my own APN and have them stay.

There is a apk called like My MSL or something to that effect, and it will give you your MSL code immediately, no calling Sprint or anything, but I'm pretty sure its not freeware, so Google will help. If I remember what website I found it through (there are numerous sources lately I believe), I will try to point you in the right direction. I try to keep my phone from ever falling back on to 3G, and without the code I'd be very frustrated, lol.

That would be cool. I'm going to do a little googling for it right now.
Edit: like every other msl finding app in the playstore Get My Msl doesn't work for the moto x running 4.4.4.

I went and dug the apk out of my Google drive, and I apologize for mis-labeling it in my previous post, but it is actually called "MSL Utility", the apk is "MSL Utility_1.0.apk". So, with that being said, I believe that I probably downloaded it off 4shared or GSM Arena or some similar site that disregards software license rules etc.

Running on Virgin Mobile - Sprint Activation Problems

Hey Guys,
I'm really liking my first Android phone, but am having a heck of time working out the kinks. Phone calls and text work. Here's a list and if anyone can help out with any of them, I'd really appreciate it.
1. The phone constantly tries to do Sprint Auto-Activation. I *believe* this is causing the GUI to crash constantly...I've tried three ROMs and none run very stable. Is there a way to disable that pesky auto-activate?
2. I need data settings for Virgin or Boost. Coming from an iPhone, I don't see a setting for an APN anywhere. I think I have the settings, but I'm not sure I'm putting them in the right place.
3. Is there a special ROM I should install since I'm not on Sprint? I'm surprised there aren't more Verizon ROMs around.
Please help with any suggestions.
Realized this should probably be in the "General" instead....

So your on virginmobile but with a cdma hero? Awesome to get to the apn settings just hold the green call button down till you get the voice dial or just do it from your menu. When it comes up say, "open apns". It will take you to the apns. Are you rooted? Also to get the phone to stop doing that pesky
Thanks for the help. I'm working on the APN stuff now. I think your last post got cut short. I'd really like to know how to disable to auto-activate crap. I'm also getting invalid username/password, but I'm sure thats just becuase its trying to log into Sprint.
So u can use sprint phones on virgin mobile? please how do u do this..that 25 buck plan looks to good to pass up.. How would i say use my hero on virgin mobile..
I'm only able to place calls and text. NO DATA which is driving me nuts. I need the APN/Data settings for VM, but no one seems to have them.
And my phone keeps trying to do Sprint auto-activation, which is also driving me nuts. And I keep getting GUI crashes no matter which ROM I use. So far the process has been anything but smooth.
Does anyone have ideas on disabling Sprint auto-activation? Thanks!

I knows this isn't much help but do a search for cricket. I saw a way earlier just gotta find it cuz i'm not doing anything i'll look to ..... try this enter ##data# then hit edit enter your msl then turn off vocoder. Also hit menu then commit changes
I'm pretty sure I seen an APK in the phone somewhere that was related to the over the air activation stuff... might wanna look for it.
I could be wrong, that may be for the Moment, but that's Android on Sprint too so I dont see why the Sprint Hero would be different.
I too am really interested in putting my Hero on Virgin Mobile US. Has anyone figured out the data settings for wap/apn and whatever else is needed? If not, if one were to purchase a cheap virgin phone, say a jax, could the information be taken from there?
Also, would it be necessary to use a non-sprint ROM since virgin mobile runs on the Sprint network???? Thanks for any help.
Ok, I tried the BitterSweet and the nags went away and everything is running smooth on my Hero...I'm really liking it. Just no DATA. I'm still waiting on settings from someone. I tried VM tech support and they didn't even know what an APN was...seriously.
Yes, you can buy a cheap $10 Virgin Mobile phone and use those "settings" for the Hero. That's all I'll say about that.

Lol, not asking about that one setting. I already knew that part, I mean if someone were to buy a cheap phone would they be able to get all the settings, apn/wap and so on from it. If so, which phone, and what else would be needed?

can program your apns in by holding down the green call button and saying "open apns" also try pushing ##data# and you'll get a menu with data and mms stuff. Another note I've been doing some research to avoid the overpriced $75 dollars to get the phone flashed to metropcs and (two things) one they say they've rooted the hero. Two they say that for a normal flash all they do is change the prl.
I've accessed the ##DATA# and APN menus, but I have no idea what to change them to. I've also looked into PRLs but I can't seem to find one for Virgin. I know they just use the Sprint network so wouldn't the PRL be the same?
If anyone is really interested in using the Hero on Virgin, Boost, or Cricket PM me. I searched the internet for hours finding all the info and I don't mind helping someone else out. The more people we get working on this, the more likely we are to figure these settings out.

**** I'm trying to get it to work on metro. My main thing right now is to stop it from doing the hands free activation. I know we have slightly separate goals but that is something we could work on together. What you really need is for the op of this thread to send you his prl.
I got rid of the Sprint Auto-Activation by installing BitterSweets ROM. It's working great so far.

Just realized you were the op can you upload your prl for others? A full nandroid would be awesome
The PRL I'm using is the standard one that comes with the Hero. I haven't changed it. I can upload it, but it should be one everyone has by default on Sprint. I forget the version...

Sprint doesn't have 3G where I live, so I found a work around. You will need a stock htc dialer. Press ##775# and you will need to enter your MSL which you can get from Sprint (Edit: Or you can download msl reader from market). I don't remember the exact options in the menu, but it's not difficult to sort through. There are several PRLs you can use from Verison, but some will show your data as roaming. I use this one:
http://www.the-answerman.com/sidlist/prl/40060.prl
I've had it for three months now, and no data roaming. I get great reception (even in elevators) and voices come through clear.
Edit: This is under the assumption you have Sprint service.
When I upgraded to the Evo in December, and I would use this, it would show on the bill as data roaming.

[Q] Recently got a Moto X some weird issues with data network

I just got a Moto X and popped in my straight talk sim card and setup the APN correctly and everything was working great.
Randomly I get an issue usually once or twice a day where my browser will stop transfering data. I tried google play and nothing would load there either. I tried speed test app and it measures roughly 5 Mbits. After speed test I go back and it still doesn't work.
So far the only way to fix the issue has been to reboot my phone and then all works fine again and then the same occurs after some time...
Any ideas at all having difficulty finding posts similar to this
Thanks!

If there is another APN besides the Straight Talk APN, delete it. Often times, the phone will have a default APN and Straight Talk suggests you delete any additional ones.
Good Luck

Ah that could possibly be it when I added the straight talk APN to my phone there were like 2 others there but for some reason there was no option to delete them so I just left them. I'll try to see if there is a way to remove them...

I don't have a GSM Moto X, but I just set up 2 new GSM Moto Es (Unbranded, not rooted). I was able to add the ST APN first, then simply click the '3 dots' in the upper right corner of the APN list, and delete the default APN.
Do you have a carrier-branded device? Perhaps this makes a difference.

I don't think I have a carrier branded device I bought the unlocked GSM Moto X directly from the moto maker from motorola.
I was able to remove the other listed APNs it was as you said when i first tried it was before I added the ST apn and never checked again after i added it. The only thing on the list now is the ST settings however the issue still occurs that randomly I'll go to surf the web over data and nothing will load until I reboot.
I had read on some sites that ST changed their APN settings and using the old ones work better but they were all dated back in 2013 so I'm not sure how relevant that actually is.
I had a few similar issues while still fresh out the box but once rooted and flashed cm11 issues disappeared, have no idea whether it was related but hope it helps

Unlocking Sprint G Flex to Cricket/AIO/ATT Wireless

This tutorial is my method for successfully unlocking the G flex to Cricket/AIO/ATT wireless with data/MMS, No battery drain, no Wifi calling drain.
1. Pros. Use Cricket/AIO/ATT sim.
2. Cons. Must dial International code +1 ( or whatever country code you're in) before every 10 digit number.
********Before we start you need to be on stock 4.4.2 sprint rom with Network Mode LTE/CDMA enabled************
(The roaming option does not appear when on GSM)
Next, change theme from "FLEX" to "LG". For some reason FLEX bugs out after the phone unlocks and causes crashes. (May be an isolated incident)
*Now we need to add the APN from AIO wireless into the Apn list by going into settings>roaming>Access point names
*The APN list will be blank and state "NO APNS" this is normal. Hit the menu button and add the AIO wireless APN settings from
http://buzzmobile.us/aio-wireless-apn-settings-internet-mms/
When completed you will need to press the back button and once again you will be greeted with a blank APN screen. Don't worry it's there.
Follow the instructions for root + unlocking the phone here. Total commander doesn't work on 4.4.2, don't use it, do it all with Root Browser (Get from Play Store).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50477852
After you are finished you should be rooted, successfully finished removing bloatware and left with a half unlocked phone.
Now navigate to settings/tethering and networks/mobile networks/Network Mode and change to GSM/WCDMA
**********************You are finished with this portion of the Tutorial***********************
*Fun Part*
1. Download Rom toolbox on your phone, the free/lite version is fine.
2. Navigate to build.prop editor
3. Find and change the settings listed..
ro.carrier=spr (spr to lowercase)
ro.build.target_operator=spr (spr to lowercase)
persist.service.crash.enable=1
Lets keep something in mind here... Once you change these settings you will need to restart your phone and you will be unlocked for Cricket/AIO/ATT networks, however, at this time you should know that if you venture back into network mode and happen to change your settings back to LTE/CDMA, you will lose the ability to change your network mode back to GSM UNLESS you revert the build.prop changes listed above. You can actively switch from LTE/CDMA and GSM by this method although I don't see why anyone would..
At this point you should have Talk/Text/Data/MMS...If not, you may have done something wrong.
**More funner part***
At this point in the tutorial your phone is doing two things.
1. It lies when it says its only on GSM/WCDMA
2. Rapidly draining the S#$% out of your battery.
We need the MSL Code so we may dial ##DATA# in your phone and access LTE settings.
Follow this Tutorial for retrieving your MSL code.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47324060
After you obtain the MSL pull up the phone application and dial ##DATA#(3282) Navigate into LTE and disable LTE/Band 26/Band 41
When you back out of the menu your phone will restart and stop continuously looking for LTE Radio.
**Final touches**
Remove all and I mean ALL sprint and preloaded wifi calling applications if you experience wifi calling battery draining. For some reason wifi calling spazzes out.
I'm not going to list the apk's because it may be an isolated incident and if you find out wifi calling is draining your battery just long press it in battery stats and go to "APP INFO" and find out what it is named and remove it with root browser...
I have been on Cricket/AIO wireless for two weeks now with HSPA+ and enjoying it.
This method may work with other carriers who knows.
**Food for thought**
1. When I change the ro.carrier settings from lowercase spr to ndo like in the APN i got a cool h+ instead of GSM.
2. I have not been able to wifi tether yet with cricket and I'm actively looking for a way now..
3. Think anyone else has issues with the FLEX theme crashing?
thanks.

If you don't mind how much do you pay? Will this work with a T-Mobile Flex? I'm pretty happy with T-Mobile since I got my discount back. I have 4 lines so it's around 25 bucks in savings a month.

It should work with t-mobile, i don't see why not, instead of ATT/AIO apn's just add a Tmobile apn and make sure that you have some time to play with the build.prop settings for example...
ro.carrier = spr can be changed to ndo and still work because "in theory" it matches the APN.
After adding the tmobile apn setting, changing ro.carrier to " t-mobile" to match the apn might work .
Try it out and see!
p.s i would leave ro.build.target_operator=spr alone, if all else fails you can change this too.
Thanks for the guide . I picked up a sprint g flex and lg g2 cheap, used your guide on both. Enjoying them on NET10 in the states.
patiently waiting for a custom recovery for kitkat on the flex.
interesting thread. i keep running into an issue though. as soon as i reboot after changing the stuff it reverts to where i was before and nothing saved. any suggestions? root is fine...
awesome stuff here i really want to see this happen on my flex!
Wont allow apn change
so i got stuck with a simple issue. when i go into the apn list there is an apn there already.
cinet.spcs
and when i press the menu key it is not showing the add feature to be able to add the new apn as described in the thread.
after doing these I noticed when opening Wifi it force closes and says "Unfortunantley, Settings has stopped"
only wifi that works is the one i used before doing these mods wont allow adding others
also have tried various wifi repair apps
working for me but getting tons of systemui crashes
Concerning the errors that appear often but I came out I did this : I returned and change in the build prop, spr for SPR capitalized and not returned to me the problem also remove the option to persist crash : 0 , take into GSM mode UMTS network selection mobile. I'm in version 4.4
Not working for me.
I tried this 3 times. Once with stock 4.4.2. Once downgraded to 4.2.2 and another time after updating back to 4.4.2 from OTA. All failed. Could not get any sim to be recognized. I am a smart guy and have done much more complicated methods of flashing, rooting, etc. for Android phones. But this just does not work. The phone states no SIM when I put my Cricket SIM in it. But when I put the Sprint SIM back, it reads it.
Any help would be GREATLY accepted. Thank you.
PS: I called Sprint because this is a clean phone. When I asked for the unlock code they gave me the MSL. I have a feeling that is incorrect but I could be wrong. After an hour on the phone, they said that is the unlock code. No matter how much I tried to tell them it's not.

Maybe this is a better guide for you:
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-sim-unlock-sprint-lg-g2-ls980/
The Sim unlock does work, I've been using my sprint g flex on cricket for 6 months or so , but only with H+ .
You don't really need the msl or have the phone in good standing (blacklisted is OK).
If the Sim isn't being recognized that means you didn't do the folder replacement right. I had trouble at this part, which was solved by using the app "ROM toolbox". It took a few tries.
As far as changing the APN , just use any shortcut app on the playstore.
For switching bands, use the app " network" from the playstore. No msl needed.

Did you use the files from my link? Flex specific?
Don't use total commander.
What software version are you on?
Even after the FC, does it recognize your Sim?
You must also change the build prop, just realize the guide doesn't have that. Probably why your getting FCs.
Save a copy before making changes:
ro.carrier=spr
ro.build.target_operator=spr
persist.service.crash.enable=1

Sorry for getting back to you so late. Life is busy with three kids and a full time job.
I wipped and followed the instructions again. VERY closely. It worked. Thank you very much.

Sweet. Glad you got it.
The only trouble I have had with this method is if the phone shuts off or I restart, I have to switch the bands back to GSM.
would this work on LS995ZVB? thanks.

Activating VoLTE after verizon CDMA shutdown?

Not sure how much help there is for such an old phone but I have a Note 5 (SM-N920V) that I use with Pageplus. I had check and been told by numerous reps and websites that the phone would be fine to use and handled VoLTE. When Verizon shut the towers a few days ago my text and calls went down too. I still have data but that's it. According to Pageplus, they are aware of the issue but have no ETA (keep getting told 24 hours and that was 5 days ago) According to other techs there's a firmware issue but I can't seem to figure out what is needed to fix this. It seems like the phone is capable of VoLTE but it isn't activated and there isn't anywhere to do so. I found someone who was flashing Note 8s with the same issue but they only handle 8 and up so I'm hoping maybe someone here can help. Thanks in advance!
In settings under network configuration.
While this phone supports 4G VoLTE it may not be whitelisted by Verizon. Their side needs to be configured to accept it.

Thank you for getting back to me. How would that be handled? I can't do anything on my end as nothing is there or greyed out. Pageplus tech support is useless and there's no way to get Verizon on the line when you don't have an account with them so I'm not sure how to proceed. I can't afford to replace the phone at this time which is why I'm trying to find a way to get this to work.

I don't know. I have AT&T, they list their white listed devices. Couldn't find Verizon's whitelist.
Sim card may need to be updated and phone's hidden settings reconfigured.
