[Q] Thinking of selling my Turbo and getting an M8 - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

First of all, I love this phone. I love the battery life and the screen is gorgeous. I have the Ballistic Nylon Turbo with a few scratches and some fraying in the back. I'm deciding if I should sell my Turbo on Swappa for around $380-$400 and buy a brand new HTC One M8 for $340. I've always wanted the M8 because of its metal design and boomsound speakers but what worries me is the battery. I've heard the battery is not that great. What do you guys think? Should I go for it?

Well, I would prefer the M9 over the M8 but it will be too expensive for me and doesn't seem like much of an improvement.

Well you cant really compare the battery life of each of these, but with the m8 i got a solid 19 hours on the device with 4-5 hours SOT

i got a m8 launch day...used it until turbo came out. My wife now uses the M8. Just got 5.0 update last night so I don't know if that improved or hindered battery life, but I was noticing traveling with her this past weekend. She got FAR worse battery life than me. Had to plug in multiple times during day....Granted used navi etc. so some fairly heavy use, but I definitely wouldn't downgrade if I were you.
When i used to use the device before turbo, I would make it through the day with one charge and my usage, but barely. With Turbo I think I have run it all the way down 4-5 times since launch...

Yea, if i decide to get the M8, I'll miss the battery life the most. One of the reasons I want to get a different phone is because there is a scratch in the middle of my screen that isn't really visible most of the time but can be seen when using the phone outdoors or when a light shines on it. Also the ballistic nylon in the back is fraying quite a bit near the droid logo and i tried to cut and burn it off but i just made it worse. Little stuff like that bothers me. If I get the M8, I plan to also get a screen protector for it and a skin or case on at all times.

Haha yup I keep reading that it's slippery. I already got an eye on a few cases and skins. I was also considering the LG G3 but the back facing single speaker is a big deal breaker for me. Do you recommend any other phones besides the G3 and M8?

That's funny, I have the G3 and I'm looking to upgrade to the Turbo. I had one for a few days when it was released but returned it, and now I'm really missing the good battery life and better display.

Wireless charging solutions?

Has anyone seen any 3rd party solutions for this yet? Cases, etc?
I miss it to death, can't seem to forget how nice it was on the N5. Especially with the not-so-great battery life, would be really nice to be able to place it on a charging pad at work or home when not using it.
I'm considering switching to N6 just for this, even with the downside of not being able to fit it in my pants pocket... on that note btw, after playing with the N6 and Note4 at the store, the Moto X feels tiny in my hands now!!

One reviewer says that it works just fine with the X. You could probably also stick it behind the case back if you're willing to open it up.
Yep I ordered it yesterday. Will give it a try with a case this evening and post how well it works. Not sure I'm ready to take off the back just yet, ha.

Works quite well with the i-Blason case. I got that exact wireless charger insert, just fit it between case and the device. I also cut the top off the charger, otherwise it was sticking too far out into the "dimple" of the case.
I am not a big fan of cases and would like to eventually just stick this behind the back cover - anyone know if the back cover is tough to take off?
Anyone look into an internal mod yet? Anyone able to take the back off safely and put this inside?

New Zerolemon Battery case for M8

i bought one from a store in my country but not official one , but it's a lot better , it goes all the way to the back and has a kick stand for watching videos ( and it was relatively cheap about 20 $ ) and many better colour options with better material design

i fear it would make a big phone massive. and take away from the aesthetic a lot. although the juice would be nice

So how is this case? I've been looking around, and this is one of the better cases out there.
Its seriously too big for what it is. I saw the thickness and size and thought it would be at least 4000mah (knowing Zero Lemon) but having this really thick case for 2100mah is a really dumb idea. For 40 bucks you can get one of those portable chargers that offers twice as much power.

I wonder when the g4 will get their ZL battery
I haven't seen anything yet from Zerolemon. I was surprised that Mophie is straying from the iPhone and Galaxy and making a juice pack for the G4
http://www.mophie.com/shop/juice-pack-lg-g4
Considering this is a replaceable battery, I wouldn't be surprised if ZL releases an extended one.

I hope Zero Lemon is a battery replacement design instead of the recharge through the charge port design that Mophie seems to employ for the G4.

Yeah I used a zero lemon on my G2 from time to time. I was just kind of shocked that LG is actually getting a Mophie, they've usually only hung with the Big Two.
Hey guys I was wondering about the ZL extended battery and a zero shock case so I emailed them the other day and this was the response I got back from them.
Hi,
Thanks your email and interest , we will release products for G4 ,once we open them to market we will update our Facebook , we appreciate your support .thanks

I've had the ZL battery on my Note II for just under 2 years and it's great. At first it was heavy but you get used to it fast. I bought the Rugged case when they finally made one for the Note II it works but did not 100% like it. Looked like the Note 3 had similar design and then was changed for the Note 4. I haven't check the sytle for other phones since those were the phones I had interest in. They look and seem like they will work better. The issue I had on mine was anywhere by the power button or volume rocker I didn't even have to touch the button it would respond as I did just go really annoyed with it still used it but glad they made improvements through the years. We shouldn't have a issue since the buttons are on the back side. Too bad I don't know anyone with the ZL for the G3 would be nice to see the case but I'm still getting one for the G4.
Yes please! Have one of these for my gnex (my phone until I got my g4 last Friday) and adore it.
Yea, I've e-mailed ZeroLemon as well, they stated in their response that they have a "G4 battery case [in] progress at present." I don't know if that means a battery case like Mophie's, or an actual extended battery. Hopefully the latter :fingers-crossed:

When I used the zerolemon extended battery it came with it's own TPU case./ It was great I remember being able to go 6.5 days on their 7500mAH battery one one charge on my S4. :good:
I'd love to use Zero Lemon if they weren't so damned ugly. Would it hurt to put a little thought into their design?

If Zerolemon sticks to the trend as of late with tri cell tech then the battery will be a bust like it was for the note 4.

Just one question, though. If I were to purchase it, would I need to do something on the G4, or would it work right out of the box with accurate percentages (not staying in 0 for hours before turning off)?
They sadly recently posted on Facebook that they moved the launch until september. "Thanks for your support, we plan to launch the LG G4 battery case at the end of September."
Love me ZeroLemon stuff. I'll gladly review a sample
sweet just the news i needed to tip LG G4 as the choice of my next phone
I bought ZL batteries for my S4 and really got good performance. However, they only lasted about six months and swelled. Maybe the G4 will be better.

Is there a way that you could make the edges a little less sharp than the G3 and Note 4 case? My god, it's like holding a cactus in your hand. I personally would like a good mix between the Note 3 case and the formerly mentioned style, as long as it's relatively comfortable to hold.

My next phone is very likely to be an S7 Edge

Good evening you good people of XDA land! :highfive:
I am looking for a new phone to replace my now very broken and almost dead iPhone 6 plus for a S7 Edge. When I get the new handset I will need a new case for it, but here is my dilemma! what case to go for?
I have read a lot of reviews that say the battery live isn't as good as other handsets win this size, so I'm not sure as weather to try a batter case. I've never used one and I'm a bit concerned that it will add too much bulk to the handset or worst case damage it in some way. for my old Iphone I had a Spigen Neo Hybrid Metal Cover Case and really like it but felt that the metal in places was very thin, and eventually it did break. I was thinking of getting the same for the S7 and getting an external battery charger thing.
I would be grateful for any advise and opinions form you chaps and chapets!

I'm now using led cover, and work really well, but I don't recommend it for you... because it will open and let your phone face down when fall..... And an battery case can work well and more useful... because my S7E won't last whole day gaming...... ,start at 10 AM and battery dead at 9 PM(which is very good, but not enough for me D so get battery case if you need do fit or game..... if not get other case...... you can last one day without charge if you don't game....
Used since October and no once fall.(sorry if my English not so good)

1) $100 discount
2) It still has a headphone jack
3) It still has the fingerprint scanner on the front, where it belongs.
4) If required, there is a working root solution today. There are no guarantees an engineering root (or any root) will ever work on the S8.

This, 9 days away from revealing, for sale just after.
1. I'd pay $100 to have such a big difference. It's not like an iPhone that's virtually the same every year.
2.S8 has a headphone jack. Again, it's not an iPhone
3.Finger scanner on back isn't bad. Think about where you place your fingers on back when holding. It's not unergonomic. Plus, bigger screen so...
4. What is root really worth anymore? It's NOTHING like it used to be unless you want broken apps and $hit battery life

Thanks Joe, I've been bouncing back on forth on whether to root - mainly out of nostalgia for the fun of ROM swapping and eaking out more life from the phone.
But you've helped convince me there's very little I miss about rooting, nothing that isn't outweighed by stability.

I used to root/jailbreak EVERYTHING. I wouldn't buy a phone I couldn't root. I even still have a Note tablet running a CM Nougat. I wouldn't get a phone I couldn't root, I've built several stable af and reputable ROMs. Now days, especially with Package Disabler I haven't rooted in a long time. Xposed, everything is so problematic. Root cloaks don't hide root from most apps, and MANY apps are broken or simply state they won't work with root. Not to mention you run a kernel meant to be flashed, the phones problem fixed, then flashed stock. It's NOT for daily use. Instability, excessive battery drain, there's nothing enticing about root anymore.

It's a cost cutting exercise. I need a new phone and I want one that is as up to date as possible. I've got a iPhone 6 Plus but to upgrade to the 7 plus will set me back around £100 upfront and then £30-40 more a month than the s7.
I'm going to guess that the s8 will cost the same!

IMO, your best bet is to invest in wireless charging and not worry so much about battery. I have a dock for work and one for home. When I'm not using it, it's on the dock charging. Really changes how you use it over time. Case is really a personal choice. I'm happy as can be with Spigen Rugged Armor. Doesn't affect wireless rapid charge at all.
On another note, play with one at the store. The edge can be kind of frustrating. Case reduces ghost touches, but it's still there. There are also other little annoying things like the placement of the attachment button in messages. I use that several times a day, and it is annoyingly right on that edge. If you watch a lot of video tho, it really looks great on this screen.

If you watch a lot of video tho, it really looks great on this screen.

I'm not sure wireless will work for me at work as I don't have anywhere other than my pocket to leave the phone!
That's one reason why I was lookin at battery cases. I'm having trouble picking a case as I can really tell from pics online what they are like. And I'm not sure if any local shops have a decent range of cases to browse!

Right on. I'd grab the phone first, see how it meets your needs. Accessories don't resell well, if at all. Power banks are cheap enough, altho I'll skip. I'd rather have an ugly case than 2 bricks tethered together. Good luck with your purchases.
ETA:
If you use power save mode on these, you can literally get days of use from a charge. With everything set to performance, I still get through a full day on it.

If you're leaving your phone in your pocket, then (depending on how tight your pockets are) you really have a choice between a case or a power bank. Personally I'd choose a bank because you can charge anything with it and they're insanely cheaper (US $15 vs. US$85 for a charging case). If you do get a case, I'd recommend spending a little extra (especially if you're getting the S7 on sale) and getting one from a solid company with a good manufacturer's warranty so that, if it breaks, you can get it fixed.
Another reason to get the S7E is that is still uses MicroUSB and not USB-C, so it'll be easier getting accessories for it.

I'm really considering a power bank. I have a Microsoft surface 3 that I can't plug in anywhere at college so could do with having something for that. Any suggestions on what power bank to look at?
Cheers
If you're getting an S7 Edge, which i don't recommend, please don't get it through sprint. This phone is so packed with bs and everything else wrong with it, go to verizon if you still want this phone.

eh dont deal with any carrier - tmo seems to be the least intrusive
if you really want it - get the 935F (exanos, international version). you'll get the latest updates from samsung and then also have the capability to load ROMs, etc if you want to. battery lasts longer too.
