Goodbye Nexus 5!! Google takes Nexus 5 off the new "Google Store" - Nexus 5 General

Google announced the new Google store but the listing of Nexus 5 is gone .
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2015/03/meet-updated-chromebook-pixel-and-new.html
Clicking phones on https://store.google.com/ take you to the Nexus 6 listing https://store.google.com/product/nexus_6
The Nexus 5 has no place on the new site. This was speculated a while ago but just the feeling of it being off the store is awful.
I love the Nexus 5 with its quirks, endless issues and powerful specs at the price we never imagined.

Yep, not available for sale anymore https://store.google.com/product/nexus_5

I really do hope they replace it with another 5" device.
I'd love for there to always be both a "normal" phone and a phablet in the Nexus line.
Especially since I have no desire for a phablet, and I've only ever purchased nexus devices. I managed to skip the Nexus 6, but my N5 definitely won't last another year after.

I think it was taken off sale on purpose to push nexus 6 sales, me personally id rather have the 5. The 6 is nice but i know from nexus devices they are usually cheap and good for performance with a few corners cut, I couldn't buy the 6 for its price knowing there is better phones out there at a cheaper price

Loved my Nexus 5. Loved it. Slightly bigger screen (5'2"), bigger battery, it would have been perfect.
I sold it for the Moto Maxx (same specs as Nexus 6, also made by Motorola but 5.2" and 3900 mAh battery) but I still have fond memories. And my wife loves her Nexus 5.
For the specs it had and the price, it was fantastic.

yup , its gone from indian play store too ..

We will see it return.. Stronger and faster than it was before..
Cue Six Million Dollar Man theme music.

who knows? maybe there will be Nexus 5 2015 edition hihihi :fingers-crossed:

The Nexus 5 will still be for sale new on Ebay and Amazon among others. It's not going anywhere for a while. You can even still buy a new Nexus One if you wanted. Just because the play store has stopped selling it means nothing.

There will be.

I hope so. 5.5" screen, 4gb ram, and whatever fast 64bit cpu would work for me.

Everyone has their own opinions....its mine...."discontinued" feels bit low..

I seriously hope they continue with the 5 inch Nexus series. Nexus has the best development community by far. We get all the new roms and features way before other phones.
I fear developers will jump ship to another brand if the only available Nexus is a 6 inch...

Technically discontinued is right. But I'd assume since the Nexus 5 is better or probably on par with most flagships nearly this long after it's 2013 release, people consider it as like a limited edition phone.. I'm on the fence. While I also feel that technically it is discontinued, I also feel like the value of the Nexus 5 may slightly increase because it's still a great phone for development and it's going to be harder to find, and the Nexus 5 IMHO was probably the best Nexus phone released to date, the Nexus 6 is a phablet and honestly don't know much about it's successor based on it's size I immediately figured it would be the wrong phone for me, plus I've heard the Nexus 6 had it's share of problems like any phone. Nexus 5 had their initial batches which were flawed in design somewhat and they updated the form factor for it.
(very proud to say I have a 32GB launch edition white Nexus 5 btw)

Moto X has me worried for Nexus 5

It seems Google has been so on point with nexus 4 and new nexus 7 plus all the updated apps I truly don't understand the point of the moto x. I mean at 200 on contract why would anyone buy this phone. Even though Google doesn't make the nexus why compete against yourself.
I have a feeling the nexus phone might either go away or not even be anything major this year. Its almost November what new processor would go in it. I am thinking this year the nexus 5 will be made by HTC and cost a lot more.
For some reason I like the material for the new nexus 7 and would like that as the back of the next nexus.

I mean, are they serious? Do they really think this is in the same league as the Galaxy S4 or iPhone 5 available at the same price?
I'm worried about a Nexus 5 now too. Cannibalize sales with a Nexus device or price the next Nexus way higher. Only the former is appealing to me and I'm sure it's not to Google.
I think the moto x is going to be a Microsoft kin type of failure. Is there some hidden features I am missing? HTC one, s4, new iPhone and even the nexus 4 are all better and same price. Why release all these versions like who cares for a dev edition x. I was thinking this phone would be free on contract and that would be the selling point.
Highly doubt a new nexus happening this year. I see Google just making the dev phones now.

LG said no.
Nexus 5 will be made by LG and so the Moto X does not have any bearing on it, or the Nexus program until such time that Motorola becomes a Nexus manufacturer.
This is just Moto still sucking. Not as terrible as before, but still bad.
Google needs to just take full reins of Motorola and turn them into a pure hardware arm of Google and not try to please everyone and end up pleasing no one.

Also Moto X is only going to be released in the US as far as I read, which makes sense as its made in the US and customization from other countries will take time and effort.

Oh, I see. I don't see why they won't make their phones through Motorola since they own them. Better than paying Microsoft for phones that profit other companies.
I think Nexus 5 is the last project of the Nexus. Then Google completely focused on Motorola phones.

Since the Nexus 4 is rather faulty imo (both H/W rev. 10 & rev. 11) - bad battery performance, getting abnormally warm during normal use (hate it), poor software optimization etc, I doubt that Google will keep rolling the nexus project along with LG. Samsung were fine partners.

Not quite sure what you are talking about. If you are facing all those problems, try using stock everything and see if the problem persists. There are 6 Nexus 4s among my family and friends and we dont face any bad battery performance, any stutters or anything. We are all on stock.

You never had a HTC One X? This gets way hotter than the Nexus 4.
Plus Nexus 4 back is made of glass, which is the reason you feel the heat more. All other phone such as HTC One and Samsung S4 has the same problem. This is due to the Snapdragon chip, not because of LG.
why not in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021559]
After owning a HTC One and moving to the Galaxy S4, I went back to the beautiful White Nexus 4. The feel in the hand of the nexus 4 is superior to any phone I have owned even though it has some lower specs
not worried here, Moto X is aimed to completely different kind of users, Nexus is aimed more for developers and Android Fans, Moto X has a locked bootloader and will be distributed via carriers. I think that the challenge is for Samsung or HTC which sells devices in similar conditions (not to mention apple). I Also think it depends of the kind of user you are.

Completely agree. Although i own both HTC One and Nexus 4, i find myself using my Nexus 4 more than my HTC One.And if Google was to make it their last project, they may as well go out with a bang! I'm talking Sony Xperia Z water proof body, Nokia's 41MP with 6 or 7 (i dont know how many they have now lol) elements camera lens, and full AOSP OS = my dream phone.
Behold The Google Nexus Lumia Z....is what i'm thinking lol.

Everyone something new comes out everyone starts complaining. So what that the moto x is running near stock with some cool features. So what that battery life is supposedly improved. So what that the camera is far superior. So what that Motorolas radios are usually really good. So what that benchmarks are on par with stock Nexus 4. So what that there will be a 32 GB Model. All the things that everyone complains about with the Nexus 4 is improved upon with the moto x. I love my Nexus 4. But I'm really tempted to get the developer addition depending on the cost. My concern is that asop based roms will not have all the features working since I'm sure all the teams are closed source

Honestly? This year's pretty tricky. I know I'm going to upgrade relatively soon, but I'm looking at the new iPhone fairly seriously (especially with the rumored 4.7" screen) for the first time since I left iOS in 2010. The rumored iPhone 6 is currently slightly behind the rumored Moto X+1, with the rumored Nexus 6 sitting in third. Obviously this could all change with actual information, but for now I just don't know.
I love the unlocked bootloader/root and everything that comes with it, but I'm also tired of the ****ty battery and the mediocre camera. The Nexus 5, though obviously better than the 4, again seemed relatively mediocre compared to its competition with regards to both. I'm afraid the same will be true with the Nexus 6, though obviously I'm hopeful that it doesn't fall into the same trap that every Nexus device does.

well for the price of an iPhone you get:
1 nexus 5 = 2 year lifetime
1 nexus 5 = 2 year lifetime
1 nexus 6 = 2 year lifetime
versus
1 iPhone 6 = 2 year lifetime
If you're comparing iPhones with cheap androids (nexus or moto line) then it's not fair. You have to compare to equally budgeted devices like HTC One M7/M8, Samsung Galaxy S6?, LG's new superstar etc...
They will have comparable cameras and better screens

I bought the GSM Galaxy Nexus for $650 (maybe ~$100 less than the iPhone in Canada) and didn't get a good camera and battery. I'm not really using price as a consideration because it's not really irrelevant to my needs (though obviously a consideration for a lot of people). On Android, I want a good camera and battery, regardless of price, along with an unlocked bootloader, easy root, stock Android, and quick updates. The whole reason I skipped the Nexus 5 was because it didn't deliver that.
Galaxy S5, HTC One, etc. don't deliver that. The developer editions do, but again they have tradeoffs compared to the official ones (picture quality being the biggest concern, battery life also worse based on reports). If Android Silver can deliver that, I'm also interested. I'm just explaining why I'm looking at the iPhone and have no interest in convincing anybody else to...so there's that
Edit: Quick question, but where did you get the 2-year lifetime warranty for the Nexus 5? The Nexus 4 only has a 1-year warranty...I know because mine ran out and I was looking to get the audio jack replaced.
Let's wait until there's an official announcement before we discuss this

Nexus 5 set to continue?

Google have updated their mobile N5 page today.

Dig the new wallpaper BTW.

Yeah, a little surprised.
But the page has been updated to tout Lollipop.
Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 gone, but Nexus 5 still there.
I think they will release a phone in that size range be it Nexus 6 mini or Nexus 5 2014/15 or perhaps a new name.
Which is why they continue to support Nexus 5. Kind of like what Samsung does with the 's' and 'note' series.
Is the Nexus 7 still being sold?
---------- Post added at 11:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 PM ----------
Nexus 7 is officially EOL so my guess is N5 is here to stay for a while
Nexus 5 looks sexy on that page. Can't wait for mine to look similar
I think they will keep selling the Nexus 5 for quite some time. Signs are all there. The updated page. The updated screenshots with Lollipop, etc.
The Nexus 6 is nice, but it is WAY too big and WAY too expensive for a lot of the people that bought the Nexus 5.
To me, the real interesting question to consider is what will they do next year?
Will it be Motorola again? And will it be yet another 6" size phone? What will happen to 5"? Will the current LG Nexus 5 be the last of its kind?
Will there be a 2015 Nexus 6 by Motorola (since they usually get two opportunities) and another OEM making a 2015 Nexus 5 (please someone say Sony)?
I hate to jump the gun, but it's something interesting to ponder.
Let oppo make a nexus phone it'll be the best.

In my understandings, Google will keep selling nexus 5 as a smaller variant, because lets face it, a lot of people dont want phablet and they know it. Also price is little high (now its top end hardware there, no cut offs like on nexus 5 so thats normal). But how long they will keep selling n5, i dont know, but i would dare to say until next october.

What do you mean usually? Six phones (counting the upcoming) and five tablets (counting the upcoming and the Transformer Prime) is hardly a relevant sample size.
I still think an Apple made (but spec'd internals like an Android flagship) 5in screen Nexus would be amasing.
On the N5 page it says: "5 Made for what matters". This is exactly perfect. The N5's specs are still good and will continue to be "enough" for a while. A phone that just "works".
With this move, Google effectively covered 2 market segments.

Yeah. I don't feel like I need to upgrade to Nexus 6 and I'm happy with that.
But, I still think they shouldn't make 6" Nexus. Instead, they should make an upgrade version of Nexus 7...
Would make perfect sense to keep the nexus 5 available because the snapdragon 800 is easy good enough I wouldn't upgrade to a phone with say a snapdragon 801 my nexus 5 flies compared to my wife's g3 and that's no slouch also I heard the snapdragon 805 is just another incremental upgrade from the 801.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
To me Google made the best possible move this year, also with minimal effort. They already had the iPhone6 counterpart on the market with the Nexus 5, at pretty much half the price or less, so now they also have the 6+ counterpart, also for a much lesser price (still not cheap, but way cheaper). They effectively covered all size ranges right now, with both smartphones and tablets. Sure the N7 may have needed a small bump in specs, but for what it is, a cheap entry level mini tablet, it's more than enough for the kind of consumer looking for something in that range.
aye, I'm buying a 32g black updated one, just as a back up..
I'm not going anywhere from the nexus 5..
I got my phone last month and I'm perfectly happy with it and don't really want the nexus 6. So yeah, they should keep selling the nexus 5 along with the 6 and maybe refresh it next year as a nexus 5 2015 model.

Yes. The Nexus 4 was my first Android phone. I bought one sight unseen and loved it. I ordered a 5 the day it went on sale. For the first time in two years I'm not sure I'll buy the new model. Even ignoring the higher price, I don't know if I want a phone that big. Fortunately the Nexus 5 remains a powerful phone and I can see it carrying me through another year to see if Google rolls out something a bit smaller for 2015.
I'm so happy hearing such good news, because when other manufacturers discontinue support for their products after 18 months Google decided to keep supporting Nexus 5,even beside that it's almost 1 year old now.
That's why now I'm feeling even happier owning such a wonderful device. And really proud of Google's decision.
WELL DONE GOOGLE!
Maybe next year there will be a 5.2" 64bit version of the Nexus 5. After seeing the price of the N6, I decided to buy the N5. (again)
I wish Google wasn't being so quiet regarding their inventory. Was going to get a 16gig model for my wife and was hoping for a price drop. While the price drop seems unlikely now I would at least like to know when more will be coming in.
Anybody notice the Yellow Nexus 5 in the background of the pictures for the Nexus 9 keyboard case??

Why do you want a nexus 6?

What is your reason for wanting a nexus 6? My reason is I want a device that delivers the full experience. I dont want to carry around more devices than i need to. I believe the nexus 6 can be my everything device for mobile. I wanted this after using a oneplus one for a little while. I really liked the big 5.5 inch screen and started to use my iPad less and less after getting it. All i keep thinking was if this was a little bigger and the resolution was a little bigger to match, it would be perfect. Well here came the nexus 6 with a 5.96 inch 1440p screen. I have a nexus 4 and have been loving it except the battery and the camera. So far from the hands on people are saying the camera and battery are better. Also the reception should be better than the oneplus on At&t. The nexus 6 looks big i hear it feels good in your hand and it is a beast with performance. After hearing this I immediately sold my iPad and my oneplus one. I am ready to carry around one device for all my mobile needs. I have big hands so i welcome the size.
What about you?
Android L which in turn means fast updates
Premium Nexus device (internal specs, big screen, front facing speakers, build quality, etc)
I need a good smartphone (currently using a temporary budget phone)
I think it's (one of) the best phones available
I want one for the Chip, native lollypop, size and cause I love my Nexus 5 experience so much that I run GPE on my HTC ONE M8 at&t model .oh and cause I just have to have multiple devices to keep me busy
AT&T HTC ONE M8
My last 11 phones have been Samsungs. I'm looking forward to zero lag.
My Nexus 4 has been showing its age lately in the battery department. I would be lucky to get 3 Hours SOT with the crazy battery. Plus if I reboot the phone in the middle of use my battery goes from 90% to 70% which drives me crazy.
While I know the N6 will not be the end all solution to my Battery life issues, I believe its no better time to upgrade since I skipped over the N5 in favor of this. Plus I am not wholly confident that the Next Generation Nexus devices will be viable for me if they end up becoming the first generation consumer ARA hardware. Something I would preferably like to avoid a year with until they can hammer out issues and wait out until the second generation hardware releases (2016-2017 release).
If* I can get my hands on a nexus 6 then I want one because of how easy nexus devices are to root, unlock and modify. and also because the device looks beautiful and has the specs to drool over. And of course pure stock android.
I too am currently using a budget phone(Optimus F6 anyone? haha) and can't wait for an upgrade.
I'm so tired of being on the outside looking in to the N5 community. Great ROM options, first available updates, and great Devs. Plus who know when we will see another Nexus device compatible with crappy VZW.
I bought the Galaxy Note 2 at launch, then upgraded to the Note 3 at launch. I loved both devices because I go crazy for hardware specs. I've never used a Nexus device before, but on both of my Notes, I realized that I mostly use AOSP custom roms... maybe about 90% of the times (I usually switch up custom roms every month), there's maybe one of two TouchWiz roms that I liked, but all the other ones were always always AOSP (or AOKP, close enough). Now that Google has decided to join the spec race, I for one am VERY VERY happy that the Nexus 6 is so expansive. You Get What You Pay For!!
The Nexus 6 won me over the Note 4, the specs are so incredibly similar it's ridiculous!
So yeah, Nexus 6, I wantz for all the amazing custom roms that will be available on this type of device with such incredible power hosted inside! Can't wait!

Good luck this Wednesday. I got my preorder last week.
Its the motorola nexus that we all thought would never happen. like Rossi going to ducati. I lust hope the phone works better then the ducati. Oh and there is the fact that my g3 is a lag beast. I pick up my wifes g2 and remember what a phone should run like sadly .
Screen size, fast charging, front facing speakers, lollipop and the fact that I have Jump and wouldn't get my monies worth if I don't use it.
Paranoid Android, the end.
Because Nexus, that's why
Cuz I can.
My reason is simple: screen size! Otherwise, I would keep the Z3

sadly I am at work during the time they add stock(between 10 and 10:30) so i doubt i will get one tomorrow either.
After switching to the N5 from the iPhone 4, I liked the screen and eventually I realised I used it more than the tablet that I had and because of that a bigger phone would be the perfect one device for everything.

What's next for Nexus 5 users??

Hopefully i'm not alone on an island when I say that the Nexus 6 is just too large for me. If i wanted a phablet, there are other alternatives. Having said that i was just curious what the future of Nexus is going to be? I suppose it's way too early to know, but just wanted to put my mind at ease because ever since the latest release, I'm really at a loss as to what my next phone purchase will be?
We now have the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10? Will they refresh the current screen sizes with newer hardware? I really hope so cause screen size is the biggest factor now for me in terms of buying a nexus. If the nexus 4 had a refresh, i would have totally gone with that. Thoughts anyone?

If you're looking for your next phone, I HIGHLY recommend the new Moto X. Gorgeous and powerful hardware, stock Android with a few actually useful and innovative additions, and it's sold for a great price. I have both the N5 and Moto X and the X is an upgrade in every way, and IMO is the spiritual successor to the N5.
After not being able to get N6 64gb the last 3 weeks & playing with one at a tmobile store, I've decided its too big! My Nexus5 is still rocken for now. I'll be watching S810 device's announcements at CES Jan. 5, 2015. Maybe a Sony Xperia Z4/Z4 Ultra, M9 or other newly branded devices. Thin frame, stereo front speakers, 5.5 to 5.7 screen, unlockable, etc are my preferences...

Nah. Last year, I wanted at least a 5" 1080p display. Nexus 5 was close enough.
Agreed the NEXUS 6 is too large. Not the display, the entire phone. Anything larger than the LG G3 is too big for a phone, for me.
This year I wanted at least 5.2" 1440p (preferably the size of the LG G2) with Snapdragon 805. As late as mid-August Google was testing a 5.2" 1440p with Snapdragon 805 to be the NEXUS 6. But instead they they stupidly went with the monstrosity, and let Motorola release the 5.2" version as the Moto Maxx/Droid Turbo.
So in getting the Moto Maxx in spite of the silly capacitive buttons.
I'll have to check out the Motorola phones then, but the goal really for me is something smaller than 5 inches, but a "nexus" device for the fast updates.
Yea I'm in the same boat. The N6 is insanely big especially for my hands and there's really nothing that stands out about it besides fast updates. Now that it's nearly twice as much its put itself in a completely new category against the note 4 which literally destroys it in every way besides the front speakers and updates (I also prefer no buttons but since the galaxy phone home buttons are now fingerprint scanners it doesn't seem as bad) and I don't ever use the speaker in the phone besides occasionally showing a friend a YouTube vid or notifications. I'm between a note 4 and just keeping my n5 until s810s start popping up.
all the reviews for the Moto X (2014) cite a mediocre battery life and hit or miss camera results. Those are literally the two things holding back the N5.
Exactly. The Moto X could have been the top phone on the market but they failed on battery and cam. So I'm leaning toward the Droid Turbo, but I'm still not sold on it. The size is tolerable (N5 seems just right. N6 is ridiculous) and battery isn't as good as they claim but still far better than N5. Camera, I'm not sure. Mixed reviews I think.
Is the moto x even an upgrade in any area? The software seems to be what people like. The hardware is basically the same in every day use as a nexus 5 isn't it?
Nexus 6 is too big for hands, that's for sure. No way you're going to one-hand that with a cup of coffee in the other and still slide your metrocard to get on the subway. And forget about getting that thing into your pocket.
Why did they ruin our Nexus? And why are they charging twice as much? I'm actually very sad about all of this. Now I'm stuck with deciding between the Moto X and the Droid Turbo. Sucks.
You know what? I'm just gonna keep my Nexus 5. This phone rocks. Google just sent me a free refurb replacement, and with Lollipop, it feels like I have a brand new phone.
Nexus 5 is still a great smartphone and still a superb buy, even this time next year it still be decent and rocking with whatever latest Android is by then, plus hopefully Google will see sense and go back to a 5" or 5.2" screen & give either HTC or Sony a bash at a Nexus Smartphone, or better still have 2 Nexus Smartphones Phablet and standard to keep everybody happy.
I was very very close to getting a moto x, but after flashing lollipop, my Nexus was like a brand new device and I decided I would stick with it for a bit.
Then I was lucky enough to get an invite for the oneplus the other day and it is expected to arrive this weekend. We will still if that is a worth successor without being too big.

For now, I'll keep using the Nexus 5, although I initially wanted to buy the Nexus 6.
Unfortunately, the significant price increase (Nex 6 costs about 300 EUR more than a Nex 5 in the German Play Store) forced me to do the decision not to buy it. I primarily need a good developer phone, and 650 EUR for the Nex 6 is just waaaay to much money.
Best Regards,
Benjamin
I'm holding out to see what Samsung and HTC do in the spring. GS6 and M9. Nothing from this year impresses me. Scratch that... Note 4 hardware is impressive, but TouchWiz still kills it, as always.
I'm waiting for project ara.… .

Probably gonna wait for the nexus release next year. Price is way too high for a nexus 6. I'm good with a 5.in fact I bought a used one about a month ago and it's still a very fantastic phone for its price. I'm kicking myself now for not buying it 1year earlier.
absolutely moto X
Z3c
LG G3 with cyanogenmod for the win phone has the right hardware, size, removable battery , now we just need the right ROM. Until then I'll stick to the N5.
I was wanting the Xperia Z3, but ****ing Sony and their DRM removal when you unlock the bootloader... the camera turns to **** and the modem/radio doesn't even work when you unlock the bootloader! I'm watching the Note 4.
